I have about three days away from one of the biggest college football games we played in the triad.

In the last 10 years or so when you're looking at Wake Forest Carolina. These two teams don't play each other that often being the different divisions you have six year rotation unless you are the designated team like every year cross division. So it's a nonconference game Friday night and I think if Wake Forest wants to take the next From being a team that goes to bowl games every year wins bowl games every year to being legitimately respected and being perceived as a team, you expect to win nationally. This is a kind of game you have to win. Wake Forest is at home. Wake Forest is a better team Dave Clawson. He's in his 60s, and it wake all these players are his Mack Brown.

He's in his first year is assembled a great staff is recruited well during the off-season. He has a good young true freshman quarterback, but Wake Forest is quarterback has put up slightly better numbers in the last two games, and to boot.

He was on the roster last year is a redshirt junior and Jamie Newman. So wake Scott the coaches in his sixth year, the more experienced quarterback a bigger chip on the deep shoulder then what North Carolina's come again with North Carolina is swaggering and after beating Miami and heaven that an enormous crowd. A legitimate sellout crowd at Kenan Stadium beating South Carolina in an NFL venue. Meanwhile Wake Forest is to a no not receiving any top 25 votes.

Unlike the Tar Heels got one last week 48 this week. Meanwhile, Wake Forest baby, a Utah state team with an NFL prospecting quarterback was 11 into last year a team watching in person that looked better than both Miami and South Carolina beat that team then one on the road at Houston they're not getting any love or respect. This is a game.

Wake Forest has been circling. I don't know if North Carolina has been looking ahead to play at Wake Forest playing in Winston-Salem when you have Miami in your home opener and you're playing an NFL venue against South Carolina open to open things up and you also got Clemson in a few weeks.

I don't think this game is as much on North Carolina's radar as it is for the deacons.

This game could go a long way in helping the national perception for Wake Forest. Dave Clawson's program, North Carolina again is getting top 25 recognition they have the coat that everybody loves.

Nobody has a negative thing to say about Mack Brown, one of the most respected coaches in the industry, and rightfully so, won a national title does things the right way. No scandals. You could talk about his time in Texas and North Carolina. None at all.

He's done it the right way. He was lovable on television, and now he's back he's winning is an underdog program but didn't win last year and he's doing so with a very good true freshman quarterback. If your quarterbacks good and you're on the national radar beating power. Five teams and you have a coach that people trust your gonna get love nationally and that's what's happening with North Carolina. So even though the Tar Heels beat those two teams. I'm not convinced there are better team than Wake Forest. If wake, wins this game they might well be the second best team in the ACC. I thought Syracuse was that I put out my ACC rankings today that you can find ACC sports.com David Glenn Bryden I suture put out there rankings as well go one through 14. It was accepted that Clemson's number one of course, and Clemson was number two pretty much a lock as well. But then Syracuse gets blown out by Maryland last week and Syracuse has to go to Clemson this week work. She's been a hosting client. Either way that's likely going to be a loss and I don't care who you are pure to lost team. I'm not favor you over a team that's two NL especially if you're beating bowl teams like Wake Forest and North Carolina have done. The question would be Virginia or Wake Forest. If I had the lien right now. I'd take Virginia just because of the year they had last year, Bryce Perkins, Bryce Hall, both those players coming back. They one bigger gains than Wake Forest. One last year but if you win against what you want your certainly third in the ACC maybe second, these types of things matter when you're talking about national perception. You will get the same love SEC teams do when Kentucky started off great last year while Florida was still finding its footing under Dan Mullen and other programs of the SEC were struggling that the narrative was well look how great Kentucky raven and also mere and they were picking fun of the SEC for Kentucky being ranked in the top 15 Kentucky being ranked at the top 10 under Mark stoops bought when Syracuse was in the top 15 when Virginia was creeping into the top 25. It felt like the nation was laughing and pointing at the ACC half Florida State's down Miami is down and you want to come to the table that we all know Clemson is good, but you want to come in here and expect us to respect Virginia and Syracuse that's likely what would happen if Wake Forest got good and started winning games consecutively and going on a run here, it's very possible that could happen. I think Wake Forest should win Friday's game if wake wants to take that next step and I'm somebody you picked Wake Forest went eight games in the regular season. If that's something that will happen. It happens with beating North Carolina at home then it's Elon next week.

