Three. Wonderful job. Thank you so much for finding that music force good morning this is Bill Mixon, a regular on Robbie Gilmore's a Christian car guy show Robbie is that the mescaline journey boot camp this morning and they're going to be talking to you later, but he's asked me to come in and fill in for him. This Saturday morning and it is a pleasure. Thank you for tuning in, please check out the webpage at www.christiancarguyshow.com and it's a call-in show. We would love to hear from you at 336-8960. Not 08303368960830 will be talking about camp and in the high Canon travel and in parks and wilderness areas and fun places to go. So if you had a chance to talk to some of your dearest friends today and you wanted to tell them about some wonderful place you went you would recommend others would like you to call in and tell us about one of those trips where we should consider going with got Kim and Adria Faulkner hear other old-timers venting with me before their some of my favorite friends in the world just say hello hello there hello, thank you for coming and I've got Shane over here who's a friend of ours and he does an awful lot of really neat wonderful traveling and camping and hiking with his family, say good morning Sir good morning of rotting is great to be here to talk about hiking. One of my current passions is visiting our areas in the state, the federal wilderness areas. I just absolutely love to get up to Linville Gorge. I discovered another place called Grayson Highlands at almost exactly the same distance from eight to go. There is Linville Gorge. Strangely enough, the three totally different ways to go there and it's almost exactly the same distance on each one. Also, we have pilot Mountain and hang in rock in our area which one of our friends is loves a little bit more than the rest of us what we you want to start with that. They rightly hello Clint hello pilot Mountain yeah and this is kind of a funny story I was training with a friend of mine to hike in Ireland and we decided to do one of the more rigorous trails that it was about the fallen have been raining and there was some rocks and I as I was walking slipped fun and outcropping of rocks and fell down and I sprained my ankle and dislocated my elbow. It was extremely painful. I couldn't get out. Well, luckily there happened to be EMT training going on so I ended up having 20 EMTs at my assistance in and had to be carted out so I am out. Was it your most favorite trick. That was it that we do not, but it made a great story you have been up there before. Other than that one trip. Oh, absolutely.

I love pilot Monette. I've been back since Emma didn't scare me off Adria, have you been up to about two I have an instant beautiful view when you get to the top. I love it, especially this time.

Even the trees are unchanged.

It is absolutely gorgeous up there. They've got a moderate trail that goes around the knob itself and the got a much more strenuous trail that goes around, but the neatest thing is every time I go there people out there doing repelling and rockclimbing notes. One of my favorite places to take just say a couple hours and get away and go do some hiking that if there's an area that that you listeners love to go to would love to hear from you. It 336-896-0830.

Give us a call or the 800-number is 866-348-7884 866-34-TRUTH 87884 Shane Nick give done. What's your favorite place to go hiking when the family wants to get out. My Favorite Pl. in North Carolina. It's a bit west of here. At some black balsam knob is the knob and it shining Rock wilderness area and its out where also cold Mountain, which supposedly that big cold mountain must be cold mountain is what I heard. Maybe it's tremendous, but it was great about it. It's a knob up about 5000 feet elevation and there's no trees are better so you can see in all directions.

Just the Valley. You can see out kind of over Asheville could dispel 30 miles southwest of Asheville and it's an easy quick hike up to the knob. It's about a quarter-mile moderately uphill on the new you can even camp up there which I've done a couple times which is great because you see this hours the sky opened up at night and you can just see the sunset sunrise in all directions good. You can see everywhere and there just also a lot of great hiking in general, not just the knob but various trails in that area. So that's my number one spot is that close to the Lake lure. I don't know or like LaRose I will Lake lure sort of south of Asheville and it's one of my favorite places to take my girlfriend, my wife and I just love getting up to Lake lure they will tour around ash will so that sounds like that much it in really really really will not understand. You also do grandfather I've seen some of your pictures from Watauga view over up on top of grandfather Mountain.

All right, grandfather, rounds another great place to go.

