Is NC State going to be the odd school out? With USC & UCLA headed towards the Big Ten, could schools such as Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Clemson, Miami, and Florida State also be on the move to either the Big Ten or the SEC? Where does this leave NC State and Wake Forest? Joe Ovies of The OG on 99.9 The Fan and Chip Patterson of CBS Sports joined Adam for a Round Table discussion on the future of college sports.

Also, Harvest Leroy Smith, the person who beat out Michael Jordan for a spot on the varsity basketball team at E.A. Laney High School in Wilmington, NC, joined the show to talk about those days when he made the varsity team and Jordan did not.

Have financial capital financial. This is the gold shell. I was such a human being. Yesterday Dennis you didn't know this because you're busy getting Mr. miracle attitude on your right forearm was in your right forearm, correct jealousy look really lightweight, but didn't know.

So yesterday, Graham Hill top snooker player from Brighton was filling in and Jovi us basically just guided them through it and I was such a bad human being that I did not give Joe his flowers for doing that because healing on the air yes is like Dante being here today and Joe you are good enough to do that. So yeah, I'm I really felt bad about it so why salute you deserve the deserved recognition thing think it was a workday ended up in a workday form yesterday. My only requirement yesterday in terms work as I got to be out here in the afternoon as my dad's last day at IBM/Lenovo somebody to drive him home for something as you like that. My dad started working at IBM at age 20 and Boca Raton, Florida that got us up your 95 North Carolina and that he he finally wrapped his career and he's going to be really bored and she's gonna blow you. Are you ready to blow me up, he's gonna want to hang out you to get to know so yeah I'm full. Congratulations to suck house. I was out at dinner with my with Mike, my parents and Kelly. The kids sorry about that.

That's why wasn't technically doing a show yesterday, but I thought Adam, I haven't produced uses probably 2005 and I did the same thing I did back in 2005. I hardly paid attention. I looked at the Internet to scrape the fan in Raleigh.

The OG which show you you on here today. You want to go real old school today me and Chris Clark to go and Jim Patterson, my friend who joined is normally on Wednesday but we have big, big news cover three podcast moderator so I will start here and I need to set this up start obviously with what happened yesterday with the set with southern Callan UCLA leaving the Pac 12 at the altar and moving to the Big Ten.

We can start with the alliance and just in case people were aware, the alliance started and we have to go pre-pandemic. When the five power conferences, which are no longer. They met and decide try to decide what to do when when COBIT was crushing everybody and they just wait to do things as a group and then like two days later, the Big Ten went. When not playing, figuring that everybody else because the Big Ten is the mighty Big Ten. Everybody's going to fall in line. Well, Pac 12 did not playing in the ACC, the SEC, the big 12 went to Wade because that was apparently the plan all along to just the kind awaited out. So we fast forward to what the SEC does. They raid the big 12 for their two most important schools Texas and Oklahoma.

Last year everybody's matter now we get the alliance the ACC, the Big Ten and the and the and the Pac 12 and Jim Phillips looked into the eyes of George Cleon, and Kevin Warren and they need a contract.

I guess they needed a contract Joe contract. I want you look at me in the eyes, that I am looking at you through the screen I want you look at the time. Alarmingly handsome, so I look up at the monitor that I realize in the look I think that I think the cutest thing that we tend to do in our business we talk about college athletics is that we act as though contracts mean anything. So on one hand, let's say they do have a contract with the alliance both the contractor look like me. What was the binding thing that keeps the allies together. You could probably easily get yourself out of that. The issue is that Jim Phillips said something ridiculous like that. We looked each other in the guide.

If we can't have a man-to-man eye contact moment that it really shows you what's wrong will yeah man you been working because he's a college athletics life are the most disappointing part.

Jim Phillips is been doing this since he came out the womb. I'm assuming he didn't have the wherewithal to to think hey man backstab me at any moment. And that's a real failure on Jim Phillips Park.

My ninja Commissioner would never, he would never allow this to happen sooner than ninja Commissioner was sort of sleep but switch them to techno them going back further lobbying text.

