This is that the Adam goals you have financial advisory through capital financial USA.com. This is the Adam Gold show wonderful world it doesn't get any more wonderful but everyone's day at 1 o'clock when we are joined by Chip Patterson CBSSports.com moderator of the cover three podcast best stop for you when you want to hear about college football college boards to Patterson. Is there what's up my friend.

Thank you very much for the ringing ringing endorsement of Gov. not catch and within a draft season kind of just just a lot of drafting and so I feel like were providing a unique opportunity for people to jump on board and get a feel for what were up to five real real quick because I got I can't talk about because I have nothing about it but your drafting coaches as recruiters know is this just head coaches are weed your drafting position coaches who also happen to be good recruiters because I follow recruiting like I do needlepoint so which is to say, I don't so to explain to me with what this is that the coach draft is the brainchild of now Vanderbilt general manager Barton Simmons. Finally my cohost on the podcast right sixth round draft you have to fill out your roster with one head coach one offense of coordinator one defense of coordinator three wildcard pics Nick Sabin was number you first round first overall pick. That's not a huge surprise, but we had a position coach go second because of some of the game theory involved and there's a lot of good head coaches and so what's fun is that you can decide that you want to go with the recruiter but you could also go with somebody who is more notable for their player development you the sum of the line coaches at Kentucky, for example.

Great play in the trenches under Mark stoops and so Mark stoops didn't get picked one of his assistants did a lot of Ohio State went before Ryan day did so it's a little bit of fun within the context of the second-round draft of fun within the context of building out a staff and the fiction that were playing is that we drafted these teams with quarterbacks pass catchers often sublime and defensive lineman running backs and linebackers.

So now we need coaches to lead them and so that's what we been doing over the last two weeks side so to Patterson is with us as he is every Wednesday cover three podcast moderator CBSSports.com if it leads me into the first thing in order to talk about anyway. So in this new era of an IL and collectives. How has the recruiting rankings. How is the recruiting prowess changed. Has it been altered significantly based on the new wild wild West and South and East.

It is too early to tell. For the 2023 cycle but I can say that looking back at the 2022 cycle that just closed in February. Not much notable you know Texas A&M and you know the allegations of what that collective was able to do to pull in what 24 seven.

Sports is deemed the highest rated recruiting class of all time, but Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State. The players at the top are still the players at the top though of the big jumps I think are necessarily even coming from the in IL specific angles or the collective specific angles. There are more about the coach hirings or the coach firings were coaching changes been made. For example Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame was doing a very good job as one of the lead recruiters or Brian Kelly Frank used to go to LSU and guess what their names cost and fall apart infected stayed strong in Notre Dame's class in the coming year is very, very strong. I don't think that's an in IL powered move. I think that's that says more about Marcus Freeman says more about Al Washington, a great defensive line coach.

He hired away from Ohio State, Tommy Rees, the offense of coordinator who reportedly turned down the opportunity to go be an offense of court Nader for Brian Kelly at LSU and so it's more about you know that the staff that we have in place for the most part the schools that have always been good at recruiting have always had the best resources in those schools that have the best resources to be able to activate the collectives in the in IL opportunities. I don't see it changing the landscape in a dramatic way like I entertained the idea maybe two years ago that an IL would've allowed for a big shakeup in the recruiting world. I have not seen that so far. And again, we are only about a cycle and 1/2 process, but doubtless I even like the top quarterbacks in the upcoming recruiting class you you think about the guys that would demand multi million dollars potentially are $1 million a year something like that. They are committed to know Alabama. They are committed to Tennessee there committed to US CME. They are suitable so that the same places that you might expect of the distance, a Tennessee so we'll get to that in a minute with very good collective resonate they do like see, here's the way I look at the.

The collectives so were going to have years where A&M is top class or Tennessee but we want to go back that far to see that the University of Mississippi had the that one of the top recruiting classes out of freaking nowhere and that of course was made ended up being. They treated now we don't have to cheat to do these things.

We have brought all of that aboveboard which I'm in favor of and I'm good with it. I hope out of nowhere, South Carolina.

I just honestly just picked the school at a random.