You got right now there's two ways to get up there you can fork over the $20 per person and drive most of the way, which is a very nice easy way to get up there you can also park kinda north of grandfather Mountain and take a pretty steep long hike up to the top a bit strenuous. I did the hike earlier this summer. Lots of raucous, strenuous but great views were to get up there and in a way because it is so hard to get up there and makes it all the more rewarding when you're up there rock.

Hey, I did this and you just so great about yourself Kim you were talking about grandfather Mountain at if you I'm sorry hang in rock thing and I mentioned some trips. Everything in rock.

Yeah, we host an exchange student for 10 days, every summer and one of the trips we normally take is up to the Boone area and this year we decided to go to blowing rock and behind just did some moderate kind of hiking around there just as she could see the mountains and see the views of the mountains and then the following weekend. We actually went out to the Outer Banks and kinda just walked the dunes and the beaches and in that sound that was. It was nice you got to see both sides of North Carolina on is what I wanted her to experience think it's any horses there. They were hiding yet would you been doing that have the years. Now host and somebody from country about six years now that's a really neat neat thing today to open your house up and Carter Moran this year. The girl is from England but we've done Estonia and which is funny because the church that we belong to. Did a lot of missions in Estonia and they just come back from a trip and they they had a whole slideshow when we took her to church so it's a really really cool actually. Can she recognize a lot of the places in in the pictures. Adria was your some of your favorite places to go find you online.

Not even like the town that's right there's adorable and I left my neck but also I like luckily I love Cory part beautiful even see the city clearly from an anti-nice little chance that she can walk around sound Great Plains of the picnic that got that sort of like a bridge structure that you can go out and be right over the top of the quarry in the lake and sort of interesting, say, the city did a great job at that part, but it needs a little more shade but don't know which.

At the bottom of the block. The all cosmic lot be a good place to go scuba you on some exercise, walk down the hill and then look back. Has anybody than to hang in rock years again, but it's been a while been hanging off like yeah have you done the trails around. Hang in rock. Our helmets are great kind of within our drive place to go. My favorite probably within an hour drive place to go. There's lots of trilogy can go up on hanging rock itself and or you can take the trail to I guess you called an observation tower yeah it's a loop and you can see everything up there and is actually the observation tower trial, not by hanging rock itself. This my favorite arm try to do on hanging rock a bit of talk yet at a 30 people that have been up there and hiked all over. Most of them have never heard about that that fire tower were observation tower because you got a good hike up the road into the campground you get up to it so it's not really on a lot of people's radar screen, this one of the most awesome views this side of the Linville Gorge in November were call-in show with, there's a place you love the guy would love you to call Lynn at 866-348-7884. Thank you for list and will be right back awesome. Thank you so much Keith for coming up with that music. Somebody texted me during the break and she said that I needed to make sure I clarified that my girlfriend and my wife are the same person. So Jodi Abba let everybody know that I was referring to you both times we were weak and you are talking about.

We should talk about what all long counters we've had while we were hiking at that that would be fine. Grayson Highlands will hear.

We've got Debbie, let's see if we can get Debian if I can do this the right where I tell you what Keith, can you put Debian for me so I don't mess up Debbie are you there Debbie.

Debbie, can you hear us. Hey, welcome. Thank you so much for colony and did you have a particular place you wanted to talk about their our department or under contract of any County area near Brevard who are looking forward. A fantastic plate hike and got my hundred and I went to number four I could afford a getaway and we hike seven different waterfalls in the area and you got at strenuous hiking right got moderate trail hiking or easy trail and it is wonderful and very family friendly bike friendly great place to get away and I highly recommend if you have lived in North Carolina and had never been to Transylvania County.

You are missing out on something you the one thing about that part of the state is almost impossible to get lost and in-depth dear you've got to sit out with a purpose to get threats of the Gaelic but absolutely gorgeous. Remembering the hot college way back when there were some wonderful places to go up there and slide on there were some rivers and waterfalls that I don't remember where the slides were that you could Gideon art.