The big 12 was always going to implode Texas and Oklahoma should have been pitched too hard. Five years ago Swofford at the beach to Bud Light lives five years ago what you look at the alliance to Patterson job is done, any contract because it was a short-term deal deal is to vote out the college football playoff 83 when it came to college football playoff and the three navies in the room where the alliance the ACC is the Big Ten is the Pac 12 need to sign a deal because all they really wanted to do was get together for this one vote and stick it to Greg Sankey and sticking to Jack's for brick and stick it to even Craig Thompson from the mountain when he invited me to come be a part of feelings were that that group spent all of that time trying to run through all these different scenarios to pitch the coaches they showed up at the football kickoff they were trying to get everybody on board and then to have the ACC the Big Ten in the Pac 12 line up against it, preventing any college football playoff expansion before the conclusion of the current contract will then the job was done because we can look at it, obviously from the ACC perspective across this unprecedented statewide platforms for bad feelings between Kevin Warren and George Cleon Scott because the night before. Those college football playoff expansion meetings.

The two of them. The Rose Bowl commissioners were going out to dinner together. They were new commissioners they were forging a friendship that was supposed to be and supposedly allowing these two conferences share a lot of the same ideals and ideological ideology to be able to not let the SEC run away with this thing so it's really Kevin Warren, who's the new ninja here as he takes the Pac 12 takes the two biggest properties and then sets up the Big Ten to not only be on par with the SEC with retaliatory move but maybe even positions the Big Ten to be the new alpha in college. I think they are really get to get to that in the second. I also remember the alliance was about scheduling which of course we all laughed at, but they said it was about scheduling and the first big schedule announcement in college football. They came out after the alliance was southern can and LSU playing game. LSU not part of the alliance elastomer chart so so good on you guys for coming up with with this with the scheduling thing is the Rose Bowl even exist anymore. The Big Ten playing in the Rose Bowl yeah play the Big Ten to patient in the Rose Bowl.

That action might benefit the Rose Bowl in the grand scheme of things I Rose Bowl is been with with everything that's happened it's still been one of the most-watched bowl games in college football every single year, even it don't matter if Washington states in the dam Rose Bowl people care about the Rose Bowl.

It's what you know you start mother's all-time.

I always thought that what I get your sugar bowl excuses adorable the champions bowl they call the bed for a while, right but the Rose Bowl is the only one that really move the needle and that's the only one that deserves special treatment national semifinal Rose Bowl national semifinal. We should've been done yet. I'm really looking forward to 2030 when North Carolina and southern cow play in a Rose Bowl championship for the Big Ten.

We are really looking forward to that. We are going to get get to that. Let me ask you this chip as I know you're probably going to be there once July 20 in Charlotte feel like I very very angst.

He was the night before. One of the ACC championship games was in there were the rumors of like Georgia Tech going to the Big Ten and other conversations in the press box. There were like okay will you know when did this become a game of risking a wind of this all of a sudden become a big land grab will more than a decade separated from all the conference realignment craze about that last wave and now we very much know what it's about is not about a landgrab.

It is about creating the type of match ups that will draw the most eyeballs.

It's no longer about media market. It is just about ratings drivers were taking college football. The soul of putting it on the screen. We know or care about a college football fan.

We care about a TV viewer whose favorite TV show is college football trademark Michael Felter.

He came up with that. I really believe that these are entertainment product moves. We as fans are reacting to this confused maybe a little repulsed. Maybe a little turned off but conferences ESPN fox like their use to this moving and shaking their used to switching things up there is to breaking tradition in order to be able to make more money in order to be able to draw more ratings so I I think is very angst he I very much like my purpose of going has changed you know what I am there to hear what the questions that I want to ask her very very different.

I believe that we won't have another major move before then, but all the questions are going to be lingering from the moment that Jim Phillips steps to the microphone every single head coach, especially the prominent ones that speak sort of on behalf of the legal college football.

Your Deborah Sweeney or Matt Brown coaches that have real perspective among the ACC coaches. They are all can have some thoughts on it and so to try and collect as much of that is possible. Knowing that they are not the ones to make any decisions and university presidents will be athletic directors, though, at least, have given a sense of where things might or might not be headed and we might be able to pick that up during our time in Charlotte but Anstey is my overall response just quick contacts for people visit and do this ahead of time. July 20 and 21st ACC football media days in Charlotte. I do think it is a game of risk, even though were not acquiring land. We are currently acquiring property, maybe it's more a game of Monopoly, then it is a game of risk Joe you even want to talk to a player for two days. I mean honestly, I don't really love talking to players anyway. But my interest is not about players and coaches that just mentioned Dabo Sweeney may or may not say anything anyway. Mack Brown that's cool, but also administrative players can tell us about how all the money that's coming in from television that'll dole out what is it like $100 million per school.