I hope the school like South Carolina one year boom. It all hits the end IL collective comes forward and all of a sudden the gamecocks have the best recruiting pleasantly fruit through this because there's a couple ways I want to go but I want to get back to Marcus Freeman with him to Marcus Freeman issues here.

One is Freeman versus his old boss Brian Kelly is now in Elrod you and the other will get to in a second set it aside. But Freeman had something to say about Ohio State, which is since kind of retracted, but we can't on here it and truth is truth but has Notre Dame in a way I don't mean to disparage Brian Kelly Notre Dame in a way freed itself from Brian Kelly and Mike this be the coach to take them even further. I think they Brian Kelly knew that. I think that Brian Kelly knew that Marcus Freeman was going to be able to lead Notre Dame into the next generation. My feeling is that when Marcus Freeman was hired to join Brian Kelly staff Jack for bricked the athletic director Brian Kelly, the head football coach all kind of viewed him as a successor, which is why when Brian Kelly left for LSU in Notre Dame was caught off a little bit off guard. Notre Dame could go to the open market in the me they could've gone to talk to Ludovic could've gone to talk to you know some of the topical some of the top coaches and in college or pro because it is the Notre Dame fighting Irish football program but they stuck with the plan that I think that they initially envisioned was maybe a couple years away, but they stuck with the plan of having Marcus Freeman note lead this group into the next generation.

So yes, without a doubt. I think that Brian Kelly would even say that based on his age unit. Based on his experience as a player and has a high level player you mentioned Ohio State. He played at Ohio State know he has that ability to connect with the modern player in a way that a lot of head coaches and certainly not Brian Kelly at this point in his career was able to do so, and especially keep in Tommy Rees's uniform Notre Dame quarterback. Some of the sapphires that he's been able to make. He is reshaping the Notre Dame football program in terms of the way that he's able to go into rooms and the way he's able to recruit and they just got Lloyd Carr's grandson Notre Dame, but they got Lloyd call oh all the Beauchamp battle, and that you want to do. There is no way I would've ever printed.

Lloyd Carr put on a Notre Dame hat and that's what Marcus Freeman is like he is truly changing the profile of what Notre Dame is when he goes into Celica high school prospects and that is the number one way to close the gap because Brian Kelly got so frustrated that he thought they did everything that they could do 2012 and 2018 in 2020. He had teams that were playing at a high level they were experiencing the on their games and they got to the college football playoff in the got pranced by teams of better players right thousand 12. It was in the national temperature game against Alabama in 2018.

It was in the semifinal against Clemson and into thousand 20 was in the semifinal against Alabama.

All three of those teams won the national championship were the best team that season. There is nothing inherently disappointing about losing that game, but we all stood on the outside is sexy Notre Dame noise trip over themselves. Brian Kelly literally was purple in the face like their players a better can't do anything about it. So to close the gap with the rest college football.

You got to get better players must. Marcus Freeman is trying to do.

Look but we get all this stuff to cover three podcast. I mean it's the best right so more about Marcus Freeman so he came out and said the other day about Ohio State means they can't take them on, online classes. Keep your appointments boom you got a program I mean I know he took it back but none of that works. We already heard it and it's probably not untrue. What we know about Ohio State as somebody who would've gone to Ohio State. They accepted me. We know what it was all about. They make freshman year really hard and then the rest of it is kind of a breeze. So certainly good. They weed everybody out when they admitted they just gonna make it easy for you but what that what that say what what were your thoughts on what Marcus Freeman had to say about Ohio State. Do you or Joe OBS.

Have the copyrights on no crap exclusive Joe it's Joe's name is a more academically challenging university than Ohio State. You don't have exclusive head is a is a not historically but is operating at a higher level as a football program, the Notre Dame of exclusive.

I guess just there are. They are so different. I think that's what Marcus Freeman is pointing out his the what we are introducing to our players is a smaller university, you are going to have to of these classes. The way that academics are valued all throughout your career is different than what it is at this massive university.

I went to a massive university not to cook up online classes right happened to work out. I was waiting tables and also I was struggling a little better academically.

Some of the online classes helped some of that structure, but that's my problem. I think that for Mark for Freeman to be pointing out that the academic rigors on a day-to-day basis are very different Notre Dame than they are at a massive state school like Ohio State is just so plainly obvious. I didn't think it was that controversial. What I agree with you, and sometimes the truth hurts. It hurt.

