David Displays Grace

From what some people might regard as a very obscure passage of Scripture. We have an outstanding illustration of grace. King David, a man after God's own heart displays grace abundant grace, he displays the grace of God to a very surprising person. That's the nature of grace is it is undeserving. David is going to display grace to the grandson of the man who for years trying to kill him.

So if you have your Bibles turn with me to second Samuel chapter 9 is page 268 in the pew Bible and I'm going to read into this 13 versus those beautiful story in the life of David King David, Israel's greatest king second Samuel nine verse one. And David said, is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake that there was a servant of the house of Saul's name was Eva and they called him to David and the king said to him are using the and he said I am your servants at the king said, is there not still someone of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him.

The percent of the king. There is still a son of Jonathan. All of us have personal sin and failure in the lives we don't all commit the same sins. But we all sin. Jonathan had enjoyed a beautiful friendship. It was Jonathan who encouraged David and help David in many ways, even although many people lesser manner than Jonathan would've resented David because after all, he might've said my father is getting a Monday with my father is dies I will be king.

But instead of that, he graciously helps David because he knows David is the Lord's anointed. You may recall back in first Samuel 20 David's and Jonathan entered into a beautiful covenant that David would not quote cut off your steadfast love from my house.

Whatever.

And so David and Jonathan make this covenant and Jonathan is saying to David David when you become came. I want you to promise on you to covenant with me that you will not cutoff the steadfast love from my house and David a man after God's own heart keeps his promise. Now many years later, many years after the covenant is made and Jonathan and Saul is dead on the terrible years of the persecuted by an angry and bitter and even hateful man like Saul, David know is at the pinnacle of his career he's established only king of Judah, but king of Israel is left have grown in the solids and he is taken the city of Jerusalem and Zion captive and then he is the mighty powerful King David. He's defeated the Philistines and he secured in his position as King, but he does a wonderful thing he remembers his love for Jonathan and he remembers the covenant he made verse one.

The second Samuel nine and David said this is still anyone left of the house of David, the I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake remembers the covenant he made with Jonathan David is a man of grace. He's a man of kindness and he wants to show kindness to anyone that's laughed of the house of Saul, for the sake of Jonathan sometimes people who are very successful people who do well in life sometimes forget the background I've known men who become so successful. We almost feel ashamed of the parents who perhaps with poor or brought up very humbly. It's tragic is tragic is noted when the Lord blesses someone and people forget where they came from and the forget the loan from old friends and their own family. David is not like that he understands that Saul had been David's deadly enemies seeking to kill David hunting him down like an animal. But God and he knew it was God. God had protected David and not David, not Saul and I were the descendents of David are going to be on the throne forever.

The Davidic covenant that we called a look at this in a few weeks ahead is given a second Samuel seven David knows that that his descendents are not going to reign forever and another descendents of salt. He understands that what he wants to show kindness.

He wants to show grace to someone from the house of Saul, and so what happens do this. And again, Paul says, and when the goodness and lovingkindness of God is grace. When the lovingkindness of God our Savior. He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit is the drama of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the God in his great love that God in his magnificent binding grace.

Seeing us in a worse place than loading bar seeing us in our sinfulness and the rebellion has reached down to us and calls rebellion is broken. Sinful people like you and me to come to Christ for salvation for transformation and Saul be accepted by God himself and receive eternal life. Verse 11 the end of verse 11 soma figure sheriff eat at David's table like one of the kings sons verse 13 soma Fellowship lived in Jerusalem, for he ate all was at the king's table values lame in both his feet and a beautiful God surprises us with his amazing grace. It's indescribable isn't it that God should love people like us who have turned her back on him who rebel against what amazing grace that were singing about God should leech down and forgive us of all of your sins.

It's amazing grace. I trust all of us understand that it is by grace that we are saved through faith and this is not around doing. It's a gift of God. We have no entirely through grace entirely 100% of grace were no a child of a new family because God in his grace as a result of sin and the Romans eight if you remember that far back that God doesn't just forgive us something even more surprising. He adopts us into his own family. We would've said that David was an extraordinary man. If you'd send permission for Bishop instead of going to get your all the lion of that your grandfather had no go back in and live there and I really don't want to see you again because in fact you look a little bit like Saul and I did like the look at him.

All of the father has he gives to us were blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. This is the amazing surprise of grace that God doesn't just save us.

He doesn't just forgive us. He doesn't just give us eternal life, he adopts us into his family and so we are is precious to him as his own son. Blessing us with every spiritual blessing in Christ you been surprised by God's amazing grace of your receipt grace. You saved, you understand that you for the terrible fall and is only God and his grace we can save you, transform you and adopt you into his eternal family psychologist. How is it one of our greatest battles.

A human being is her insecurity. This gives us tremendous security that I'm a child of the King that I'm part of God's family and God's love for me will never never land is guaranteed by God himself and his son, my Savior, particles, family night we receive Christ as your Savior will you do know that God loves you, but Christ came into this world to die for your sins. He rose again. And if you call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Of course with all unworthy, but God's amazing grace saves us, transforms us as we thought this morning puts the pieces back together and he welcomes us to the Lord's table, to the king's table to table of grace.