Does that ring a bell high that we did not. We heard about a sliding rock that we didn't go in and that at on hardware. There was so much. Maybe over 85 waterfall 85 life out there that I'd like to try to visit as many as possible that we did not get that you are correct, we get a fine pointing to that as we work entering into Brevard.

Well, I should let anyplace else you'd like to share with us what I heard y'all talk about hanging rock and high mountain, and no dirty favorite for our theater for a daytime getaway go there and really enjoy that greener hand down and get a good workout and time with no I'm enjoying listening to your story about thank you so much for colony and you were a real blessing. You have a wonderful weekend and I buy I discovered one of the neatest things I just there's something called the hiking project at and you can download the hiking project app on your phone and then it it will list all the different trails in the state and if you want to go to one particular area, you can blow it up and you can drill down to the foot pass on any of the different trails and it will tell you with the most wonderful views are with the waterfalls are it will tell you how far things are and then you can you can hit all the trails in that particular area and it is on its far better than a map or compass, except if you lose your phone reception so I just want to recommend if you use it. Make sure you got a backup system but it is neat to go to the hiking project. You can put it on the computer you put it on the phone, but if I want to go do some hiking. I'll pull it up and I'll use that to try to figure out which part of the state of where I want to go in drill down on deal be all kinds reviews of the trails that start guide. Use if one start, one trails got four stars on it and expected to be a little bit more exciting than the one we, too, but that's a neat app to look at sure you cheer another place you would love to go shopping another place. This is another great one because within two hours Winston-Salem. We kind of hinted about it. Will Linville Gorge and there's just a lot of variety out there a lot of you can go down to the river a very strenuous hike in the wilderness and Ridge inducements. Richard deeded it to a real tough one.

The one that Ms. may not make much sense, but one of the parking lot just south of the cabin and then you want down to the river and stay on and that's a steep one drive, so that's not a soul and easy day hike but there's plenty of easy that there's an easy one called Spence Ridge which is like you're heading up to Hawks Bill and right before Hawks Bill.

There's a place to depart and it is a really nice a lot like hanging rock or pilot Mountain all the way down the whole time you going to and you say this is the nicest hike in the world to you realize you gotta come back up that same trail, but it is when you get down into limbo Gorge. Of all of yeah and another great placement Linville Gorge.

If you go up table rock on its moderately steep and only about a mile the trail you go up and there is kind of a hidden gem.

If you looking at surprise me can look out and see Charlotte and I actually didn't know that when I went up there and I was just out there looking around you, Scripture, like think that Charlotte like candy Winston-Salem that's too big a skyline is going Charlotte and on. That was a great surprise for me because I didn't expect that at all but is a great view up there and also for great view.

That's a really easy high Wiseman view it's on the west side of the gorge. Now don't take the road there with a Toyota Corolla.

I know from experience, if you been up in the last month I went actually three yes three weeks ago, there was one root that was so deep I couldn't get the well I went and luckily my parents were in town for a race going to take my dad's truck. I tried to gather my Corolla before got stock and it cost me probably an extra 34 miles of walking on the road so don't take a car but it's an easy quarter mile paved paved trail, not steep, overlooks the whole Gorge just a beautiful view. AE is handicap accessible and it all. Yes, that is, it is asphalt on the trail and not very steep. Now, on the other side where you went. If you went up to the parking lot where table rock is and then you took the trail to table rock. Had he gone the other direction before I have not been on the other direction would blow your mind. Maybe it is also we want our listeners to call Lynn 866-34-TRUTH 87884 tell us what we should go check out next tell us about one of your favorite places, give us a rank tell you the music he just does a first-class job force. We were talking about some of the places we just love to go. Would love to have some calls call in it. 866-34-TRUTH 87884. There's a place you just think a few other.we don't want everybody to show up, get make it crowded that there's a place you want a few other people to go see that is absolutely gorgeous. Would love for you to call in and share Adria.

We were talking about new River Grange in West Virginia all.

It's really high out and beautiful in the really pretty and if you got out a sigh and you just trying to do this is really pretty waterfall and lands either in cans running around swimming and a lot of fun and was a beautiful long ago we do is that in the summer.

