How do you feel how you say for how competitive the Recruiting Trl. in North Carolina has been just the last couple of months since Max arrived. Considering the type of talent you have in North Carolina in South Carolina and Tennessee and Georgia for the command and recruit our state hard Virginia Tech comes in some you're competing against law schools matches the way it is good talent stated seventh in the NFL for active players. Well, I mean it's comforting, but then you gotta perform well you get execute.

It probably is a little bit just after last year and all the injuries we had been consumed with developing That all the pieces in place and everything looks nice and last year I think we had 13 or 15 season-ending injuries and our depth got tested and you we want to be in a position that if we have injuries that we don't fall off a cliff does not make this team even more stronger knowing that a lot of those guys what to step in. Now have game reps in that with the experience. It is no, but we still graduated some pretty good football players in the know Alex Bachmann became really good receiver for us regular great works lasted Matt Colburn became a good running back. By the way you graduated three really good offense of lineman Phil Haynes is a draft pick. Riley Anderson is with the dolphins and Patrick poster page that very quietly became an excellent player then you go on defense news Kim Glenn and Chuck Way, Zeke, Rodney and Willie are Barry and Chris Calhoun.

Those are good players so we lost some good players now.

The benefit last year with all those injuries is whether it be known this year Greer or Ryan spend or you assume on tomorrow that we had some guys play a lot more than maybe we anticipated that you bring that experience back plus the guys he got hurt are coming back yourself a chance to have some depth with the experience that we really never have talking the way to coach Dave Clawson at ACC kickoff and I want to spend some time on the schedule. I remember talking to David talk with having a Friday night game and he was almost emotional.

Talking about how much he believes Friday night should be about high school and obviously coaches getting a chance to play on Friday night rock watch kids on Friday night. How much that means to him opening the season with three straight Friday night games.

Does that bother you at all what it's it's our new reality. I mean you look at your that the revenues that our schools are getting from these agreements with ESPN. Now we have any CC network in.

You can't have it both ways. That know if you want the exposure you want the revenue you know it's a new world, and I think as a purist, I absolutely agree with coach talk with. I like high school on Fridays College on Saturdays. The NFL on Sundays but were in agreement with me.

The entity has been helping drive revenues for us and exposure keeping us at the forefront of college athletics and this is no it's not a sacrifice it's not convenient but it is what it is. This is our new reality and we gotta learn to deal with it.

I don't like that on Friday nights. Would love to have high school players come to our games as part of record. I'm sure you're familiar with this piece of history you guys hosting the state and North Carolina in the same season has inhabited Wake Forest's 1921 minutes never happened and went sailing statuses.

This is a first. What kind of opportunity.

You think that presents the opportunity is no what a great opportunity for our fans that if you get back to the history of football in North Carolina and wake forest in the big four. That's one of the reasons we signed play game with North Carolina nonconference. We think part of our history tradition within the state is with the big four and we love it that all these teams play each other every year and conference realignment and division allow that. But whether just plain North Carolina nonconference. Maybe at some point to convince the state want to do that.

That gives us an opportunity to play the games at home that our fans want to say which leads me to what John Curry new bosses done this summer really aggressively Dave pushing wake football trying to get people to go to that opener against Utah state sellout. That game and you obviously have North Carolina, Duke and NC State coming in as the head coach of Wake Forest.

What does it mean to you to know John Curry is this aggressive in trying to get people to begin.

I mean I'm I'm happy it's going on. I think you know I always said that your job is to put a product on the field. It's worth watching worth supporting.

I think we've done that in our marketing efforts have really focused in on bringing exposure to what we've done so I think right now or are Utah State game is tracking very close to the sellout certainly hope having to Caroline and Nancy stated home will draw sellout for the stated home so were good football team got a very attractive home schedule in support. We've gotten last two years have you shared with me yesterday that during our six year season ticket salesman up 20% so were getting. There were not where we want to be, we can help a lot closer I got to ask you about this thing on our show. People make fun of me.

I'm a fan of the back rent Tyler Cameron used to play for you and wake players of told me that they been following the feet. Some of the older guys they remember playing for. Did you know that Tyler Cameron was on the bachelorette.

