WSJ S arts studio with us in a little bit. I'm sure will be talking about North Carolina bags to get some ACC baseball pop in here see how we use and that but speaking of Duke and North Carolina trying to be impossible here Gerald Henderson's now joining the show. Former Charlotte hornet. Obviously, a Duke basketball great and Gerald. I have paired you for this, but I'm going to try and have a 1015 minute conversation with you without asking you about Tyler Hansbrough's bloodied face. How do you feel about that legendary that never came up. Art will see if were able to do it. Coach K.

He said earlier this week that guys who play for him have to not only be comfortable playing in front of hostile crowds, but also enjoy it so that all sounds good in theory but you've been through it only is it possible you can enjoy playing in a game like this more in Chapel Hill than playing at home all the guy know the environment and captivating manner really is on camera new than it is going into the game and playing against 20 and 20,000 people will know HQ for back though we may have friends there. You may have other grandmother go against people you know that for a long time hated the blue on your prayer and you felt when you play with likely I love it you know about Connor environment. The play in. We got me: the player, you know, interface dwelling one. Did you have friendships with any of the Carolina guys when you were in school. There I did. I did my best friend Wayne Ellington while in high school with all the same time so often a lot of time over there between the southern bigger than they are ending a lot of time already.

One thing I would lean other guys on the team and Danny Green against each other in MBA data in Portland on a couple other guys know, and below about TOGETHER a few years back so you know that a lot of connection with Carolina guys also more than willing to play with installing your my good friends and while the guys over there despite all our overall hatred for auto recognition towers name just not your name, just not his name. Your name your elbow implied in the same sentence. We just can't have all that together. Gerald Henderson is with this year on WSJ sports. So if you hang out on campus with Wayne where the rubber pickup games going over there after Mark for nearly 1 or two times using the summer time all the cards that we didn't actually do it or know about all that but kept it on our own and had a facility that we use the training workout and will do so just plain amongst ourselves a list. We actually didn't work so close to each other and the competition offers me so now you know now you think that's probably out of the picture out of the question. Maybe you only play limited pickup in the summertime now. Anyway, getting her and there's so much more to it now. Your in the league and you have teammates or Duke or Carolina guys and the two Carolina games being played and let's say you don't have a game that day. You guys get together and watch it yeah yeah like yeah you will want to do. Can Carolina play when you're in the NBA. You have Marvin William Hall as a teammate and you have other guys went absolutely, absolutely. On the not been played for eight years and so many inmates along the way you plan somebody in your body on your team thought about it on a dollar bet automatic without the we forget about the game or playing on the same night, and without watching you your own adapter that but then absolutely watch games or go out allotted for Mike Rivers shot the river shot you were in the league what you remember about that one.

That one all our friends who are willing hang out with at the time and we were watching it might help and UNC and you know he probably meant we had a bunch of money on that game can even one on that last shot man on the lockout years you will love their children at home nothing to do that shot was unbelievable. Did you ever let Austin know about them when you're playing in the league of the garden you off of the good Man did let them know that at any given any commission on Gerald… Zero WSJ sports strange. Do you imagine it's going to be to see your former teammate running the team next year and not seeing Coach K on the bench all know you guys are, always wondered for a long time and I'm sure the basketball world as well, and talk about you than before I went to school there and the many things happen, but with such a big deal because of Coach K you know I couldn't be more excited to see John in opposition and taking on all pretty big pastor pretty big job, but I think he's up for the challenge, you gonna nobody to me better for the position within the love of the game emerged in your incredible amount of encroaching on the recruiter only got you take that into the position you have a great underneath them with Camille Jefferson came on this year New Orleans thinkers parallel and the great great energy man nothing more than anything there in touch with all the younger and younger group of kids coming in and started here with the know number one coding class that always felt you want to start a new job so I'm looking forward to everybody that you can still you imagine if you were in this game tomorrow.

Gerald B and Coach K's last time at the Smith Center. You would have the thought of trying to win this game for culture is that not something you're thinking about.

I think it has been specialty through it. I think that naloxone are not making it about Coach K but like all the hidden side of the culture, whatever, but certainly not in the locker room and I thought about that at all like that, let me know you better.

Even with you and see you know I'm not even we don't care about the other thing about even the UNC record that all I know the coaches could name one player on the you know what I think you focus on what they're doing in the game tomorrow you will know I'm not on the roller coaster but you know, regardless of who they plan on their team again tomorrow. I plan to be there and I'm really looking forward to lots of hope to see you at the Smith Center tomorrow. Have you started to look into someway somehow you're going to get into the game at Cameron on March 5, God willing, I will be there.

