Drive with Josh Graham 5 Castle Dr. no game number one is in the book. My biggest take away the Panthers reported that, I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that the (as is to do with that lesson will Greer and Foreman last night course of one preseason game.

Eliza Holyfield fumbles bounces back scores of will. Greer throws an interception bounces back and throws that touchdown to Elijah Holyfield.

I think the biggest story going to the camp was always going to be quarterback and specifically cam Newton everything else it's icing on the tick cake. It's nice, it's good to hear Curtis Samuel is looking great the last few weeks.

It's good that the pass rush show just on last night with Brian Burns but really this is all about quarterback and keeping three quarterbacks has I think a lot more to do, securing yourself in the case of the cam Newton injury, then it does telling you anything about will Greer doesn't think you've got some guessing points there and certainly with with will Greer I just don't see that the Panthers after drafting someone like that and end while it shouldn't matter in some room somewhere. It does matter that he is a local product. There's a feel-good story about that they can resonate into ticket sales and marketing element of things. I don't see them cut him loose and when I think you can be a part of this for a while there to develop and they said they want to develop him but to me last night and that and in each of their opening drives. Kyle Allen looks like the guy got just a little bit more poise if you have to go a game or two or three. With quarterbacks you mentioned. It's often makes himself susceptible to injury. I want to have somebody as polished there, because if if it's about two or three game run. This could be the difference in a division championship or wildcard or making the playoffs and all I got to see somebody that's in there that's that's proven they can do the job. Now that's awfully presumptuous after one game that that maybe Kyle Allen had just a little bit more juice about them last night and will Greer did Greer is the ultimate destination God. But Kyle Allen said I think you go with right I don't think we should be comparing Kyle Allen to will Greer it's about Kyle Allen versus Taylor hi Nikki and I think there's no question that Alan is way ahead of Heine Quay, who had to deal with injuries during the off-season, the one he sustained in the Atlanta game. The final home game of the year last year.

Allen gets the win against New Orleans looked very good in that game.

Granted most of the New Orleans Saints were playing reserves in that ballgame but when it comes to will Greer your point, cut him loose. You don't cut the third of 1/3 round pick loose as a rookie. The question is, to quarterbacks, or three because if you have to.

That means you have a spot open to maybe present some depth in the secondary or on the defensive line.

Do you feel good enough about will Greer do you think there's a situation where will Greer plays well enough this preseason. Scott Turner and North turn to decide.

All right were good enough with will Greer as cam Newton sat insurance policy is security blanket that will feel comfortable just having to yeah and and I think that makes the case even more for three because I just don't even know even less say that Kyle Allen called on somewhere else and say he wasn't part of the equation.

I don't know that that there's been enough proven yet that you could feel good about that with a rookie QB coming in again behind a guy who shown a history of having those gaps in a season where he's been unavailable enough. Unfortunately what what fans don't see an and coaches do see are the differences in the film room and to practice it in a practice situation with Kyle Allen Taylor hi Nikki, what we all saw was that one of them did well in the field enroll last year and the other one did not. So that's where I think fans will say of Allen's guy because he won the game. Maybe the saints you know what great that's awesome. But what was it they got Taylor hi Nikki there in the first place. I think it hi Nikki is certainly the odd man out in the situation but but I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that that the Panthers, at least in some way thought so as well.

Otherwise, you don't draft a quarterback in round three I Allen's got a little bit more stability about what he does is not flashy is not to be a cam type from that perspective. I don't see him as a gambler I see him as a safety valve that if you need somebody to come in for three quarters or game, you can go with him until you get this other guy figured out next year this time. I think that that Kyle Collins got something to prove because you you made an investment. Greer is going to go long beyond the season or next one or the one after that. Probably look at it like out of their backing up cam Newton doesn't play last night.

It really is one of those things with the preseason. Let's get jazzed up, it's the start of the season you get to see your team for the first time all 22 starters off at the defense all black, not even one snap. They set out that's fine, but cam Newton everybody wants to see what's up with that shoulder the day after he had the Curtis Samuel completion 35, 40 yards down the field every body is already jumping to the conclusion that Camden's back. It might've been the most exciting play in the history of Panthers training camp in Wofford fans were just so excited to jump to that conclusion. Even as cam Newton himself was saying I'm not there yet. I'm still I'm not out of the woods yet they don't do the work I'm doing behind the scenes to get ready that play continues to get talked about over and over again but were not seeing them Pro 3540 yards. Every single practice. He's not out there every single practice. When would you like to see cam Newton on a regular schedule on a week, three main going into that game where where as we have seen in the in that in the in today's NFL we we understand now that you're not buying tickets to the preseason opener to see all your favorite guys because are not in place.

