Answering questions by doing what you were during Johnson deals with 36 commonly asked questions by your LDS friends and neighbors. It's a great resource for Christians want to share their faith with friends and loved ones. We should pick up your copy today at your favorite Christian bookstore viewpoint on Mormonism program that examines the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from a biblical perspective viewpoint on Mormonism is sponsored by Mormonism research ministry since 1979 Mormonism research ministry has been dedicated to equipping the body of Christ with answers regarding the Christian faith in a manner that expresses gentleness and respect. And now, your host for today's viewpoint on Mormonism. The first presidency and world of the 12 apostles counsel together and share all the Lord has directed us to understand and to feel individually and collectively. Then we watched the Lord move upon the president of the church to proclaim the Lord's will. This prophetic process was followed in 2012 with the change in minimum age for missionaries and again with the recent additions to the church's handbook consequence to the legalization of same-sex marriage.

In some countries filled with compassion for all and especially for the children we wrestled with links to understand the Lord's will in this matter, ever mindful of God's plan of salvation and of his full or eternal life. For each of his children, we considered countless permutations and combinations of possible scenarios that could arise. We met repeatedly in the temple and fasting and prayer, and sought further direction and inspiration and then the Lord inspired his profit Pres. Thomas S.

Monson to declare the mind of the Lord in the will of the Lord.

Each of us during that sacred moment felt spiritual confirmation. It was our privilege as apostles to sustain what had been revealed to Pres. Monson revelation from the Lord to his servants is a sacred process what you just heard was an excerpt from a talk given by Russell M. Nelson titled becoming true, millennial's welcome to this additional viewpoint on Mormonism. I'm your host, Bill McKeever, founder and director Mormonism research ministry and with me today is Eric Johnson. My colleague at M. R.

M in 2016 this talk was given by Russell and Nelson discussing a policy change regarding the children of those in same-sex relationships, not why is this important. The reason why it's important is just recently on April 4, 2019. The policy that Russell M. Nelson is referring to in that excerpt that you just heard was completely reversed and before we get into what was said on April 4 I think it's important for us to examine closely what was said on January 10, 2016 when Russell M. Nelson at that time, being the president of the quorum of the 12 apostles. He makes it very clear in this talk that the policy that was instituted in 2015. In November 2015 was inspired by the Lord and given to the leadership of the LDS church were talking 3 1/2 years later a policy that was made in 2015. At the end of that year was changed in the middle of 2019 is not a very long time.

Bill, what is amazing to me isn't naturally because of the content of the course correction that we just heard on April 4. There were a lot of latter-day Saints that were really all excited about because when this came out. Originally there were a lot of Mormons that were pretty upset that the children of those that are involved in the same-sex relationship would be virtually punished by not being allowed to be baptized or have a blessing put upon them because of the actions of their parents that I would say that seems to go along with what Jesus was saying when you think about it, because Jesus said, suffer the little children to come unto me, nowhere does Jesus intimate that they can only come to him if the parents were believers or not being involved in any type of sexual sin or any other type of sin and that I think upset a lot of Latter Day Saints now I'm more concerned with this course correction because I think what we saw just a few days ago definitely tells me as a Christian that this church is not run by men who claim to be led by the Lord of the Bible. Now certainly, they got their own God. They've admitted that the God of Mormonism is certainly different than the God of the rest of Christendom. They've admitted that not only never argue that case but I think this demonstrates that these men are not true prophets.

They are in fact.

Profits because what they do is they give the impression to their people that they are speaking on behalf of the Almighty.

In this context, the Almighty God of Mormonism definitely when in fact is you said Eric they can completely reversed the position and still credit the same God for this new course correction. But let's look very carefully what he says in this paragraph and this is titled becoming true, millennial's, and it was a worldwide devotional for young adults that was given on January 10, 2016 at Brigham Young University in Hawaii and I might mention before you go on Eric that if someone wants to listen to this talk. It is online if you just type in becoming true, millennial's and type in Russell M Nelson's name. This talk will come up fast forward 18 minutes and 50 seconds into his message because that's where it gets to this line were about to look at. He said the first presidency and quorum of the 12 apostles counsel together and share all the Lord has directed us to understand and to feel individually and collectively, and then we watched the Lord move upon the president of the church to proclaim the Lord's will. Let me stop you there because notice the words that are being used here that the Lord has directed us so obviously there crediting the one they call the Lord. The Lord has directed us to both understand and to feel that's an interesting word feel individually and collectively, and he's going to use that word feel later on in the I think that's important because when we talk to Latter Day Saints and we also how do you know this is really of God.