By the way, that is Wake Forest for Saturday game of the year they announced that's noon kickoff noon ticket BB&T Field next Saturday for Elon, Wake Forest then you go on the road at Boston College.

Even if we call that a loss for wake talk about a four and one start with Scott Satterfield in Louisville coming into your building, your gonna be a favorite and that we CL down Florida State is FSU is coming to BB&T Field.

After that, then it's NC state going to BB&T Field forces had NC states number the last few years so feasibly you could be looking at a seven and one start for Wake Forest football then it's at Virginia Tech at Clemson home against Duke at Syracuse.

The gauntlet not great, but a 71 start. That's enough to get on the national radar. I think, and that only happens if you win at home against North Carolina Friday night at 6 o'clock Brickley six 777-1600 if you wanted on today show on Twitter at sports on dry. I think this is the biggest home game of Dave Clawson's tenure. If there's another game that comes to mind. I'd be happy to hear it. You might point to the NC State game last year with the punch out on the goal line.

NC state drive again almost scoring. But remember Wake Forest. They went on the went eight games that your NC state they were coming off a tough loss against Clemson in their season really spiraled in another direction.

After that, this is early on while both Mack Brown and Dave Clawson are very optimistic about where their programs are at and I think there's more on the table for Winston-Salem she's the Wake Forest looking at how the schedule lies out with them. I think this is a bigger game than that one was and if it's not that one. I don't know what the next biggest game of Dave Clawson's tenure is what is the last football game for Wake Forest that is bigger for this one. If your deep and I'd love to hear it. 336-777-1600 Desmond Johnson technical distance. I did not think four weeks ago or five weeks ago that we would be talk about workforce in Carolina has been such a huge game, but in fact it is as you mentioned, and I didn't realize until couple hours ago, but this is the first time in the hundred and 31 year history of the rivalry where both are undefeated meeting each other all this rivalry in North Carolina is crazy. It's not that I don't blame each other anymore, but is not a baby's pleasure every year for like 70+ years so me of crazy they've never seen you either one more or 100 or anything like that so I I'm trying to figure out a way to be able to keep up with this game. Friday evening could be called high school football saga can have a boat going on the same time, which is pretty much impossible to catch the first half, maybe on the radio will Maxell be here to stay on your way.

You got can't just teleport I'm sure you're going to be driving somewhere. It's these recycled departments on the street. I'll try to think of every way. All seven 3730 kickoff time at least the first half yeah hug you little bit and then a halftime report you can figure things out during the East foresight broadcast. I'm sure there will be away to just sneak in there. By the way, by the way in Winston-Salem elsewhere in the Triad, Wake Forest, North Carolina. Just a thought to sense to throw in there but yet these teams will play each other. Distance turnout is the only player who has played against North Carolina when you consider the rotation and how long it's been since these two teams have played. Dave Clawson was talking about that at his press conference a few hours ago and he's adamant he wants to see North Carolina more know that was just it's a weird rivalry because your rivals seem like you. You should claim every year and we certainly would be in favor of some type of set up that we get the play Carolina Duke and NC State. Every year, that would be our preference, I think some people are criticizing us for playing this game but we don't care.

This is a game that we want our fans want our alumni one there fans there alumni games like this are good for college football agree with him more the loss of this rivalry is a casualty of conference realignment. Selfishly we want these games to be played locally that something that we want. Because of the history you mentioned how long these two teams of them facing each other. It's the oldest rivalry in North Carolina, but it feels strange to call it a rivalry because they only play each other on the ACC cycle once every six years with wake me and in the Atlantic in North Carolina being in the coastal but when you look at there being 14 teams.

There's no feasible way to make it happen unless you played nonconference games and a lot of the second team you play cross division every year. I know this is something that weighs on John Swofford, the ACC Commissioner he somebody who really appreciates the history of the league and there's no secret North Carolina guy went to North Carolina so this is something I'm sure matters to him bought a decision to have more teams in the league and to sacrifice some of these games you believe should be played. It's a decision for the better of the week you might set all the leagues were soft with Carolina not basing Wake Forest John Swofford would come back, likely with without Syracuse and Pittsburgh and Miami and Virginia Tech. There's no ACC network. We don't have a very lucrative TV contract with ESPN and ABC if not for us reaching those markets. Boston College without those programs. The ACC network likely does not exist which means your to be sacrificing millions upon millions of dollars each year and falling behind in the arms race of college athletics. If you don't expand so Wake Forest in North Carolina over the longer the blankets. Other would be worse off competitively.