We stayed in there and in street clothes. Maybe you can talk to if you sit close enough to the sideline, but week three seems to be the game. That's the dress rehearsal game were those guys are to get three quarters of the of the action they're going to get multiple drives there to be able to to to give. Basically, the closest game look that they can give.

So if cam is ready to roll.

By that point at you, Ron Rivera said it sounds like that that there is a potential at least that that maybe cam gets at least the series in in the next game against the bills but but I think that your you want to see all systems go back by week three, I think also to that and as boring as it is from a fans perspective to hear. There is a lot to be said or what Caroline Katzman talked about the last couple weeks and trusting the process because you also don't want to just Russia guy back for a preseason game.

That doesn't mean anything if you're Panthers fan you think this teams got a chance to to be a playoff team and and certainly the project that way I'll take I'll take all the time with him on the sideline.

Now if that means that in November December he's got that the that the strength left in the arm and the health to be able to do what plaintiff and so bigoted. It's David Jackson in studio with us if you have any NFL thoughts based on what you saw last night.

336-777-1600 is the phone number is on Twitter at Boone chamber DJ. The drive is broadcast live in the Law offices of Timothy D. Wellborn studios learn about the way that Tim Wellborn can help you online@timwellborn.com. You'll know when you need us to think things to Daniel Jones had a chance to watch this drive lot before the Panthers went live at 8 o'clock five for five good zip on throws. The touchdown was located in a place where only his receiver could get it. I think the intense heat.

Daniel Jones is had put on him the pressure there in New York City after being picked sixth overall in the criticism that followed is an indictment on the NFL draft coverage everything that led up to the draft and what happened in following because the initial reaction from everybody. It seemed like the day after that draft that Friday was that Daniel Jones is going to be a bust. This isn't a great pick. This is Dave Gettleman making a massive mistake and a lot of that had to do with two things. One, get percent of people don't watch football or probably most of the people were watching the NFL draft, or want to do football 98% of the media not watching Duke football even if they know Daniel Jones might be in NFL draft prospect. That's one. That means every body is basing their opinions.

If you watch the kids play basing your opinions on two things stats in the mock drafts and sent and since Daniel Jones wasn't picked that high by anybody. He got selected everybody reacts in shock.

Watch Daniel Jones why they don't know Daniel Jones from Daniel Jeremiah no idea who Daniel Jones is why does why do Eagle fans get very excited when Carson went to spec number two, even though we went to North Dakota State and they certainly didn't want to stay but New York Giants fans are freaking out when Daniel Jones picked number six it's an indictment on the draft processing. I was sitting in a room DJ when Cleveland Farrell was was getting picked. I was with a bunch of NFL draft gurus with the air quotes and when Cleveland Farrell got because I was the guy said out loud, all great pick one. Robin looked at me like I had two heads you talk about Kuyper didn't have them at high Jeremiah didn't have a picked that high. I watched the closing he was a very good player would probably be a first trumpet open like them a lot here last night you saw a lot of the same people overreacted to Daniel Jones be a pick six saying it was awful pick immediately flip-flopping in think this guy is awesome now because he had 1 Touchdown Dr. in the preseason. I think having both those opinions both premature, both equally were ridiculous after saying this guys good to be a Hall of Famer now because of one driving the preseason but also judged him for being terrible after picking six and not watching will sure, but you gotta remember that the average person these days only has the selective memory that is about four swipes up on their twitter feed on the phone so they don't remember all the things they said about somebody bill four months ago, let alone four minutes ago I thought I thought he looked.

I thought he looked pretty sure I thought he looked like a guy was coached by David Cutler. I think he kinda comes from that same old, which should be something that that certainly bodes well for him in his pro career based on the lineage that he is having to deal with. I hate that the rain messed it up though because it looked like. Or at least it sounded like coming out of wood coming out of the other. The Giants, he would've had an opportunity to maybe get another drive, but it certainly certainly the the delivery the there read and react all of the intangibles are there. I think I think that that you sometimes there's too much information it. I think it was easier for us to remain rational when we didn't just scour the Internet for someone to agree with what we think and and I think that has had a toll on things like that. Things like evaluating prospects.

Your to sit and read about Daniel Jones until you find some of what it whether you like him or you don't like your to sit there and read until you find somebody that agrees with you in there that's what he said.

So I'm right because this one guy said it when when it used to be that we we had trusted evaluators that had actual legitimate credentials that did this kind of stuff and and you could process that in the ways that they would take some time and you might not be able to read the instant reaction about a guys drive four seconds after it's over.