It hurt. I guess it hurt Ohio State, but I don't think it matters and I don't think it really impacts is on her and said his clarifying statement Marcus Freeman as he walked back as you mentioned, I I don't know why you think you be in the media that I would disparage my alma mater.I believe it when he says that he is calling it like he sees it and experienced it, and it's different than Notre Dame academically does, it does not controversial to me here is that the thing about.

I've always said this about you. Like Myron role member was environmental who wrote scholars now had a doctor and would like we were reintroduced to him during the pandemic. When every's news and sports outlet was having a this guy played football at Florida State. Here's a guy think he came out of New Jersey like from a central New Jersey and people like that's exactly the kind of player that would go to a Duke or Stanford Florida State wants great football players and they want smart players to so like I thought. I do believe that does make a difference where you go to school. If you're smart it'll show mean and if you're not there are places you can go that will kind of help you out.

Keep you eligible and keep on the wealthy, but there's a lot of smart people everywhere, and Ohio State.

I'm sure has a lot of really smart football players. I just don't know the art. Let's remove on what one more thing before we are before we take a break is arch Manning to commit or did I miss it you did you would listen that what you what is this could be over you. I will eat all the coaches want to have their top prospects, especially a quarterback on their word. They want to have this locked up before they turn their attention to the fall. You who doesn't have any leverage all the coaches arch Manning okay Alabama already took another quarterback right in the T-3 cycle and still had arch on campus this past weekend hadn't posted not taken the photos and all of the deer are things going to calm down once some of these official visits do end up wrapping up. Yes, like you, you do have a limit on the number of officials that you can go to take the unofficially he's been to Georgia six or seven times.

Unofficially he's been to Alabama for five times but once the official visit season sorta wraps up for arch, then it may be a little bit further down your radar.

But to me he can't II imagine that he is going to draw this thing out as long as he and Cooper because they honestly can and there are so few time in there so few times in the lifespan of an athlete. Less now that we were sort of moving into BNI Alera. But when you actually have leverage over a college football coach. I think the Manning's probably know that there knowledge of the way football works size there taken their time right now and they are enjoying the process and I have no inkling of, I've tapped into so many different potential avenues of information, including most recently somebody who's got a bay house down and like the Bay of like on the Mississippi coast line bay house near cookbook to try if they know what's going on and I got nothing married no clue what it's going to be if it you can bar bets it's it's a Texas it's a Georgia it's in Alabama you know, maybe Georgia, maybe Texas, depends on where where they end up deciding that Manning's going to be able to go and have the right combination of development playing time and access to the NFL. Somebody should hire David cut Cliff and just get this over with hardship.

I commit to the SEC office we come back. I would ask you one. One more football thing and then we gotta do some U.S. Open pics and as I mentioned earlier, no talk about other okay U.S. Open were not were not going to put a black cloud over what's going on at Brooklyn chip and I will talk about examine the Brooks just just for Brooks Kappa next I will hear from my man coach Pete the router with the capital financial advisory group. We are talking retirement. I coach simple. When we start tax planning and retirement should start as soon as possible because there's one thing Adam Texas are not going away and so the game here is we know the rules what people want to ignore the rules or act like they don't are familiar with them, but virus those rules and so we get retirement.

The region start taking some of their money out of your accounts so the secret here is to put a force field around as much as possible.

By strategically moving some Romani to Roth IRA were some of the other vehicles that are taxed like a special life insurance policies can borrow against your money there and never have to pay tax on you wanted to build up inside your Space up there a lot of strategies here. One strategy that does not work is ignoring mature and not ignored the next 10 people will do for you your very own tax and retirement plan help you minimize taxation with retirement 800-661-7383. All you got is call or you can text Adam to 21000 for coach Pete the road last night, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for there is only about 86 when I think that this page. Not bad. It never got as hot as it could've been yesterday. Object Patterson stayed indoors yesterday. It was supposed to be 100, but I know it didn't get there to got like 93 Standard Edition some Monday after pickup we we did Plato and then Tuesday after pickup we went to Wegmans to go to multiple passes by the train and the lobsters so like if you see somebody ping-pong with the two-year-old between the train and the lobsters there and back ends.

