How To Really Be Happy - Part 2

According to Jesus with this message really that way feel some of you may remember, wrote a novel called going all the way published back in 1970. It was on the Newsweek bestseller list back into sold 800,000 copies in paperback and then later, was interviewed after you publish this book and somebody ask him how he felt about the success you achieve. Because this is what it always dream and here is a direct quote. Here's what he said the dream of a lifetime had been realized and I was delighted.

I was also nervous and anxious.

I learned what people have testified since the beginning of time, but that no one really believes until he has the experience that success and achievement, and rewards are all fine, but they do not transform you they do not bring about a state of built-in contentment or inner peace or security, much less salvation. The novel was not the answer to all of life's problems as I thought it would be. So I went out and had another drink." What was he saying this is what I wanted. I gave everything I had to it without abatement and I got it and I had to say is that all there is central Jesus said happy are the hungry know what the world says the world's is you want to not be hungry.

You want to be satisfied. You want to have anything lacking in your life, that's a sign of not being successful. So get everything you can gorge yourself with it. And Jesus comes along and in the spiritual realm. He says there is a kind of joy that comes from the inner desire to grow into the nature of godliness, through Jesus Christ. Happy are the hungry, the world says that happiness is being served by others. Jesus is blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Happy are the helpers, Jesus himself came into the world and he said I did not come into this world to be served but to serve and to give my life a ransom for many.

You can market now men and women.

The people who really understand happiness, especially those who walk with Christ have learned that happiness is not in being served.

Happiness is in serving others. The triangle of the world says that when you get to the top of the triangle everybody underneath the serving you and Jesus comes along and he says let me turn that triangle upside down.

If you want to be great.

You gotta be the least among everyone and it's not how many people are serving you. How many people you are serving pastors and churches must understand that we are here to serve the people through the study and teaching of the word of God. We are not here for the people to serve us and the greater joy of life comes in understanding this truth.

Happy are the helpers happy of the merciful, for they shall be administered to you want to be minister to minister to others because it will always come back to you in the world says that happiness and joy is in unrestrained freedom of the sexual revolution. All of these things that we have now in our culture in the name of freedom.

We don't want to violate the right of free speech and so we allow any kind of sordid thing in the world to be portrayed in our culture, and you've heard and read all of the illustrations that are so current and that's all supposed to bring us the sense that we are in control of our destiny. We are free.

Happy are the free, says the world.

Jesus comes along is happy are the holy blessed are the pure in heart. Let me tell you something I know for a fact as a pastor for over 30 years.

There are no happy adulterers, there are no happy fornicators there any people happy like that.

You'll get happiness through unrestrained passion.

Happiness comes to holiness as Jesus, I'm telling you, these are strange words in the world in which we live. They run directly counter to everything you see and hear and feel in the culture where we reside happy are the holy then Jesus said happy happy are the healers the world says if you're in the structure of your culture, especially in the realm of the secular world. If you want to get to the top. Don't be concerned if your peers are antagonistic to each other. In fact, it might be in your best interest even to foster that contention. The competition between the two people you're competing with. Let them knock each other out. Then you climb up on the carnage of their situation and go on to the top is with the world.

So that's a plus for you guys work in the secular world you notice so much of that going on the political maneuvering and all of the stuff that happens, and it's not just out of the world. Sometimes it happens in the church to Jesus comes along and he says no. Blessed are the peacemakers find people that are separate and heal them. Don't foster the continued contention. You gotta promise somebody mended. That's God's way. Happy are the harassed coming you know I'm harassed.

I'm supposed to be happy. Jesus said blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake and for my sake because it's a compliment. You belong to me. It's a credential you're a Christian it's a catalyst. It will help you grow. It's a condition to your future glory in the kingdom.

Go back over those and just think about it for a moment, would you write a formula like that if somebody ask you how to be happy. Happy are the humble, happy are the hurting, happy are the hardest. Happy are the hungry, happy are the holy happy are they helpers happy are the healers and happy other harassed Jesus said disable pastor.

I still don't get it. I don't see how you can be happy with all those things Jesus said, you know the word for blessed in the book of Matthew is the word you will again in the Greek language and doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the word Gulick DR is the word from which we get the word eulogy when do we give a eulogy when it's all over.

