This is the gold show where the processor doesn't hurt you select the doctors getting some sort of superhero tattoo on his forearm. He's also shockingly easy to do that and he'll be in tomorrow morning will all look at the colors audit and you let superior about this is the gold shell I shave those throat all always as an adult, shockingly, go figure. Show actually listen to that yesterday as it went off one of the best of podcasts. Okay, I did made me laugh. I was chuckling my my wife on FireWire 11 Mike minimize eyes. I said something that made me laugh and joke it as a getaway day. It's Friday.

First front of the Memorial Memorial. What day is it July 4 weekend. We have three days off for sort will be here for the best of them goes on Monday. We won't physically be but you know what you know we shouldn't do today.

We should waste a lot of time I met him go. That's Dennis Cox really tell you all about, all other things but my gosh there is so much news at the beginning of the week. I wasn't sure what we were to talk about. I didn't want to spend all week talking about live golf your sick and tired of because you care about golf right for its next is also sick and tired of you don't care about and that's fine. You not supposed to care about. I care about it, but I am sort of sick sick of talking about it because it seems like it's the same conversation we really need that we need the college sports world blowing up so we got it. So let's go. I mean really happening. The implosion of college football traditions, a cataclysmic run of NBA player unrest and well over a billion free-agent dollars doled out.

Nothing else is going on so many issues tied to yesterday's bombshell that Southern Callan UCLA are headed to the Big Ten. It will make your head spin with the pack. 12 survive. I don't think so will the big is the Big Ten done making moves. I don't think so, how did this happen so quickly.

Adam Rittenberg of ESPN on how cold it really celebrated here will be to Big Ten what that is thoroughly pursuing new members, but that USC UCLA looked at their positions in the past 12 and currently the financial realities of being behind the big cat in the defeat and wanted to be part of it and hearing college athletics for a while that it's trending towards to super common just because there's going to be such a big revenue gap between those in the Big Ten and the FTC and everybody out USC out which of the top branded college football UCLA which is I would say so. AAA resident Brandon and athletics. I wanted to be part of it and now they're going to be so this is UCLA and use USC selling themselves to the Big Ten and nobody should be surprised that this is the way it went down so how can the ABCC respond if the ACC cannot and it's probably more likely that they can't what happens to the 14 members can the grant of rights. Save the league for those people don't understand what that is. Grant of rights means that all schools have signed away their meteorites to the conference now. What this means is if you decide to try to leave your future meteorites within the framework of the existing contract with the ACC which is I think until 2036 actually belongs to the ACC.

It's not a current number. It's a future number will find out if it's ironclad. We will if grant of rights can't save the league. What happens can the ACC and teams can they convince Notre Dame going to have to if they can't in the ACC goes the way of the Edsel.

What is it mean for UNC estate for Duke for week Clemson Miami Florida state all the schools that need to compete at the highest level of college football. It's already a bit of a challenge when the league this league is doling out about $35 million in shared media revenue and the SEC is doling out $20 million more per school and this is before the SEC deal with ESPN kicks in. This is before we go to the Big Ten there about to renegotiate their deal. Oh my gosh I said before, I thought the Big Ten was always going to go ahead of the SEC I thought the Big Ten was going to pass the SEC in terms of revenue now. Yes, as we have the second biggest media market I think. I think that we are headed for in excess of $100 million a year per school goodness that's where I think we are headed in the ACC just doesn't have any room to go unless they convince Notre Dame and others to come along with them like it. We don't have enough time to get it. All the other things would have to pick it up as we go along because there's other news going on. Meanwhile, all is quiet in the NBA free agency and when I say all quiet. I really mean leaning against the speakers at a class concert in 1983 quiet, which happened to me not quiet. That is not quiet although I wasn't feeling anything so didn't really matter.

I guess Kevin Durant has demanded trade from the Brooklyn Nets. That's right Tyree Irving opted in and what that really means is it's about to get blown up. Kevin Durant now wants outburst bullet left, he signed a deal somewhere on the new matter where Denver I think Kevin Durant is demanded trade. Brian went north of ESPN on some potentials, so the upgrade would be part of the package that would also include graphics. This that the parameters that John Marx talked about beginning of this whole process when they basically set this Domino's emotion.

They wanted available players were selfless and team first.

