Rich recounts his love of baseball’s All-Star Game but says why there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that he’ll schlep out to Chavez Ravine for the mid-summer classic.

Sydni and Taelor Scott, Stuart Scott’s daughters, join Rich in-studio on what would have been their father’s 57th birthday to discuss how they’re memories of him are shaped in part by the wonderful stories his friends and colleagues have shared with them, what the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund is doing along with the V Foundation to help find a cure, and how the late SportsCenter anchor’s legacy transcends the broadcasting industry.

They're about to join us go down memory lane. It would've been Stu's 57th birthday today and it's SP's week as well so special stuff. Don't go anywhere it'll be it'll be terrific and I haven't seen these young ladies in quite some time. If you asked that version if yes, about that version of me grown up in Staten Island, New York.

Hey All-Star game in your neighborhood in your town. Do you want to go.

Would you go all the way absolutely on are you kidding me.

I grabbed as I grabbed 19,000 of those ballots at Yankee Stadium and I punched holes member that normally you grab you unstuck in place. Thurman Munson's tab every time an elder.

All yeah I stuff the ballot box as a kid Yankee Stadium that you will take down the line.

I went Chambliss Randolph nettles Panella hoping Rivers got a little white man that were white on the Yankees all yeah Munson absolutely I was right and then fried chicken Stanley if I could demonstrate I was absolutely going on All-Star game if it was in my town now know I live in Los Angeles, California Amanda 50, man of 54), 54-year-old is remote to 67 blanket on me in the air-conditioned no bedroom or the living room.

You are a thousand percent.

Everyone I moved out here manners Lakers Clippers USC UCLA Angel, the Dodgers and the king so all can see I'm going.

I've been the one you I go once a year to Angel Stadium never go to games on our possible traffic. Are you kidding me. You state that make you rethink every priority in your life every priority now. It's a beautiful state when you get in that one surveyor one is that I got when you and you know that.

Not yet, somehow, would not show the history and I are fine with hacker sure and all at business yesterday, Kate seems Stadium seems Stadium memories Stadium where I punched all those tabs for you know from my favorite Yankees that some of its parts will be turned into ballfield dryness, parking lot, running late so this is still a spot man worthy. They moved out from Brooklyn where Kershaw Stoner Robert tonight is on Colfax to rub. This is pretty beautiful once you want to get there and I remember growing up in Staten Island and watching Kirk Gibson hit that homerun in game one World Series against Dennis Eckersley and the NBC cameras would this widen out as the ball leaves the yard and you see the taillights of the cars leaving.

I thought to myself, what we cast sports fans live in Los Angeles, California. I do like type plan World Series game that is game walking on all of these people what's not. Now I am one of remember 94 All-Star game being in Pittsburgh.

Look forward to the game all the stuff that went on around town you know and that exhibit you throw a ball on this bottle man I am and I had zero interest in doing any of that for this All-Star game and just where do you get older it just doesn't matter to you as much years ago Sunday night baseball Yankees Dodgers okay interlinking my nephew Lee Matthew, I neatly love my brothers, my brothers, my brothers, masculine show. Susie and I taken to Dr. stating to go to game. I forgot all these half of this carnage and he wanted to stay for the whole game and you can look up Eric Gonyea. Oh, close it out again error Alex Rodriguez and I had no idea at the time we sis soon. Is this a better picture matchup and you know if that's a word I think it is and and and Susan. I look at each other.

