For most of us, there was a moment during the initial lockdown where reality hit, and we all realized things were going to look very different for quite a while. In this conversation, we discuss how many churches embraced the change and used it to fuel their passion to continue to preach the Gospel and meet human needs in Jesus’ name without discrimination.

Hi this is breathing welcome to the Salvation Army's words of life. Welcome back to words of life. I am Bernie Jake and with me again is our producer Chris Benjamin hello everyone Chris I don't want to be offended but I enjoy seeing Cheryl here, but you haven't dulcet tones in your voiceover gladly are part I enjoy seeing Cheryl here as well so don't don't be alarmed, shall be back payment, Chris. I don't know if you saw this to, but this week in our series. The post Koba church the panel and I discussed that moment in the early stages of the lockdown when suddenly all of us had a reality check. Like the honeymoon was over.

Now what I think you know if if were honest. For those of us that were blessed and privileged enough to continue to have a job. So many people were laid off and just heartbreaking for those of us that did there was a lot of newness that you know if were honest. It is like a little excitement in the air like cool working from home from the first time of the zoom because of these are funny, you know, this kind of thing and there is a point when eventually was just a cam over it and then reality set in. Your like were going to be here for a while. Right.

I think some of us were talking about a show that we saw on Netflix called alone and what you notice is people that are alone slowly lose their ability to just kind of exist and and that interaction for me what is true. If I don't have people in my life. I feel like something is missing and man. I'm just glad that in some semblance of order were getting back slowly and safely probably socially distancing all the rest, but I'm ready for us to have a new maven notice during the panel discussion if their voices sound muffled. It's because everyone in the room was wearing a mask right now should mention that earlier but we were being safe and mindful sure well were continuing to pray for our listeners and our station partners, praying that you continue to stay safe. This episode and next week's was actually one longer conversation was split into two episodes.

So if the end of this conversation leaves you hanging a little while just listen like we need to be surrounded by people that are getting the front lines of the Salvation Army's work around the 15 SE. states district of Columbia courses worldwide. We got all around the world. This is not exclusive to the United States were living in a post-Cold War world. How did the church respond during coated now what does it look like post. We have purpose and through and remain purposefulness Christian people literally lost looking for old but I want diving a little further and see what is happening in your communities and what is outside of the physical walls of your church.

Some of you have had some pretty ministry that didn't involve building, perhaps start their story. Example of that kind of ministry trees, missing seniors and those who cannot come out safely. I sat there cool people are and we training all year last see Billy shooting was just as real when you're over 88 boxes and just come you. We realize number one we need for Leslie need parents being that our calling out to the soldiers saying you need help boxes initiate you were coming to the evenings and a few boxes shot out a lot of companies that these guys weren't working jobs there. Hey, can we send our volunteers GK we had six anywhere from 3 to 6 yell mechanics and engineers saying shows all things are just not community where the sound in the shadows and Christmas we see here.

See counseling VOCs once protected us more time to go use some message I know you and you know so you is is so you know you as you can use as so sure I was sure that we have all you know Jesus you Salvation Army soup soap and salvation early days citations were going out beating the drum in the streets bringing the message below helping people get cleaned up to listen to the gospel message so not something new. It's pretty awesome Jerry saying for us the spiritual side will help us with small groups were small small people, but we think that we had about adult small rooms establishing that help us because we know the member member we see that our pastors in this officers were overwhelmed with the Sunday morning try to figure virtual worship and handling everything around each other to help each other on the spiritual side okay now you need to call people is usually okay to be overwhelming for your pastor, so that engagement held somewhere in the parking lots were in the driveways whereafter homes at the birthday we play music outside. Happy birthday phone calls and pastors of what's going on down in the level of the congregation so that extremely important prayer is Bible studies is small. Check being intentional about so I think is a very important part in establishing smaller small. This is a selfish attempt at me trying to get presents here to the office during call it.

I turned 50 years old.

It was the end of April and a brother in Christ, a friend of mine came by our home dropped off a fossil package doorstep, not breaking the social distance rules, leaving something there that was thoughtful and that's when I broke out sort of depression just speaks when I was stuck at home had been charged with the responsibility of getting boxes out and I was just kind of wrestling with that. That's when the light went off for me purpose to start reaching out and making connections that were purposeful connector getting on the phone and getting on with the technology of video chat brother sister is to go along with it shouldn't stop trying to discuss engagement level of relationship digging deep into the spiritual life where the rat can't stop. So I think we just have to be my people.