Back in the days when newspapers had reported the next day you had to wait for your trusted local sports journalists to say hey you know what I saw these things the other day and you can formulate your opinion while you also get a chance to formulate your stuff were so reactionary. Yeah, it's ridiculous that anybody could good could sit there and say based on 1 Preseason Dr. in week one, that he's got a project to be should be the starter gotta be the guy was one drive but but also I think that we put a little bit too much talking to people who purport themselves as experts when they've they've never swept the sweat put on the pads play the game and they don't really have anything other than data analytics stood to sit around why were judging people when you can. I'm not even claiming to be one of those experts I just found the reaction to be totally unfair to Daniel Jones and it's funny the guy was most trusted for his analysis that you mentioned is Mel Kuyper heat. He defended the pit back then. He still defends it. The Giants picking number six Daniel Jones you can criticize the evaluation of him right if you don't think he's as good as Duane Haskins, that's fine. Here's the part that bothered me folks saying that because they had a picket number 17 that they should've waited to take Daniel Jones with that position.

The philosophy is right if you believe you have a franchise quarterback wait to see if in the next 12 pics one of the teams picking whether or not they disagree with your assessment know if you think you have the franchise quarterback X wait till 17 so that was another piece of it. That's maddening.

There's a lot of things I want to get to with David Jackson is spending time with us. Perhaps a little bit of Appalachian State football also seat you are you are a play-by-play man by trade. So you're someone who is a trained ear to know great play-by-play when you hear it show. While is the voice of the Winston-Salem – and every single week.

The audience sends an lines movie lines for him to integrate into his baseball broadcast Thursday nights here that's wonderful on the sports. That's what so here's what were going to do work during the hear those calls from Joe next.

On the drive. 928 a lot of answers on day now. Joe Wilde did in these calls and the second movie lines that he integrated into the broadcast last night on the sports Appalachian State working in a new head coach and Eli drink with you still live in Boone you covered Appalachian State for all of those years.

They have a quarterback that right now a lot of people are very excited about in the Sunbelt and Zach Thomas and the mountaineers even though it is a new head coach at the controls. It's another offense of minded guy since I have right now is they are expecting another big year and Appalachian State coach Satterfield did not leave the covered empty by any means. No, he did not end a and I think Eli drink which is done a good job of not just necessarily coming in and installing a philosophy that doesn't fit the personal that's there is not like inheriting a pro franchise ring just fire guys and hire more.

You've got to live out a recruiting calendar and and the talent that you've got now. Fortunately, in this particular takeover situation if you will.

You know that Ed job flip for positive reason because Appalachian has had a.

Assist sustained success. For decades now and save two years that it had you know of back to back losing seasons and more than 30 years, so it's it's a program it's got a certain respect level tradition and and and Eli drink which is going to become familiar with that as he brings in nuances that can help establish the philosophies that he's looking for that to add to the to the championship pedigree that's already there. I think that the knives were talking about quarterbacks who are smart just a moment ago with that with the Daniel Jones commentary. I think that's where Zach is is going to flourish. Zach Thomas was just coming in out state as is I was getting getting ready to leave and one of the things that that in talking with a number of people are still around. There he is a film rat. He is somebody that that understands that there are certain limitations that he hasn't certain strengths that he has any and he tries to play to his strengths. I think that Eli drink which will see that that while Appalachian is always been a run first type team that now you get a quarterback that that that can take some shots and now that the question is for upstate is no you graduated some receivers here of last couple years that have been headlining a kind of household names, can they get that talent pool up to speed with a quarterback that's that's ready to do what Eli drink which is done before. That's that's moved the football around through the air little bit more. It will be the most dynamic offense potentially in the state.

Quite honestly, just because of the tools of they've got an and the the philosophy the drink which is convert bring to the table putting us on the air in the control room. Desmond Johnson taking her calls at 336-777-1600 were on Twitter at sport sub triad running our social media today and doing putting out other kinds of fires to Aaron. Gabriel is hanging out as well get to some of these movie lines from Joe. While this is from the Winston-Salem – broadcast right here on the sports I would carried them once a week on Thursday nights. The audience sends us and via email and Twitter and Facebook movie lines that they would like Joe to finagle into his play-by-play. It's a way for this shows voice to infiltrate the Winston-Salem – broadcast, what's the first line you have for us pressure situation where here in the bottom of the first inning – get their first lead of the series in the first inning or responds well to situation, saying hello pressure to get out of the bottom of the first inning. That is the only Nicolas Cage line. We have doing what we were talking about Medicaid yesterday.

I pressure for breakfast. Have you ever seen the movie Conair yes okay with the bony back in the box is an excellent was a runner on first, nobody out situation. Then Andrew Vaughn lined it to the third baseman Blanco doubled off Cruz at first base. The 011 on a pallet to counter nothing into Cruz was out sick off first base after the pitch and the pelicans essentially put the money back in the box recording that double-play player is ingenious because all play-by-play guys have somebody that's in there and they can you say the word. Give me something to hold movie quote is ambitious like that. And Joe doesn't excellent job with that.