That's, that's me. We used to go to the pet stores and just let them look at the fish and like the lizards that was that was a big deal that was a big builders that was entertainment man at anything he could do to kill 30 minutes was was it was just everything everything you what recently were go to the park were: Walt, we are very very outside for our post pick up predinner activities and so when that's the hottest part of the day in yet heated is very creative. There's no question about it. All right, let me real quick as you. You floated this and I don't want to spend too much time on it, but maybe we can export even more next week. As you floated this out on a cover three podcast to Patterson about.

I think to maybe three weeks ago and I've always argued that it should be the case, what would the draft to be like what the next draft be like if the National Football League got rid of the three year rule. We had to be out of high school for three years. Is it possible like if they just got rid of it entirely. It would be nuts. But even if they reduced it to two years.

It would be crazy because you finish your redshirt freshman year and now you're eligible. What would the draft be like. I think that we would see a couple of first-round picks be true. Underclassmen every single season and I think that number would get smaller across the second and third round that the idea of this being that the only players who would make that jump. The truly special ones and those would be the ones that everyone would be fighting for those of you want everyone would be pining for the other thing is, I think it would be very positional specific. You just aren't going to have an NFL team draft an offense of lineman before they are more physically development anything of defense of lineman because in the NFL. No one has the kind of runway or job security at the front office level that you do in the NBA. We can't do this NBA draft kind of projection and analysis were we are drafting you believing that 3 to 4 years will be heading your peak.

You just can't do that in the game of football. So I think it would be wide receivers, defensive backs and quarterbacks because almost every other position is so physically demanding that it is just not incentivized unless you are very very unique athlete for an NFL team tried to draft a 19 or 20-year-old Adrian Peterson would've been a very high draft pick.

After his freshman year. This like we we spent a lot of time talking on Ohio State racecar at critical Gero no question and actually he challenged it a try to win. He's he's a very good advocate for college athletes right now. All right, let's get to the U.S. Open and again not mentioning that other tour because I'm going to respect Brooks Kappa and that peak, the media's putting a black cloud. I would argue that they're not but there date dealing with the news of the day alright so let's just open up who you got to camp Smith I would take a Scotty Scheffler to let others is a couple things that are lining up for me. Number one the absolute silliest reason silliest reason like that is I'm looking for Thursday afternoon. Number 10 Friday morning number one. Looking for the wave that is going to get Thursday morning Thursday afternoon Friday morning okay but not just that your Thursdays can be a little choppy start on 10 then you come back one through nine. When you approach it. On Friday you got to see it and turn it tournament conditions you taken all your notes you major adjustments you get to attack Friday first thing in the morning one through 18 the same way you will on the weekend that is my very silly way to start off narrowing the entire field into just one of the four ways that silly as much as it's sort of strategic I'm really Thursday afternoon number 10 Friday morning number one there is a group in that Thursday afternoon number 10. That includes Brooks Kappa camp Smith Scotty Scheffler. I don't think Brooks is going to win it. I might take Brooks at the top 10 lock, you know, I might look at lock recordings of the history should only got beaten by four players. The last four U.S. Open. I do wonder if he's got the goods to win and I would not select that, but came Smith and Scotty Scheffler now.

Aside from the you identify the wave they continue to fall into the one thing that is very popular talk about, but I still think important, which is what you can do around the green. We have the second smallest screens and major chain him to pick very likely will have a Brookline. I am looking in my pics to find somebody that is going to be able to get scores when greens are missed. Scotty Scheffler doesn't have as much of a red flag as camp Smith does when it comes to driving accuracy as camp Smith. Boy he can spray it, but I do think that the rest of his game on approach and around the greens and putting it sharp enough that you know he might take some big scores but will also go and get you the birdies now is again it feels a little talk about two of the top seven names on the odds were right now to players that were going down the wire when it comes to the Masters but the U.S. Open doesn't have bad winners U.S. Open frequently has golfers that are stars that are at the top of their game and you will get the Gary Woodland, which by the way, like played out of his mind, and Brooks Kappa was right there you will get Martin Clymer, who just ascended to a different transcendental plane was in Pinehurst in 2014. My least favorite U.S. Open ever not not know if it's the Martin timer had nothing to do with him, but I just just noncompetitive, but all the other ones in the last decade have been like stud winners and so right now, to the best golfers in the world over the first took from the beginning of the calendar year till now. Scotty Scheffler came Smith up an absolutely phenomenal and so either one of those two is kinda what I'm looking for the winter. The other obsolete if Justin Thomas wins.