I honestly think it's an odd I love him and he was an intern on this program I will do anything for any but I stuck around like to stick around and that is absolutely to this day the most put myself out for that kid ever so these are facts certain do not even own skates he spent in All-Star game is so special on color cover and be there for him and you get goosebumps about him and they are awesome they are awesome and I you know I hope tonight ends in a talk because it would be the home run Derby to win the All-Star game which, thank God no longer has home-field advantage of the World Series online. Arno in terms of things that baseball should never of done okay might be number one in the entry of the sport. The list is long and distinguished so it would be great it would be incredible to see again and in the time and there's all homerun derby to win the All-Star game. I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what the minute that happened I'd say I'm here because we could sneak out here will stick around watching the home run Derby on the savanna radio out. I know I might be coming across as a little jaded. I don't think I am just spent effects is only I know how to do it right here it goes that way is just like that for every rare like like that you become like that we would never land never seem everybody. Sebastian Maniscalco was hearing me start and I was wife saunters out of a game's not fast enough pace a little traffic but office. It is true. If you don't walk fast enough out of a sporting event in Los Angeles, California it every second turns into a minute and every minute turns into L fence and then your sit in your car for an hour listening and ready for next now to the parking got that off my chest feel much better today would have been the 57th birthday, Bob, Sidney and Taylor, Scott's daddy Stuart Scott's daughters. I have not seen them in forever and a day when I hang out with them and have scoops for Stu when we come back. Does your antiperspirant keep you dry all day. Dove men plus gear dry spray goes on instantly drive for cleaner fuel and offers 48 hours sweat and order protection repeat that 48 hours of sweat. In order protection.

Use it and don't even think about it. Also dove men dry spray contains doves unique one quarter moisturizing cream.

It helps protect your skin trite dove men plus gear dry spray goes on dry cleaning fee all day, which I wasn't sure life is amazing.

I am of freaking out right now. Mother live because I haven't seen my next guests in decades and I could not be more thrilled to be able to welcome them in as a guest here in Los Angeles, California.

We all know about the home run Derby and the All-Star game but it's also SB's week here in Los Angeles, California and the Jimmy V award for perseverance can go to Dick's vitality was awarded that was one by my guy Stuart Scott before his passing and joining us today on what would have been there father's 57th birthday are none other than his two wonderful daughters, Taylor and Sidney Scott here on the rich to show how you think is still good to see you guys and great were so blessed to be here thank you yes get to the van and has been a very long time. Everything to spend, not 19 years since the ESPN handed me a cardboard box and and I I I think that might, I might've seen you maybe just shortly before that it's on unbelievable Christianity, but my Girl Scout cookies that really different and so thank you and have become not yet I not had you not really cared about the Girl Scouts Columbia grads got here on this program right now.

So what to just jump into it what what do you think of when you think of your death.

Let's start with that about that one example I think that with him because he's not here to be an active example that I do love that I get to hear stories about him from people all the time and those give me perspective. Now that I'm older that I didn't have as a child and so it's really there are things that his friends and his family members bring to us that are some that would have gotten you know when I did get to know him and now that I'm in a older age he was when he was when he started in the field. I feel a lot of encouragement from the people who can give me the messages that you have given me.

You should yeah I think so. It's so interesting to me because there's so many things that have experience in life you just graduated college and I can sort of hear his voice in the back of my head with with the kind of thing that he would've said something fantastic And something terrible happens and I conservative imagine like how he would've responded and I think for him to have left such a vivacious personality that we talked sometimes like something happens, we seasoning on Twitter you whenever like you know dad would've been you know you have something to say about this and so it's really with everything the Taylor added with people sharing stories and continuing to like learn about who he was. The person even easier since you been gone. It's just so special why think of him when big time sporting events happen anytime the NBA finals hit.

I think of him board I think of him with the final for Carolina plan Duke all my God, we yeah he would've lost his mom yesterday but here's the thing. It was a very very good thing.

We are all watching the other because he had his superstitions where growing up. When my mom and my dad like watch is working together right especially is Caroline Meno. Only Carolina aspects that is Carolina my mom went to the bathroom got up and left. Carolyn set it when you like you can come back. I'm sorry you can't you can't come back so I don't even know what you need. The biggest Carolina Duke game ever. There will never will never be a big one.

Unless somehow, someway you know John Schreier right the new coach of Duke Hayes for 50 years and in the Laskey.

Somehow they play in the Laskey was once in life and I honestly thought I think of him whenever like see stories occur. Like I wonder what Stuart would say about you know what your dad would say about what's going what's happened with Colin Like I would. I think about him all the time.

I meet Apsley all the time I got tons of stores on the way we love to hear you mean you get in the neat thing was again you know III met you obviously you know I stupid say your younger sister put the photograph up. I have been serving on my Jimmy V this is that the Jimmy V golf tournament years ago. If I guess.