The sons have those types of players, specifically Mikael bridges his contract at 6 o'clock flips over to be with $20 million, which makes them easier to be part of a trade package I cam Johnson a Landry sham and they've also I had in in their organization before they've a lot of options to trade where they wouldn't have to touch Devon Booker Chris Paul. Other could potentially entice Brooklyn yet.

Devon Booker can't get traded now because Devon Booker just signed a max deal.

But yes, Durrant wants to go to Phoenix. Tyree wants to go to LA by the way, I don't know what's going to happen, but here's Stephen a Smith on Durrant's wishes. Either way you slice it. Kevin Durrant when we went healthy I believe is the best in the world and every team in the league will knock down the door to get him what he wants to be in Phoenix.

That's his number one choice right now and so if Phoenix can come up with the assets that will satisfy Sean walks. Kevin Durrant will be a Phoenix son, there's going to be so much man. The next two weeks in NBA news going to be like you like showcase showdown, spin the wheel that that that that that's what's can happen right Nicole, your pitch, Devon Booker, Carl Anthony towns each sign. Super Max deals to remain with their teams at your pitch is like five years up to 270 million Carl Anthony towns in the final year revealed to make like 62 1/2 million dollars. I can't think of a bigger waste of 62. Have million dollars but that's fine. Go get your go get the bag cat John Moran five years just shy of 200 million Bradley Beal stayed with the wizards okay little bit more than 250 million over five years.

I guess that'll get you to stay anywhere. Jaelyn Bronson going to get hundred and 10 million over four years from the next BJ Tucker's daughter Kelly is bananas.

I one more bit of news before our first guest of the day a great day for those of us who never walk alone a great day.

Most cell has signed an extension to remain with Liverpool. He was entering the final year of his contract. It was up basically a year from now, and there was speculation that he was going to move on.

But speculation is over most salad. We don't know the parameters we don't know what the wages are but I will bet you it is at least $500,000 a week. That's a lot of money. $500,000 a week. Awesome that's made more money is actually not quite name are money. Oh, nothing happened yesterday. Just the latest Domino and the potential upheaval of college sports really college football Dan Wetzel Yahoo sports national columnist, most of the college football acquire a great podcast. You should check out every single week. In fact, an episode dropped last night.

He and Pat 40 recorded it. I haven't even had a chance to get to it yet. Dan, there's been too much going on in my life.

What is southern cow and UCLA mean this for college sports in general.

Not a romantic to be a romantic. It's terrible right I mean college or going back is better when it's it's if you're just a general fan I get whatever the favored team and then your general fan. It's the circuit on hundred and 20 football it's rivalries all over the place games wall. The wall came back about 330. You want everyone to be relevant want you want to know Boise State Washington state or St. Peter's in basketball.

It makes it something other than the NBA, and you want to know that all over the country. All this going on and this was the most dramatic move to the creation of just two super conferences, the Big Ten and the SEC and everybody else being everybody else. The gutting of the league 12 1913 and all different sports that one. So many things that now you don't know that it there will be a pack 12 2025.

Everybody wants out everyone's looking for higher ground is not question the Big Ten and 14 from Natalie and everyone else jumped the big 12 over and that is not is not good, but right now there are two there is no more power five writing like that very big to an old trick to a point you made the first move.

That was great. You look like you know maybe whether that I don't how you whether this actually there is additional joining us here on the I guess Jim was misled when he looked into Kevin Warren's eyes last year. Alliances don't mean the same thing these days. Yeah, I mean now you know there's a reason we all reacted like that. Yeah and I don't know what you're thinking. George clear call for anybody else but when they created an alliance and we said was very contract we don't need a contract like you X the last 50 years believable.

I mean it will napalm each other for a dollar and yeah the alliance lasted coming in January January the ACC in the pack 12 o'clock college football that would guarantee them all but guaranteed an automatic bid in the post linked up with the Big Ten less than six months later. Backstab the pack 12 may put that out of it and there is when they go whenever my office created highly unlikely. There can be automatic. This ACC kicked the automatic bid away the pack 12 kicked it away. This thing was a golden tickets like preserve and they said no you don't. We've gotten alliance or were too strong week disaster of a move right now will be whatever the SEC in the Big Ten or every year they will get 3 to 48 at-large will get six or seven.