If not for expansion. So when ever you make decisions you gotta will evaluate the pros and the cons and John Swofford like we did this with anything that happened when expansion was so prevalent five or six years ago and even if he saw Wake Forest not play North Carolina as a potential casual that just be an example here.

He did the better of the week and it is something that you could say objectively has been better for the week. Now that the ACC network is launched and it looks like is going to be successful considering where the subscriber base is right, at its launch. You are listening to sports and try it. The drive is broadcast live in the Law offices of Tim Wellborn studios learn about all the different ways Tim wellbore can help you online@timwellborn.com a tremendous sponsor of the program to drive broadcast live in the law of sensitivity Wellborn studios will know when you need us coming up. What separates the New Orleans Saints from the Panthers to appear on the drive is 609. 20.

Now back to drive with Josh Graham, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better in a ballgame that drives the last 55 game I thought. Exemplify why the New Orleans Saints are going to win the NFC South again because what true breeze did getting the ball at less than 30 seconds left one timeout remaining. Only three other quarterbacks in the sport could have executed what breeze did last night Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson goes for quarterbacks are the only four I feel like they're capable to do what breeze did and make it look as easy as number nine. Did Camdenton could not not as polished as a thrower and he's not the type of guy who's more, he's not is on time with this passage as some of those other surgical in the pocket passers that I just mentioned also is not as good at the time manager cam Newton's a great quarterback is good to be a Hall of Fame quarterback in my mind, but what's not say just because you're a Hall of Fame quarterback Pat you're somebody who is great at everything that your the greatest of an era.

The quarterbacks I just mentioned baby Sands Russell Wilson, the greatest quarterbacks of this era Brady Rogers true breeze guys that you know when you get the ball.

There's no amount of time that is too little for the disguised engineer some magic experience is everything there true breeze. He's the one that gets all the credit, but I had to go back and look this up. Jeff Fisher.

He was coaching forever. Marvin Lewis was with the Bengals since 2003. Despite the fact they didn't want any playoff games. They made a change.

This past off-season, but aside from Bill Belichick who was hired in 2000 by the patriots. Do you know who's the longest tenured coach in the NFL.

It's Sean Payton.

He was hired in 2006 and it just has become second nature. The relationship Payton and breeze have latent games they don't get frazzled and in that spot. When stunning developments happen and happen in succession one Houston getting the football down by six DeShawn Watson into place, finding the Andre Hopkins on the sideline, then hitting recently acquired kidney stills for the touchdown that's already a shocking development that you have to mentally adjust to. Oh my goodness they scored. I got a get the ball back, but that was the only shocking thing that happened in that sequence, then you have the missed field goal insulation for five seconds.

You see the dirty laundry and realize, oh goodness we rough the kicker.

Then he makes the kick so process all of that, while also realizing the task ahead. Hey, there's less than 30 seconds left.

This game is not over. We could score here so the experience for a quarterback I think is appropriately covered and I mentioned Brady Rogers Wilson breeze those of the four guys I feel like in this league that a cop can accomplish that with regularity.

Sean Payton though from a coaching perspective. The things he did choosing not to use a timeout rushing to the line a few times getting down to six second Romeo Cornell is getting hammered today offensive coordinator for the Texas because the prevent defense look bad on film but go back and watch the play. There's four receivers running what seemed to be button hooks or sideline patters. It was like a 2 x 2 formation to Isaac C was left doing the right three of the four receivers were covered covered and there was no throne to be made true breeze.

Whether it was pre-snap, whereas things were developing. He recognized who the open receiver was going to be peace.

He identified that very quickly you get it.

About six I could let you throw it in you down it with to call timeout.

That's about as well as you can execute it so I think it's a little bit too much to just look at the pre-snap formation and think Romeo Cornell the hell you doing as if we understand offensive football that well, but go back and look at the play you find how many receivers are open. Running very similar patterns and the guy who caught the ball in the slot.