Wonderful. That sounds like a neat place that you were going to tell us a little bit about the new new River new River Gorge in Beckley West Virginia that was one of my favorite hikes. Actually there was a lot to do kind hiked along the river there is there's a real moderate trail that was there and I think after we hiked the trail. We ended up doing like we got on a jet boat and it took a symphony bridge and that was a lot of fun to mention Grayson Highlands at times it's in Virginia it's a go up to Sparta. Most of the time when I go up there's a big park and you go through the park and sometimes are some ponies right where you you put your car and sometimes you gotta hike a couple miles to get up to where the trails are there always ponies.

They are, or you can do what I do is I go around to the backside of the park and there's a place called scales and there's a really really you've got have a four-wheel-drive something that you don't care about too much to go up. It's about 5 miles and you get to the trailhead and the Appalachian Trail comes right through this area and there is a really basic there's an outhouse that when I say out house. My wife turns off.

I actually got her to go up and see this not too long ago and got her to do a little bit of hiking, but there's is fenced in great big fenced and I bet it's a couple acres where you can go up and set up a camp, then the trails there are just the most breathtaking, unbelievable trails and if you go up that way. It's not too terribly steep and you can go up and get on the Appalachian Trail and their wild ponies and there's longhorn steer, I got a picture of a longhorn steer about 3 feet from my wife that is just breathtaking to there's some horses up there so you walk in and your your hike in right through a herd of longhorn steer which I've got to say really unnerved me one time is a little bit more concerning than bumping into a bear, but there are some places that you can get on the top and 360° of absolute wilderness that is breathtaking. So if you looking for a really neat hike. There's a rather simple, easy, gentle hike on one side and then the other side you can drive up and find just the most wonderful place to spend the day Shane will what's another place you really like to go to another moderately close place to have some easy day hiking is out near Boone. The Moses Cone Memorial Park and Moses Cone Manor.

There is a lot of again easy trails, well-maintained not to steep. There's one that you can walk up I gravel path members. An observation tower up there that overlooks Boone overlooks upstate.

That's an easy, gentle hike up there. There is little bitty hikes little trails around a few different just small lakes and ponds that are beautiful and what's great is you can target intraday trip with Verne go out there hike in the morning go to Boone to hang out go to Ben for lunch and then come back and I love doing that in the middle of summer because it's always a good 10 to 15° colder out there escape the heat here.

Go for a hike there in the coal and got Boone for the day and then come back if you looking for a neat neat thing to do for a weekend right close to Grayson national Grayson State Park. There's a place called Grayson Gen. store and over the general store. I think he's got three rooms that are extremely reasonable, so one time I wanted to do three days a hike in the house trying to decide whether to sleep on the ground in a tent or I found this GM booked a room and it's really really nice room extremely reasonable and you right there at the park so I got three days of hiking again and based it right out of his is little facility there. So go online and pull up Grayson Gen. store and see if that something you might be interested in Kim you were going to say was can ask Shane arm turn to take a hike somewhere. I can't remember the name of it out near Boone and I just just taken aback by the rhododendron and and all the floor that was there was so beautiful the flowers were everywhere.

Rhododendron is a very big word and only know about me you lost me.

As I said that word and I started thinking about turned out beautiful. The rhododendron wire took me a few seconds to realize that sunflower actually thought it was a terrain she is running the rhododendron look like in heaven Azalea. I guess if you know what they look like Daphne of her to call Daphne but they can be bright pink and red.

They can be white. They can be 8 feet tall they can be 12 feet tall. Just remember there being a lot of of flowers and butterflies everywhere and I was wondering if it was that same part is it think that was the name of I don't know I flowers around and there were a lot of flowers and butterflies and, pastors also.

We all forest there some cows that can actually have a pretty fearsome cows that graze in this field that overlooks the valley and you see, cows grazing in a valley and mountains is going pretty like that.

Yeah that's done mountains everybody been to Stone Mountain that we talked about going one time you you have ever been up to Stone Mountain.

