What does the ACC look like in the short-term? David Teel of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Richmond.com joined to talk about the current state of the ACC. With the Grant of Rights, does the ACC stay intact? Will conferences like the Big Ten or SEC look to lure schools as a partner to keep matchups intact, such as Duke basketball and UNC basketball? Will Notre Dame eventually join a conference full-time for football, and how do they factor into the ACC? And does the SEC go after Clemson football?

It was not on the pole will give some talk about it if somebody wants to talk about those Mitterrand guys cruise. Lucius absolutely we are all in on cruise illusion before we start this and if you want to suggest a topic of discussion you are by all means will welcome to do so. 919-8605 326 Jacobs Ln. was a fourth-round pick Britt that she was 1/3 round, Eric Cole, one of the top players in Carolina hurricanes history was either 1/3 or fourth and forth from so you find them anywhere. Absolutely anywhere.

Sebastian I was a second ramp high second-round pick, but a second-round pick, so it doesn't have to happen in the first. You can find players all over the place. You know English is certain visited trophy winner MVP Hart trophy finalist and most people think right behind Andre vessel asking as the best goalie in the sport was 1/3 one that if you hit it, and relinquishes a six round look at this is not uncommon. Was it was it possible.so go ahead Greg Zetterberg or Detroit that was like 1/7 round as Dotson got it right me you just don't know right so I'm not much a Muslim in any of that colossal third topic yeah pays good is good. There is no doubt about that. So you can you can find great players anywhere.

Differences is that you don't really expect to find great players in the middle rounds you expect to find great players in the first round may be hot Meno early in the second so that's just my little comeback that this is the time of the program where we invite listeners to decide what we'll talk about that is put Cipolla production for this.

Do I ask you every day. We do I will instrumental here overnight right so what should we talk about 1 o'clock today. Writings are welcome and the ACC breakup was your winter at 47% Baker Mayfield of the Panthers at 36% Tiger at the open championship at 15% Paulo, Ben, Karen versus Chet Holmgren 42% to basically one person yeah let's talk about the Apollo versus Chet don't were not probably looking to get to that sheer will talk about the ACC and David to join us in about 15 minutes to talk about the air quotes demise of the Atlantic Coast conference.

I don't think the leagues dying yet. That doesn't mean the league is healthy, but there is there is one thing holding it together and grant of rights matters so it's important if you care in having any of these discussions with friends know.

Always visit school believe is a school believe grant of rights probably keeps everybody in this league other than Notre Dame very happy that Mulligan said. But where they'll Notre Dame has less to lose with grant of rights and I would point this out. Notre Dame probably has the deepest pockets when it comes to legally challenging grant of rights, so it is very possible that Notre Dame might one day decide witness. We want to leave for the Big Ten and we are going to sue our way out or threatened to sue and then negotiate their way out anybody else can negotiate their way out to itch is probably a lot more expensive and a lot more challenging, legally so. Grant arrives likely to keep the ACC together for the foreseeable future, but we just don't know what the leagues look like and way back when the ACC expanded for the first time early in the office, like when this first started becoming a discussion in 2003, the ACC was the leader in per school payout for each member institute you in all of their member institutions by it.

I think $1 million over the SEC it was 9 million to 8 million of those numbers do not even resemble each other today. The SEC is paying out over 50 million. The ACC is paying out than $35 million range, mostly because the SEC's media deals and other factors matter attendances you basically keep that in house but bowl money is shared playoff appearances. Those all of those things add up to the SEC having more money to pay out talk about this more with David Teal but I could see the ACC ultimately ending up where they tried to avoid it out 20 years ago with sort of a league that is more boutique like the old Big East which was a basketball league with football playing members. Now everybody would play all sports in the ACC but I could see it down the road looking like a basketball league with members that also play high level football. I could see that and that wouldn't be good for the league because that's what killed the Big East. I conversation my train geese in 2002. He was the on the NCAA basketball selection committee and he was assigned to Greenville and that's where Duke was Sony was 2002, so we had a conversation about the future of the Big East and then he said that we are in a difficult spot because we have so many members that have different priorities they had members.

It didn't play football at the Division I level like Villanova right now debating playful. They played Division I AA football at the time they were good. One AA but indoor play.

I level football. The ACC is potentially heading that way. Notre Dame will be the tipping point.

The longer Notre Dame stays independent. The more the ACC is mild, viable if Notre Dame decides to join the league and that league is the ACC and I'm not saying that that's gonna happen then the ACC becomes very important, but it looks like it's trending the other way. All right, let me get to the to something else that we we talked about Baker, the pit Panthers a bunch Tiger play practice round at the open championship yesterday.