Oftentimes what are we here we hear well I should feel it.

I feel the presence of the Holy Ghost. When I hear these things being said or when I read for instance from the book of Mormon, or the doctrine and covenants so subjective feeling becomes very important to the member of the LDS church and obviously it's very important to Russell M. Nelson as he states in the sentence that you just read the next part. He says this prophetic process was followed in 2012 with the change in minimum age for missionaries and again with the recent additions to the churches handbook consequent to the legalization of same-sex marriage. In some countries this prophetic process was followed in 2012 at the change in minimum age for missionaries.

We know that Thomas S.

Monson made an announcement in October 2012. In general conference that they were going to lower the age of the missionaries from 19 to 18 for males and from 21 to 19 for females, but I have to admit, looking at the speech. Again, very closely. I can't recall walking away from that announcement as being anything other than a policy correction.

Here we have Nelson giving at the same kind of status as he thinks should be given to the same-sex marriage proposal that's being given here or just been given. You might say at the end of 2015. He's putting it in the same category. Notice he talks about the prophetic process was followed in 2012. The change in minimum age for missionaries and again with the recent additions to the churches handbook consequent to the legalization of same-sex marriage. In some countries, can you tell us what the churches handbook is all about.

Will the church puts out these handbooks and I have a copy of the 2010 addition of what's known as handbook one stake presidents and bishops and then there's another part to it handbook to titled administering the church 2010 that when this course correction was made in 2015.

They inserted that into the handbook and I have a copy of that very page I might mention that in the handbook of the one that I have. Page 57 under the classification of apostasy and that's important because what they said just recently is that those that are involved in same-sex marriage. That's no longer considered an apostate behavior. They said just recently what what they did in this addition. In other words, the one that came out right after the announcement in 2015.

They inserted in their under apostasy. It says, as used here.

Apostasy refers to members who in my addition, there were four bullet points in the newer edition there's five white because point number four became those who are in same gender marriage that now is going to be removed in the newer handbook. So here we learned that this was added because it was the mind and the will of the Lord and now are being told is being removed because of the mind and the will of the Lord. You see how confusing this is now.

Is this really the God of the Bible who's doing this. Is he really behind all these changes will not. According to first Corinthians 1433 that seems to make it very clear that the God released Paul's God because he's the one that wrote first Corinthians 1433 he says for God is not a God of confusion. But of peace. So this is will the argument that I'm trying to make here.

You cannot say that is the mind and will of the Lord to insert this into the handbook that apostate behavior includes those who are in the same gender marriage and then come out 3 1/2 years later and say well I guess it isn't working to take that out now. I can only pray that those Latter Day Saints who think this through will see that I think this is God in his mercy given them an opportunity to see very clearly that their leadership is not speaking on behalf of God just setting aside with the issue was all about. I'm just talking about this idea that God speaks to these men and then God speaks to them later and reverses himself. This is not what the God of the Bible does. He doesn't do this, but apparently it seems to be no problem for the God of Mormonism, the God of Russell M. Nelson to say something and then three years later, completely reversed himself and remember, folks, both incidences are credited to the Lord Nelson goes on in his talk, and he said, and then when the Lord inspired his profit Pres. Thomas S.

Monson to declare the mind of the Lord and the will of the Lord. Each of us during that sacred moment felt a spiritual confirmation. It was our privilege as apostles to sustain what had been revealed to Pres. Monson revelation from the Lord to his servants is a sacred process. Let's go back when the Lord inspired his profit Pres. Thomas S.

Monson, notice Nelson is giving credit to God. More specifically, the Lord inspired his profit to do what to declare the mind of the Lord and the will of the Lord. That's what he revealed to Thomas S. Monson and then he goes on to say that each of us during that sacred moment felt a spiritual confirmation. It was our privilege as apostles to sustain what had been revealed revealed to Monson by whom, by the Lord. So here he is crediting the Lord speaking to Thomas Monson. Can that really be working to discuss this and tomorrow show. Thank you for listening you would like more information regarding his research ministry.
