Last time we spoke, I think I called you almost coach so I will start with another kind of a goofy question. Will you be coaching in the ACC large workload survey to see you might otherwise go to for three metaphors were concerned, and not distracted or adult focus on the next practice to your team better. Growing up to concerned or worried about almost no noise of El Dorado. Yet what what was your first thought though when you when the news broke and then everybody after that looks at all right will everything is falling apart.

Where is everybody going everybody played a game of risk to know if you are a risk player as a young man Gissel young man by the way, it's kind of frightening but I'm so much older than you, but what was your first thought when you heard about all this for you so much. Strange college landscape since found out I was given a coaching job and so really part of the course beyond review and found if you try to get too far out of you know with planning where you're going to be what college looks like too many years from now you can be wrong because for many of us thought would be right here at this point a few years ago. So you need to adapt. Is it strange thing about school different conferences. Of course of this like it's different, but in all honesty, I think were going to the sorted out here sooner rather than later. In terms of the stability of the couch like a sub because landscape and I was really excited for you want really excited to go with our team and no one makes you see you know that much. I know the coding has gone well, but I want to ask you about a guy who just left because I've caught the first two Apollo Bank Arrow summer league shows and I thought he was the best player in the draft. My only question was, was he going to be ultimately at the next level. Would he be quick enough to impact the game. I'm not sure why people are surprised that he's this good in this very in terms of the skill set, but he looks like he's gotta be a headache you clear you not think people underestimate how big is all of sixth and more and have guards killed outside his party match up with the yard and how coachable he is skillfully doing that will refill me when people call us like what you're doing.

The best player in the draft and I think Orlando felt that they saw that's what the draft of the them to a couple games a summer league. You have to take everything with a little degree assault because it's different than the regular regular games that you shown why he is the best player in the draft.

Yet they can even work them out. So what what I want to game opossum a plate. Or of moving parts down the stretch and I wasn't in the mood for everything that I have some understanding or knowledge in help all meteors in the day was really excited to want really excited to go to Orlando and one another. Great job just looking every option doing their homework doing the research and work on buyers but I deftly feel the great right decision.

There is a young guy Orlando Disney Epcot center. I mean why not John shire do coaches joining us here on the Adam gold show. I don't want to make this too much about likes some past things, but I am curious. Thinking back how much pressure was on. Those guys last year because of the circumstances near me but don't circumstances that nobody else explores any change of gone almost all the was exciting and amazing and then on the flip side, there's more I use when you're filler loser of a setback, it becomes a bigger deal so I don't think any of our guys will change it for the world what a an amazing time, but it was different like you just just watch and so you know so form and then works with outcome to be in the moment – that's what you dream about a player I tongue-in-cheek question is not completely serious. Is there a way back for Duke in the rivalry with UNC, you can make whatever you want on one game and rivalry when you look over email. Years and years of big time games environments like you don't know what happened and you don't credit them for wanting your last year but of course there's a long way to go rivalry is not the way.

Unless of course they go to the SEC and you guys go to the big dance. And then you guys never meeting will fill in when you receive each other for quite some time.

I agree. All right, so now tell me how your summer has changed with now that you're not almost coach your headcount. Changes in terms of your the one ultimately have the final say on what were doing.

You know you're not making suggestions or making decisions and spend a lot of phone having our team here. We don't quite have our entire group. Charles Proctor still in Australia and then Jacob Granderson is still coming off an injury. Right now we don't have those two guys were to be both will be really important for us this summer is by getting a feel you know for a lot of new players with new staff and course and so just getting to know one another, pushing each other. Understanding the things that we could do better from last year but was really good. We continue to do so. It's been exciting. It's what you look there's a lot of things that come with this job will be number four with our dogs watch market report capital financial advisory group were talking retirement coach.

I'm a simple guy but I like colors. Tell me how I can colorcode money and get ready for retirement. I like colors like grass.

I don't like just buzzwords what we try to do is we try to break down all those words on your statement.