He played today in like a celebration of champions which was a four hole event I played with Rory McElroy. Georgia Hall's women's player on the LPGA ladies European tour and a major champion in the past. I think she wanted open championship of years ago, only Trina want to open championship 7172 is very cool that they're doing this. Did you know that two-time open champion Greg Norman who is fronting the live golf tour was told by the RNA stay home yeah you're not invited. They didn't not invite they disinvited him yeah open champions oral are always welcome back.

They had their own champions dinner there. Greg it would be best if you stayed home, but I'm not I'm not lauding this. I'm not saying that this is a good thing not choosing sides.

But here's what it says to me, and I've I've been on this. This had been a thought of mine since this whole thing really began. The majors are in no way fans of what is happening with between live in the PGA tour. They don't like live. They don't want to support live there are certain things they can do legally in certain things they can't do legally. The RNA couldn't stop those players from playing the USGA couldn't stop those players from playing if they were qualified. The other two organizations can, and I think will limits live players. Inclusion in those events and I think the RNA simply saying.

With this move hey Greg, stay away.

They're forecasting the future now enjoy it this year but unless your past champion will make it hard for you to get in unless you can go through another qualifying route got it. The major the major championships are no fans there no fences. They know it's not good for the sport. It it it just isn't. It's not good to have anyone know if they're the best players anymore, but it's no good to have a splintering of the top level of the sport is not good. It didn't help member court entities and IndyCar when they split it destroyed that support destroyed so I think the other majors are not fans.

That's what it says to me I will hear from my man, Coach Pete the road with the capital financial advisory group. We are talking retirement. I coach simple. When we start tax planning and retirement should start as soon as possible because there's one thing Adam taxes are not going away and so the game here is we know the rules what people want to ignore the rules or act like they don't offer me with them but virus those rules and so we get retirement. The region start taking some of their money out of your accounts so the secret here is to put a force field around as much as possible. By strategically moving summer money to Roth IRA were some of the other vehicles in our text like a special life insurance policies you can borrow against your money there and never have to pay tax on you wanted to build up inside your Space up there a lot of strategies here. The one strategy that does not work is ignoring mature and not ignored the next 10 people will do for you your very own tax and retirement plan to help you minimize taxation with the retirement 800-661-7383. All you got is call or you can text Adam to 21000 for Coach Pete the road. David Teal Richmond Times Dispatch joins us now on the Adam goal. Joe, I appreciate your time boarded people ruin your vacation there.

I was all Switzerland-amount all broke lose money and of course I had no idea right but believe it or not, there is no cell service on the mountainside in Georgia. Unbelievable. And I'm shocked that there is no malice in the Alps right so what was I just curious, what was your initial reaction to send but did use did you see the news but were you checking twitter or you would like In Bowyer in Switzerland so is St. Moritz you checking twitter during a break anyway, did southern count UCLA really leave for the Big Ten helmet walk me through that. Okay so I get to a place where I think I have some wife and up pops this text from a Virginia radio host, asking me to come on to talk USC UCLA. That's all it said why number your light on Bruins Trojans that I don't know the depth chart right beyond that and then my wife, who had assumed card so her phone work much better in Europe. She gets on twitter and she gives me the holy moly moment and says no honey they're going to the good amazing it it it happened quickly.

It was announced this speculation and then the papers were so kind and I believe the Mayflower vans had pulled up in Los Angeles almost the same day.

Should Jim Phillips, the Commissioner of the ACC should should he have been made more proactive here did.

Is there any way for him to know should he have known what was happening in this regard, and last year he still has some buddies in the Big Ten is a form of Big Ten and Northwestern now. Could somebody have took them all. I guess that they could have, but sometimes NEDs are among the final few to learn about these things, they are they are determined at the presidential level than the commissioner level, although clearly Martin Jarman, who has 919 ties there in the triangle is now being UCLA. He was he was front and center on this. David Teal is joining us. Richmond Times Dispatch on the state of play in the ACC so over the weekend.

It was actually in all really all week as I've been I've been out for the last week. It is happened a week ago Thursday, and everybody had basically been the ACC has already been sold for parts, Hudson, Florida State. My all gone Carolina Virginia Virginia Everett everybody's got Georgia Tech everybody's in the ace in the SEC or the Big Ten. How vulnerable is the ACC in the short term.

I'm not talking long term. Because, you know, five years down the road everything may look different, but in the short term. How vulnerable is the ACC last grant the right is less than airtight, and someone can find a loophole skinny patch that I believe that short-term five years from today.