I would not be surprised all he's been phenomenal.

That's my friend Kyle Porter's pick, but you know there there are the ones that I think fit that good around the green profile Joaquin Neiman, loan payment loan around gate around the green profile Xander Shockley's favorite U.S. Open good around the green game and were documenting that other tour but one of the most interesting names from that other tour is also a top five player on the PGA Tour. I guess these. He's kind of on the PGA Tour is not a player in terms of around the green. That would be Taylor Gooch. So those are all sort of fitting that profile of what can you do around the greens because with the small greens.

I think you can have to have have some game in order to win this thing. Rory McElroy around the greens is one of the best on the PGA Tour is very good yes and he showed that in Canada chipping in nearly chipping in twice me he was just tremendous.

He had that little hick up kinda late on the back nine world. All of a sudden he started missing short putts, which is always good to be there for Rory. I actually think that him getting the getting over the hump. The first round hump in at Southern Hills matters to getting off to a good start. I think tomorrow he plays early. He's 10 and one buddy plays early and late which I guess it is early on Thursday late on Friday. I don't know if it matters sometimes I think it does some time to mature, but I like the fact that he plays just like the fact that he's playing well and I hate to be an apologist as I am in like a complete I'm in the bag for Rory McElroy wanted to stop the drought like nothing would be cool I will and currently Rory McElroy to win this and if it's not him. I wanted to be John room so so those are the two guys I'm focusing on, but I have I've written down, more Cal who mean off the T very very accurate. Would you gotta be in the fairways here and is a great iron player is not an amazing partner. You don't have to be an amazing player to win majors yet to be able to just have to put the balls in the right spot and I like shuffling to like neither of those guys have a great years. So it's kind of like if they were having better years there odds would be better, but maybe the value is even better. More Cal is a +3300 to wit like the so wear you out with Jordan speak because he's a fascinating figure to look at in the context of this championship because he's pretty good on approach pretty good around the green will spray it and put himself in some awful positions.

But if you are looking at a course that you have to plot your way around kids like him I don't like him for like Jordan. He can play well anywhere so mean I won't be surprised if Jordan speak has a chance to win but if were talking about man, you gotta be here, then you gotta be here.

You can't be there. I don't like Jordan does not like Jordan speak chances to get out of there right oh yeah so I keep he gets there.

And then he's going to end up taken and eight because everything else can fall off the wheel yeah you look the open championship 21 when he made bogey from the driving range notwithstanding being that was just phenomenal. But that was like at the height of the Jordan's beef wizardry and how Jordan's beef is one of the best players but he hasn't set himself as to be like a top-five guy try to like Jordan speak chances but again the mean is a great player but I am I'm going on board with Rory McElroy to go back to back in terms of wins and get his fifth major and I do what is good to say after that because he's already ahead of that other guy will buy you give me a Justin Thomas Rory dual again. Yeah, they're fun and out of luck. I will want John Rahman. There also got John. John is a great player hasn't had a great year but look the audio of his response. Yes response to what Roger Patterson is and is probably no Lane upset on Twitter. He said this is the clip that will go in the document. Yes, I saw that when I when you when you want to hear what I think.

I do think a lot of people who love golf. Think about the situation. I have seen from a wide wide range of personalities publicly public personalities who might not agree on lots of other stuff. John Ron's take on this is seems to be unifying the log offense.

The love below from the wise plan.

I love you know what his motivation is in a very similar Rory there there here to carve their names on mantels and that's what it's about. That's what it should be about to Patterson you the best my friend foam on on Twitter@Chip_Patterson you got that right. I don't know I just volume I don't even know what the particulars are covered three podcast go check that out you get cool stuff there, sir.

Talk to you next week sounds good you'll be well. June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak of figuring it out on the fly became 25th anniversary of the move presented by the Carolina listen to me, believe the third minute of their World Cup qualifier in cutter against New Zealand.