They were all covered true breeze pre-snap. It seemed recognize the right guy to get the ball to his. I mean I'm not going to sit here and act like I know more than a defensive coordinator. It's one super Bowls like Romeo Cornell but they had like like five or six guys, like 15+ yards away from the line of scrimmage that we need like six or seven here. I think I had a cushion more than 9 yards away without me leg put basically put that that receiver in a one on one type situation and he had separation and renew where to go the infallible. He found the right guy, but that's more untrue breeze than I think it's a complete detriment to Romeo Cornell but Sean Payton deserves a lot of credit today to wasn't just the drive will lots hitting that field goal. How long do you think that's good from it was about halfway upright to 60 40 know it look like he barely got through the suicide angle of it. They showed up in the game.

It came through like right above the crossbar is probably good for well over a Vogel 58. It was his career and I got maybe Miller got 60 the pass rush was awesome for the saints last night breeze Michael Thomas. They will be the attention getters. Alvin Camara running out of the backfield and going straight up seems making catches he was good last night, but the pass rush I thought was almost a bigger story than the finish way they got the Houston and Houston how much they gave up to bolster this offense of line and it just didn't really work last night, so Houston has to go back to the drawing board a little bit and earlier today I think I saw the maid assigning signing is centered in it that Houston check this very quickly for me.

I think it was a three-year contract.

I don't know if it was completely confirmed. But it was a rumor that was out there used to making assigning at center earlier today but it just didn't work right there.

And even though Houston was getting hammered and specifically DeShawn Watson. He was still making great throws the touchdown been a perfect example of that.

Yes of the Texans signed or made that extended their starting center Nick Martin with your extension were 33 million of the just extended to 18 nonguaranteed, other than the. The touchdown pass to Kenny stills.

I almost felt Watson he was somebody that it was starting to get to him. I didn't think Houston will be able to engineer what they did, especially as quickly as they did, but good on DeShawn Watson for doing so, they look like a playoff team as well. Friday night it's Wake Forest and North Carolina massive game in the triad massive game for the Surette family North Carolina kids Sage and jazz Surette jazz Surette playing quarterback for the Tar Heels flipping the linebacker leading the demon tackles in the opening win against South Carolina. Sage Surette he just looks very good and have you noticed an cotton on the broadcast.

He's opened up the rat patrol when states rackets big time catches the rat patrol to keep an eye on. But there was no bigger thrill for me personally in my athletic playing career which was short granted them playing my brother see my brother. I think when I went into high school he went to a different school. I was in like a public charter in Wake Forest, North Carolina, north of Raleigh and my brother since I think our residence was crossed the wake County line.

We were in Franklin County. He decided because of how good the soccer program was at that particular high school to play Bayer and as fate would have it, are high schools displayed each other and my brother. He's a better soccer player than I was.

He's two years older than me.

There wasn't anything I can remember looking forward to more being more excited about then playing against my brother Jordan in a high school competitive sport playing in soccer and his team black stars we lost six to nothing but one of my prized possessions I have is a photo and back then I was rocking like a buzz cut regularly. I was a buzz cut.

Pretty much my entire young life. Thank you mom and dad I was going up for a header and it's just a photo of me and my brother playing competitively against each other.

The high school level going up for a header that high school sport. This is college and high level college rivalry game Wake Forest, North Carolina.

Again, that might be sold out should be sold out at BB&T Field and I guess it's fitting that they're playing each other on Friday night. Considering that both North Carolina high school kids, but it's also rare that they're playing two different positions. Sage playing wide receiver Chaz playing linebacker, which means Victor to be on the field at the same time and Chaz told me after North Carolina beat South Carolina that is looking forward to backing.

Looking forward to playing Sage and he says it gets an opportunity might lower the boom brother you know that's going to talk more about the schedules came out great.

They're both great athletes. I expect there to be some kind of hit, but I if you have any stories you care to share about sibling competitiveness and maybe facing siblings in a sport 336-777-1600 on Twitter at sports of dry. Can you think of any quarterback that college or pro level that you would be called will playing linebacker cam Newton running 65 240.

That sounds alright have no problem with that is is a strange to go to that position usually "record what receiver or skill position, but linebacker left, crazies actually after work. Speaking of putting in work folks up. I guys pizza had been putting in work for us to give us a room pizza for got sick. It is ranchland pizza Buffalo chicken bacon on top of the Texas Pete base. It is wonderful pizza that they're still serving in the recent are still serving is because people are buying it and they like it little bit of kick overall about here, but that's not enough kick for you if you want to try different pie and maybe get some spice elsewhere, Buffalo wings really good.