The last one. This might be my favorite one that we've done in the long time here fancier. Tonight all around the lower ball hanging out in their seats were heading onto the Clark and Addison Grill are some of the other great places here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.com 21 outside counted three and one what is going to chance burger from this facility is a tasty burger that is that is a great line so I I have one of these I have one of these. Also that that the written different Quentin Tarantino so well known quick to this one anyway was a big Lebowski line and and so II dropped in a pool. The folks in the league office was around and surrender penalty in the it it was like it is like I just wrote an era picked up the flag no penalty. There is only what you get for the folks in the league office. It was really hard to make sure that I delivered that line in the way that it can be delivered on the radio is a league game. Donnie yeah great Meadow. I love the concept of this your idea. This is something that we've been doing since I was back in Greenville I was in eastern North Carolina. There was a Florida Panthers radio broadcaster. I remember watching these clips back when I was like in high school first getting into broadcasting. Randy Muller was his name. I don't think it does.

The Florida Panthers anymore and he would just work it into his goal calls and this is a funny idea and the – seem to like it and so were going to keep doing it, so I used to work with Ryan manual whose general manager, the – or whatever his his new fancy title is now, but he was sales associate.

We both worked with our good friend Wally and the Winston-Salem warthogs back in 1999 when Ryan came to town, all right, but since we have you here, David Jackson, but since I know I know every single time somebody talks to you at length about Appalachian State football in your time with the team. They bring up September 2007 comes up on occasion.

Yeah, and the reason we want to talk about it if were talking about play-by-play calls. We need to address this right here 37 yard field goal. This is this is it right here it's already set will do an excellent call.

If you are not what you absolutely love it if you're broadcaster care about you really feel for David Jackson getting trampled over there a little bit.

Well, that's another thing that you know we we got beaten up pretty good on Mike and Mike that next Monday because of that and and you know I I thought at the time that I still contend this day you not situational right so so Steve Brown is my color analyst very dear friend of mine still to this day he he was a former player one the most decorated quarterbacks in Appalachian State history until Richie Williams and Armani Edwards and those guys came around and and Zach Thomas probably take all the records but but Brownie was a player. He was a coach. He was a volunteer. He was a fan and that is the same reaction that every app state fan anybody tied to the school had at the same exact moment, we were calling that game for ESPN. We were called in that game for CBS or Fox or whoever we were calling that game for Appalachian State and for a moment that we didn't really understand. At the exact time that it was happening but but very soon afterward began to realize that it was going to be a transformative moment for the University not just a program, not just a coach, not just a player but the entire University. The entire town of Boone amount still up there, is that the chamber director every time a visitor comes in references that that is yet another opportunity to say that one play, one day made life different and I'm sorry you lose it when that stuff happens. If you're genuine if we just mail that wouldn't hold and the ball was intercepted and Appalachian State when not cool why, why, because you know here I'm an alum of the school very proudly and that was a moment there was gonna change all and when it happened it was like oh my gosh this really paid off.

I think you also have to take into account the emotional roller coaster that the previous five minutes. That was Apis got to lead my cart runs 57 yard touchdown zigzagging through. I think he ran around every one of the 11 Defensive Players Like Red Cir. around him on his way to the end zone.

It was it was an amazing run and then the very next offense of play after the ensuing kickoff, Armani, Edwards, or interception should been over a meter should have been over app state holds field-goal opportunity for Michigan was stretched to where Appleton needed a touchdown take the lead block that with Brian quick blocked that one and then app got the ball went down kicked a field goal than block the other one but but I mean you're talking about here is a monumental opportunity. Remember Apple's house in them for a while should of been up three scores and have to and then all of a sudden it's given back in your life, man that was an opportunity that would've been so amazing and then you get the dagger the interception but then you get the dagger of hope and then hope becomes realize that it almost goes away again. I mean it was it was a I remember being so physically exhausted after that was over because it was just it was it was so emotionally heart-wrenching and rewarding all at the same time. So yeah, where were we hear that every August. It becomes upset the big 10 year anniversary.

Not long ago you it's been documented.

It's one of the fuse instances were a school will not live down a moment and that deposit Appalachian State is always good to be be associated with that and for that reason will always be associated with David and Goliath perseverance type conversation and it's going to be capped off by saying, just like when upstate beat Michigan that's great man.

