College football Hall of Famer Max Brown to join us in just a couple of moments his football team starting spring practice.

The big question. Can Sam how do what he did in 2019 but elevators play take it to another level because I'm going to go ahead and fast-forward the calendar six or so months from now will just push it five months from now we will have ACC football kickoff will be in Charlotte will be preparing for the start of the year they're going to ask the media to fill out a preseason poll and of course the Clemson Tigers with Trevor Lawrence coming back. Tableau Sweeney Travis ETN returning to the team. They're going to be picked as the overwhelming baby unanimous winner of the Atlantic Coast conference, but almost as sure as I am. That's going to happen.

Clemson skin to be picked as the winner of the ACC. I feel almost as certain that the same things going to take place for the North Carolina Tar Heels in the coastal division gloves would be Virginia. They're losing Bryce Perkins they're losing their best wide receiver Dubois their losing price all at corner think they kinda limped down the stretch. Pittsburgh bear losing so much, including their quarterback. So in the coastal. I don't really know another team that has as much positive momentum going their way in the North Carolina Tar Heels and with CFL considering all the quarterback's background is work with dad is a guy I'm fascinated to see how he improves from last year what the next step in his progression is when I'll be enjoined by the Hall of Famer background.

It is one of those guest coach that we always look forward to chatting with puts a smile to my face every time you're on the phone with us. We haven't talked to you since the season ended. Now that spring balls began. How much time did you get in the mountains this off-season. We didn't get what I'm going to go back were recruited. You've got to where were at a different place in our program. Now the patient journey elevated I were having a team meeting here at 515 today were going talk forgot about the difference in the year and that right now were talking about winning the coastal were talking about competing with pumps and women conference championship and last year were dormant wanted some game so exciting time in North Carolina and were were really have a lot of fun in the office when you're talking to your team coach. What do you think to give us the summation of what you're going to tell you guys what is the difference between a year, but the difference is that we know each other, last year we didn't know we were wheat. We know that we can compete. We know that we can win.

We know that we gotta take another start winning some of the one some of the close games last year p.m. We also lost the six overtime game we lost in overtime game game we have to win so I patient now is not figure out each other's name and have their names on their helmet not figure out what we've got to do to keep having penalties but we got to do to develop more discipline, but we've got to do to improve our facilities the need to have our hands full. A lot of those things that those boxes are checked. So now what we've got to do is figure out how to take what we were good at last year and develop more weight we gotta develop their leadership because clearly the themes are really good teams. Conflict teams are average will go develop more depth. So we need you got it up and and play better and were getting to go to spring break next week so it go to Himself because we start spring practice on Tuesday. After we get back from spring break so we got to be really mature and make good decisions as well. We talked in the past. Coach about your quarterback history working with a guy like Vince Young and Colt McCoy and following both of their careers and taxes. There they progressed so much year to year, with culmination being there. One of the best quarterbacks in the country. When they finished up blanket taxes and you said that Sam how he's a special type of quarterback for you guys so when you're speaking to him, and you're looking at the tape and what he did in his first year as a true freshman, what's the next step in his development had to get to year to it is to play better and everything gets stronger, run better home. A locked gate router last year and Kate Borden transferred we could run so Sam can can be a real weapon, when he is running the football weather scrambling after there's something that's not open our or whether to run from coach Longo and at the same time he was very accurate but he missed some throws. He wished he had back in probably held the ball too long, and took some slack so there a lot of things that Sam can do to improve them and and will have gate router this spring.

What will have Jacoby critical this spring will have relevant availability spring. It was a welcome parcel where were going to be able to explore some new looking good-looking running plays with her quarterbacks on offense as well. It's North Carolina head coach Mack Brown with this year on sports triad seat you spent so much time in Chapel Hill is the all-time career wins leader in North Carolina football history this week is a major week on the basketball front Tar Heels are playing Duke on Saturday. Do you have a story surrounding that rivalry on the basketball in that you can share maybe a firsthand experience or maybe a particular game.

You remember watching. Well, when you I was here with me up obviously and got written. Even Coach Williams was when I was first here so he's been a lifetime friend and I miss baby if you games with her basketball game. I love watching the guys play. I'll be there tonight pulling hard for the woman.