At this point for the SEC in the Big Ten how it's really helping them with some quality of life improvements for for their well-being in an things that I hate you were making your travel cross country for rather talk to Olympic sports.

At this point, not football football players a finger or, use to all the travel being separate from everything else of his March the I love to look at ACC kickoff Olympic sports saying hey so that your travel budget house. I can work if this creates money for travel budgets somebody complaining about the women's softball team at Southern Cal have you play. I went wherever right but I'm either knocking a drug bust in a van well the thing is lie nuts can affect them because what we found out in the pandemic is that there's money there's just money for the things that actually care about and will happen is that you'll see a lessening impact on those smaller sports because you have more of an arms race to keep football going to Clemson to need to cut sportster independent schools that none of them did they use the pandemic as an excuse to siphon off money so they could put it back towards football which they cared about.

This would be the same thing here to do yet to look at everything cynically all right. By the way, the, the way that the alliance would've worked the unbreakable vow they make the unbreakable valves.

Harry Potter is a Harry Potter reference because when you break the unbreakable value die. That's the tree guy ice is over okay right but so were Jim Phillips's horror cruxes, not hora credits the Jewish dance cross network records. Warcry is what I do know is what Harry Potter lead I John Swofford's golf shirt from his salvageable no what know not look you know you can sit here, come up with all sinners. Okay, I'll give you one scenario where the ACC is salvageable but I'm telling you right now we have roughly 5 years left of the ACC five I don't think the number is that long. I said roughly okay that's a guesstimate that's probably the best case scenario. I think it's either salvageable or it's over in a hurry so and the reason why I say roughly 5 years because you do have the, the sliding scale of pain to get a contract with the doubt. This is the same math that every coach on the hot seat has to do it with her athletic. It's like what are you comfortable with what's can hurt me with can hurt you equally and I will move on from there everything will be negotiated. So it's good to go one of two ways either Jim Phillips in this college presidents and ESPN can convince Notre Dame to be the third division of major college football. We talk about the mega to the power's fine. The mistake people try to act as though the alliance made a mistake in blog. I heard Dan Wetzel early ramp. I disagree with Dan was of no sports about the deal know they should not cause report know in retrospect no better decision. But in retro she was a good decision neither. I agree I agree with you my most my point here is that you could not allow the SEC going game of thrones Chaos is a ladder to completely take over the college football playoff with ESPN and lock that in with one network and one network only.

You want to make more money you do with the NFL does and you go from maximum reach and you break it up with the various networks that are interesting college football.

You have two possibly three.

You have ESPN, Disney ABC and Fox. They're the ones with the money and you're seeing it play out with the Big Ten in the SEC right. Apple might figure into that a little bit that the mistake was believing your other your other year there cut conference commissioners. This is the salvageable thing you convince Notre Dame to come in to be that third division of football that becomes like an AFC, NFC, and 1/3. You might not be as powerful right, but you will at least have teams that can compete on the national level and keep you floating Clemson Florida State Miami protect Notre Dame but I don't see that happening because we don't know what the college football college football players who look like if it's a at large thing with the committee where you invite the eight best teams as well.

Investing in college and then you eliminate conference champions Notre Dame's never joining you. Notre Dame is never joining you in that situation. What is big, but it is if you screw the playoff could simply consist of teams at that level, possibly right which Notre Dame would have to be in a league to be at that love me, but just works for the one coming up with the new playoff system clearly at the table, how they develop. That may also change. So as we as we go forward.

Should why do you think the ACC is viable.

I tend to agree with Joe that the best they can do is essentially convince Notre Dame to be a part of it throw at maybe add a few other schools. I created 1/3 option right gliding creates you at Navy Stanford do the things that are going to speak to what Notre Dame's tradition is and you hope that the addition not just of the fighting Irish but of these other schools allows you to create a new contract with ESPN that won't have so much of a gap with what SEC and what the Big Ten is making.

Maybe I get to $30 million short of where they are. Maybe we can reward the ACCs loyalty being one of the first to go all know well they sort it did with the big 12. The big 12 is nearly worth what it was when he had texted Oklahoma.