There you think I can make that game all should be text in a call and I figured woman met Jerry already. The other every player in their software anybody on our target delivery can do about it all to get away with with all uncorked at the moment later years, so click format on that live just yet.

You are beloved UCF just yet something and I'll talk to the Dawkins and he says he's not. Tom also Johnny Dawkins is a being, I don't know how much would you be willing to spend to get into that game. I want to know how much is too much know about number you got a number.

I got a really nice television so I all the special night we got to do perspective of the two Carolina rivalry with Gerald Henderson joining us earlier and now the Carolina end of it are gradual berries with this now Greensboro swarm legend Joel Barry 20 just back on in the triad. Joel, it's been a while man how you been enjoying doing stuff in the media now joining the dark side right right now so yeah it is been great. I've been enjoying it quite a bit ACC network. You can watch Joel from time to time.

When's the next summer to see you on our televisions.

I was hoping I would be able to be no in Chapel Hill, but I will be on ACC network on Saturday from 3 to 7 and in the 10 o'clock show nothing but net that's exciting stuff. And that means you get the break things down from an objective perspective. So let me ask you this.

How should North Carolina approach defending Paolo like what you think they're going to do. Yeah all you know try to give quite a few players were. We had to keep two men in front and I think I believe that's what they will have to do all I believe.

I mean, he's great going towards the ramming. He has a full head of steam it hard to stop mummies 16 to 50. That's a lot having to stop to go to the basket. So I think the one thing that they will have to do is keep two bodies and make him pass the ball out honestly just make him force him into shooting shot something you're thinking, keep him the shooting jumpshot on some of the possessions, not all possession, possession. I think I can all play right into the Carolina. How do you think Hubert uses Nikki black tomorrow afternoon on it hard on me. He's been effectively.

I think you been playing better and I think that has helped the team all and you don't want him to get in foul trouble, I believe he will probably want to see him start on a day Griffin, all because he had just been playing a really good for duking it.

Body where you don't follow me Carol. You need somebody with them with some size on him and being able to stop him going to the basket so maybe illegally leaking will start on a day Griffin on but you know he can be just like you just come in so many ways still vary with the serum WS TS sports, as you know, there are different ways to skin the cat in terms of how the coach so everybody's can add their own flavor to the things as you watch North Carolina. What are some of the different approaches you've noticed about a Hubert led Tar Heel team versus what you experienced firsthand with Coach Williams different dynamic.

How did you think and how do you all think we are really all it was the ball downloading. Don't get me wrong, coach coach David does that but are always started with wanting to get the ball downloading wanting to establish standard play from the inside out on now with the team that they have no is totally different with the God stepping out really didn't have any for me and that could shoot from the house on and you know they allow Bay cottage.

The father's will.

So that was very different and also to just A rebounding is not as common with the team just because of this.

All things that they do have what you notice similarities there wanted to push the ball play fair on and get up and down the court will you feel you use good faith on the coach we see a lot of Coach Davis and what he is change so vary with the seer on W SJS sports. There were some sad news today in the Tar Heel basketball family where Linda Woods passed away known to be the mother of Carolina basketball in the Carolina family. I think she worked for North Carolina dating back to Phil Ford playing point guard in 1977 and it was cool is I was down on the floor level last Saturday.

I didn't know she was this this poorly off right now.

From a health perspective and she was at the NC State game sheet she wanted to be there with the 82 team B and honored in all of that just speaks to how much he loved on a basketball. She finished up working in the basketball office right as you were arriving, but what can you tell us about Linda Woods how important she is in that building will you go out in really I really don't know the history behind it so I don't want it going at all or any so all you how to get a chance to meet her and really into right, we heard that was before my time. Okay I understand. Yeah I am said just wanted the pass it along to anyone listening who understands what that might mean Joe berries with the seer so I wanted also link that to last Saturday. How cool was it for you when you're in the studio and at a CCN watching Roy Williams get recognized and a banner gets hung was kind of awkward last year when you he retires and you can't really be next to him and it was on April Fools' Day.

His last home game. It was like 25% capacity against Duke. So last Saturday kind of felt like a real farewell for Coach Williams in front of everybody. What was the highlight of it for you.

One starting off with a history of Carolina.

You know the legacy that 82 team meeting Michael Jordan James worthy to God on their all you know that was just beer recognize you know that that's recognizing the history of Carolina and you know is me walking to Jim and Jim or I did walk in the gym every day.

You know, just it was hard to miss the banners of their and you know so that was that was special and obviously Coach Williams special place in my heart. God gave me a chance to play at a school that always dreamed of and all the relationship that we set out deals with him went out there you know it just went beyond basketball.