Now I didn't. I think we did discuss maybe hiking up there it's it's a neat little trip. It's after I've done hanging rock after I've done pilot Mountain after I've done all these other hikes. It's still a really nice hike and that if you wanted to spend a couple days that got some really great trails I haven't made it to the waterfalls always try to hike up, but they got some awesome views. It's up around Elkin and it did say really, if you're in North Carolina it's a really neat place to go in and spend a day and to do some hiking in the city they got a lot of dear and I've got one one hike I went up a bit.

I solve 20 different gear roaming around but it's a beautiful little part what he done on the Outer Banks. You've done some stuff down at the Kitty Hawk. We did Kitty Hawk see what else and then then of course I wanted to see the horses that that was really wiped chose Corolla but they I guess they're allusive that I've been on patient name. Maybe what you remember about Kitty Hawk did you go to keep it okay now she was in Cincinnati that time.

I think I know the last time I went, which was a long time ago. They had a narrated told the story of the Wright brothers and I mean it was spec vascular. I've seen it a couple times online, but the.

The narration with the plane right behind it was just breathtaking and then to stand there and look and say well this is where they figured out how to have controlled flight was right in our state.

The other neat thing I remember was we were standing at the beach and I bet they're worth 3035 porpoises that were right in the role of the waves. I mean they were covered right up the moved all these fishtail that is a gorgeous area to take a road trip from that park all the way down to Ocracoke is just gorgeous llamas Melinda Ocracoke. I have not, but we did go pretty far down but not as far one of the things I that we had fun doing. We went out at night and there is a little white crabs.

They actually you could pay for a walk to go look for them but they were everywhere so I think he could do it for free.

Shane is there another place that pops to mind another place I mentioned in the it's a bit of a further drive. Probably too far for a date or about 4 Hour Dr. got people everywhere so it might be right down the street for your living right down the street from this pleasure living on the word. It's max point. It's on the North Carolina Tennessee border pretty easy to get to you take I 40 W. and exit 70 North Carolina thing.

The last eggs until Jesus live into you get lost pretty much just drive on forward internally in the thick of the mountains and take exit 7 take up pretty rough dirt road about 10 miles. The takes are probably an hour to drive and the Appalachian Trail goes through like sedatives. The Tennessee North Carolina border you can camp up there. 360 Views Great Pl. to go but will have to talk about that just a little bit more after the break we want to thank you for tuning the end and hope you'll stay for the break-in. Call 866-348-7884. Thank you, will be what you love your slick what a wonderful job. Adrian was talking with some of her favorite places to go in Greensboro with got some neat neat spots. I know I love to go over there some wonderful parks of their and you mentioned the nature science center sign. Thanks, really great. They have life interactive science exhibits and signing it and then on nothing cleans dinosaur. On health science anything and then on when you want to the right may have an aquarium in Lincoln like tensioning the reasons I like that you got some animals you and they have a ropes course thinking to you over this evening and you can see on animals from clubs that's really cool. That is, the Guilford County Courthouse.

Is that right in the same areas got to be close.

You know, I don't know one of the most important battles in the Revolutionary war was in North Carolina in Greensboro.

That's neat place, and someday I want to try and do a bit better job of going to the reenactments of the Revolutionary war, but one of the places I like to go when I'm in Greensboro is over the courthouse. The where the battle was what were to use some of your favorite places to go around well in effort on my Greensboro near friendly center there is a part of the tanker family park. It's it's absolutely beautiful. Dave just redone it. They put out old mill there and and I think is a boardwalk. I have yet to do that.

But there's a boardwalk over there as well where you can walk through some I guess some wetlands and it's right near the friendly center. It's right in that area and it is gorgeous yet one place at one place I've been to that was really neat up on the Parkway up near Mount airy is the music Center. Have any of you been up to that the country music Center to pull them up on the webpage most days still have 810 1220 players and they will be playing live country music.