They did not cut them, but I would argue that not cutting them, keeping the money status quo is a drop right it's a drop ACC can do internally to keep other schools from moving when it comes to the finances is going be merit-based annual payouts when you know like one of the things we heard from USC and UCLA was how upset they were getting paid the same as the rest of the pack 12 believing that even though they were getting the small little checks they were responsible for a good portion those small little checks. It was silly for them to be getting the same cut as some of their other conference members. That's the stop Texas and it did initially because that deal that the initial DM, the Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State also got extra money to stay in the big 12. Now eventually that ran out, and then they took off. I got like two minutes left here so quick answers.

I'll start with chip when the ACC disintegrates, which goes on. I think I'm really praying football like they could be playing like the ACC can still just a just might not have will be waiting for schools leave for the Big Ten which for schools leave for the SEC quick for the Big Ten is North Carolina, Duke, Virginia Georgia Tech, the SEC is Clemson, Florida State, Miami and TBD and see safe answers was a chip on the big time in that Duke and Caroline are a package deal. Virginia makes sense and you compare the backup with Marilyn. They can be buddies again and then yeah Georgia Tech Artie has that a connection with Atlantic is the Big Ten still cares about TV markets, short Big Ten network as the SEC asked as chip set up with them to come to Florida State, Virginia Tech, Miami would make the most my sense to me. That leaves NC state is the odd man out NC State actually has the most to lose in this scenario where they end up playing with the American at some point and ECU and NC State can finally be together an app in Charlotte and real workforce goes to the ACC boutique bespoke basketball league like the sea can survive. They just need to Austin college money and ACC surviving like my hairline dude and I have wow Jeff Patterson thank you very much for hanging out Joe over yes you can follow Joe on Twitter at Job is doing a radio show today to Patterson and the cover three podcast@chip_Patterson, it's been a blast member of the urban legend.

I guess that Michael Jordan was caught from his high school basketball team at Laney high school as a sophomore. It's sort of true, wasn't cut he just didn't make the varsity team because somebody else was chosen ahead of him. Wouldn't it be great if we could talk to the person who got Michael Jordan's spot on Laney's varsity team well just so happens we can harvest Leroy Smith you are the guy who made the team in place of Michael Jordan.

What number did you wear on varsity board member, that would be graded graded program number 50, it would be it would be good. Would've been even better had you worn number 23 would be if we been supplied so you know cut it clear that up. Why did you make the team and that that Michael Jordan guy, not work, Adam. I'm standing big today about 7 1/2.

So when I was in high school I was probably 667 so there would call splintered. And Michael about 595 10 Solyndra as well.

If I was because I would put the big 67 I would like the probably smart dog. I was only 5.5, 10, is sprouted up better growth spurt over the next 24, 36 month and the rest is history.

Harvest Leroy Smith to who got the spot that Jordan wanted on Laney high school's varsity team so Michael is famous for holding grudges.

How did that play out in your relationship with him if there was one back in high school and what it was Maddock Road players but truly fire you tell that story all time probably heard over time, but Michael's and one time one of the most competitive people I've ever met. You really didn't know it because he saw it every day, but it translated and everything especially old court so that deftly fired not to have made that varsity team that year and from then on it was just competitive spirits every single day and everything is friends were we when we actually live 3 miles 4 miles away from each other. Time and how we spent every day was about four of us that really stuck together. We could call this a group of other a lot and like I said the only way we knew how to practice in the play and it was to play extremely hard.

I have to give Michael a lot of credit for that good practice were very entrancing in report then like a set of kids. We didn't know what was going on but I see that that spirit started developing him character did he know that you got his spot or was it just hears the team you made it. He didn't know our coats (he saw the ninth graders basketball Boat to come out varsity next year when you get to Laney high school at high schoolers at Southport and we knew there probably was just one spot back team that year as we were coming and Jan that we thought was going make their team and course story goes, we ran to the board, looked up and found our names and my name is Darren and Mike's name was and that when everything started started next at that point.

When you make the team. He doesn't does it alter your relationship does does anything change you know what were changed on the course dominated and I was on varsity. There's a lot so I'm on my wanted to play with players. It was cool being on the varsity Southport work 16-year-old person that whole thing, but I was civic, we develop play and all that stuff but we still hung out as friends and we still you know Michael's comment just a matter that that whole thing exploded and took often, but it did knock our friendship will quickly spend less time to dedicate out on the varsity JV so forth and so on.

But you know we supported each other and watch the game and lament the fact that I want to play what Ripley don't do really well. Get back to to Michael.