I believe the ACC will be in contact as we know it all the same schools and obviously Notre Dame is an outlier will get to Notre Dame, the second with David Teal.

I just want to boil down grant of rights will quickly talk about it and I'm not sure how how much everybody really understands now the grant of rights means that your television or media rights deal stays with the league. It is time to the league. Is that just the money that you would've made within that league or is it also. Or does it include monies that you would earn if you left and make in the other league does that money transferred to the ACC.

My understanding is out of all money you would lay in your right media, right word transfer to your former home in this particular case to see and although let's not forget hers and exit the right involved here as well. It is believed that is three times your distribution that you get from the lake.

The average distribution this past year was $36.1 million. You do the math and you come up with $108 million right there added on to the grant of rights over 14 talking if you tried to leave today talking well north of half of the bill it and because there could be ways around that. You could certainly say to let you say the Big Ten you made a deal with the Big Ten Carolinas good to go. Hey will take nothing for the first eight years of this deal until the ACCs contract is out and you can will defer payment would that help get around it or my my just reaching and think you're reaching okay but when lawyers get involved no rights were probably talking about just a negotiated settlement. But either way, the price tag would be enormous to get out of the league, which is what I wanted to get to with the grant of rights now to the I think the biggest Domino. The biggest ship in a piece on the board is Notre Dame. I will write a call when you come back and they and they love it that way they do. Is there an appeal to Notre Dame that essentially to save college football because I think this would be terribly damaging if we just had two major conferences in college football. We sort of have that now, but it would be on steroids in in five years if the SEC in the big-ticket Big Ten just ultimately swallowed whole. You know more of the of the top football properties. It wouldn't be. Is there an appeal to Notre Dame that you can save the sport be looked money at your driving force anyway because of that was the case you wouldn't be an independent anymore. You'd already be in a league and and we'll let you align better your university aligns better with the ACC schools private smaller type deal and you could be special here as opposed to just being one of the crowd in the Big Ten that you make a very convincing argument that is indeed the case, Jack's Warburg, one, hell yeah because he came out there ACC meeting Amelia Island. He is just walked out of a meeting with his ACC colleagues discussing league business. This is very and he says we are headed quickly toward a two solar system college athletics where there are two gravitational pull the SEC in the Big Ten and everybody has to figure out how to align with them yeah how do you think how you think that's played when Jim Phillips heard that quote. There must've been discussion about that in the meeting for me to come out and say that he must've heard something in those meetings that that triggered that or it was specifically discussed and it it might very well have been. I just, I will. I wonder what where would it end. Where would like to schedule a scheduling alliance to have more games with Oregon isn't in a matter or to have more games with TCU that stuffs knocking a matter.

So where does this end from an ACC standpoint I think right now ACCs just going to have to figure out become the heckuva job so far, have to continue to do more with less and except for never been very happy to have Big Ten SEC but Burgess could be considerably behind those folks and still figure out how to make it work. And let's not forget the Big Ten's Mr. college football playoff mall for the ACC and the Big Ten has won a men's national basketball championship since Michigan stated when 99.2 thousand and independent right, but not 9999 Michigan stated 2000 and Duke in 2001, but in I just think the that is the ACC niche here and for now though absent Notre Dame having the Epiphany you describe that they have to settle for that. I want people to understand that I believe that is a long shot to appeal because college football and really that's were talking about or not I have anything else college football is about money. It's not about anything else because if the if the powerbrokers thought about the overall health of the sport over money. None of this would've happened because it's just not it's not good to ultimately concentrate power in let's just say the two major conferences and end up at 20 schools each in 40 schools and oh by the way, somebody who thinks they're good isn't going to be happy when they go for Nate because somebody is so close and be careful what you wish for going to embed.

Honestly, I think the be like if you are from UCLA in football yeah I'd we've we've we stop winning. Not that they want a lot in the past 12 anyway but it's going to be that much more difficult like I can't wait. I know Steve Sarkisian is rebuilt Texas. Apparently I can't wait for them to get a dose of reality when they play in the SEC every Saturday. Good luck start. Yes, we will we've already discussed arch Manning with some people whose whose good buddy happens to have the last main name Manning which certainly matters I you by what your piece in the Richmond Times Dispatch points out very well something you just alluded to that.

Look, the ACC has for the last 15 years.

In third to the Big Ten in the SEC in terms of payout, and they've managed to do okay and if the if the ACC can suck it up and except that they're gonna be paying out maybe half of what is paid out by the SEC in the Big Ten and I think they would be lucky to get that they can suck it up and just deal with, say, $40 million.

