Worship in the work with Pastor Robert Myrna series called the principles of first mention for Pastor Robert unpacks how the first time the word is mentioned in Scripture is important because it often establishes a precedent pattern or biblical concept today for talking about the first time the word and what it means for us, while blistering, Pastor Robert series for the principles of first mention last week we talked about the beginning of death. It's when a word is first mentioned in the Bible so taken these out of Genesis this is message is going be called the beginning of atonement.

I know that's not a word that we use a lot I know it's a church word.

It's a word.

Actually, God started and gets the word itself in English is not in Genesis, but it is a Hebrew. The Hebrew work so I want to show it to you in Genesis chapter 6. This is when God's talking to know what verse 14 he says make yourself an ark of gopher wood make rooms in the ark, and cover it, cover it inside and outside with pitch of this Hebrew word for cover is far it's in the Old Testament because Velma don't aspirated Hebrew made us angry so it's in the Bible and the Old Testament hundred and two times.

This is the only time it's translated cover. The only thing nearly every time it's translated atonement.

This is the Hebrew word for atonement and then Davidoff actually brings about the word for pitch as well. Maybe ransom or satisfy, to satisfy any sense covered inside counsel atonement.

What is atonement.

I spent maybe three minutes only one time in a message but this'll be the first undetectable message on but I showed you then wait to remember what it means. It means to be in unity with God are to be made one with.but the way you remember this look at the word atonement just divided into three parts. At one minute at one minute and then be the word will substitute the word with at one with me at one with God at work so you can always remember atonement met me at one with.but have a question for you. How can sinful people be made one with a holy God. Something's got to be done for a sinful person, not just to talk to God, but to be made one with God summons got happened. So that's a rental, but they Searsport number one RCN is covered member. We talk about this Hebrew word means to cover every means a little more which will get into, but the cover our sins are covered. Remember the first thing Adam and Eve tried to do when they sent a tried to cover themselves of Genesis chapter 3 verse seven then the eyes of both of them were open and I knew that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

In other words, they tried to atonement for their sin themselves. They tried to cover their sins themselves.

God comes along and you know what God did he make some new coverings Genesis chapter 3 verse 21 also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics know this word is coverings he may coverings of skin and clothes them here.

Something you need to understand only God can cover since you can't do it. You can't cover your own skin. Only God can cover Cindy's the only one that can do these the only cover so adamantly try to cover for Glenn and we found we tried to cover up ourselves, but only God can come along and truly cover mount when God is speaking to know what he says I want you to cover the ark and I love this inside and outside, inside and outside there's a reason I like that.

It means that God is covering my CN. What I did and even what I thought is covering that my outside actions, my transgressions, and is covering my inside motivations. My iniquities iniquity is inward motivation and a transgression is outward movement leverage.

You might have lost which is an inward iniquity. What you meant, may never tray move move on it outwardly, that would be to transgressor step over like trespass step overlying the Bible so perfect by the way. Isaiah 53 member iniquity is inward transgression is outward. The Bible says Isaiah 53, he was bruised for our iniquities were bruises inward bleeding and he was wounded at some outside for our transgressions, he was hurt inside for our inside CN. He was hurt on the outside for outside seating. Another reason I like this is because sin always brings shame very first thing that many felt ashamed.

They were ashamed. They felt shame. So immediately God says listen I need to cover you, and then expounds on it when he gets the Noah and says you make sure you atonement the ark cover your anomaly. Use the word atonement because I'm going to teach people what atonement is means to cover but I want you to cover it inside and out. So he modeling takes why my CN. It takes why mushing now and I don't know about you but I dealt with a lot of shape, a lot of shape. I would say that I did things lined steel ashamed of.

I would want to talk about some things that I didn't rub when want to talk about him ashamed, but I'm not carrying the shin.

I can stand up before you even when the enemy when I first started preaching enemy would say who are you to preach and not have to answer but just in faith but a son of God was forgiven at surviving.

Not perfect but forgiven. I like to leave the past in the past place I'd like to leave the past when we say things like the blood of Jesus that his blood covers Congressman so number one, our sins are covered lives number two, our sins are removed not just covered the removed because were going to become one with God. How you will become one with God when you're just wearing a covering, but underneath you still have sent to become one with God. He's actually got a removes your sentence so this word atonement is a set of hundred and two times in the Old Testament in Leviticus 16 it used 13 times in one chapter and it's one of the best representations of our sin being covered in our sin being removed. He tells him to take two goats and he said once going to be a sacrificial goat and 120 a scapegoat and we you.

