Our mission is to break down the walls of recent nomination, your chosen truth radio broadcast will be starting in just a few seconds. Thank you. This is the Truth Network show me the money. Who's a person said that no it was not Jerry McGuire. It was the Lord Jesus Christ. And it happened in Luke chapter 20 in our journey this amazing Gospel of Luke as Jesus Christ is once again confronted by another group of naysayers and attackers and robbed yours with me on Stu Epperson Robbie good had was my friend. The Christian car guy is at his post, and he's in Areva Scripture force as we jump into experience true this week in our journey to Luke Luke chapter 20 verses 19 to 26 okay am the chief priests and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on him, but they feared the people, for they knew he had spoken this parable against him. So they watched him and sent spies who pretended to be righteous that they might seize on his words in order deliver him to the power and the authority of the government then ask him saying teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly and you do not show personal favoritism but teach the way of God in truth is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not, but he perceived their craftiness and said to them, why do you test me. Show me a denarius whose image and inscription doesn't have an answered and said Caesars and he said to them, render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's. They couldn't catch him in his words, in the presence of the people and they marveled at his answer and Silence.

It is the first question Robbie is going to open it up right here.

Why was there such anger and hatred among the religious leaders so these religious leaders limiting what they did.

They hated each other. They hated each other never fight fight with your brothers and sisters in the backseat. A station wagon traveled across the country. I know I remember that in by the second someone lifted a hand against my sister or or made a comment about her.

It was on right.

Suddenly we had a common enemy because there was the know we were the we were together against them. These religious leaders.

The Herodian's the Sadducees, the Pharisees did a lot of these folks had different sex different groups within a common hate their hatred for Jesus was greater then their hatred for each other is fasting as it opens up by saying chief priests and scribes that are our they sought to lay hands on him, but they feared the people so they watched him and they sent spies. So here they said they asked him in the people asked in this question. By the way the spies were the Herodian's that were the Herodian's. These are the guys that were loyal to Herod who was irritated by everybody.

He was either Mike King was a happy was even truly Jewish. He was hated by all these people. He was a brutal authority in these guys were loyal to him, but they also hated Jesus.

So these guys were trained diplomats of deception and they led the way and asked his question here Robbie how they can open the door. Here are crisis come in. He's disrupted their whole money system. He's turned the tables over the last thousands and thousands of dollars in their currency because what Jesus did. He said my God's house, my house house of prayer you made it a den of thieves of brigands and so Christ disrupted that and then each challenge that means tell he just told his parable last time we talked about of the evil tenants likening the religious leaders to those who would squandered and been poor stewards and were murderers of the province and would be murderers of Jesus later this week.

Member.

It's holy week, so here now the Herodian's accommodation. These guys in to attack Jesus and look at how they approach them. So what's the difference between praise and flattery yesterday. Can they come right out. Look at how brilliant this is for on their part that they asked him, saying, teacher, we know that you'd say and teach rightly in the you do not show. First, personal favoritism, well that's actually true of Christ. But you teach the way of God in truth, so those are three things were they, Christ is a you teach rightly you know show personal favoritism and you teach the way of God in truth by way those are the three things I want to be sent to me know I am a part of the Truth Network that we want petty set of us meeting you think of better flattery. So there there setting them up.

David Jeremiah says this about flattery, says Larry something, say something you'd say to someone's face. You'd never say behind her back, which is the opposite of gossip, something you'd say behind was back to you'd never say to their face. So bases Herodian's were buttering him up right so here's that here's the little set up.

Here's the jab, right and then here comes a right hook. So then the big question that they try to foresee is into and asked this question here Robbie which kisses into the text. What kind of no-win situation where they trying to force Jesus into yet so they are here. They have their Herodian's and they have, you know, the image of the leader is on this coinage and this is kind of a deal in the very it's a very simple question question that was weighed and measured long before it was when they were gossiping about how much they hated Jesus will destroy him before they openly said the flattery to his face, that's his question, is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not.

Very simple question. If Jesus says yes pay taxes. Caesar will that he is the way they put this is splitting a stamp on idol worship, idolatry, the government is saying we thought that got we were in our number one homage was to got here the roadies who could care less about really about honoring God first right there there bound to Caesar, but there asking this question.

If he says no but they're in a rush back to Herod in order to have them crucified on veto bag good Monday or Tuesday or whatever day this is before Good Friday begets the right so so what a question a no-win situation backing them into a corner, or so they thought they were backing him in a court corner and when it came to his trial.

By the way, I later on will find Luke 23 verse two.