I think the biggest thing are all things that I've learned from coach Smith and coach Deatherage and Coach Williams and just watching them and their teams compete at a high level in we shared ideas for years and it's been a great experience for me but for them to help us recruit a sit down and talk to players for games at the same time not just help with recruitment but but talk to me about things we one of the things I have coach Smith Earl is, why do you think you're so successful herein. He talked about playing time and he said that your when your backup server are fresher then your starter and they can play as well get the starter out the back up in help you prevent injuries. It helps fatigue better morale for recruiting just help everybody get guys ready to play with my leaves early for the MBA or when the bell so small is that my theme that's one thing that we've used for many many years.

That was when Lou Williams passed Coach Smith on the North Carolina career wins list a few months ago. He just flatly denied any idea that he would be better than coach Smith anything because he feels that everything he dies. North Carolina is an extension of what took Smith taught him but since you got to know both of them. We know they're both great coaches.

But how do you feel there different coaches at all from somebody who's a Hall of Famer in his own right. I think they are and they got that I learned from her are our God that I am elated and and Coach Williams done that a lot of coach Smith. But at the same time there there little bit different because they were raised different but Roy Williams story is one of the best in sports history.

He was a walk on the basketball team. He believed the basketball team to work as unofficial in the recreation office and coach Smith back to work as campus officiating in the summer and and then at some point EE Hardy was the freshman coach so he didn't have the easy way out. He didn't have the on the great basketball player that somebody hired the work really really hard and with a lot of half of the work as well never misses a football game because he was actually a high school football coach at one time to so I have a very unique background that makes him very special Brown North Carolina head football coach with the seer on sports of giant want to get to one newsworthy subject with you something that basketball coaches have been talking about the last couple of weeks and Paul coaches in their own right to the NCAA. They are discussing the one time transfer proposal and quite frankly it seems like something that's inevitable working to have players transferring from one place to the other without the punishment having to sit out a year the ACC released a statement saying.

Therefore, this ad some coaches across the country have expressed concern as to what it's going to look like what the unwanted consequences are going to be if something like this passes. What is your feeling on the NCAA's one time transfer proposal for a 32 year head coach and I've always stood on the side of the player and you want what's best for the student athletes.

That just who we are and coaches can move in anytime they want to. Players don't understand what I'm talking about it that there usually buyout that make it a little bit more difficult for coaches to move then then people think so much as I want players to be able to do exactly what they want the concerns I have one that we don't want to make it so easy to transfer, like making divorce so easy that if you have a bad day with your wife. You just leave so you you don't want young guys that get mad at their coach and decide there going in the transfer portal this afternoon as you were trying to build loyalty and were trying to talk about quitting. Stick with it through and then if it doesn't work. You can look at transferring but hate the methods that were sending that it's so easy to quit transfer now that you don't have to stay there and fight through some adversity because they don't have that in their lives. Later all and and transferred transfer want you have problems with the other school to an end and then you can't transfer anymore. Secondly I would like to think that if were going to have the one transfer rule, then we should have it in the summer and you go past June, per se, then you start getting in the, the possibility of tampering with coaches of the Louisiana spring practice and the code or the agent of the code in constant contact the kid on another team start talking to him about transferring and and you could actually have somebody transfer in August right before you started practice and play against him.

Two weeks later or three weeks later in the third or fourth week of the season so so January is when I think you should be able transfer and and and after that you could look at it, possibly as late as June, but hereafter spring practice rosters are already cemented in it makes it a very difficult thing for coaches to try to figure out how many got it safe even play with in the fall. Congratulations on the sinister last year in the bowl game and on top of that great recruiting class you brought and I look forward to the future visits talk about the guys you actually have playing for you this year. What plenty of time to do that. But in the meantime while your teams preparing for this coming season of hope you're hoping you're preparing some dance moves as well because it seems like you guys. You have a lot of wins this year. Thank you.I think I got a lot more work we do with our team has a long way to go with our team but not my lamp moves. Even my wife that embarrassing you need to get it either get better at it or quit doing it so that bad when her own wife tells you that the best thing for the bank – that is, Mack Brown, North Carolina head football coach on Twitter at coach Mack Brown and his team already beginning spring practice and arch is one of those best months where you have football in the headlines a little bit in the course around here college basketball is our primary focus up next. The most helpless place to be. As a sports man. This is the drive