All those numbers into three colors red, green, yellow people amazingly come in and most of the money is in the red cat again want that I read means high horsepower, potential alternates, high loss potential. You have to do to give-and-take. You can want to do that or that yellow means liquid money get any time stuck on anything green did you safe growth but also dig a lifetime income as we get closer to retirement. We need some green accounts. We have greens only call it Baghdad refill was important appraisal support for you to next and people out of the thousand dollar value going to put together for you very own total planned as a green zone it's a traffic light. I hope it's great for you 800-661-7383 or text Adam to 21000B through John shire is joining us here on the Adam gold show what was behind me. I think I know but I want you to describe it hiring. Essentially, a GM, you also brought in a sitting head coach to kinda be another pair of eyes for you, so walk me through those type types of decisions.

Yellow any decision made wanted to be really methodical to my homework and make sure that the decisions are well thought out. The reported and just in the changing landscape of college aquatics 1 m first, Michael Chapman might shrug you with his experience was valuable. He's done literally anything you can imagine in college basketball worldviews video done. She's been an assistant coach with three other high major places the head coach so that's incredible and you Rachel Baker's experience in grassroots basketball and an MBA and with the world worrying is bigger than basketball or expertise is incredibly valuable and J Lucas.

We brought in one is amazing. Dramatizing connections with his family as mom and dad's grandfather, grandmother, there's there's a circuit.

This is ultimately home for his family's home and he understands everything that the gospel is about the city of Durham and then just to hit expertise being that you too high. Major programs in Texas talking working with three become coaches and barn chakra smarted to help coach Kelso honestly could be more excited about the group home, and an empty can't forget give an amazing infrastructure here that's been here is the institutional knowledge and there's the chemistry and connect with me, so I feel like a lucky guy to be great talkers move forward we need to continue to adapt and adjust. John shire is joining us here in the Adam gold. So who would have gotten the most and IL money from your championship team that I know ideas and I know about, but before falling out, you have no idea what was that would've been but I do not like the singer. What about the stuff man sitting there can I can think of, and some hardware companies where you not not zoo but not blind you that all the pastry companies in jersey with all of note actually zoo back was gone to great anything with computer is not working out your product for Nolan to note that he could've really killed it without those what's his name I forget his name still hang around the gym out of what you can show that the king of the coach K got all coaches received generally good about Sheron. He's he's around. Also, he's doing his thing so it's been great balance the work as we go along.

The fortune that I have still so great has invited you on the radio show yet showing on so the first time we do not address the switch is easy yourself.

Thank you very much for free and pretend it's SQL 20. Now you are becoming him that's exactly what that's fine by the way that that's exactly what he does I live. I appreciate the needle. I've always appreciated the needle from from coach because and plant do I call you culture. I call you John likely Mr. shire.

What I do I want to me. I want to get this right codes, prime control be whatever you think you but so to me that that was always a sign of respect is the right word, but maybe more acceptance that you know I'm I understand what you do, so I appreciate the needle so I that you just made my day coach coach John shire. I have use of the news of the day. Question for you, NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver came out and said that they were he was going to advocate to lower the draft age limit take back to 18. In other words right out of high school, you're okay to go. How will that impact would that impact what you do, how you recruit your course just like if you look at the evolution of our programming coach. Mean think about the success of he said really is adapted many many times there is a generation to go through with where without I school were able to go out right away. The last year of the first rough class with a changeable that's why my class is what Kevin Durant school to college and so is it different Kevin Kevin Durant in college were snotty college course it does. And but so strategy changes just like you have the past couple years, they still professional opportunities in my score they can go G league and over time will you be other options, so will continue adapting like know for our program will be really successful in figuring out whatever the path that is we have to alter mobile adjuster.

Whatever the rules are about time but no question will be change.

John Syverson let you go serious serious question if you don't mind as I saw your tweet about it.

What happened in suburban Chicago on Fourth of July.

I know it touched you, but that's that that is in your hometown write you but you live you, you grew up close to their right neighboring town where I grew up from the ground partners. So what what what what I mean. I understand why it touched you. But why did it move you to to take the social media world you think there is no look, father of three.

My kids are grown up going to school you see what happens. You've all day. Figure behind the part of my family was going to the parade later that day Northbrook, which is right next door and there's just a reminder that this is happening everywhere. Everywhere in the country and so I don't think it's anything here that's the sheep statement on the other nine. The fastest glide. Why will you stop kids are being killed and so now I'm not not make enough political sky had drinking like that. I'm simply saying know what solutions there has to be some solutions are so heartbreaking.