Note no campus could ever pay enough money to get that kind of positive publicity and for us if we had it to do all over again. We would do the exact same way the map is fun. I mean my head to meet you because that because then Patrick Kane is thought that I was cool enough to come hang out at his camp down and were down there and Chris Edwards in the rest is history. Yeah, it was just the neatest thing listening to your broadcast when you with Appalachian State going down to the sideline. What you got that if it was well and he still works with the team he still on the basketball crew and it was a lot of fun. You know you you understand this when it when I say that that these jobs are no us as fans, we we get passionate we get excited better teams and we we email coaches at 230 in the morning our trick play ideas and all that kind of stuff because were fans were crazy right that's that's that's that's the definition of fan but but for you, your hobby as a fan is someone else's job, and in that job. As we heard Caroline on of the David Lynch of earlier painters got back for the morning yesterday from a preseason game and and many of them went straight to the office. That's what that grind is like we get back from trips and coaches will go straight to film and we get ready for the next week and do that for 15 years traveling about hundred and 30 days a year traveling three sports for a long time to it just got to be the time where were with a family that that I wanted to see more of it was time to do something else.

I enjoyed it thoroughly but but now the stuff that I get to do like this in an and other broadcast opportunities I have. It's a hobby not a lifestyle and I like it a lot.

Let me let me use this as an opportunity to point out though.

I think Dez said it was official. As of today that inked the paperwork to be carrying Appalachian State again this fall. Appalachian State football right here on the sports but as the triads home for Appalachian tanks in football it's good to have you know that Adam Whitten's been doing something. It's good to have you entered a thanks man appreciate that is David Jackson kind enough to be in studio with us up next criticizing your boss publicly courageous or foolish soon as the drive to live with Josh Graham, 620. All the best sports here in the tri-color number seven winning ticket to go see the Ted Nugent show letter is marketed bad part was the station that plays the best sports in the dryad bargain that we do we play the best board.

Dryad color number seven winning those tickets for next week. Congratulations to Mark.

Why do I sound like John Mullaney was a lot of controversy, the importance.there was a lot of controversy in Nashville last night. The big story John Mayer mixed up his settlers with questionable playcalling, namely, he decided to open a show a song from the battle studies record which has a large faction of the fan base asking questions and pointing figures fingers. I got it John, there had a press conference with one of his fellow bandmates and gave an assessment on his controversial performance is really hard in the first set with a heartbreak warfare, which I thought was really strong tonight and also does really well and then from there we told the story slow and steady and by the time he got slow dancing solo. I feel like we have against the ropes and see you.

It's a good point that he brings up when he got to dance again. It's in a burning room.

That's when the show really started to hit its crescendo. That's why you go straight to Wayton on the world the change after that and close things out with in the blood and dear mama, how's this for a encore gravity and new light.

Perfect way to close the show. If you John Mayer heartbreak warfare to open things up so that was a questionable album if I was him if I was good to do things the right way, you don't want to upset the fan base. You want to open the game the right way to start things out with something from continuing my think maybe something I don't know like I don't trust myself loving you. What you say – you know, just looking at the recap here.

I gotta say Josh that not sure why they waited so long to do. Your body is wonderful and they waited all week will set absolutely makes sense to me. Yes, it was the second song and set to I don't know why John Mayer did not. Fortunately he's good have an opportunity to bounce back later on tonight. He's good to be performing in Charlotte at spectrum center.

It's his opportunity to have a recovery bounce back effort, but when you look at the set list. It just left you wanting more.

When you look at the songs and where they're put there was just a lot more that I wanted from John Mayer that quite frankly I just didn't get will say that I was quite impressed with the turnaround right room waiting on the day in slow dancing in a burning room. The effort given by Mary His band was asked was where is freefalling freefalling the cover of Tom Petty or maybe even the Jimi Hendrix cover of of hey Joe or along the watchtower bears that out with when I think of John there.

I think about him rocking the guitar and doing some covers work. There wasn't enough guitar solo in my mind so I thought it was a questionable form of a questionable performance by John Mayer but he is a chance to bounce back later on tonight shifted things over to the Carolina Panthers they faced the Bears last night a couple of observations, random preseason game observations here. It's hard for me to get excited about NFL games when the players at skill positions are where wearing single digit numbers.

Do you feel this way when you know what games a preseason game when first snapped Aldrich Robinson is wearing number eight for the pampered, but you have a wide receiver wearing number eight number two batches hurts the appeal to it for me.

Not so much for me and we have different views on preseason football in general so I can see where you're coming from on that I was the one that watched all the backlinks so I don't know I'm you, last night I knew Nancy and looked equally camera anybody that's for sure.

didn't really play yesterday, so i sold them from the very beginning thinking okay i'm you see second string guys first quarter and a bunch of guys on pub and arrested again in about two weeks when you just accept it for what it is and go so those numbers don't really bother me that much, but for someone like you and ari has issues with preseason in general.

i could see it is bothering you the entire night. i'm looking at some breaking news that were getting out of the nfl. a lot of people were talking about antonio round antonio brown again raiders wide receiver antonio brown has told team officials that unless he gets to wear his old helmet, you will not play football again per league sources old home might be a situation where branding's of helmets change.