And there you are. Taylor and I mean I'm staying right there and I no longer stuck, don't know I don't recall too many details of this but I just remember how much he loves you guys to.

I just know and and and now I'm a target debunker on our girl dad and I know but here's the thing about your dad that I always remember to ease I think about his love of life, his love of being himself, and I'm not saying that I'm not saying that it is as if he had an eagle me.

We all do but just keep loved being who he was and letting everyone know who he was and living his life as that. Certainly, Army air and I just remember his pridefulness, his competitive nature.

I remember all of that and then of course I just you know he is his love of you guys. I just remember that I think about that every time I look at my daughter to this effect. Yeah, sharing him unburden me know know know it, you know, and is the greatest gift I think is the pride in being yourself such that you allow the others around you to be like hey, it's okay. But to also be yourself here I am doing it.

It's okay who you are. Even if you're just trying there's acceptance here for that and I think that is the greatest gift that can be within you only is especially your father who brings back to the table.

Doug Taylor and Sidney Scott.

Here, the daughters of Stuart Scott on again. What would've been his 57th birthday and accessories we care in Los Angeles California so I'll just work and you what what story, if you are the first Taylor used to be how we want what story about your dad that you have heard that you'd never known before, that suddenly become your favorite from somebody you got something on that you've run into somebody somebody's brother was a fan or somebody that he covered or anything like that like that so I am definitely a couple of funny ones that I have learned over the past couple of years and some of them have been like friends, family members about his college days at their like we could not share this with you before you yourself are the call and they said the really funny ones that I think honestly what have been the most specialness interesting with me. If I cannot tell you how many people have come up to me and said you know I met your dad at an airport in line at a fast food place, wherever it may be in their like oh you know they think either Littlefield and I watched you growing up I so inspired by you you I want to go into broadcast and I want to go into sports journalism at all of these different things and talk about how he took whatever couple of minutes out of his day to the doctor that an incident to share about his experience into and to give whatever advice he might have had, and I think you know it's something that you know it's like that's kind that's nice, but the overwhelming number like just the fact that he was out in public and just like minding his own business and just like so enthusiastic and ready and willing to share. Like his experiences in his joy and his like all of those different things. A lot of energy and a lot of energy and it's really really special to know that you know this isn't just something that he was reserved for either the camera or for his family like this is who he was €24,000 always always always always yelling at somebody. People think that, did you see somebody successful with a personality on television smacked my God know the Stuart Scott that everybody saw on television is exactly the guy that you would meet anywhere. I would totally wholeheartedly endorse that message. What about you Taylor got any good story, share I like hearing that his college days, and I also like hearing about.

I think was interesting for me is that a lot of his friends can't wear younger than me and so I called you uncle Rich there is Kenny everyone's my uncle I lower my friends because there was no other children around. I thought that it was it's really wonderful because I remember him. He spoke about you not thinking recently about SEP you know Scott Van Pelt. He was like I cannot wait until he is a father he's can be such a great father and like this nerdiness about loving being a dad and was humiliating to me because he would just show all of my most private moments on his phone recorded to all his friends just but I do now with a little distaste from that.

I love the excitement that he had about I get to do this thing and it is what I love and I came in I can't wait to see my male friends get to the place where they also know what this might, I got to stores okay here we go. I told him on the on the Chevron on them but I got the part of personal one, and I've got. I mean, they're both no off-camera but there's one about median and my my wife Susie who I met at ESPN and there's one out and about which one when her first young about out about not about to tell story Chris Stuart Scott. So it's the All-Star game in New York City and Beale's family was 99 I think it was right with the famous Wimmer Kobe Bryant swimming, loan off the block that was discussed in the last dance. The document okay that's New York City and Stewart know your dad and I are doing and 11 o'clock Eastern sports okay and it's for some reason we got stuck doing it on a Friday night which never really used to happen Friday night 11 o'clock Eastern sports center and there was an event that was going on in New York City that night at the old All-Star Café which was the restaurant that shacking in Wayne Gretzky own Ken Griffey Junior I think that all will big stake in and so we wanted to go with the problems that we had a we couldn't leave the set until midnight and will actually do it should be doing your dad's like so we got a car okay a car and we hopped in the car. The two of us on the Dr. Carmer driven in New York City and it took two hours to get the whole it's two in the morning and we pull into we pulled into Times Square and everybody's leaving the party, the party is over.