Yeah, my daughter told me, but I don't watch the show or follow that so I have no idea what's going on with it. Last thing tell me about the new locker rooms and facilities you got to meet the new credible and state-of-the-art know we have the Curry Fieldhouse that we gotta suck sports performance center just opened up the Curry nutrition center our facilities or weight room are now as good as anywhere in the country and wake is made a major commitment to be competitive in football and I'm grateful for it.

How this is sports have 622 Can Dr. with Josh Graham down and it's still weird for me to say that figuring how many Appalachian fans are in her audience went sailing green growing beyond and how often we were talking about your mountaineer something yet for you that it will head coach Scott. It has it has you know the last six or seven months if you like his years. He knows is hard working know is a lot of work needs to be done. There and you know why we got a great staff and a lot of hard work. People nearby for the same direction know and we all know the lifeline is recruiting and that we would really extremely hard and 20 class I you know and then at the same time working listing that we have right now that's coach my constraint staff what they been doing in the weight room and during the summer and running in all that because we all know that's how you build accountings considering how long you lived in Boone was in a moment kinda hit you where you set I'm not living in this place and well yeah I don't know if there was one particular moment, but I think you know what you decide that you're going to be somewhere else than the McKenna hits you like my meal 46 and so it 23 years I spent in North Carolina have a life that's half my life and in a love that place a love them and always will you know when we'll get back every year you and always come back there visiting the apartment community because of the love that I have for the onus where I got my start as a football player than as a coach and so you always have a special place in your heart for then the you know now you different challenge.

You know now or were planning the Atlantic Coast conference where a conference it to me is the best in the country that has tremendous talent tremendous coaches in the weeks will be a challenge is not to give you this leak and so is different set of challenges and know what works out afford.

I just know it's going to town to get built up and will see I don't have somebody who grew up in North Carolina right in the heart of the country right outside What what does this leak means you know I love it because I grew up.

I grew up playing Hillandale which is in Durham and every Saturday in the fall concession standing in Wallace way stated we had to sell 10 programs as players to get in free blog will going all good football games going up tactic to try and sell the well just tell Faisal hey why did you sell these men. I gotta get this gave a dollar something so it wouldn't have much problem getting the house a little bit but is not as love ACC football.

I just grew up loving what you know as a kid, so those things we all know as a kid. Whatever gets inside you know you always have a special place in your heart for you. So now to be a head coach like when I went to the ACC meetings and sporting a light man is sitting here with the schools that you know that Mark growing up now minimal part of this is pretty awesome was that Steve Spurrier get his OC back then is out as a coordinator is a long time ago and you know this is like in the right around the late 70s early 80s and again while you might feel old thinking that background probably was right around Chapel Hill and yet here he is back now you know it's it's crazy how come back come back around. How often have you returned the boom I was there just couple weeks ago.

You know so we can still have our house there and probably looking for that and you know is not a better place to go in the summertime it up and got a seat Scott Satterfield with your local Hecate I told you the story last night right when the news broke that you accept the Louisville head coaching job. Our phone lines 1015 deep wanted with people wanting to talk about it and I'm thinking oh my goodness. These are people upset Appalachian State thing, not at all. Every single one of them positive and talking about what you meant to that town admit to Appalachian State when you made the decision and you heard the feedback in the response. What did that mean well I think everyone knows help passionately. I love at state and all the blood sweat and tears uploaded that program. I wanted to be successful in anything in the country and the you know and then it's a sad day when you leave the meeting and it was sad day for me the link to have to leave and go in know. But I think the fans knew that in their admiration for me of what I meant to that program, I appreciate that every went back and met with the players that that morning before I left and told him that I was taken a job and they all stood up and clapped you that using that happily leave a place but I think they all knew what a great opportunity was for me and just on a personal level.

They were happy to take a football out of you know that this is more about life in the and a great opportunity as we all know a main know the opportunity go to coaching the highest level football chance to compete for national championships and we got a team right on our side of this leak just one of the ship so I'm all about trying to win championships nothingness an opportunity here we can compete for chips but no, again insisted this is a tough day but life goes on and try to continue to grow would be the best you can be that responsive price. You don't well, you know, you never know how people are going to react. I would have hoped that people would be that way you know there probably some fans out there that statement is that we live, but all I can say is that you know I get everything that I ever had, and that's all anybody can ever do and you know and so, but I'm so appreciative of my time there and all the fans in support we have grow that that university not only football but the University and what we get on the football field and I'm proud of that part of that last thing for you Scott want talk about something going on with your current program little.