antonio brown believes this is more from shafter. the new helmet that the rules mandate. he wears protrudes out and interferes with his vision as he tries to catch the ball.

the raiders have been sending brown and other and other teammates approved helmets to be trying out at this time is not interested in wearing any of them. just another situation where antonio brown is being a little bit difficult.

tom brady had the changes helmet and he did so, and it worked out just fine. antonio brown doesn't seem to be in the same category from a leadership standpoint or an a diva or whatever the opposite of the diva is standpoint as well? on chemical antonio brown. this whole thing with extreme frostbite stuff is going to bomb his feet. you what's the recovery time for we all seen the picture this point on the bottom of his feet like i had two of where he had to have worn socks write something he had. they don't let you just has a trainer or someone who runs the cryotherapy chamber. they don't just let you walk in without socks to wear socks. here's the other reason i know is wearing socks. he had to have a sock somewhere else.

he did forget to wear that sock or else that headlines coming out to that how it works. you were sock over that you're not forgetting to wear a sock when you walk in to something that's 180 below zero. like likely red hot chili peppers that does not frostbite you that's that's that's something else goes, frostbite is the d don't know blake, this is that's right, this is starting to get reckless goes through doing is starting to get reckless when were starting to be doctors inspected things are whatever we do what ever you say next. i want to hip-hop airhorn as a so we know that this is still very reckless.

what were doing right now as far reckless despair. but right now i just set you up, though. you can say what ever you want now like you can jump to whatever conclusion you wish for you because you will now have you now have the freedom that the hip-hop airhorn gives you this is only a braille is permanently damaged his feet never play football again any season is helmet stuff is a copout and i appreciate that you said the thing that a lot of us are thinking about frostbite mirrors the same is not play again, horrible speaking of jersey numbers number 14 for the carolina panthers. has anyone ever warned that jersey number and been good 15 1414. can you tell me your number 14 for the carolina panthers is right now or has been for the last few years. last year it was mose frazier. that's a warrant last year he worked for a few years.

he never amounted to much at wide receiver.

i don't think he's on the team any longer. i doubt maybe change that number because he wasn't producing. maybe it had something to do with the numbers. could you tell me who it is now. i learned this last out last night, but return to jaden mickens, how come it's always the punt return or to wears number 14. it was a monte edwards it's the curse of vermont, the edwards that jersey number.

no one could ever wears it listener monte casey came in from a background being the quarterback. as you normally associate that number with being a quarterback right so i understood it with edwards, but scott hoffman on randoms that may or may not make riser anyone ever warned that number with the carolina panthers and been a good player opening so monte edwards mose frazier jaden mickens those of the guys were talking about, like when kimball walker chose to wear number eight with the boston celtics celtics fans ball oh good as ever wore that number antoine walker quite meet that bar neither did jeff greene or al jefferson or stefon maher, barry wearing number eight.

that's not a good sign. some people care a lot about jersey numbers.

some don't care at all.

i happen to care.

i pay attention to such things. if you could find me a complete list of players who were number 14. i would appreciate that.

i don't have a complete list but i did stumble across a article from the charlotte observer, the best player who think right size history all losses, number that aside, that's not a good number to pick look at your assigned 14 coaches are essentially telling you what they think of you. that's your buddy that's almost like getting cut like you should expect in the next few weeks. i'm about to get caught.

why wearing number 14.

my apologies. jaden mickens that you had to find out this way. if you deduct 10 from 14 to get for that's what joey sly was wearing last night kicking for the panthers. ron rivera made it clear that they work. grandpa know very hard. they didn't want to overload him so he didn't play last night. it's not a kicking competition paper fans like joey sly, college football fan, though, and i follow college in the acc very closely.

joey sly's not a good kicker joey sly was virginia tech fans get back to me on this. he had some big field goals at virginia tech, but there were some stretches. you had no idea what was going to happen with joey.

sly, but also it bothered bc and a kicker where number for the same numbers john casey show john casey's number be retired if your panthers fan when you look at numbers that should be retired.

never worn again by another path 89's. one was steve smith 90 julius pepper 17 we've already had devon sanchez come out where that number and i think there's another path of that's wearing 17 now punches is gone. bought i think number four there's a legit argument you can make that that number might be retired for the all-time leading scorer in panthers history i would make that argument a little bit. it just feels wrong and somebody else where that number is there anybody with me on this book. casey being non-case number retired. i deftly think will be in the next class and onto the hall.

the panthers hall of honor. whatever they're calling it is franchise later points what you said and played what 20 years so mean. he deserves it. i know there's still some angry folks out there about the super bowl xxxviii kickball grounds, but will bounce, but let's also not forget the fact that the defense let him go 50 yards a minute, what i am right. nobody knows nobody will blame the defense he kickball the got it at the 40 you let them go all the way inside your 30. so what is that about 10 you let them go. 40+ yards letting go 3035 yards.