The $45 million annually per school, then everybody will just get by on only paying out $45 million per school 20 years ago. It was 9 million David is remarkable how much ACC revenue has increased but yet during that time, the ACC is continued to fall exponentially behind the powerbrokers but ask you one more thing to select you go David to others. I thought we could probably talk about this for another 20 minutes but I will more question how much has ESPN and Fox influenced these decisions over the last couple summers, I think, significantly and I don't mean to come across those Pollyanna fear of God, thought the tweet from Fox's college fund account without a brown yet where where it basically said if the Big Ten's goal is to expand the 20 change for the best candidate and then displayed 12 helmets, other conferences should. It was essentially a major television sports network calling the killing all of several power five conferences was in the markedly bad taste in my opinion, that anyone who doesn't believe that Hollywood grazed Fox didn't have a role in the Hollywood base, USC, UCLA, Big Ten is delusional and I agree it was that was that was very curious to see David till I appreciate your time and go back to go back and climb of the mountain.

Throat, brother. You got S NetSuite oh my gosh is that can be fun David Teal for the Richmond Times Dispatch here on the atom gold show we have halftime festivities that we will place our bets are two things to get to cells reading this earlier today about how Roger Caddell had interview with CNBC on Friday last week and he was asked about NFL Sunday ticket and he said that this coming fall that we they will reveal who the new platform will be is not to be DirecTV anymore after this upcoming season. What he did indicate that it will be only streaming plopped down with the mouse will come this fall. A lot of people are leaning that potentially Apple might be the one.

Because here's a reason why some people say will Disney/ESPN make sense. Majority of the deal with them as I make sense because you have a deal with them, but if you want to diversify and spread yourself on as many platforms as possible that Apple makes sense Apple makes great sense that's what you know what we can have no had John around and I asked him if the MLS deal was sort of a trial balloon for Apple meet up. I wasn't specifically talking about DirecTV or the rather the Sunday ticket, but if you get that immediate certain there are going to be a lot not as many people as you think have the Sunday tech yeah not try to do some who have DirecTV.

Well, it's that, but it's also limited. Yeah, we had direct eye DirecTV for a while and I didn't have the Sunday ticket because I was not interested in the Sunday ticket and I'm still not. It does nothing for me like I have to watch the Panthers. Sometimes I don't want to but we have to watch the Panthers of a lot fancier that way and I am willing to watch the national games other than the Panthers when they are available and we get the late afternoon game on Sundays. Usually the best game on Sunday, and you've got Sunday night Monday night Thursday night to is that whatever you have plenty of options to play games to watch but it's also has been limited by contract to about 10% of the people cook and get you the names they've set it up that way.

That's was EM in the original contract to protect affiliates. They set it up for only a small percentage.

I think that'll probably go away but I don't think necessarily that, you'll suddenly see 40 million people have Sunday tech discount. It just depends on what platform they put it on. I think it's really because if they put it on ESPN answer Liz on ESPN plus if you pay like an extra five bucks a month to get anything like it will be in rehab on sale, a separate fee for Sunday ticket or promise, but I will have you spent plus I can watch all the marketing writer for sure.

I do too, but I think it'll jack the price up more than five dollars a month.

They very well could write NBA league Pass subscriptions looks like they might be available with NBA 2K 23 cells reading this earlier tonight as well. So this past year, a year-long subscription upfront for NBA league Pass hundred 99 box $200 now with the upcoming version of NBA 2K 2K 23. There actually are five different editions of the game. You get the standard. In addition, you get the WNBA addition, the Michael Jordan addition the digital Deluxe Edition in the championship addition that the championship addition is expensive it's 150 bucks but it gives you a year-long subscription to NBA league Pass so you can watch games through your Expo. So what you can already do it anyway. If you have yeah but here's the thing. If you're NBA league Pass subscriber and you want to get it. What I can get it at a basically a discounted rate and I can get a videogame on top of it make sense so it gets it's not something it's not something necessarily that's new year we seeing you know different mediums partner up with each other in order to increase subscriptions in those kinds of things like for example was that MLB TV was with T-Mobile you know I gave him T-Mobile it's free so there's different things along those lines like to mention NFL DirecTV on Sunday ticket, but I find this got interesting. You get a whole year of NBA league Pass. If you buy this you know that the champions addition of this game like it.

I think I got a cool as a parent of a child who has fallen in love with the NBA completely head over heels. His words don't real quick note for love and thunder open with $302 million worldwide in its opening weekend sounds good. Very very good question for you, sir. I got into a little bit of the patent fun debate with my girlfriend over the weekend so she gets a phone not settling something not yet settled as a it's a curious topic so you might so she gets a form box in the Durham farmers market every weekend and there was was a melon and Caleb right so she can love you try to say really was not good as it will you had at room temperature.