We get all the way down the party your dad tells the driver to stop in the middle of Broadway in the middle of Times Square and among what you doing, ask the cop where everyone's going next. I'm like why would the cut looks, because why would mean we can't stop the car in the middle of Times Square. He goes you know basically gave me a look alike watch me so he gets out and the cop knows exactly what you could just read the body line, hearing what he saying yeah you can see in the comps like giving them directions and so your dad comes back and he says to me, Carl and I were going next, where we go next is just you give me this look like it when you shut up and I like the nervous Jewish kid from Staten Island and I think you look like a shot. So tell this to her all-time punchline. Okay so were now walking down Times Square and now walking to the west side of Manhattan in the spot. I've never been in my entire life and I'll be very honest, as were walking further and further west. I am I I am the only white guy on the street and your job, your dad is walking down the street and everybody stop us every two minutes and suddenly there's now dozens of people following after Friday's dozens of people following this gives the right and self-peace keep walking and one last guy stops and he says to your dad okay like I will get you telling your your your your your dad's in your me and so he says I can't Stuart Scott looks at me and why he said where the white got like my brain. I was the one God and to say that your dad couldn't of love that moment. I'm sure you are. So here's the personal so I met my wife, Susie at ESPN together and how God would not 19 so, but we met a 96 when I first arrived in. It took a while for sieges (if you took a while for Susie and I to start becoming an item just we were just just friends for a while. I wanted to be more than just friends for a while and your dad knew that and he loved my wife, Susie. Susie Schuster recalled S squared C would constantly go to Esq., looks like no like he would place towards the middle all the time. Okay. And you know see when I was a little bit down on it just like just keep going.

You know like it everything you talked about your dad, like wanting people have families yet argued that you should be a good add more users like you don't give a and so we obviously became an item and then we got married and there's an incredible photograph from our wedding day. Okay where your dad looks at me and ease looks at my wedding ring on my hand and he smiling and the look said two things. One was essentially, you know I told you so.

Okay other one was we did it like you could see gets his look on his. We did you think that going to try to get the most like he would hear the story of how he and my mom that and he would always talk about the women introduce them and that was over and over and over again. So now, knowing how important that story was to hand. I know that he and his head was like that was why I was the instrumental role he like we together literally. I know we didn't know that's the way you proud, you know on them and the fact that we had so many incredible moments together on TV you know meshing are two different upbringings and are two different pop-culture penal landscapes is one you know team in unit you know you call me you know, no fence can Mike and Steve but anyway Taylor and Sidney Scott here on the rich residential okay so let's talk about the future what's going on with your dad and the foundation that has been born out of his message and his remarkable speech that will live forever, you know, for the Jimmy V award for perseverance. What's what's the latest and how can people get involved are so grateful for the V foundation, not only because nothing that we grew up knowing that my father is like this is the amount of time. I connected it because it is important. It's important for people's lives before it personally affected us on any level, but the fact that they are such somewhat at the forefront of this research, but also have taken the time to realize that there are health disparities in the care industry and also in science that's been done and by ameliorating those differences really everyone benefits from that it's the future for everyone.

I have such gratitude and such admiration for that and so that's kind of whatever we can do to help proliferate message and also spread awareness about you know we love our didactic people out there that we want to see families together, for as long as possible because that's what important so here's what we have going on scoops for steel when I started this I mean it was honestly just kind of came about organically and like I said we we like asking was the place to start another check to see at night and now national ice cream days, two days before his birthday worked out so well and wrote it was just something where it was the first after he passed and we were trying to find something to to really celebrate his memory but also to be able to feel that for ourselves and chat with other people and other people exactly and so gives her stew was born. It's essentially an awareness raising campaign where everything to go out for ice cream shop. Get your ice cream and I went post on social media national ice cream party little virtual ice cream party and I'm thinking it's a special Taylor has a really great story about a time that we went to the ice cream stop and are now in our where we were growing up, and we basically he went in and he is a couple times he did it drive through sometimes but this particular day he basically he went in and he we pay for ice cream that you pay for the people behind us and before he just said no to something any time to hammer home the idea of always exactly exactly. And so the next time he went into the ice cream shop. They basically told us they were like you guys you know like last time you were here that kept going on all day like all day long. Everyone in front pay for the people behind them. You know they had theirs pay for the continued images.