When the guy can't talk back right when he said everything is going to say and done everything he's going to do then we eulogize. Jesus said there's a way you can have eulogy all through your life you can have the Blessing and benediction of God from the very beginning. If you follow these principles.

These are the principles for joy and happiness in the Christian experience but as we close this series, and as we think back over what we've learned. I want to tell you something.

This is not a walk in the park. What I'm talking about. Again this back to these two worlds.

Here is this world over here and here is the world which the Lord Jesus is talking, but we are in this world but we are not to be of this world God has put us here.

We can get out of the world we have to die to get out of the world.

That's not the issue. The issue is that while we were living in this culture, we have to learn how to live God's way in God's way isn't the world's way and there is a credible tension between these two worlds. I want to give you a passage of Scripture that I think will help you begin at least to understand how these things can be true in your life and how they can be true in my life. Turn with me to the first Psalm, I want to show you how incredibly detailed business plan that the psalmist gave us for living in this world, but living of that world and there's two points I want you to notice from someone will take this very quickly, but I hope you will never forget this because this can make a difference in your life from now on, if you will understand what I'm going to say these next few moments the Beatitudes in the sermon on the Mount Wilson card to click into your system but you have to understand these two principles.

Here's the first principle I want to say in order for this to happen.

You have to understand the aggressive pole of the world on your life.

Now read with me the first couple of verses. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. I want you to notice three things about this one verse. First of all I want you to note the progression of the world.

The psalmist uses three words for what goes on in the world. Here they are ungodly sinners, scornful read it again. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of the sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. And if you take those in that order. There like this ungodly is here that's the entrance place ungodly just means without God's life without God is not necessarily mean spirited.

It's not necessarily directed in any direction is just gonna leave God out.

If you leave God out of your life. The Bible says you what you ungodly the next step after that downward is the word sinner that's overt activity in opposition to God's revealed truth. So now you have moved from minus God to overt activity against God, and then the third word is the word scornful and that's where they'll use overt opposition to God.

So you gone from just minus God to overt activity against God to rebellious, scornful blasphemers attitudes toward God. What direction do you go when you pulled into the world system you go up know you doing with the entry-level and it's down down down the ungodly sinners, scornful notice. Secondly, the pole of the world and that again there's three words.

If you look down at your textual seed in the first word is the word counsel.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of the sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.

Three words counsel path seat. Watch the pool counsel is you considerate. The path is you contemplated the seat is you're comfortable with an interesting just to listen to it counsel then you contemplated. You can walk in the path of it and then you sit down right in the midst of it and you're comfortable with is not the way it works is an ethic pulled look back over your life and think about things you used to be sensitive to the are not sensitive to anymore.

How did it happen you listen to what you thought about it and now you're comfortable with the pole of the world.

The notice thoroughly the permanence of it again. Three words look down at your Bibles and notice first you walk and then you stand and then use it the way happens first disassociation you walk then it's identification you stand and limits fixation.

You sit sperm when I want you to see just from this one will passage minimum it is. That's where the world is and that's what it's like to live where we live, and I'm not just saying that really different than this is the system we live in. And then Jesus walks into the midst of the system and he says no I don't want you to live like that in the downward pull of the world.

I want you to live up here. Blessed art in any gives us all these qualities and he says this is the life I want you to live in a throw up our hands and we say Lord not in this world and the Lord says yes in this world you have to understand the aggressive pole of the world, but number two you have to undertake an aggressive program in the word I want you to think about spiritual dialysis. The only way you're going to be able to survive with the poison all over you is to have a renewing of your mind and listen to what the psalmist says Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel stands not in the paths. It's not in the seat.

He delights in the law of the Lord and in that law. What does he do, he meditates day and night and I've tried to impress upon you because it's been true in my own personal experience.

When I open the Bible these days it's a little different than it's ever been.