I love their sandwiches Moravian sugarcane pie. I've been talking about this the last month or so to go on record faith. The best dessert anywhere you can find in the triad best dessert I've had at a restaurant and if use if you're saying I'm wrong. Go try it and then tell me I'm wrong. Moravian sugarcane Louisville Clemmons Road right off blissful comments are defined the Kinnaman Village, and inside the commando's comments by guys pizza order online@pieguys.com for your service next.

My concern with cam Newton for Thursday night. It has very little to do with his arm since the drive is 609 20. Now back to the drive with Josh Graham Ryder printed Mark, the Charlotte Observer quick turnaround Panthers losing 30 to 27 to the RAM Sunday the Buccaneers on Thursday night in Charlotte spent a lot of time on Wake Forest, North Carolina on Friday what we get is in terms of putting in the national spotlight football in this area.

Brendan I understand you had a chance to talk to cam Newton today usually speaks on Wednesdays, but it is a compressed week.

Gerald McCoy is getting prepared for his former team as well. What stood out to you from what cam had to say earlier today while John definitely in a good mood. You thought that I think one thing that people obviously are wondering about our game is concerned it can cam Newton and after getting up or questioned about that very topic you know you that the question came pretty broadly responded yeah because you only asked me about my shoulder and then said something that that was pretty interesting and especially fiery, considering the way that I think people are making cam out to be about that one. Talk to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers event coordinator you asked him if he can effective the 20 yard. If not, see how that goes with them about that. So I think that your service shows for frustrated I can relate having to answer questions about his shoulder not the one we got asking them.

You know, until until we see that the broader question definitely interesting enough, I find myself a little bit more interested in his foot, than his shoulder. After the first game he only ran it three times and if you look at the last five years. Brendan the number of times.

Cam has rushed fewer than three times you'll only find three instances in a five-year stretch that that's happened only one of those runs was a design quarterback run and that happened just at the start of the fourth quarter. What do we know about the status of Camden's foot yeah I'm in your court and listed on the interior corporate for q. week now and keep it get back to practicing when your current regarding Outlook but Sprint I'm not entirely sure that that's the reason why there is a deficiency of run place for chamomile the team at Danang non-Christian McCaffrey. It is to take some of the load off of cam running you know if cam going to play and have a longevity case career not something that he doesn't want to be around the Carolina 456+ years take better care of his body doing things internally got but on top of that, the team around about the protected Mark not going to be calling his number 25 times a game to run anymore. I want to make it such a dynamic player that I would be surprised at all. He has rushed back to kick down any the team at some point does not think about cam long-term future that the trick is making sure that you're not followed Brenda Marx on Twitter at Brendan arm marks me to stop in the Observer online@charlotteobserver.com I know I'm probably in the minority of this, but I didn't really view Sunday as that negative a result for Carolina considering when you look at the problem areas from last year. Most notably, the offense of line and the defensive pass rush. I thought Brian Burns was very active. They got hurries on Jared Goff, the secondary look to improve a new defensive scheme and all offensively you got the middle of your offense of line which is pretty new and inexperienced program, wrote, and I know that's not flashier but Reagan wrote in his pair there with that fairness against Aaron Donald and Aaron. Donald essentially was a nonfactor for most of the game which I consider to be a big win for the offense of life. They seem to be improve those problem areas. Am I crazy for thinking Sunday was it the most negative result, even though it is a 1B input in the loss, there are number of things I think you were brother but not one of them how you got again. Truthfully really good opportunity when I game I don't play all that impressively and people are going to point to cam again. Cannot the deep ball and giving up some runs especially in the second half the game and errands harped on this week.

I agree with you humming the reigning two-time reigning defensive player of the year and Donald at what one I'm in the team effectively asking him out of the game and enters foreign all I am highflying passing attack here got 186 yard interception out onto that. I think that the team looked at that that game as we let one get away almost rather than man reflected in the atmosphere on the locker room on Sunday and wanted to spare me last seven game losing streak walked in Matlock and it felt like somebody had just lost a family member. Something like that at all on Sunday. It felt like okay we know we screwed up we knew we let them get out of our handing away from not let that happen again.