i will know what general processes is that it had that not happened. you get a hold of the half of the field to try to stop operating, which is the maybe lingering lingering sense of it is john casey kosice is limiting time when the patient got 2929 yeah so when we were going to overtime so it didn't really cost you this game right all that effectual to say how people feel right about dark emotions like that referee cost them the game are still bad about that. they're still trying to get ron roger caddell on the record to say something.

i don't know what they're wanting caddell to say i really have no clue what they want caddell to say at this point, but they're just trying to get to caddell in court having to speak on the record that feels like a win for saints fans when their ultimate losers because of the way they handle things and also the fact that they blew that game you take the lead with the field-goal your defense allows for the team to mark all the way down the field to tie it on top of that you got the bullet overtime and you throw an interception saints fans. i don't want to hear is it possible that clemson football just got better. we discussed next. on the drive is 609 24 must communicate to the drive josh graham, only the headline on es one david hale yes clemson tigers defender not title now joins us on the show and he's also one of the best twitter handles has one of the best handles.

you'll find across the land on twitter at david hale joint that's where you can find him how well this week. how many times have you been catching footballs one-handed as you got some did some research and got some info on how to do so inclined and good camping. i got a better now. i don't know i got your left my mother feel about what physically how much differently. does trevor lawrence look, i know not right that's important for power comes from buildout a little bit more. i guess i wouldn't say you look like a completely different.

but the world trevor lauren came in one product physically.

certainly further out than you would most typical double would pay last year like what you similar to sean in terms of where he's at in the development of a quarterback with physically on the day he arrived, so i think that's kind of the beauty of having a quarterback like travel are not the arm strength in the making in all he came in pretty physically refined product from day one of the molly on you say that about just talking about the offense of side of the ball with clemson do you detect any weakness with what they have coming back what they are right now.

not really. certainly, yet you look at any feelings they will injury be a problem in even at that point theirs there that i don't know the other team. there, replacing the title for your starter left tackle in both boys up the problem but jack and carmen who was borderline five-star recruit coming out of ohio couple years ago that got them playing time last year and i think everyone pretty confident you can do just by not a real issue on offense anywhere a lot of teams when amari rogers goes down without the real problem, but they amari had been playing in his rehab and could be back at work the early part of the evening. they find two blue chipper the commandant frank locke and janet. both of those guys that you bring james look like there ready to be the next thing clemson anywhere on that often all you point to it all right like treat problem they're not graded, so i will run out. why deal when you look at the schedule where you go in terms of potential places they could get tripped up because you have a team that loses for starting defensive lineman, three of which that were drafted in the first round. texas a&m is kelly mond back in back to back.

week two and week three. you have kelly mond at texas a&m albeit it's a home game then you go to syracuse and even though they don't have a redundancy, but still high-octane pass game passing and that they try to run over there with dino babies is that the spot you with me in the two that obviously jumped out of the schedule and i'm not sure that there's another line at the end of the year, but not super concerned about probably require a little bit of growing pains to get what they wanted.

that is the problem when you likelier to cover games coming in week two and week three not give you a whole bunch of time for the got the defense of the ball could get the leg.

i don't think you're super worried about the starters. i think they feel like especially on the d line good across the board with one three problem and i think that's why you is a particularly intriguing matchup against them even when they had dr. lawrence mcluhan, carol tempo wears down the defense of line, it forces you to either keep the ones on the field to the point of exhaustion or try to run in got quite ready for the confusion game to limit searches that will you look at it all right will. where is the weaker clemson i think dell certainly probably the biggest thing and who can exploit that weakness won't hurt you.

there is no question that so a lot of people are writing off backgammon and look at the point recently but it was a two touchdown game for in favor of clemson so i don't know that anybody picking this point tougher matchup with people giving you credit for david hale grant writer espn college football writer and an even better twitter follow at a david hale joint on twitter.

you can find him while were talking about clemson. i just want to play a game called story or not a story i will start with 13 self-imposed football violations for clemson story or not a story story because any you have been illegal use of confetti got a good story you if you run into god's got the court why confetti and put it where you want to hear. have you ever used confetti. i have been on the field situation is really not i don't know where you go by confetti. i don't know if there like a section in the grocery clerk for confetti stable.

they will carry and i want you to search the stress very quickly. it's very important i want it by the end of this interview. where do you by confetti. i want to figure that out.

meanwhile, playing her game here kelly bryant not receiving a championship ring story or not a story. i think it's not a story goal really think anyone cares one where the other sort of been inflating the controversy not really there. but what story is this kind of continued service split between the folks who think that kelly bryant made all the right baby will be treated fairly in all of their and the folks who think left in the middle of the season. clemson could have easily lost because of it and championship game may have never happened in the cave. i don't know that either side is thoroughly wrong, but it is pretty clear.