I mean it was it was really in it was really funny was in range to think that something so little and so you know yeah exactly exactly. And so you know that's really beautiful active care I think is well to know that like these are utter strangers behind you have no idea who they are and you're willing to put down something in order to to pay it forward and so is become a huge part of why we do this because it is about paying it forward in enjoying ice cream. Obviously, Andre parenting them greatly (how can we continue to embody that and moving yeah exactly exactly. So that is. That's the hope that we have for everyone is go out some ice cream enjoyed time with your friends and family. If you get a chance definitely done it to the organization's risk of cancer and moral research fund, I would definitely like to say that that is me so much hope since my father's passing because I I am not a scientist and it does seem very bleak to look at the future of medicine and not have an answer on a really have been so encouraged by meeting different B scholars and scientists who had been grant recipients for my father's organization because they really do have any step-by-step process of even though this is difficult now is not as difficult as it was five years people went there five years ago that is paid forward. Like our father was very adamant about participating in clinical trials. He said you know, even if this doesn't save me. It's not just my life that's on blankets that there needs to be life going forward after me and that is something that I am deeply touched by that, when there seems like there is nothing to go forward for something and that's it. V foundation.org now people can find the portal start Scott cancer Memorial research fund yes and there's little link yet there's a link Rector means you want to throw it right.

I did want to thank Melanie Smith she's a doctor. She's a thief and scholar Jaz McDonald is a grant recipient as well and faster all the pot I had the wonderful opportunity to meet her and her family. Her husband is also a doctor and her whole family.

They very much a row encouraging people to know more about their medical profile. What will I face what did my family members face.

All of these things I hadn't had a concrete way of thinking.

You know, cancer is this destructive thing. It was can be destructive, and she work about how looking for genetic and nongenetic markers of tumors and proclivities.

Those are the things that I'm not the smart one doing it. But there is someone who is dedicating every day to making sure that in 10 years. People can be diagnosed with cancer and they can get more than seven years the foundation.org and make sure the deal steward Scott Memorial fund is is is well-funded. Please let's bring it in here. Okay. Also we go. We have scoops okay I got a chocolate you both is yes you gotta you stay there. I cream will start a fire that is announced it will be easier for me to big portions are perfect but don't ever have a good cream to conflict somebody to talk about but I hear you go like my favorite birthday party.

This is for you exactly what I needed some help so I don't know if it's coming on the budget.

It's great were honored chocolate sauce to costs.

I guess I should say this you know I feel like a been telling stories from I like to be talking with you instead of just telling you, but I'll do it anyway you know about perfect for me to tell you this one scooping out perfect once mushroom markers now can get some after. So on like you to into jet only once Russian is will say this, it's wild to me that your dad is remembered as a groundbreaker and iconoclast legend and I'm saying that because I had a front row seat to the way all started and I was quite a bit when your dad felt anything but like steward Scott felt anything but in real time as a groundbreaker and iconoclast. He was literally just being himself and this is the message I would give to anybody. Is that you just keep believing in yourself to keep believing in yourself and who you are and how you're going about it and let the chips fall and I think if we told him back in the day, you know, from 96 to 03 when I was there and I was doing sports and reject first telling him one day you were to be remembered as the guy who broke ground and absolutely reinvented the way a lot of people did our job and you will be remembered that forever and people there will be legions of people who would be wanting to be you and their imitators of you.