I had them mine is a goal and 1/2. They did not score the rest of the way they won one melted to accomplish their mission, but posed me in the process of their United States in a mud bath finished 11 with El Salvador so that didn't work out well in Christian publicity actually tweeted out a photo of just his socks and cleats they got to the game rate was on instrument either way. Just mud brown. This is what those are all ruined so they'll get others. I'm sure anyway. I went over there yesterday Dennis did pick up a win and he had a no contest because one soda was not in the lineup for Washington so that's no blood so you're you're doing well. You're almost your your inside of -1500 I am is an accomplished over the last week and have a plus thousand you got on board with that as of the right time. You may not be over 500 but you would be the high stock low.

I'm because I go for so many people hundred like long odds.

I had on a few so it looks great. I'm gonna live off the Jerry Kelly winning the that senior event outright for a while but it's working right.

Let's make that I Tampa Bay give me Tampa Bay +135 of the Apple tonight just straight up game night like it actually like Colorado in the opener. But here's the thing I've been wrong about that before, so I appreciate you go with the with the plus money, lightning +160 to win the series. I wrote this down yesterday. I wanted to do yesterday but I'm just doing it now. +160 to win the series essentially to meet is going to come down to goaltending under a vessel of ski versus whoever Colorado throws and goal in the matter of his Darcy Kemper apostle Francis, I'll take Andre vessel of ski +160 Tampa to win the series that I like those that actually I will go with my second that Juan Soto home Ron +425 give it to me yesterday was +600 today. It was 425 of five because it employed yesterday.

Maybe he's rested. I get exactly good. Good for you. Appreciate you sticking with it like you did with Joey Otani have worked out well.

Eventually it comes through all right, let's let's get the U.S. Open starts tomorrow. Dennis, let's throw some U.S. Open bets that you Shelley give me John Rahman is your winter.

Oh, 1600 John Rahman is your winter it +1600.

I'm also to go U.S. Open will sell a Taurus top 10+330.

I like it I like the outdoors type dinner +330 I'm good to go. Cory Connors, I would. I did last week I had Connors to top 10 and or top five, actually at the Canadian open. He ended up finishing seventh but I he wasn't. He almost didn't make the cut. So he rallied the back door top top 10 in the Cory Connors to top 10+375 okay then we that's all we trump all I want is what I I've got to me about all I got a blood is better of a major to major championship week. Well I'm going to go after. Below it was ours but we never sponsor today. OT Street bridge again. Please rephrase the sponsor yes, but we did that window that truck get dislodged.

I don't know… Still there B that it's not because actually drove through there yesterday at about 630 on the truck was going to the truck was gone. Josh Jane was still there.

The shame of it all. How to worship those sponsored by the P St. bridge yet claiming claim he lives not live claiming trucks locks claiming trucks since whatever I give you a more future better here get bonus here that carrier of the water dogs since the chrome this weekend.

Zachary are right, +145 for over 2 1/2 points across.

You think he'll deliver. I think it will actually courier yes Zachary are these is one of the bills all delivered orders.

You will okay again I got all right hey what will you do something in the hockey game tonight right yeah right so let's pick in any time. Goal score JT comfort at +325 for the avalanche you, like Brandon Hagel of the lightning at +360 as well, but will go JT comfort at +325. Much fun we could have if this was illegal in the state.

Yeah, I mean, we're not breaking the law because people understand at this point that were just it's just units.

None of this. I kinda wish that it was my own monies in some plus like nearly 3000 yeah I'm glad it's not my will see exactly Dennis is the example of why why you're glad it's not legal. I am the example of when you have half a years worth of I don't know, for already, so I am a Emily soccer clinics in suffragette go to we would have most of them paid for book do we know if the House Judiciary Committee took it up yesterday. We had a find out to find out just it's a major story and it impact everybody in our state who doesn't have access to the to the two casinos in Cherokee where you can wager that we should all be able to pick up our phones and do something on beaming the thing you can do when you just had across the state line in the Virginia exactly when the Virginia this weekend that you go you place a bet for us I could.

Virginia this is the atom gold shell June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became fifth anniversary of the moon, presented by the Carolina listen