I've been up there just got so engrossed you three hours just disappeared. Listening to limits one will start hidden for five notes and then the next one will committed. I'm not sure if there had been the same place at a three or four will come if this like they all agree with there good to play up and then the whole group will start player edits the whole time he real old time music it. It's a really wonderful day trip in our area. Shane what what some of the places that you'd recommend people to check out in the next month.

Well, one of the places around talk about have is probably the most well-known place in North Carolina, Tennessee, just the Smoky Mountains. There is hundreds of miles of trails of all variety little day hike trails, backpacking trails and was great about it is a lot of the areas is fairly crowded, but you get on some of the side trails and you're going to see anybody that's a great feature of it. I think there is other multiple times or showers enjoy others are threatening when you're out by yourself 5 miles from anywhere and you see a bear on and another quick kind of reminder, I'll point out there's actually a few great old rickety fire towers out better on the North Carolina side of the Smoky Mountains and never pass up a chance to hike to an old fire tower and climb onto because they're great views of their and there's also the thrill of you don't know if this thing is going to collapse or not you'll be swaying a bit of their God just, peaceful, and great years. Given my history, I'm just can stay off make sure you health insurance and life insurance is paid you a member the name of the trail or the name of the trailhead I do not want level. One of them is down by Fontana Lake in North Carolina. There is another one really in North Carolina you park the trailhead just off I 40 easy to get to hiking project at the hype hiking project webpage really will encourage you to pull it up and look at it it I could find what you looking at without much trouble with that app you in Winston-Salem with got the nature science center, it's absolutely gorgeous with got old Salem is a really good way to spend a day, what, what, where else would we send somebody in our part of the letters I would say that if they haven't experienced the new quarry park. They should check that out that it really is a done a great I have to say I was very impressed with what the city did out there is like a a long bridge were you with no end. One sides closed off at you right over the top of this quarry run over the top of like the acid that that's a neat little view from up there apps and you stand there and you look can you send it like if I jumped in. There's no way I could get out.

It is sort of odd that there's not to be any boating or scuba diving in the little not sure on the other side. Don't think you go back and enter know how you how deep it is and what was going to fall in Adria, can you think of another another neat place monthly founding is lazy five ranch on 2 Hour Dr. from Winston-Salem by schooling Drive. Do you have the bike in animals like the right to your car in its sense of fun experience for share. I haven't even heard about that before the near cornmeal. He is Mooresville area. Not exactly in the what's it called again lately.

Not every lazy five ranch and put that on my bucket.

We had ham cow ostriches no meaning paying draft. It's really cool right now your car can drive through or you can take a you get on the wagon yeah, and they'll still pull you through.

If you're worried about lung. Here's dear, we had an experience it that my brother was driving his little Janice and in this long steered Allie came up and started banging his head all over the car and try to get his head into the wind down to eat the fish he was having a mini heart attack has everybody done the aquariums down the North Carolina coast with got for five really also have aquariums on the coast will a few down the coast.

Look it up. Check check amount of their well worth the three or four hour visit to take it something else that Jenny and I evidently were really bored one day and there was with got this river in our area where somebody had wanted to put a dam up and there's a museum in Mount Airy that is absolutely awesome.

It was amazing. We think about going and would say it couldn't possibly spend more than an hour there.

One day we just broke down when it had lunch across the street and then we went across the street that we spent four hours as absolutely one of the neatest museums I might have to go back this weekend up they can about it was 70 well I'll encourage you to get off your you know what it's sizes and get out of your your homes and plotted wonderful place to go take the family take a friend if you don't have hiking boots find some old shoes and then go get you some hiking boots sticks.

I don't know if the rest of you found hiking poles, but I tell I didn't think I could do it anymore without my hiking poles go to Walmart get you some real inexpensive. I think I paid nine dollars for the last beer I got I got a pair for my wife as she does so much better with those hiking poles get you some hiking poles and go somewhere my file. You got me some yeah I will you you best friend ruins were your favorite places to go hiking you gotta fix something to keep her safe from then on wheel love that you tuned in, we hope you'll tune that we got a show coming up where it was going to stay and would love you to stay for that ship.
