We continued his help show coast-to-coast on CBS sports radio. I was watching this game late Saturday night.

You could even say early Sunday morning.

It was a top 25 matchup between the Baylor Bears in the BYU cougars and the Coombs in double overtime.

Get the victory 26 to 20 there now 12th in the nation, and then being in the top 25 has now just been a regular occurrence under their head football coach colonic to talk a was kind enough to join us right now coach congratulations on the when I know you're getting set for a big matchup this week, another top 25 get together in Eugene up against Oregon, but things are carve out a few moments. Well my pleasure grew to be only so I gotta start you off and this is why love college football and just football in general. The next man up mentality you're down your top two wide receivers, and what a day. Chase Roberts had not only catching the football but also on the double pass through touchdown just habit what the youngster showed you under the old young man and we talked about her to put the goal that was a regular drip from up there and make sure that the router rolled up and saw a huge drop-off from 1 to 2 and you'll missing Osier or two top targets for last year of that stuff. Look, but it also gives an opportunity for guys like to step up and be pleasing that I'm glad that he was able to do that. I'm glad that your office coordinator Roderick MNR receivers culture pending important associate to talk to the headlock, a conference and in my book elite register run routes and players here but also the sole of all, that's love having the players feel the belief in them to make plays and I'm grateful to have the strength of the young men in position to have success perceptions hundred and 22 yards receiving touchdown. Also, the passing touch them where you at all surprised that Chase is able to do for you guys know we knew that he could do that we have we have a good group of young men and that receiving room and about. Those guys are real or replace the other two that were missing so that we all did it together there pretty productive as a group just happened a lot of the classes went well, you'll chase Roberts way and then when the duty maybe play some of your guys have some production as well and overall as a group.

I was really pleased with what's the status for two and then also going around the for this weekend day today so I wish I was an expert in the sports medicine department but I'm not sure we will do whatever is best for them first and then hopefully we can get them this weekend that would be ideal for me and for coaches but right now, so day-to-day colonic to talk to here with us to cougars of BYU 12th in the nation. They just came off the when up against top 10 Baylor and now they have number 25 Oregon this weekend and Eugene speak to me a little bit about your defense and what you saw from them over the weekend that I don't Baylor love to run the football they did so. 52 times but that wasn't a big part. The way that you guys play Blake shape and their quarterback, what's it out to about your defense with our coaches the beginning with our coordinator electrically hockey and he and working with the group and devise a great game plan is to require guys to be little bit more stout and to plug into a physical battle plot line of scrimmage and the guys feel good. Do as well last year and this year was not option for them to prove himself little bit and I was really pleased with the way they play the game. It was a perfect is generally something that we can improve on, but the mentality was right of the other guys ready. The players are ready to go like the result. But I'm on the cushion it just wasn't able to give you even better right so there's a lot of room for improvement. Still, I saw the team proved especially the line of scrimmage for week one week to the defense side and I'd like to see the same type of improvement go from week to week three.

Crazy how often Baylor was on the football coach. They ran a 52 times. I'm sitting on my couch. I think most fans probably watch that game go all. It's easy just because all they could do is just run run run so that it's easier to defend but I was waiting for them to sneak in a pass or two or maybe even three.

How difficult is that when the team starts to become one dimensional and you have to just be on your toes a little bit even though you think of runs. Always good to becoming mean to be for players to use the same look in the real bite on a play action pass or some like that but oh we knew what they have the ball on the 5 yard line. The desk on the test, will you know punch it in the foreground to have from here and we were lucky were in front of our student section. There was pretty loud. So we were able to get some help from the fans and then report back little bit and create some space for lovely guys that the resilience of our players in the belief of the can still make plays.

Even though you working stripping away and get the ball downfield and probably guys in the way they were able to respond and stopping and just went we saw what your quarterback Karen Hall could do last year.