Essentially if I told him that you had two answers one of them will just get out here, the other to demonstrate like damn straight. That's home to be remembered and that is not why he was doing it. That's not the motivation for doing logs doing it. The motivations you just haven't found anyone to be successful against competitive but you be like damn straight I would be but also you be just like get out here because there were times we wasn't made to feel that way every honest and so that is one of the tales I like to tell about steward Scott, your dad is that you know so many people don't believe in what they are told no other told you not doing it right or you're not doing it a certain way and you just pay no attention. You know, and he would be's sure you notice any way to probably the latest persons that you so probably both is what I can relate to most need 20 I can't relate to my father's all rights that's you know you make something that I can relate to just doing what you do and loving it and failing at it over and over and constantly being getting criticism for it, and knowing that whether you succeed or fail or whether your you know your producer likes you best. Or like someone else pass it really is about. He had a conviction that there was the way there was a way that this could be told that would reach people and so he was willing to kind of sacrifice, whether or not you got some flack. I definitely that is the most inspiring thing is to be like find what is worth working for and keep your head down about it inside like that II love the idea that he could like to like absolutely that would be me.

People I am to have an impact, but it comes from conviction in knowing that his work was worthwhile because a lot of times you growing up he would even tell us to be like I worked so hard, I was driven.

I know I put in every ounce of myself into this lucky you know I like you. He also was in the right place at the right time, right on point to get this opportunity and so to work with me. You're saying all boils down right here on the front row seat for that Sydney got a front row seat for all that you know yeah I really, really did. He worked his ass off really good. But then there would be times where you consult about it and it was really odd to see because he was up about Apsley everything you know you say to him what I say to him. Sometimes I would tell him, in all honesty, just like what you care and then you try to give me that looks and yeah but you you you come up with a different set of you know tools resources or upbringing or you know basically your white guy like that was the sort of thing and and then he would just do like a deaf poetry jam leading anyway at deposit doing anyway and then then you would get like clustered I'll tell this one less time going through my greatest hits with his daughters Chris as he should know. One time we do. We know we go to commercial break and I just on a line from the latest Seinfeld episode going to break and so everyone on the floor laughs and were were off-camera returns because what was that Mike women was because what was on like that was the latest line from sofa like what was at and he goes brothers don't want and what he is telling me is like, you know, so I'm doing this lurk making this reference.

On the one who's come across is outside the norm.

But what you just did is kind outside the norm to and nobody bats an eyelash about what you're doing you that's basically what I took from our conversation, I love you both brought your cultural backgrounds to the table because it does create such a little like Seinfeld and I like that you increase both of those audience you that's so special and also I got your your work marriage.

It was a very beautiful place to like proliferate, and I feel like sports is culture and culture, sports, so no question because at the time and had no idea what your father know what you know what's up with an unsigned is a truth from one of like your niece or nephew's niece or nephew when Constance was was feeding them like the latest rap lyrics and stuff like that was on it.

We also dispute it was not you know we obviously love to pop music and I think now I'm able to listen to music that he had to literally drive with one hand on the volume.

I held all the songs of usable or not driving the car at the same time he is also a huge theater and so it's like you might come with like 70% or you might come with something from the musical wicked would not listen to that. So there is always that I really love you can find so many touchtone moments in terms of reporting just from living in the culture been doing with people you people be themselves. Yeah, know that you you get to reach you to resist people and everyone is watching you and we talked about a million times on these people who say I like and I watched your dad. You know in the morning I was eating I went to school so special to me that it's like they are so many people that felt as they felt seeing but you know like think they think he was talking to them and not that such a that's an incredible thing to me like it's really, really incredible, sublime.

Let's do this more often than 20 years. Yes, that's a very old man please. I mean, I'm so thrilled that were able to do this and again the foundation.org and make sure to the Stuart Scott Memorial fund and congrats on all your both successes and graduation and go crush it like your dad would would prefer and not expect exact adding or tailoring city shot at a DAE and SID SYD on twitter. I followed you should as well write your scripts for stew day right here on the on the recharge back here on the recharge and show rogue irons. Callaway didn't just create the longest times ever with the new robust.

He then made the longest irons ever perform at the highest level for every player just like the rogue ST driver.