They can go to 12 they can each have their own working playoff Big Ten 14.0 SEC 14 playoff meet in the Super Bowl you could do that everybody's out giving access to that postseason, the Big East back in the day it doomed the big 12. The last time we did negotiations and it's likely to do the pack 12 ACC the time absolute disaster. If at very least you are sitting there today saying hey the next dozen years like 2038 we got guaranteed spot in the postseason and a cot of a billion-dollar postseason. Instead, they couldn't thank you. We don't want will try to were a little concerned about literally nothing and now they have no access, and no guarantee talk of a billion-dollar and they have zero power on. I think it's because there was a movie animal house was an honor said you blanked up you trusted us because here's the thing that that I always fall back on the thought defined the autonomy five conferences got together at the beginning of the pandemic right and like they have decided to not play and what they'd never get away and then the Big Ten came out and said no were shutting it down. Figuring that they were going to be the lead dog in all this ACC big 12 and SEC waited it out. They decided to play and from that point on, the trust was gone. Nobody trusted anybody.

So why the three legs and maybe Kevin Warren played this right like to go with whatever we want. So let's just do this and as soon as we can make a move.

We will so my question is what is the ACCs move in right why I don't write out a lot of dumb. You have not been the Association at the playoff lots of money for all you have right now, low-paying, relatively low pay television contract only positive is signed away their their media right 2030. So you're not really comfortable without but you know contracts are taking math and thinks about all you got his strength as we base our best programs were long way to go strong. You know you know you could try to go out and say, Oregon, Washington, Pemberton cow, you want to join the ACC. I know me hysterical. Call the Atlantic coast really well the Big Ten I come calling it a Big Ten Big Ten like Little Caesar Big Ten now is 20 grand to go and Atlantic Coast conference.

Yeah I don't know.

It's totally nuts right so route you have to be aggressive think aggressively and say look Notre Dame here okay were still the best mix of academic and athletics we could get Stanford you can know if you want to nerd out there, but induced and but we still got all that I mean I don't know.

That's about it. They've lost any seat at the table for the playoff lock any seat at the table for almost anything and they are prone to being picked apart at some point in the future and again they wouldn't. Probably USC and UCLA leaving this way if you like Oregon right now and you have an automatic playoff spot in the pack 12 sit there and go you know what this is terrible got a lot of money right Nike can make up the bridge like that San Diego State and Boise. We got automatic spot after the playoff -like and Xander have the right every year and limit access to everything. Why why why give a small Jesuit school in Spokane, Washington in the West Coast conference sign lottery pics every year because they think the final 14 and as long as you have that you have relevance and you can make up the other stuff but once you don't have relevance.

You are the AAC. You are the Sunbelt and at this point, you are now at the mercy of the other league saying we no longer have that easy route so the ACC. I don't know what the plan is. There are not a lot of attractive options. What they try to open up the ACC Pacific Northwest Charlotte deal for the ACC headquarters for all I want to go to San Francisco real estate's terrible incense disc of the pack 12 just gave up their offices because it cost too much, which I actually think is the right move. I say this for days. I drink the ACC offices could be in an RV and just go from school to school wherever Jim Phillips wakes up that's where ACC headquarters is were headed for.

I think Dan is like a super league where like if you've got.

If the premier league and La Liga were the only spots in European soccer. That's where were headed and I think were.were talking about 20 teams in each may be more maybe 24 teams in each.

Who knows, but it's no longer to terrible but yeah your old hold it all playoff champion right trophy to the Super Bowl. Why wouldn't the Big Ten and in the same thing when you put your 20 teams will be set up for with semifinal finals at the chapter game, but we have three rounds of playoff and we own the Super Bowl, and we have absolutely choked out everybody else that's where you're at. By botching this playoff deal and they botched it in and what like if you're sitting there at the Big Ten out other than out of the goodness of your heart. Why the heck would you do anything other than that hundred percent baby sitting there saying you'll picture the USFL chip in it is 410 like a greater diversity is that it is so mismanaged there's a lot of stuff they couldn't do anything about the pack 12 just can't have the fantastic that you get in the Midwest and the South, but there were things that could've done to slow this and I don't. I just don't understand why they look at that life preserver and just blew it back and now I guarantee you they re-voted on at playoff months ago. It would be everybody vote for somebody needs to check on the wall.

That's all I need to know the conference of chaplain that is a sad day in the Walton household. Check out the college football inquirer out on the web you get your podcast I will do that on my ride home tonight.

Dan Wetzel, I appreciate your time at Dan Wetzel on Twitter you the best man appreciate that you soon so you can just tell him Dan Wetzel's voice mean he says nobody is happy about this.