I mean, what was your teacher like in basketball. Where did you go after Laney high school and I believe we were talking at the and SMA awards.

This this past Monday you didn't play professionally.

So what was your your career like I left Laney high school, 81, and for your Apple yet Norco honor Charlie Capt. UT my senior year we tell everybody I was building foundation part of their success so that we that the great making 77 team affected back to God when they went to the final four hour call it the bell curve year so you have your building blocks all of the part that time.

Mercury line Charlotte my freshman year, we first have to see what we were like what I think and we were actually ranked in the nation.

Think of the top 25 top 30 whatever it is. Came home Christmastime and then we skated at the Christmas 15 and 12 that was under Mike Pratt and then the next three years. Curve years it would it would it was character building but I graduated with a degree in psychology from Dr. Charlotte and then I went overseas my because they came in after my sophomore, junior and senior was Jeff Mullins know how to whistle Mullins and was very kind to me make sure I finish school and also connecting the woman aided her brutally got me overseas so I went to England and played played in Germany played in France play down South America and finish my career in Japan two years in Tokyo glass that I had a great time saw the world got the play.

You know sport get paid for that I would play for free and matter fact I pay now to play will circle your teaching kids to want to get to that real quick that we are the time to time but I want to get to that you paid to play hello okay okay that I understand, so I don't talk to me about what you're doing with kids under your out in Winston-Salem you're like instructing kids, your teaching kids how to beat Michael Jordan out exactly I volunteer at the YMCA here and also have like a basketball skill Called the rural international and what I do work with. In a holistic type way to help them understand the why behind what we do on the basketball court not to so much. You know all the fundamentals, of course, why you think it makes so much more sense when a player understands you know what In-N-Out moved out for them, or why you need to keep a low player be ready and ready to visit at all times what it means to have the mob mentality, not just words would throw out what that really mean how to teach kids how to work work really hard to achieve your goal at whatever level you are like I was refereeing for five and six-year-old for the why and I love it because I said okay. Remember I said you can't run with the ball ball like I got a dog but I have so much fun.

Refereeing unsure. Also as a teaching moment for parents to leave that alone, world international, you could find a harvest. Leroy Smith, their master won't quit.

One quick thing before we have to say goodbye Ed I don't know if you have a relationship with Jordan today but how long did your relationship last and you know what what is it, what was it like as he became Michael Jordan to still be able to say I beat you out what that made because I was out of the country for six years and that whole Roy Smith Michael Jordan story was growing and building of course there was a lot of Instagram social and all that so I had to rely on my current phone call. Tell me what was going on back here and when I came back home course Jordan was destroying the lesion. We kept in contact.

Like now. We talk on special occasions, Father's Day things like that momentous times text back and forth to each other. So there is much as I would like for us to see each other but still there so close now because I just moved back to about 30+ years in Los Angeles so now I'm able to get to Charlotte and go to some of the games and things like that so cool to sit down one day to talk about old times and got a limited play golf you know what I did out there.

I swing mystics are not going to fix it. You can see no reason to like big game fishing now as well.

I love how I want to talk again just little Leroy Smith will dig your mom, your mom probably because the artist but Roy, I like the triple position harvest Leroy Smith, who beat Michael Jordan out for the varsity at Laney high school as a sophomore.

Thank you so much.

So we got to the bottom of how Jordan didn't make his varsity team as a sophomore, but I will say this harvest Leroy Smith good dude. Good dude, fun to talk to. I met him at the and SMA awards on Monday. I thought let's talk certainly have a little fun on a getaway day for a lot of people. What we come back. The author of the book.

