Yesterday we talked about sin. Today we're answering the harder follow-up questions you've been sending in — are all people really sinful, even the good ones? What happens to babies who die? And can generations of unbelief in a family ever really be broken? We work through Psalm 14 and Romans 3:23 on why every single person stands guilty before God — including history's most admired "good" unbelievers — and why no other world religion makes that same claim about itself. We dig into when sin nature actually takes hold (Psalm 51:5 says at conception, contrasted with John the Baptist being filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb), and Dr. Abidan Shah's honest, careful answer on what happens to children who die before they can choose Christ. The episode closes with a deeply personal story — the grandfather-in-law Dr. Shah never met, whose faithfulness set off a chain that led to his own family — and a challenge for anyone listening who could be the first in their own family line to break that chain.0:00 – Are All People Really Sinful? Wisdom for the Heart
Dr. Stephen Davey
Share a commentThe question isn’t academic if you’ve ever held an ultrasound photo, walked out of a hospital empty-handed, or wondered what God does with the smallest lives. We take the most tender and controversial question head-on: do miscarried, stillborn, aborted, and newborn children go to heaven, and what does the Bible actually say?We start with Romans 5, tracing the contrast between Adam’s disobedience and Jesus Christ’s obedience, and why Paul’s “many will be made righteous” can’t be reduced to a narrow, adult-only category. From there we tackle the foundational claims underneath the whole debate: life begins at God-ordained conception, every human being lives forever because we’re made in the image of God, and the real issue becomes where we live forever. Then we test popular answers against Scripture. We push back on post-mortem salvation using Luke 16, and we examine baptismal regeneration claims (including household baptism arguments) to ask whether any ceremony can guarantee heaven. Finally, we walk through the grace-versus-works tension: saved by grace alone, yet condemned with reference to willful rebellion and suppressed truth (Romans 1). That framework shapes how we think about “age of accountability” as a state of moral awareness, not a magic number. If you’re grieving, questioning, or trying to think clearly as a Christian, this conversation is for you. If you're a Christian, you probably do have a genuine desire to worship and obey God. But there's one three-letter word that keeps getting in the way. In this episode, we continue our Systematic Theology series by tackling sin head-on — starting with the ways we all try to rebrand it as a "struggle" or a "character opportunity" rather than call it what it is.We define sin biblically (any failure to conform to the moral law of God, in act, attitude, or nature), trace it back to Satan's rebellion before it ever reached the Garden, and work through Romans 5 on why Adam's sin became ours. We also walk through four ways Scripture pictures sin — a burden, a stain, slavery, and a debt — and land on one of the most important corrections in the whole episode: forgiveness doesn't mean God erased the debt. It means the debt was paid in full. We close with Joseph and his brothers, and why God often leads us through a real process toward repentance rather than an instant clean slate.0:00 – Rebranding Sin as a "Struggle" (And Why We Do It)6:15 – Adam and Eve: The Original Blame Game (And What Sin Actually Is)11:35 – Original Sin: Why Adam's Sin Became Ours (Romans 5)14:44 – Four Pictures of Sin: Burden, Stain, Slavery, Debt20:18 – The Debt Was Paid, Not Erased24:08 – Joseph and His Brothers: Led to Real RepentanceSupport the showDr. Shah writes a personal letter every week — reflections on Scripture, faith, and living it out with clarity and purpose. Wisdom for the Heart
Dr. Stephen Davey
Share a commentOne sentence can stop a grieving parent cold: “I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.” We start there, with David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 12, because the death of a child forces honest Christians to face the hardest pastoral question people ask through tears: did my baby go to heaven? We don’t reach for a Hallmark answer, and we don’t pretend the Bible offers a single easy proof text for the miscarried, the aborted, the stillborn, or the severely mentally disabled. Instead, we do what careful biblical theology requires: compare passages, connect doctrines, and follow the clues. Psalm 139 takes us into the womb where God “knits” a unique life together, and Jeremiah’s language shows God speaking to an unborn person with purpose and destiny. Along the way, we contrast a Scripture-shaped view of human dignity with modern bioethics that reduces people to animals and then calls almost anything “morally acceptable.”The conversation also widens to what sits underneath the whole debate: life begins at conception, every person is eternal, and the real question becomes where we will live forever. If you’ve carried grief after pregnancy loss or you’re trying to form a clear Christian view of abortion, infant mortality, and the eternal destiny of children, this is an episode to sit with slowly.