I think there are people who are happy about USC, UCLA mean, I think there are also people who are really in the Big Ten offices of them dipped and the 14 other Big Ten schools there happy about it.

Maryland look, I know Maryland is not ticketed well in Big Ten football but you know you know on the 15th and the 31st.

A check clears man mad my gosh the balance sheet looks awesome in College Park. Absolutely awesome College Park. It was a terrible move for the culture of their athletics but man the finances sure are working because they put themselves financial football, they had they had the desperately needed the money since you did it mean like I'm not casting any dispersions. I think Debbie did a great job at the University of Maryland, but they were in a financial problem and some of that is due to decisions that Debbie yell made that just didn't work out, not yells fall. I guess the fact that the football program stuck and they gave all made all of these moves to make Ralph region happy the football program went the other way sunk a lot of money – the naming rights thing on the basketball arena to they won't even I can money and Comcast or the naming rights so whole lot merely needed the money. They ditched 60 whatever that was years of culture and and relationships and blew it up. But they can make about $100 million in shared revenue.

It didn't work out for the marsh and already in sports media podcast is a regular stop for me not only because we give great information there but it's also a time where Andrew take shots at my friend John RN from the sports business Journal and he joins us on the gold show what you put up with with Andrew Marchand's constant barbs at your expense.

I don't even give him back. You do not like. It's it's a gift.

If people are interested in, especially now in an era of changing rights fees and the landscape with which streaming services you guys do an amazing job and I think you'll have a lot of fun. So what I want to talk you about a bunch of things that have nothing at all to do with college football but here we are. So let's start with college football because that's what this is about how you look at what's coming next. For the Big Ten. Now that USC and UCLA have left the pack 12 well, everybody I talked to said that this is not going to be the end. You can expect more schools to come out.

I know that there been schools that have been even before this announcement been through talking with the Big Ten about the ACC has a grant of rights all all of the schools I did the math and determining whether or not to grant rights enough to actually keep them or whether they want to go to what you know what's really becoming a power to between the SEC and the big 10 is a whole sense right now that it musical chairs started up again during the pack 12 over 12 years, you're looking around and I don't look Too strong a word, but not your certainly looking around me. I think the pack 12 is essentially dead me. I just don't know how they stood.

The two biggest pieces much like the big 12 and I've argued that the big 12 is dead look on. Houston's a big city and it's in Texas and Orlando is a big city and it's in Florida and Cincinnati is a city in Ohio, and that's all great but none of it adds up to Texas and then you throw in Oklahoma.

I think the big 12 is ultimately going to die to but I think the pack 12 because they're not done they don't have the grant of rights to worry about.

So what's keeping Oregon or Washington or or the Arizona schools what's keeping them there or if you are located on the other from the other side there from the Big Ten is already reaching into Los Angeles. Why would the Big Ten want to started what it has, by reaching out to get what is Arizona provide for the Big Ten organ nothing. They don't provide anything everybody sort at the drawing board to figure out how to work. I just think the pack 12 is ultimately going to die. Certainly they paid out around roughly $35 million per school that it's hard to see that number stay word is actually it might stay were discussed. Big 12's number didn't really move with their new conference affiliation, but that if it stays the same. It's really going down because here's where were I and I've been saying this about the Big Ten anyway because there the next league that is going to the negotiating table. Are they headed for nine figure payouts per school you know I haven't been able to break it down per school, but I can tell you that even before USC and UCLA were coming on board the Big Ten was was poised to become the very first college conference more than dollars per year and so that was already sitting pretty now they're sitting pretty or good adding the LA market there adding to high-quality teams with big brand and not record that that's going to eat UCLA and USC and valuing one of their big competitors networks going into the negotiations where they want to take 10 rights act, 12 that you could actually go and they had big brand like Stanford cow UCLA and USC now summer look in the pack 12. While that that's not what we thought it was now matching helped it up to the big 10 is well, especially since you said this at the beginning and this is what I've heard two were not done, the Big Ten is done at 16.

The way this is headed were probably getting closer to 20 and will talk about what the ACC but I do appreciate John RN you saying this isn't Rutgers you could have said this is Maryland, but that would've taken a shot at at our school, so I appreciate I appreciate you leaving the terrapins out of it. You know, since Maryland has joined the Big Ten the number the number of schools that want Big Ten titles in all sports.

Marilyn ranks number three Maryland. Maryland is officially in the Big Ten records.