This is exactly what the accused him of the accused him of of failing to honor the current monetary the current tax system and so they think that they've gotten trapped but look at his beautiful beautiful reply here and what Jesus said, but he perceive their craftiness he saw their heart and said to them, why do you test me.

Same thing. He confronted Lucifer, Satan on in Luke four earlier in this book he says you shall not put the Lord your God to the test member states and throw yourself off this mountain right even quoting Scripture about angels and all that and then he said verse 24. Show me a denarius and then he asked his question whose image and inscription doesn't have what a question now before we get into that Robbie asked his question here which is kind of an important question is were talking to people be relisting as this is gonna come up in the borne out in this answer Jesus swept the believers biblical relationship to government. Is it ever okay to disobey ones okay disobey government gives an order and of government.

There have been many Christians killed because they wouldn't deny their faith. Civil disobedience, you know, so there's a there's a real line here and organist see how Jesus does not in fact crosses line, but he's rather says show me a denarius whose image and inscription to have. So here, Jesus says, like we started the program here show me the money somehow these guys who were talking about this currency who were trying to feign humility. They had money right there right for Grable to come up with the cash the currency and the denarius basically is a Roman currency in a Roman soldiers ones one day's wage. The image on that currency would've been the image of Tiberius Caesar would be on both sides. The coin this was deeply offensive to Jews because they did not worship Caesar, and by using that coin they had to hold her nose to pay the Roman tax. Sometimes they had to use the Roman coinage in excess 2420 verse four says thou shalt have no graven images before you. So the Romans treated that coin as a an act of worship to their deity. Jesus says show me a coin whose images on it.

Wow so here they see the Emperor's image and reflection of his reign, his authority, his dominion, Jesus gives them the greatest question. Maybe some say that he ever asked and he said whose image on it and then he said they answered him seizures and he said to them, render therefore to Caesar's to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's.

Robbie asked this question here in this really opens it up. So why is Jesus answer so profound why so profound. This was a mic drop moment for Christ is as render to Caesar what is Caesar's render to God's was got.

He couldn't of given better answer would the word render mean submit differ. It means pay means giving means comply and the things that are Caesar's isn't just the your favorite day of the year.

April 15 right but my sister's birthday.

Actually, that date but it's any authority under the God-given biblical realm of that I'm under its lifetime. A Christian card. I talked about speed limit. We don't like to render that. When do you all a lot of things over the whole panoply of of items and things that we are to be submissive to our government regards put that government is a God-given governing spot so those are things under seizures and what about when civil authority. Robbie goes against divine prerogative, divine authority when absent the example and ask the radio. Very good. Yeah, we got the passes are where date they said a week and were in a said note you is working to flog you give your warning is a warning ticket in a little beating here but don't go pre-just using more what Peter say he said of God to do what God tells me to get it we will, thanks for the warning board to keep preaching Christ and then she says, but render to God the things are God. This is what J. Vernon McGee basically said in a paraphrase of the believers to submit to God ordained authority of the government, but do we remember where Caesar gets all his resources from the bricks the wood the stone for the buildings, the rows and the bridges the metal for the coins.

Ultimately, all of it comes from God. So Jesus really is saying render. Caesar was either very guy that was got God's overseas regards over everyone and by submitting to Caesar were really our strength to God. In fact would be nice of our government officials remembered where their authority came from unaccountable Supreme Court there accountable to God in the Constitution says that there's a greater power over all them know this is a common law argument but but this is true.

Going way back here so Robbie get's out here me what is what is what is his final testimony times was the last time I marveled at the words of Jesus. What areas of my life have not been fully surrendered to God and how does my life ring glory to the image of God engraved upon me, and that's often look at verse 26, but they could not catch him in his words, in the presence of the people and they marveled at his answer the Sound, they marveled at Jesus answer and was brewing a level driving Robbie Zechariah says about this. He says if they were smart they would asked a follow-up question. They would ask follow-up question of, well, whose image do we do we you know whose image do we follow in Jesus would've said God's put his image on you see he's marked his image on us in that brilliant and so how is the image of God how mine image bearer of Christ. How do people see the image of God in me and marvel at it.

Robbie is an image bearer of Christ. How does that bring marvel all wonder if he was life like this guys different somehow this guy that I was Superman people marvel now that's is no NHL marvel comics will usually mark the should should see a moral in how we struggle and we wrestle, how we do with with crisis and anxiety Caesar something different about that person and the image of God is on them is a great thing that God is made us image or God's images dampen every human being with those who are his have the very blood of Jesus and the seal of the holy spirit on them. Luke 2019 through 26. We got a go. This is experience truthful minister Graham twitter, Facebook, Stu Epperson, as we bring the word every week on their to people and encourage people to walk with God.