Some of the things that I do today and how I conduct myself on being on time, making sure that optional went up each and every day being the best that I can be the things that he still denies being a Carolina so for him to be recognize you know that you know it's amazing and the way that he went out.

I know a lot of people. If the path a lot of people prod me but one thing that I can say is that he retitle my birthday. I will always remember that. So all but yeah just an amazing coach has done so much, not only for the ACC but you know for college basketball as a whole so yeah it was great to be able to see just that history that was getting on the court pulled up bilberry with the seer. Your birthday is April 1 so tell me, walk me through your birthday that day you wake up. We got the news at 10 AM, when did you get the news and how would you describe that that yeah so I was actually in Turkey all in my feet and think like seven hours ahead. I want to say so I get a call from Sean made an he's like on yeah I just want to let you know all coaches retiring today and I was like what I know and I know is April cool. I like everybody loves to play jokes on April cool and next thing you know the news came out and I was shocked and I did you know I couldn't believe it. I me I can believe it, because you know me you didn't to a point where it was just a lot. All you know you done a lot, but again, but then I started getting text messages from other people in all media are asking me this joke today, and unlike light notice is real. All yeah is retired so it was a pretty crazy day because a lot of people just thought it was fate yet there's no doubt the Presley's at 10 AM and immediately I text her and like curse was the deal and cursed told me after the fact that he got over 100 of the same text messages. Is this a joke and he always responded to each one. Say no this is not a joke in the press release, like at the bottom of the press release it to the by the way, this is not an April fools joke bilberry right right now. I wish they would've done that so I can't help but ask notes easy Roy Williams. His banner goes up last Saturday you've got a banner up there in the Smith Center. I was there when that happened, where does that rank now that your basketball career is now turned into a media career in terms of your on floor achievements. Having that banner go up, what, where does that rank in terms of things that happened to you yet all that desktop. I mean, it doesn't know national championship Bob for all was one of my accomplishments that I wanted to have all and so it parted reason why my jersey is up there it because of the national chairmanship so all but you know it, it just means so much and it all started. Honestly, when we played in Maui, when I first got out one of my jersey to be of God told myself, have my jersey up there and I wanted a national championship but it was also to Hawaii to players that I looked ugly all looked up to. When I was playing all when I was watching, often writing the felony may have your names on the MPP live on in the in the gym and I was like you know I'm not those of the guys that I look up to those of the guys that that that you not pay homage to it.

Just what I was what I was doing and what not all mark appearing so you have my jersey up there all you need to be with those type of point guard to be with the type of people that are out there in the rafters on me. It doesn't get any better than that and the one moment that I can't wait for is for my little daughter for me in my life and take our daughter and her name my name on and let her see my jersey hanging in the bracket that will be the moment that would be special to me and it's going to be well-earned so I look forward to when that happens as well. Jill fully let go though so he's it's his final visit visit to the Smith Center. It's crazy to think like Once upon a time have before even Coach Lebo, Jeff Lebo arrived on campus like the sky was coaching games against Michael Jordan Carmichael going back to 1980 when you think of this rivalry, like you before you even became a Tar Heel. It was North Carolina versus Duke and you knew Duke was good to be really good because a Coach K Carolina was to be really good because with the exception of a few years.

It was because of Dean Smith or Roy Williams so what what should North Carolina do we get it you don't like that other shade of blue, but I think there's some respect there that there might it might be wanted to do something, or at least acknowledge what Coach K is meant to the rivalry.

What you think. Yeah, all you know one thing.

Coach Williams always told her this was, you know, respect your competition, you don't have to like you don't have to be friends with them.

What you do with spectrum and I think that's the type of mentality that we all should have okay you missing out his last year we might all have our differences with you not being on the Carolina side of being on the Duke but the one thing about greatness that you never you never let that go without acknowledging it, and he had done so much for all. Just like Coach Williams have done so much for the ACC have done so much for college basketball and it's crazy to think like you really think about how long Coach K had been a Duke is mind blowing. So I think that you know I believe if it was me with the mentality of paying respect what he had done on what he has brought to the rivalry as a coach.

They are all part of it and he's part of it and saw you know there's no telling what will happen but you know if it was me.

I love respect you don't have a respectful greatness regardless of the competition and I just believe that should be the approach on Saturday. I'm with you on that you and I agree. I don't know if you give a gift or something. I don't even has a sense of humor maybe show up with some just for men or so but like an icy hot is back or something. I don't know. I don't know yeah I don't I don't know. I know coach David when it comes down to their type of therapy really put a lot of thought into it what it would it be so apprised if it was something pretty special to look forward to tomorrow and if you want to get home as I know so many are going to make sure you and I own bilberry to his coverage. Pretty and post and of course with nothing but net