Yeah, hold yes.have a cold. Just like leg and knowing Apple's grades are better in the room temp not have these cold first of all, all fruit are called the only fruit that's not better than it has been yeah you and I are in the same yeah otherwise offered to better cold melons, especially yes better cold. I mean it's it's night and day difference. Yes, take the melon put in the refrigerator. Come back in about six hours activity day. That's what I like watermelon so much better cold than room temperature almost a waste of time. Room temperature. I agree. She also is saying she's also prefers apples, stuff like that at room temp not allowing got hold cold. I am very particular about apples, there are certain apples I might not give the time of day. Likewise, red delicious, worse names cannot throw it away. That's a lie.

Macintosh Apple throw it away. Don't even don't even got to my computers fee on a Macintosh. I know I don't want no part of. No part of it. I need I need really crisp. I need to part. Yes, I need hello snap to snap to it on will snap to the most frightening yelling tell me I'm wrong so you're not stand to stand up for yourself.

Know I have my dog is now correct language like your refrigerator, basically running around over hundred years just over hundred years ago and they hated melons. As a result. Yeah, I'm sure they did. I know this for a fact made it up. June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became 1/25 anniversary of the presented by the Carolina listen now pays for more playing the role of William H Macy ever seen the movie the cooler. I've heard I can't say what really good movie William H Macy is a guy employed by a casino because he is bad luck, not to the casino but to those people gambling. They see him next to somebody and immediately their luck goes cold cooler haze per more acted as the cooler. Apparently this past week we did not earn money in place your bets. We lost money. Dennis took a bath.

Yeah just absolutely unfortunate so we should try to make up for Shelley is haze list is his daily Tuesday lost 300 Wednesday.

He made 77 okay good for him. We were we were down probably 300 for the week which is really not that bad, and there's still a pending wager with Sam. Donald has a week. One starter at +200 RI Dennis Cox, we won't. We will go into house down 1200 there is that you start off goodness.

Are you talking earlier with Will Brinson Mets Atlanta later on today masters on the mound. I say Maxtor's her records more than 18 out three pitches more than six innings 135 more than 18 outs means he has to get out the 7th to 6 1/3 6 1/3+135 yeah all right first start in what two months almost 2nd yeah but as the big leagues so that's eventually been okay without Jacob. The ground is not burning yet and insurers are made. I believe mine starts something before before getting hurt and is not pitched since mid-May or something like that. I will start with the with the Mets and the Braves as well. Austin Riley hits a homerun tonight +375 I think I did Riley leave the Braves in home runs everyone seal my homerun but Patricia wants jump on it. Now is the Riley home run +375.

Quite the faith in Maxtor's her tonight. Then you do as you do so, it will be good for the Mets obviously ensures a can have a good outing. Mets seven. Their offense is been sporadic so they got beat by the Marlins to nothing at home last night and they just have not scored 10 runs in the first game at Sears and Willis were much after that Europe I euro women's tournament taking place. England is playing Norway giving English England, minus a goal and 1/2 against Norway winning, -1/2+120 really so, minus a goal and 1/2 only made it +120. Their heavy favorites always got some always got some talent outbreak in downtown the former major power in the sport when women suck doorways of +550 on the money line the moment let's boat you could be right.

England. England loaded when we understand that I my mind. Expect will be tomorrow morning a one day international cricket between England and India.

Hey I'm one-for-one. I know I know the outcome.

I don't hear got a lacrosse that is above minus money England and India are both mine is my divorce so will take Rohit Sharma to be the top Indian batsman at +285. That means means that he will score the most runs. He will provide the most runs before being put out Rohit Sharma to +285. All right I am going to go see magic and thunder play today. The big Rohit Sharma fan, but I'm sure Brian Lara throw vectors of evidence that you have a poster of a minor. Well, should I magic it thunder play each other in the summer league Jimmy Ben Caro and Chet Holmgren, each with 20+ points of +210 all right you you were able to find product that I okay you have to show me where you got those I couldn't find it.

I just want to bet a summer league game just straight up to give you a futures bet at the open championship today and every day for the next three days. Anyway, I will provide major golf bets for you to peruse.

Give me Sam Burns at +4000 to win the open championship.

All right, Sam Burns +4002 if the old course Tiger Woods is like. Plus he's also in the 4000 range. I can't wait to receive a prophets what is woods to miss the cut or make the cut. I think he makes the cut man just play the weekend would be absolutely tremendous. This is the atom gold shell June 19, 2006, but all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak.
