Now the enjoy my North Carolina head football coach Mack Brown who is just crushing it in recruiting right now. I mean, I don't know how he's doing it because everybody's isolated I'm not looking at 2021, for example, they have the number three recruiting class in the nation. According to 24 seven atop 20 recruiting class for the one he just brought in in 2020 and coach Brown. You gave a great answer to Paul find bomb yesterday about football coming up this fall so I'll let that sit and I just want to talk some ball because sports radio could be an escape for many and where it where planning and hoping there's football this fall, so I'll just acknowledge that on the front end but when you're talking about recruiting coach Brown when you see the beat the guys you need to bring into bring out the program where you wanted to be in Chapel Hill you got Clemson who is just as dominant power in your conference. It's in South Carolina adjacent to the guys that you're trying to bring it in this state.

Do you view them as the biggest competition in recruiting to get to where you want to go absolutely because Bebo" such a great job and not only are they the best program through the last number of years and the APC but they also played in the playoffs but also won the national championship and that's where we all want so all about their tracing clips on them that you can't be upset Clemson. You gotta be the best you can, but when you set your standard you get a seven really high and basically when you're talking about a program like them you're talking about a national championship type program so in recruiting we always say you win a national championship. It's not about another teen that are played.

Where does he fit in our formula on and off the field and Kenny went all the game and and that's what were trying to do a more fortunate this year Josh that there are so many great players in the state of North Carolina that that at a time where coaches can't really get out and travel a lot to see other people wait. We were way ahead with a lot of the junk out because we been recruiting them for over a year and I think that's what were doing so well, even with the delay. Because of the buyers, but this is a little different because they're in the same conference is you and also going after a lot of the same local kids I think about Simpson from Charlotte who you guys went after very heavily last year. He flipped last second to go to Clemson at the start of the early signing.

Also, when I look at your class or I think about Clemson I think about guys like Dexter Lawrence and think about guys like Tanner mused Eric Maclaine, KJ, Henry, all players who came from the state of North Carolina, who helped build Clemson into what they are today. Isn't it a little bit different when you consider just the proximity of that program. We were here before Timothy was getting a lot of players and climbed from getting about where Danny poured with the Clemson I think we have 14 guys on our team from North Carolina. Danny had 40 40 at that time we had to stop guys from going out of state. Penn State was coming in and getting players.

Virginia was coming in getting a lot of players especially up in the mountains so the biggest thing for Dan was we need to start getting in-state players. The stadium state whether it was for us to review first date away left quit letting always homegrown guys last night and and we we finally got that done.

And that's what were starting to do again and and I don't think there's any question the number one priority for us in recruiting has got to be the dominator on date.

If you can't win at home then it's very cold in my mind to go get somebody else's babble recognized very early on what you done in North Carolina. He was on the show last fall, and he said that's the coach I look at text Brown what he's doing. It reminds me a lot of the way we started to build things at Clemson I somebody who was a Texas unit happen.

And of course eight and ESPN analyst as well. What did download do specifically to take Clemson from being a respected college football program and turning it into a dominant perennial national title contender. The first thing you did that. He was very unselfish in doing that, and not only hard to get unable to keep up because I remember when he first got the job. He turned down that you raise after being the interim coach so he would get more money and that is making a tremendous amount of money maybe more than anybody else in college football but he earned any earned it by doing it the right way if you win that the money in all the facilities and everything picked care of itself in the 20 and the other thing that he himself is who you is not gonna change.

He's a good friend of mine and appreciate respectively.

The background with is not going to head football coach.

I love the last week you were live tweeting the 2006 Rose Bowl game and breaking down specific plays in looking at the things that were happening as we were all watching it when you want when you watch that game though. It's crazy to think it's almost 15 years, but what's the biggest difference between the game today.

Just the way that it way that it plays the style versus 2006. Don't think there's a lot of different very honest with over two offenses that were scored 50 points a game. They were very balanced. Probably if there is a big difference at the tempo that people are going with Mel. We were no huddle for that entire ballgame, but people are just going a bit faster than the little than they did before, but the offense that we ran that night is great. Similar to what what were seeing people run now and it was a spread offense with a little option, make them a little quarterback draw getting the ball to your pastor players in faith and things like that quick college football is right ever asked you this. How did you celebrate that night the national championship how how little sleep, did you get well. I got none of that with the we had a sweet that in Hollywood infantry 30 and it was a huge suite and we invited all of our staff and their families in our top boosters up to celebrate and administration, and I do remember I think I finally went to bed about 6 o'clock in the morning and was called a little bit later. I never went to sleep. Sally was asleep and President Bush called her cell and she said had any get my number you need understand that and then she said will presently talk to my uncut left with a brand-new.present so I love President Bush a dear friend person I really enjoyed and admired Pete that the coach you never know the best father never know the best husband you never know the best present but you have a measurement the best football team in college football. So congratulations and we need to get you guys to the White House as soon as we can. I know President Bush goes to bed early on in the game was really late only coast when it finished that's okay was present. I know you better let you be honest with yourself, walked in the game. He said when you went down about 12 at 642 left and went to bed. All and I couldn't sleep I got anxious I got back up and with three minutes left. I watch the Texas Longhorns when the national event. Then we had a great trip to the White House credible background with you also told the story on social media last week in order to get the players was you watched three straight episodes of Jerry Springer and brought that to the locker room thinking what other bad television guilty pleasure.