We know about it and I think that should encourage and housekeeping.

No Greg Greg Liddell is the rookie offense of lineman.

The Panthers drafted and I understand he was a participant in practice today. He still has been cleared in the concussion protocol yet, but if he is cleared when he is clear how soon before Ron Rivera wants to see them on the field prior record you want to rush Greg back in practice was just because again, often runs into what the cost of the God if he cleared yet about one or two more steps in the protocol there that if you quit there the possibility that could be. He could be in uniform on Thursday against the box.

I think you're not the situation were correct little comes out and taking starting spot away from someone dear William Taylor pretty much have to tackle spot on lock down as outré turn guard that you think that you would like to get on the field is something of a swing tackle date they really have a lot of debt that tackle beyond him and he want to start to get game experience of that down the he is prepared for starting job that the trajectory and the route they took with Dale Williams and Taylor young player, like the sample in the Greg Liddell did eventually become one of the book, and hopefully ensure little more longevity for camp career prior to this year. Gerald McCoy spent his entire career as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he was cut late in the off-season because they thinning on the consumer was signed with the box and they decided hey we we don't have to take on this cash if we don't want to. Let's cut the guy and it likely cost Gerald McCoy a couple million dollars. Considering that teams were mostly booked up with their At that point and the spring, but the Panthers were able to make things work and fit him in Torrey Smith was no longer with the team anymore restructured his contract at the time look equally had things restructured to where he got some of his guaranteed money and they were able to work in Gerald McCoy to their picture salary-cap wise. Now his face at his former team this week house. He viewing this opportunity.

What's he saying now are very warm around Gerald in the locker room and obviously you can understand why you want to know how you approach your are you approaching it at night when he came back, the Carolina liquor Reagan know they're going to be blunt, got, or situation where you rivalry game whatever whatever and basically came to the point of saying I'm trying not to make this bigger than it needs to be. I obviously played in Tampa for nine years I legacy there, so to speak for itself what I would able to accomplish individually, even he plans on retiring the bucket. We got that worked out regardless of where he played after this or what you come to their obviously you can see how much the thing I found most interesting was Jill said he got an overhyped career again once in his career before… Three times and all they want to turn this into a bigger deal than you getting your own heart rate pressure that there basically what you said it. We have 14 more games after this one play great this week and like garbage for the next 14 don't care what I didn't week so the biggest thing for him trying to fit into the defense of rotation. Overall not make this a bigger deal than it has to be although I'm sure if you are able to pick up Jim winter document template on you have something extra file that your Panthers the right to bring the marks on twitter and Brendan are marks me to stop in the observer observer.com Brendan I'll see you Thursday think this money yet to go to Kenya that's Brenda Mark and he was referencing Steve Smith's game he played against the Panthers game was in Baltimore in 2014. That's the last time I went to a game in Baltimore. I grew up in Baltimore. I've been to, geez, how many of the Panthers ravens game survived into the player every four years I was there in 2018 last year.

Of course, in Charlie.

I was there when Steve Smith, the Panthers almost single-handedly with three touchdowns was funny as Panther fans were reacting to that game for journalism. Glad it was Steve Smith nakedness. You know what I hate that I had to let you know what we still hate that the team got rid of Steve Smith. So if Steve Smith was the one doing it gives us an opportunity to continue yelling at gentlemen because I you let that guy go and look what he did.