I was talking about this yesterday get the news broke back after the show and somebody was asking me about, well, what about what about this. What about them like minutes. It's only about money, it's this is only about. It's only about money, it's only about TBI balls and it's only about football. It really is, and also it is. I mean, it is only about money, but it's also about control. I think what would you what you want to see what you're seeing here is that the SEC and the Big Ten are no leaks with the football programs are, operate on their own NCAA things and they're able to get control over that their officials are scheduling just pretty much everything is money of course is 1213 blank everything that aspect. That's a pretty big part of this as well. John around sports business Journal is joining us here on the gold so what is the ceiling for the ACC in terms of meteorites if they can convince Notre Dame to stay with the league and join for football and then at some other schools as well.

The ACC is kind it's working yet again. And those right are coming up at any time soon. I don't know off the top my head in wonder coming up that but I it's the middle of the 2030s, but Notre Dame is a full-time football member would would give them the right to go back to the negotiating table yet… There is no media contract that ever written with the college conference that doesn't doesn't visualize that it's going to be a mathematical formula works.

If you bring in Notre Dame. Full-time and you're going to get prorated what it probably doesn't even specify Notre Dame Notre Dame anything like if you lose two schools and you know that and we pay you less if you get to schools. I will tell you more. And there's a mathematical formula have to to get that done. This is nothing new. It feels like the whole college athletics or blowing up. Before so it's really nothing new for for media companies or conferences in this structure all their deal is. Is this move, which if were headed towards to super conferences and I am I'm here to agree with that idea that it's going to be the SEC or whatever it will be called in the Big Ten or whatever it will be called going forward with maybe 20 or so schools each. If were headed that way doesn't damage in any way.

Overall value of the college football playoff since word were so far limited to the number of schools that we would really have. I guess it really doesn't matter because were limited to the schools anyway. But if were really concentrating it in just 40 colleges around the country to damage the value in all, I don't. I don't think there's some really passionate college fans that will like this a lot around by Cincinnati in a war or Boise State from from the biggest will see what happens with Clemson champions can come from the SEC truck primarily yelling that not even the Big Ten so you know it's it's sort of a I don't I don't see that that hurting I see it helping. I think that if you just look at this, television standpoint, you get the biggest grant and get them playing each other regularly. That's what gets casual and build audiences and that that's what works you think it's not what I mean you don't think you know that she needed to seek a long time of the longtime traditions and rivals that they had to take a little while but the building and there can probably eight classes of students of going through Maryland that know nothing about the ACC down the road so somebody asked me if Marilyn would think about going back to the ACC and I'm like why they left they left Vermont oh they left money. They're not going back for even even less money. Now the real thing talking about a couple weeks ago. I just ask here as we close up major league soccer going to Apple and I'm sure curious.

I know you like the deal for major league soccer.

But I might, my wonder is that is this almost like a trial balloon for Apple to get involved in a lot of other sports.

There already in baseball. I haven't checked out an apple baseball game on Apple yet but is this kind of the first foray into Apple really being a major player and will we see more of what was that we saw them do the major league baseball as well. I think that this is a big deal for Apple. I think that there this is a little more than a test $250 million deals a little more than a test, but it's on their gonna have all of the rights to major league soccer going to figure out how to sell it. If you want to watch local team. You know you have to go to Apple no more local RSN that are chairing those games if you like soccer soccer not able over 20 years increase viewership on your television right away just for them to study okay. We can't do it on your television. We have it. If you listen anybody major league soccer. They say they have a young tech savvy audience. Let's see if the extreme. If you Apple results in more hard-core, but I think it a pretty good list to take money out of it.

I'm dying to see whether or not Apple kind of engagement that he gets from this site to go all the on all meeting on on and on and on Sunday ticket you know what sports streaming. That's the big question that I'll be following five years go all in on live golf as well. What major league soccer needs are more guys like Christian Bale willing to come over to major to MLS John RN sports business Journal. The Marchand and or and sports media podcast is a must appreciate times are good July 4 weekend. Leon and you know what market so give it back exactly.

Thank you. I mean seriously it's a great podcast which didn't know, and I think just about everything they discuss I think are things that people would care about.

If you're a sports fan how games are covered in all of that. Not not is not just dollars and cents, but were interested in media and it's very good podcast and yeah Andrew Marchand gives it to John RN every single self. This is the atom gold shell