I feel horrible for the families. I feel horrible meters people that I know that workshop the day and the other still obviously physically but mentally what that's going to do for almost family's goals for Dr. horrible for all good so my sympathies go out to any family that's been whether it's in on the porridge all day. She caught anywhere it's it's a horrible epidemic right now in our country that were doing with more than anyone more than anybody in the world John shire Duquette totes still in the ACC last check.

I appreciate your time. Have a great summer will talk to you again.

Maybe as we get closer to the basketball season be well beyond left check checking in with John shire, John: coach coach shire prime the matter June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became the 25th anniversary of the presented by the Carolina listen now find an NHL free-agent Wednesday Jim Patterson, by the way atop the out and have fun which it is really simple and woodchip might work in a little open championship, but there's a lot of college sporting things to discuss, including why is the big 12 in denial about that thought about where we are at this stage of the game, but we'll get to that coming up about 11 minutes are the only ones in denial, like the past 12 this and try to expand right, I thought they were in battle can't regenerate did not not as not without the two heavyweights to go back: the Pac-10 we can actually there right now there are 10, but even if the pack 12 added San Diego State and Boise State.

It still, it's your missing southern cow and how you just survived.

You really don't want to.

To this point, the Atlantic Coast conference is being held together by that grant of rights and will see how many schools decide to challenge it and they might, but ultimately there's nobody out there to add that it really increases your value. That's the problem for everybody.

The only the only piece that really increases your value is Notre Dame set mean I can't even think of any of us school from the big 12 or the pact with the pack. Whatever.

However, many teams are that increases the ACCs value enough to point where you would have. They have to be worth as many will essentially has many teams is you have times 10 million, so dozen or maybe not quite 10 million but as any team pay for itself. I think the answer that other than Notre Dame is probably no right so real quick. Here's where we are as free agency moves on Max Dolby will go will start with a former hurricanes okay Max Dolby to Chicago one year, $3 million, which okay. I was not was not a fan of Max told me I said this during podcast states. What a podcast available wherever you get your podcast.

I was disappointed for the second year in a row at Carolinas's performance at the trade deadline. Two years in a row. Hurricanes didn't get better. Didn't none.

I look up about this a lot. Seems a tried and failed. Anyway, only one team can win a cup, but for the second euro Carolina did not move the needle at the trade deadline didn't do it, Max told me was just a guy.

He didn't. He didn't. It impacted team. Yes, he had a game seven that she had a ghetto about a 12 minute stretch of game seven had a nice moment, but that was it.

That was it. The only one that could so delighted that you don't need to Chicago one year, 3 million Ian call Tampa one year, 3 million population say Felicia to make sure Brandon Smith in New Jersey two years 1.1 million that Vincent Truax check to the Rangers seven years, 5.62 5,000,007 years no debt. Enjoy the last four years that what ever I like ice I can say I said before Vincent Truax check based on where he was playing in the lineup for Carolina needed to be better he needed to be better. That's not to say that a good player but he needed to be better and if he were better.

I think Carolina would've figured out a way to keep him but didn't work out other signings. Andrew Kopp to Detroit five years 5.625 the wonder of Kopp and Truax check out the same agent was 5.625 million average annual value is. Is there a closure road to Ottawa. 3.3×6 and half million Jack Campbell goalie from Toronto to Edmonton five years 5 million. Robert Thomas resides in St. Louis.

Great young player.

Eight years 8.13 million Nick to St. Louis for times for so that's that's where we are in all of that.

Go sharks hurricanes trade Gallo breaking news here per year in the Braun Brent Burns, Emily Peterson, Stephen Lawrence goalie prospect need to back and hit me in a conditional 2023 third round pick. Sharks are retaining 33% of Burns's contracts again.

Brent Burns and Lane Peterson for Stephen Lawrence goalie prospect E2 Mac and the enemy, and a conditional 20 23rd 2023 third round pick sharks retaining 33% of the Lane Peterson is a forward who will replace Stephen Lawrence on the roster.

Who knows, maybe not even sure he makes the roster he is.

He's got one year at $750,000 alloy steel right but he played 29 games in the NHL. Last year, which is to assist witches not that much below what Stephen Lawrence was providing Lawrence was a super kid who I'm not sure was ever going to be anything more than 1/4 line 4th line guy so that's the deal. This is the atom gold shell June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak.