If we were to lose that game is better that is him that was the mindset I remember after that that was the ravens. If Steve Smith had no catches and we still lost by that score that stings more than we still like that guy and that guy did well. It was good that he was able to stick it to the guy who we were met after letting you go lower callouts dismiss best game that season to this career, there three touchdowns else found a 10,010. Oddly enough was all ravens fans at Charlotte. It was the Clawson game single-handedly allowed to get sealed the Panthers drafting a guy named cam Newton at the number one pick. I do remember it was actually not to be close. It was a UPS driver, Brian St. Pierre, homework payment in the Panthers were if I get is what touchdowns David Gaddis excuse me, it was 2113, one possession game in the fourth quarter and the Panthers had the ball back to back possessions and read Ray Lewis pick six that that 2010 Panthers team is by far the hardest paver team of had to walk 2001, would would argue even that one was like you got to a point where was like usually watch the game thousand six I was in Baltimore. That's alas when I went to the first one honey it was Steve McNair getting knocked up Julius peppers Kolb overthrowing three touchdowns, but Steve Smith did enough to win the game. So yes little bit of history with the ravens in the Panthers you're listening to W STS with Dale W COG Greenbrook BPC in Burlington WMF or Highpoint signals making up the sport of dry do you live with just grand force six 920 usually on Monday or marinade see rankings go on one through 14 ACC sports.com you can find that my rankings are there early afternoon. Glenn's rankings are there right guys as well, from ACC sports.com ranking ACC teams one through 14 and I usually like what we have DG on once a week at this time to look at some of the discrepancies that might be there between what DG has and what I have and we all pretty much were in agreement. The first few weeks that Syracuse was the number two team in the ACC they get rolled by Maryland and I happen to believe Marilyn's a good football team. They lost their coat from last year because of the death of Jordan McNair and that Justin claimed EJ and Marilyn rolled the circuit last week as a favorite.

You have Syracuse DG dropped all the way to number nine. I still have them write the same spot is Wake Forest. I just simply asked myself if they played each other tomorrow.

Who would I pick and I still would take the orange over Wake Forest at this present moment.

What was your thinking, your spirit on Iona Wake Forest and all summer long. But if I had you actually think edema deacons.

While not a popular pick my. And higher on the deepest and most with Syracuse course it was mainly getting blown out. Marilyn.

But when you give out that many point, something is fundamentally wrong that when you can score only quality authentically against liberty something is also wrong, which really great week of alarm bells for the orange even though they have wanted one record and meanwhile it's pretty straight weeks of good football for the demon deacons and you have to prove that they're going to handle this transition from their veteran QB Eric.G2 Tommy DeVito, who hadn't played great. Yet okay and they have to prove that last year 10 win season under Dino gravers was the real Syracuse rather than the first two teams.

We thought Syracuse under Dino gravers which were bad football team so that there is reason for doubt.

But I will add this once you get past the two themes that many of us pick to win the divisions in the ACC club in Virginia. It's wide open because some people at Miami at 14 could grow into and that's not a bad oh into football team and others are excited about their 20 but you know the Wolfpack hasn't beaten anybody yet to know yet UNC want to single possession games and could easily be either owing to work through were no or whether it sliding Syracuse or one of these other team that we are latent errors when it comes to anybody not Nate Clemson or UVA. Like you, I was silently force from the very start to I think them third in the Atlantic in the preseason. I thought they were going to win eight games this year and they don't get the hay. If they don't beat North Carolina. I think that Wake Forest is a better team than North Carolina right now.

Clawson's and a six year it's all these guys.

He is the more experienced quarterback is putting up great numbers and Jamie Newman and I also think there's a bigger chip for Wake Forest there at home, but I think this is a game that Dave circled in a way that North Carolina hasn't with North Carolina having the home opener against Miami. Everyone was looking forward to playing in an NFL venue.

I think the digs are gunning for the that heals in a way that heals are gunning for the geeks. How big of a game do you do this to be Friday and do you think could help alter national perception when it comes to Wake Forest.

I think it's a really big deal for a couple different reasons will on from the Carolina prospective background that were neatly on the record, I remember him actually creating the free state championship back in the early 90s when he was the target of head coach the first time and he would say occasionally and even that it rejoin Carolina.

It's hard to convince the recruits you want most in state become your school if you can't beat your in-state rivals consistently. That doesn't mean reading in every single time. But after dominating NC State or Duke, for example for long stretches of history you are those who have been on the other foot, at times with David Cook with the Duke and Dave Doran at end date and where is it all quite Wake Forest every year.

The way they want good because there are not. The point remains the same.

They don't regularly see each other on the recruiting trail, if not all 25 guys, but there's going to be 1/2 dozen or so that both whatever year and they're paying attention to games like this for Carolina to get where it wants to go a bowl or better they need to win a game like this and I believe from the weight perspective Josh. I think this can be Dave Clawson's best team there. We all know is going to three straight goals and 13 straight goals and those that the first kind of statement you can make in the history of Wake Forest football but to get to 39 wins or even have a chance to get to that level. This is another one of those that the geeks have to win because you know Clemson and from other tougher games are on the schedule so I think it big for local and regional purposes, and I think it's big from the national perspective because the winter is going to be a candidate to be in the national top 25 ranking and the loser is going to be more of an afterthought, not an authorized maybe, but certainly in the eyes of the poll voters. It's early afternoon who stated going with the solicitor today to go until noon to three right here on sports of Triad. You mention how irregularly these two teams face each face each other.