You probably heard the term a scapegoat. It binds basic that's a scapegoat, but it means almost as on-site fast escape, but don't forget to what end they cast lots and you know if you're the goat are likely would be another only the sacrificial goat on the way so so one of these two sacrifice, and Easter is this Aaron the high priest is to sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat may have to remember the mercy seat covered the ark of the covenant, and in the ark was the law.

So first of all, this is such a great benefit. You need to know that there's the law all the things you got the right, but even God covers the wall with the Merck with mercy, even God and feeling to be able to to be able to atone for our sins, he applies the blood's evil.

Adam and Eve in order to close the an animal had the direct blood had to be shipped.

Hebrew says of this like without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin to God. Goes all the way back to the garden to help us understand the principle know you can't cover with the things that what so one of the go to steel.

And his blood is sprinkled on the mercy seat to cover our sins, but what about this part of atonement the means to remove our sins will be so what happens in second, even though he gets away. Initially, Leviticus 16 verse 21.

Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the lifeboat coming fast over it. I want to sum up, iniquities, transgression, sin, confess, over all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions concerning all their sealants, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man but go shall bear member Christ bore our sins on the cross but go shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an un-inhabited land and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. So here's what he saying I want to cover your CN but I'm going to remove yourself as well because it can have a relationship with you but don't build your sin so all that to the tabernacle of Moses, God is giving us types and shadows and in symbolism and allegory to help us understand what Christ did he covers and the removes are simple is a really great verse about God removing or seeing someone 03 verse 12.

As far as the east is from the west, so far as he removed our transgressions from us.

Now me just remind all you church people. This is good news because y'all are actually bad you know you look good right now right.

We've all seen we all fall short of the glory of God.

So, you did discover he removed up and removed our sins as far as the east is from the west along like a go there removed so I get in on this. Well, it's free for you, for you doesn't cost you anything. Famous preacher.

A. G. Campbell Morgan, which you probably have been a pastor.

You might recognize and thank you Vincent study he pastor Westminster Chapel in London England very famous church after him.

There were few others within their was a famous Martin Lloyd Jones very famous Festival years and then after him even not very long ago was RT Kendall and RT Kendall's been here the church. Dr. Kimball so G. Campbell Morgan very well known in. He shared some stories about his life and this is one of the stories Dr. G. Campbell Morgan was trying to explain free salvation to a coalminer but the man was unable to understand it. He said I'm going to have to pay for with a flash of divine insight. Dr. Morgan asked how did you get down into the mine this morning. He said why that was easy.

The man replied. I just got on the elevator and it went down then Morgan asked wasn't that too easy. Didn't it cost you something. The man left.

No, it didn't cost me anything. But it must've cost the company plenty to install that elevator. Then the man saw the truth. Morgan said to him, it doesn't cost you anything to be saved but it cost God the life of the sons. It is free. Salvation doesn't cost us because God ever think so. He covers our sins, he removes her senses the removal of the cover and simmer little saviors for number three and I want to spend a little. This is where my burden really is God's wrath is removed.

Our sin is covered by RCN is removed.

God's wrath is removed. Now I'm going to get a little historical, give you some history and sociology so into under about 250 BC 250 years before Christ, between 285 BC and 240 BC but 243 if you will be specific: May 2 did something. Ptolemy's father was stolen by who was one of the generals from Alexander and Alexander died. Alexander the great, the 32 Ptolemy and so Lucille took over become the total maker in the solution. Okay: I was a better Journal than his son Ptolemy.

The second he realized that people people were more moral.

The Hebrew people. The Jewish people because of the Hebrew Scriptures and so he went together 72 Hebrew scholars, six from each of the 12 tribes eventually somehow became 70.

We don't know attitude and convert to doing finish or whatever, but he put them in separate rooms did let them know there was another stalwart and told him to translate the Scriptures which would be in the Old Testament. At that time. It's all there was obviously into Greek might effectively do commentary sometime you'll set you'll see it, it will they think they just use Roman numerals. The L for 50 and then exit that some of you me on know about the Roman numerals because you've seen the Super Bowl.

That's what those letters may okay so so sometimes you'll see. According to the L accepts, which means the 70 which means the transcription 70. The symptoms affect so they translated it and they took all 70 together and this is what history says that they were exactly like we don't know for sure, obviously, but that's for the reported that there was no variation and that's the Septuagint now why did I why my telling you that because when they translated into Greek. There was no word in Greek for atonement.