When I open the Bible to read for my own personal devotion, and for my own personal growth. I have the sense when I'm reading the word of God that this is so different than everything around me that what I'm reading is in a whole different universe. I never really sensed it like that before, but I am absolutely true. When I say to you that when you read this book you are getting a transfusion of heavenly heavenly culture into your system and if you try to make it in this world that pulls you down down down without an intake from the word of God you cannot live according to the principles of Jesus in Matthew chapter 5 and you will never be happy because you have been ruined for happiness in this world that you know that when you came to Jesus Christ as your Savior, ruling for trying to be happy in this world because when you came to Christ. He put the Holy Spirit in you and you can never be happy. Now unless your with him soon walk around or try to be happy.

The world's way.

But when you walk down the alley accepted Christ done your fixed you can be happy any awakes of God's way and the only way you can be happy. God's way is to get into the word and let the word of God cleanse you, and constantly renewing. Paul said in Romans chapter 12 verses one to I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that she be not conformed to this world but be transformed how by the renewing of your mind by getting into God's word and letting God's word constantly fresh you with God's way and you can do this once a week.

You can't get this on Sunday from pastor Jeremiah you can get it once a day on Turning Point or any other gospel ministry got to get in the book yourself and if you do that little by little, these principles we talked about over these past weeks start to click in and you will start to see all yeah I see that I understand that now and what the Bible says. The Bible says if you do that you will be like a tree planted by the waters and the fruit of that tree will be plenteous because the roots go down deep in your life whether it says and whatever you do is going to prosper, but if you choose to live the world's way of happiness be like that.

It won't be like that at all. I want you look down at your Bibles one more time.

Someone tell me what the first word in the psalmist. What is a class that allowed the last word parish new King James the last word parish. Blessed parish say those words out loud. Blessed parish was in the two choices those of the two worlds you want happiness, the world's way. It will end up in destruction and the well-being, happiness, and in the end, you lose it all. But if you want happiness. God's way you can find through his word. If you trust him. I have a book that somebody gave me when I first started in the ministry called Borden of Yale will overlook some of you may have read.

It's a missionary story is not a novel it's actually true stories about a guy named Bill Borden who was born into aristocracy was born into the Borden family, which was one of the rich eastern families in the United States least important milking the Borden all of that was all part of that whole thing and Bill Borden was the number one son and his family and he was to inherit the whole business and got got a hold of his life when he was in college he came home one semester and he told his mom and dad that he was going to China as a missionary and they couldn't believe it said you're going where I'm going to China as a missionary's father said what you know. If you do that normally disinherit you because I want someone to stay here and run this business if you go to China to walk away from the incredible wealth of the Borden family and Bill Borden that he left. I like to tell you the is a grand finale to the story by limiting what happened to the man you want to China as a missionary and during his first term. He got a disease and just a few months after he got to the mission field. He died and they were cleaning out his room and they found a notepad next to his desk and on the notepad were written these words no retreat, no return, no regrets. I wonder if when you get done with your life. You know be able to say no regrets was a happy he was far happier dying in China in the will of God, knowing that he was where God wanted him to be in the center of God's will than he ever would've been staying home living in the lavish flap of his family's fortune and he said at the end of his life. No regrets. Jesus said there's a way to be happy. The world knows nothing about.

We need to spend our lives cultivating that in the measure in which we find that will be the measure in which we will know real personal joy and happiness in her life. Other I pray that you will help me to develop these qualities in my life.I know I can do it in my own strength and if your word is not fresh in my heart every day. If I am not getting a constant intake of your truth. Going through me refreshingly renewing me I will never be able to live like this.

Lord, in the measure in which I live like that now. It's because of what you've done in my heart through your precious word. I know that sometimes Lord I must sound to these dear people like him off on a Bible kick of some sort.

Lord, I'm not because I know that there just isn't any way to be the kind of people we need to be in this world with all of the whole against us plus were constantly being energized day and night meditating, walking and delighting in your word Lord is not a guilt trip. It's an encouragement speech. Just a reminder to us that there is a way to survive. There is a way to go on the victory that way is through the precious word of the Lord make his people of the book Lord make his men and women who hunger and thirst after your truth and lift us up to that high and holy standard of righteousness, which the world knows nothing of and maybe see the joy that is in us and covet the Jesus who is the source of it. We ask that your perfect will will be done in life. Christ will be exalted and glorified in his name, lifted up, pray this in the matchless and strong name of the Savior. Amen when we finish a series like this one, which we have just finished today.