20 touchdowns only five interceptions for people that aren't familiar with and how would you describe your quarterback a great leader do whatever it takes to win. Do you think about the team first and know that I've been really impressed with the way this is that he makes were to go with the ball did the audibles and making adjustments is feedback that he gives us when he comes off the field and then just his willingness to keep keep working at all the little details small little things that you don't see on film on the field as leaders often feel that really matters. The Molson I'm glad that he's our quarterback.

He's a great example to the rest because our team on how to love your teammates and how to relish the role that you have and he's always been a team guy. So even when he was back up to Hilton Zach Wilson is always learning try and find ways get better help team and I appreciate that mentality that the standard for the rest of the team.

So everybody's relishing the roles of soap.

Sometimes the guys on the field. A lot of the times you guys want to do enough to feel to the sidelights at the kitchen wind was no better example of that your kicker had a rough evening, but right after the game ended the moment when it was over.

You saw Jaron go right over to your kicker to try to lift them up a bit exactly that I'm very fortunate team to have a great young man in this great young men and in all of college football, but I'm very fortunate to have a good group of young men on our team that really care about each other and love each other and pick him up and obviously Jaron is one of our captain but will I saw entire team embrace Jake and Jake made me love kicks in one game thrust the passing you will win games with the future but it is important that the team you don't have his back and loved him… Is a huge step for us, regardless of the outcome of the game just worked out that we won the game but how awesome was it that her fans are storming the field or quarterback and leader was hugging her kicker and then giving him some words of advice and giving him some loving and embracing him. We also got to get to coach and wishing to credit for like all you guys are great young man and I love being around him and they make me a better person to talk to here with us head football coach at BYU on the Zach Gelb show so you discussed it a little bit as you had I Jaron all your quarterback take over for Zach Wilson is been the program. The last few years is a lot of pressure on them last year. He did a nice job for your football team. What you really challenge him in this off-season to improve on because I know you're always about getting the most out of your players and get a better day by day. I just wanted him to do whatever he could to improve and get better and… Not mutually give the direction… Our office coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Roderick, who has done a great job with quarterbacks and with this office. I wanted them to devise a plan to get Jen to take the next step thought he did a great job last year during the spot when he moved the starting spot this year was a little different now that he's a starter. So how are you perfect your craft what what are you to do to get the next step and it takes hard work and dedication, and that's what he's all about been so deceived things he did me. Off-season the leadership he showed commodity that have run our players atop the use of different level right now way different than he was last year and man I love and probably connecting on the field but more navies.

He's allowing disclosure on our team to thrive and grow stronger and letting the guys really enjoyed being around each other and showing on the field and right now we keep steamrolling and I'm going to lean heavily on Jaron and others on his team to Toledo and then to bring us along, I know you're caught up in the moment, but when you have a player like Zach Wilson is the second overall pick in an Jaron replaces Zach others good to be NFL expectations. I saw Pete Gamble from ESPN before the season started say that he expects him to be a first-round quarterback.

Do you view Jaron Hall is someone that has a big time teacher in the NFL as a potential first-round pick Oregon a first-round pick, I think we have a lot of players on our roster and this is a matter of timing when the ready to go. I don't run in the field team are and I'm not a skill for them, but willingness to share whatever information I can get to live. We give the scouts access to computer practices become watch our guys because I want them to see them in the element I want to the competing LSU help others see me how these guys work in practice that matters to me, but same time I want to keep our players focus on what's ahead.

And then right now, we focus on what's coming up this week rather than with them and be there in April or May of next year. You know so you focus on what's what's happening right now and live in this moment appreciated all the other stuff will take care of itself.

And I know it sounds clichéd everything but my job is to keep Jaron focus on what he's getting what he is doing.

How can we improve the be the best version of himself and make sure that that shows up on Saturday talking here with thoughts Oregon one and one you go to their place. This upcoming Saturday in the afternoon to have low matchup against them there quarterback bow next has some big time experience at all. But now the quarterback in Eugene had a rough first game but then bounced back in a big way and give number two what your evaluation of their quarterback and bow next