This nonconference game on Friday night.

Dave Clawson was talking about that a little bit earlier today and he somebody wants to see something change maybe find a way for Wake Forest to play North Carolina little more. Here's what's out there.

Clawson at the game is huge and we know that was just it's a real rivalry because rivals seems like you should plan every year and certainly would be in favor of some type of set up that we get to play Carolina Duke and NC State. Every year, that would be our preference to some people are criticizing us for playing this game but we don't care. This is a game that we want our fans on our alumni one there fans there alumni games like this are good for college football so obviously this is something you sacrifice with conference expansion and realignment getting to a place where the ACC has 14 schools and and making things tough to play teams across from different divisions, but obviously the thing that's been brought up today and has been brought up for a while now, with this many teams in the ACC is the idea of playing nonconference games to allow for something like this.

Would you be in favor of that. If it meant more North Carolina Wake Forest dog opinion on it.

Either way, all of those good I pay lip mandate is right, the customer is and always right at that old saying goes, you better listen to your customers if you're smart I love one-way complete Carolina selfishly, but I do understand why and on the rare occasion that some of our teams have been in the national profile that they don't want to play what I have nine of their 12 games handed to them. They like the flexibility of the four-game nonconference agile because that flexibility can allow more home games for you. That's your style. It can allow you to schedule up if you think you have a special team and you want to add a really difficult nonconference game. You can do that. Or maybe you have a new coach or urine rebuilding mode in those four games allow you some flexibility to schedule ballot if you need to. They allow you flexibility to schedule appointment parts of the country beyond our state were maybe you'd like to recruit and you'd like to play a nonconference game and athletic director. I'd like the flexibility of the coach. I'd like to go as a media member. I love when the deacons play guitar. You'll so I think it's one of those things were each conference that the make the bell the coaches that their perspective VADs have their perspective than the phantom voices should be heard okay with the current system, even as you said realignment has watered down a lot of the rivalries I know how important the TV money that the realignment led to is in the bigger picture. So everything is a trade-off in life and sometimes you give away a little bit and rivalries when you open your arms to that bigger TV money so you know what the fans be heard but let's remember that we don't live in a vacuum and what the TV powers wanting what these athletic directors on also are big factors in this equation David going with us and he's on the go. On weekends he was at in Chapel Hill with the big tailgate tour on Saturday.

I was hanging out in Chapel Hill as well and what I learned DG. He's a lefty he's been talking about this on the air. This guy is accurate. He still got the wing when it's going. It is accurate and he throws it straight to the tire toss almost every single time every meaningful throw DG your complete body look like Drew breeze and the final 30 minutes of 30 seconds of last nights game, I am Jamie Newman and Pam Howell like my accuracy with the football. I just don't have large athletic human beings running at me as I win prizes for listeners, Jamie and Sam have that issue on Friday night Friday night. I don't have that if you are good reports about the very fact that I don't DG be vigilant. Stay safe. Greenville America is awaiting you this weekend is the Pirates face actually where are you headed this week I'm to be at ECUs. I have about this for a wrinkle in opening week next week correct. Wrinkle next week.

We have 14 games, but it's over 12 games but over 14 weeks were kind of like a college football team. We get an open week or two sprinkled it. You need the extra week to prepare for Greenville America works that left shoulder and want to scare a lot of this week and going to Annapolis. Four games in four days for yours truly DG how are you spending your open week. I'm actually helping my son Anthony with some challenges in dealing with you and unfortunately my soccer playing daughter Avery has been diagnosed with mononucleosis which comes with a whole sort of sports and all native of sports medicine challenges so were were cleaning up from Glenn Glenn family method with my open weekend guide. I will get to watch. You know deep bar yield and other college football and the other Panthers home opener. This is the second game I should maybe their first win this Thursday but yeah there's some there method up mess up the cleanup for the extended Glenn family.

It's super radio host and super dad David going on twitter at David going on. Alyssa noon to three urine sports I'm trying DG thinks is been a time of this is always appreciated that aliquot, but that's David going
