The Robe of Righteousness

To worship in the word with Pastor Robert today were starting a new series called sons not serve. I'm your host Patrick and I just want to welcome you into thinking so much for tuning in with us this new series focuses on one of the most powerful parables Jesus ever told, which is the story about the prodigal son in Luke 15. Even if you've heard this parable 100 times. There's still so much we can learn from.

Over the next three messages.

Pastor Robert is going to share the glorious truth of a relationship with the father and how we've been given a robe of righteousness, a ring of authority in shoes of such. So let's jump right in with three week series. I'll be here all three weeks and I'm calling the series songs, not servants. And I'm taking it from the story. Luke 15 of the prodigal son and that he wanted to be treated like a servant because his behavior had been bad, but the father still treated him like a son and so I know that we do serve the Lord. I know that most of the apostles begin their epistles with servant of the of Jesus Christ servant of God.

I know were servants and I know we serve. But I've got to clarify some things that and here's the main thing were not sons because we serve we serve because were sucks, but were songs because a birthright, not because of behavior say that one more time were sons and daughters because a birthright, not behavior in order to look at this in Scripture here, but when the sun returns the prodigal son returns the father gives a three gifts so were going take the next three weeks allegedly free gifts in the first is the robe of righteousness gives him a robe array shapes and so we'll talk about the robe of righteousness and what that means right but this notice were going to read a little bit and look for faith. Notice how many times you'll see the word son or you'll see the word serve right and want to show you some things out of all my years of preaching and special 50 never seen before. Look at verse 17 it says that when he came to himself, you know that's the prodigal son when he realized he would be better give yet that's what it means in the Greek, he said, how many of my father's hired servants.

I just want you notice the word hired because he's talking about employees here guides on how much slaves. Nobody employees are people who are enslaving so many boards hired they get paid for what they did. How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough brand.

I just simply want to remind you we talk about the blessed life and beyond. Last that, that doesn't mean the car we drive or the house we live in or anything like that means we have more than enough.

We have enough to provide for our family and more paperwork to help others. So he's saying even my father's employees have more than enough more than enough bread but I perish here with hunger memories in the PPM right now. I will arise and go to my father and I will say to him. Father, I sinned against heaven and before you come back. This phrase will watch this.

I am no longer worth it to be called your son. There's a large Sunday artsy Lord servants treated me as one of your hired servants are not worthy to be called the son treat me like a servant. Father, I sinned against heaven and before you, and I'm no longer worthy to be called your son. Galatians 4 therefore you are no longer a slave but a son by the way John in his pocket. So what's the robe represent again it's the robe of righteousness, I will show you several Scripture throughout the message, but let me show you what Isaiah 60 1C and I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, the robe of righteousness. So let me remind you what does righteousness mean it means right standing with God right standing with God. But here we don't talk about member always liked reports.

Here's the number one earned our gift because this will change everything in your life and you can't imagine how many of you will give the answer. It's a gift, but you act like it's armed. This changes everything about the way you see God. Everything about the way you see yourself everything about the way you see your behavior and your performance. Everything about the way you see others.

Everything about the way you treat yourself everything about the way you treat others everything you Brathwaite 3.you can't imagine how if if I could flip the switch you that it is 100% against and 0% are tell me what the prodigal son had done to earn these three gifts been prodigal wasteful living living without restraint is what product will meet at and especially in the area of sex, promiscuity and drinking that's that's the definition being a product. So what had he not done to earn these two gifts nothing that they were gifts and I want you to notice what he said yes this is the part out of all the times I've read this and preached on this passage. I'd never seen this verse 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. I am no longer worthy to be dissected.

That tells me that means at some point he thought he was working. Think about it.

In other words, what you said. I'm not worthy to be called your son. He said I'm no longer working. I was when I stayed home. When I did the right thing. I was worth it. When I did the wrong thing that was important.

I listen we think this white we come to church and we had a bad way we think. I'm not worthy this weekend to worship God to lift my hands I'm like Obama hypocrite.

Nobody knows what I did this week what I did last night. I am no longer worthy to be called a son or daughter and have a good week and we say what I read in the devotional.

So this week I'm working.

Let me just give you some good news which is actually maybe bad news to you but it's actually good news were more if you do if you didn't watch all seven days and not worthy. So you show a few verses now I'm in Romans four and is talk about Abraham, but he quotes some Old Testament Scriptures to back it up and then it applies it's us and I'll go back to the Scripture about Abraham, but it will start with that, then you'll see why the moonlight Romans four verse six says. Romans four, verse 23.

Now it was not ready for his sake alone is so not Abraham that it was imputed to him, but also for us. It was written for us.

It shall be imputed to our accounts shall be balanced to us who believe in him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead. Is it on righteousness know it's imputed it's it's a gift it's free so you can't say I'm not worthy this week as I just want you know you're more than last week and will be one day next week. So here's the Scripture were Romans four, puts all this together but I want to show you a different word in the English it's the exact same Greek word for imputed.

That's the same Greek word of the two.

I just read that are imputed right.

Romans four verse three for what does the Scripture say Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to EM for righteousness. In other words, when Abraham believed God put his faith in God. God put righteousness in Abraham's account and the reason that he can do that is because he put Abraham's CN into the sun's account.

The reason your account got balanced is because cod took your day at out of your tail and put his assets in your account.

Thenceforth I've removed your iniquity from you and I will clothe you with rich roads. I remove your iniquity. Now remember I told you a few months ago in a message iniquity is from the root word in equity. In other words, what you iniquity me is not equal. It's getting equitable here. Here's what this meant. None of us are equal with God put all the good you've ever done. You'll never be equal with God. You can't make it all away never be equal with God is to invite Jesus in your life is equal.but he said I removed your filthy garments. Now here's what all of us think that means a sense and he said I remove your iniquities.

It is, it does base inequities, but I take that just a little bit farther there were two trees in the garden. There was the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Say we think a lot about iniquity is only being able to understand is even what you've done. That's good is that God you saline got over to the tree of life See a lot of times we actually say I'm trying to choose free what's good and bad know should be trying to play much life-and-death. You don't only have not been accuser.

It is more of an intercessor at the right hand of God is to have an accuser at the right hand of God.

There's no reason to do this I'm talking about righteousness is a gift, but we still should live righteously. We now have the power of the Holy Spirit to live righteously. It doesn't mean were going be perfect, but does mean well to try to be righteous in the live righteously. Revelation 19 we talked about the price. The bride says, and her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. So there's righteousness. A robe of righteousness that I get just because I accept Jesus as my Savior. But when I go to heaven. There's fine linen that I'm close with which were my own righteous acts that idea under the power of the Holy Spirit unrighteous because the blood of Jesus.

I'm not righteous by my performance unrighteous by his performance, but I'm tempted to live unrighteously sometimes and that's when, after a long Holy Spirit.