there is a model pundit. whatever it where don't exactly see eye to eye on you because when people after that i made after week for this year is going to be people like kelly bryant making similar to again and i don't know that it was a big deal for what a week and 1/2 last year and that everybody forgot about it again going to come back around again number is the relationship between dabo and kelly bryant contentious at this point, did they not leave amicably at the end the leave amicably and maybe yeah probably not a terrible word to you. the long and short of it is. kelly he was a quarterback meeting be at practice and never showed up and the only way that comes with ever found out he was leaving and he sent one leaving so i bought exactly what i would call the most professional way of handling it, though i'm not a millennial i think kelly certainly did not endear himself with many people around the clemson program when he made comment after that he didn't feel like he was treated fairly.

there because i think most people within clemson feel like he was treated extremely fairly now, having said all of that. dabo has said look i really like the person i hope you all. i think that's about all you can expect from either side of and kelly will move on with his career. i don't in any way blame him for wanting to get another year and a chance to play a chance to better himself and hopefully have a medical career. all reasonable. there was definitely going not handled in my opinion not handled by kelly bryant particularly well when the you can purchase all your confetti needs and local party.

see walmart simpson or target now you know wonderful now with this year. on the drive from espn.

last but not least, the i never saw this before, but last night on late night you could slip between abc, nbc and cbs. the late-night show that they have and at the same time it was ron burgundy on all the different shows, doing different acts. he was on conan. he was on seth myers to so i just flippantly assume that ron burgundy is the best. will ferrell character and we have it on a pole right now. ricky bobby buddy the elf ron burgundy or brendan from stepbrothers. which do you view david hale as being the best. will ferrell character man. you know are all so what mood you're in. i think i would go to ricky bobby so ridiculous you off the board and just say going back to saturday night live. will ferrell playing harry carey and will ferrell playing neil diamond are two of my all-time favorite pool.

the pool right now since 45% romberg you can continue the vote will not know and what you read it online. read the story. it is how the one had to catch is taking over college football, it is authored by david hale was kind of spend some time with us this afternoon. thanks for doing it. david u. please help on twitter at a david hale joint if you were to buy confetti what would you use it for celebration of we still have that cool in the like, okay, i just went to the local party city and were just hanging out having fun. i have a good one locker room. antonio brown is not probably just swaggering around the locker room firing the double finger. you know i like you are not you know what is up with you my mike, right this settling good stuff.

33 677-1600 last call from including how do you think the pittsburgh steelers locker room is reacting right now to visit your grounders and what the best will ferrell character. he went off the board. i should of said movies, but it sounded like he was just trying to take an escape route because it sounded i wanted to ask, what's the one on your mind right now because he had one of his mind. but then he didn't want to say it because he started considering the other candidates, but the first 20 set was ricky bobby right now. the poll says 44% romberg 26% ricky bobby 21% buddy. the elf 9% for brendan from stepbrothers disrespect towards brendan stepbrothers very similar to the disrespect.

i'd imagine daniel jones was feeling but then last night daniel jones just comes out and swings it. see, we have this character that i don't know if it's a good character or not, it's a good bit were running into working to run into the ground. it's eli manning and daniel jones.

we try to imagine what these conversations sound like and we have a more confident sounding daniel jones after he is perfect.

passing last night against the new york jets you see what i just did the yeah i was i was there you are you on the sideline. i will do what i was doing but i started getting yeah but how you start, it's how you look when you win, there will coached and let me keep line because on the starter starter don't play the first purchase guy we know what a long tube after midnight and i will walk past coaches ring and overheard talking a lot you didn't make the idea to i don't know you blinded you will let leela play couple get a couple of snaps and beginning think you will be starter but he ain't starter and should know we start because we draft quarterback in the first round and then i started saying a bunch of expletives and stuff about you and i michael go tell that explore what expletives explore what's happening see a duke teaches a big word so we can look all craven. we are in public.

they don't do that no man, no, no, i can't get down there so expletive means like naughty word bad word curse word they were saying about you. i don't believe you coach cut coach cut you were saying naughty things about me.

these x tutus work saying that where you all next christian.

i don't know how you will go to true or you will be to kinda like sugarcoating coaching can't handle the truth okay he can't handle the truth.

you use money in the resume and sometimes you know you have all our life lessons that you have to learn might you might be right sometime this year.

i'm off i'm a man i'm two years from 40 know my quarterback rate was last night you don't give the same as mine. i'd imagine hundred 53 books give me hundred 58.3 almost sold myself couple short this you know what day it is or where is desmond, who was daniel know what day it is the day i took your job know it all