Television does background watch out. Right now I'm watching more than I like to admit what you did follow all over the place but I think the big thing is if their appetite. Go get them loose their loose you better get a little more focused and good job of the head coach you walk in that meeting are you watching the pregame meal you got to get a feel of your team and that pregame and halftime and then you gotta be able to say the appropriate thing that the game but pregame and halftime are so important that you have the feel of your team and that you put them in the right mindset. If you think they're not in that moment where they need to be. I think the 20/20 version of Jerry Springer.

Even though I think that shows still in the year might be the bachelor. So if you need when North Carolina goes to a national championship game either. This year the year after that.

Maybe you go to the locker room and and tell them hey, I'm not sure if we can trust Hannah Brown if she gives you a call probably walk to the bachelor so I have to admit that I have seen. I also want you to put I know you're just a big college football fan.

In addition to being the coach of the Tar Heels where you stand on to talk about low and Jonesboro as prospects of somebody who coached both. I mean, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and now you brought in Sam how who's one of the leading quarterbacks coming back in terms of touchdown passes when you watch those two at the national level what you think about number one quarterback. The only person of the ball every time in college football and offender gets rid of it.

Quarterback usually keep it for a while so he is the most valuable player. And your not when all the games at any level. Unless you've got a great quarterback I'm talking to a NFL coach who'd been out of the business for a while. A couple years ago you ever go back.

She said if I can be in charge of my team and I have a great quarterback. I'll do it. I'm not going back without a great quarterback and I think all of them. That position is so key and the truth is that what you're going to authentically Jonesboro was a 13 quarterback at Ohio State and hit lightning in a bottle at LSU in it and it worked for him to come then and really has Coetzee been changes offense for him because he they're both accurate in both bronze or both good leaders. About 15 level.

So I think it would just be in recruiting up over the years learned that you better take the one you like personally so that they're both really really good picture system. The best you like you really like you like you and and that's very very important in the recruiting process. How much do you think Sivan learned his toes by having the quarterback to his stature, because he never had that before you said he change things up anytime you are in coaching as long as I've been down in our a lot of different guys. The them through this thing for many many years. 37 years. What you have to do just to adapt to your personnel in the time and and we went from 80 HAPPY offense where were more balanced with Vince Young and and I'll forward it to change who we were attacked and we were of formation power NFL pie pocket and we went to the spread and I mean overnight to get bent Young in space and Cedric Benson and some of the other great players that we had at that time. I think that the most important thing for a coach as far as to teams or that he's able to adapt and you don't get into the Mockingbird that there's not a masking that there have to be asking that picture your talent massing for you not rule coming from the college ranks to the NFL what you think is going to be the biggest adjustment for somebody who's trying to make that leap.

I know you never made it.

But you see many coaches who have tried and had success in doing so. So what you think about the Carolina Panthers bringing in a college job number one allotment rule watching him for the occult games of state) at Baylor. In fact, that we were able to have our high school clinic this spring he was going to be our parlayed speaker so I am all in on Matt world of the person of the coach.

Secondly he coached in the so he has been a position coach in the NFL so he knows the structure he knows free agent. He knows the graph he knows a lot of different things that that someone like me going into that position would not know and would have to learn so I do think that Matt will do a great job in Charlotte and were lucky to have another date. Thank you so much for spending time in the triad today, coach Brown, it's appreciated your voice be well. Thank you, drive you to an end. I thanked all of people are working so hard out there that are right in the face of the virus in a well running from it because were told to our first responders are healthcare people are the heroes that are working really really hard. I was told yesterday by Dr. that we have to be careful that were greeting, was that man anything that were not able to do things right now that we like to do. We love been taken away from so make sure you take care yourself and one of the best way feel better about yourself. Try to do something nice for somebody else. So that's what Americans do trouble like think about who we can help.

Today the truly struggling and and and I will help a long run you the best times.

Thank you, thank you.