And yet it's 102 times in the Scriptures below work so they look for a Greek word to translate. They chose the Greek word propitiation. While it's not the report that's our English word eroded down and left because also he wanted to last in a state real so it's becomes propitiation. It's in the New Testament and mainly in Romans overlook that in a moment. But why did I give you that the lesson because propitiation includes expiation, which is out means the covering on the removing of CM but the pro means the removal of wrath is what the world needs now. It was usually Greek mythology. Some people like that and it was used because they would people would try to appease a God like the rain God are the prosperity God or the son God and they would bring a gift. And that's help that the false deities begin to use his work, but you need understand what's different about this is that is not a person bringing the gift to appease God.

God appeasing himself is God providing the gift God provided his son Jesus Christ and by the way lite what else pro means what you know this propitiation, expiation means out of pro means for.

Have you ever said what are the pros and cons, liens against programs for what this means is that God was against you, but now is for you. You need to know that God does have anger.

Anger is an emotional decision as a matter fact, the Bible commands you to be angry.

Ephesians 426 is be angry but do not sin. In other words, you can be angry but don't go kill. That's a sin, but you can be angry okay to be angry. It's an emotion. God has joy he has brief debris. The Holy Spirit he gets angry. I want to make a statement. This will be a little strong because when I did it. Debbie gave me the look like do you like another. I sent God is angry with the wicked, everyday.

Now I've taught you and I'm training.

Sometimes you don't even know on train you, but I'm training you never believe anything that said from this platform or that you are on TV or the Internet, whether it's me or anyone else without that person been able to back it up with the Bible as we don't care about people's opinions. We care about what the Bible says so maybe you're thinking okay pastor you trained us to not believe anything that said this platform even which you without a Scripture you just said God is angry with the wicked everyday.

Do you have a Scripture. I'm glad you asked. Psalm seven verse 11.

God is angry with the wicked, everyday. Would you be when you think about wicked people hurt people and goblets people. Of course, is angry with the wicked because wicked people hurt people and goblets people now want to give you a horrific illustration is horrific. If there was a man who was torturing little children to death. Would it make you angry. Course it would not give Mrs. horrific Tom Sardi would say this, but Dutch get you to understand God has righteous anger. What if he did it to your child support should be going. God is angry with the wicked everyday so you need to know that the Bible teaches us about the anger of God the wrath of God, and you need to know the God of vengeance doesn't revanche be of interest. There is a difference of vengeance to punish revenge is to punish back in what he says is, don't you don't you do it all the matrix is not what he saying is I'm the only one that justify the punish and adjust. But I'm the only one that sin occupied punish that you punch but God asked Marinelli short description Romans three verse 25 says who God set forth. Romans 325 whom God set forth as a propitiation by his blood through faith to demonstrate his righteousness because it is forbearance God has passed over the sins which are produced. I've also said no don't take one Scripture and try to present you need understand that Romans talks that wrapped 10 times rec.Romans one says the wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness in Rochester wrath of God. Romans to talk about twice so wrath is so God does have wrath. So this is where God comes and covers. Now remember the Scripture married to James 120 says for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God in the listen carefully to the wrath of man does not produce righteous of God, but the wrath of God produce the righteousness of mine. God was angry at your CM so he sent his son John 316 says he sent God from some of the world he sent his son to take your punishment so you could be made the righteousness of Christ is what the wrath of God to you need to know God was angry because if you don't know that he was angry.

You can't be happy now that is nodding with you to understand. So it's all through Scripture and I had at least 30 scriptural rec.but didn't have time to go through what it means is that God has stage wrath has been satisfied. Now we started with no one are right someone again with no one art.

What is the promise that God will never again flood the earth what's across rainbow right but did you know God references know what in the arguments and other problems. He references the flood faces unlike another prompts. Isaiah 54 versus 89 with a little wrath see does have wrath I hid my face from you for moment, but with everlasting kindness. I will have mercy on you, says the Lord, you're ready for this is like the waters of know what to make. As I have sworn that the waters of Norwood no longer cover the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you know review. What God says I'll never be angry with you again. That's a promise. That's a good promise, and here's why. Because my son told Fergerson covered them. He removes them and he satisfied my own everything. That's my burden for you this week by burden is for you to know God is not mad because Jesus is our propitiation.