Ray of light Jimmy Ray North Carolina guy was the first black quarterback and major college football Duffy Dority was the head coach, Michigan State, he helped integrate the support we will talk about Jimmy Ray and the impact he had on Marlin Briscoe who just passed away first black quarterback in the NFL next heading into a July 4 weekend and were all looking for a break, but I think it's important to tell this story. We haven't talked about this really been caught up in other things this week, but the very first black quarterback in the NFL guide played legit quarterback in the NFL. Marlin Briscoe passed away, and there is a connection between Marlin Briscoe and somebody that we have talked about on this program Jimmy Ray who is from the state of North Carolina and became the first black quarterback in college football essentially at Michigan State, and Tom Shanahan wrote the book, Ray of light and I think he is a person that we should talk to about just the impact that Marlin Briscoe had a Jimmy Ray had on Marlin Briscoe and Tom Shanahan joins us on the atom gold show so I'm just gonna let you take it from here. Thank you for your time. Explain the connection Jimmy Ray Marlin Briscoe and how it all got started talk about the first point to make is something I personally when I get a chance to talk. Barley but others are still walking around during the late 70s and go tell the story to remember is now in the 1960s were borrowed. Briscoe quarterback and overall University was down to brass gold to program the quarterback state that they can out of the Fayetteville and the only other college division quarterback was Jean Washington Sanford however was white. Next year, which was a common practice about black athletes right so that was very rare for to find a coach that would give a black athletes needed to stereotype black athletes work smarter not white players would be cleared out one follow-up black man Tom Shanahan is joining us here on the atom gold show, author of Ray of light Jimmy Ray Duffy Dority, the integration of college football in the 1965, 66 Michigan state Spartans you can get it on Amazon is even a book on tape. I believe you brought up switching getting these guys to switch positions that happen very recently when Lamar Jackson's coming out of Louisville as great as Lamar Jackson was at Louisville. Even somebody like Bill Polian at this this day and age was suggesting that Lamar Jackson need to become a running back, which is the height of disrespect for all he had accomplished as a quarterback at Louisville still goes on all the worst example of that quarterback and what will always linger about how late he was drafted. What we lack personnel. If I'm correct that you told still goes on, that I realized that viewpoint. Both Ray and Violet came out of the 1968 drought is a word quarterback but drafted as back and example of a great black quarterback who was forced to switch positions was out of the but if you look at the draft board. He was listed as a quarterback. Both the Vikings or just totally drafted there but they were quarterback just six years later, 1968 drought in both Ray and Briscoe were drafted in by then Yannick on teams what's left of quarterback they listen as drafted as a quarterback. So I think that is a lot to about the NFL back to those days. I don't want to mislead people.

Briscoe was drafted he played quarterback his first year and then they moved yeah I hear the start. And for whatever reason.

At that point David was the Denver Broncos coach had waived the quarterback at a resort on the roster report Briscoe in their quarterback and he did well starting five games and 11 and one even passing touchdowns that intersection rate was better than ski pants over start returning yet still pretty careful about open up saving advice cancel a couple other quarterback thinks I for meeting of endeavor before Open and he does not invite Briscoe to join him. Briscoe got wind that Deborah anyway waited outside the office set out because I wasn't invited to the meeting at the end result was. He asked for Lee's neighbor gave it to the Buffalo Bills signed borrowed Briscoe. Ironically, that same year James who idolized both Ray and Violet Briscoe was a draft pick out a grandly James had a couple cold and I felt more about size of the backup Jack Wide receiver this time back. He went on all Pro 1+2 Super Bowl titles with the Miami Dolphins.

Next Paul Warfield, Tom Shanahan is joining us here you can hit them up actually on on Twitter at Sani 4055. Also, Tom Shanahan.report to get a read more of his writing, and he writes really well, especially in this particular arena what that would Briscoe do he lead to that led to the next guy that led to the next guy that was given an opportunity now will pull Jimmy Ray. Years later he was a grandly black college so he was allowed to play quarterback right and you will go to the library. He looked up to borrowed Briscoe Jimmy Ray so that they were the only black quarterback will go to the grandly library. To look up their stats and see how they did was show you how long before you.

The Internet I that's how I followed him and then you don't think Paris was always proud of Marlin Briscoe Williams came out of grandly as well what he was always proud of James Eric and continued slowly, definitely slowly now the black quarterback to accept it is more than just good running back. Your quarterback could run we still label quarterbacks with it. It's still a tendency to do that and you know it's it's funny because when Josh Allen came out of Wyoming. The truth of the matter is that Josh Allen was essentially playing like the stereo typical black quarterback.

The people did look at it that way because of course he's not black but that's where we that's where we are today with what was there a guy was it Williams was it Warren Moon changed the perception that Canada had a great career as an incentive was finally able to come back and tell the Pro football Hall of Fame award will mention a lot of quarterback had a you that cleared away and let me out quarterback switch to the present bracket with the Steelers leaving the Pro football Hall of Fame as a coach. One of the bedsores that he recognized was Jimmy Ray.

All I know is that guys like their the spell has gotten a place now where they're looking for the athlete who can also play quarterback.

We have finally gotten to the point where the best players are playing that position and it's I don't know that it's not a stigma. I think there is still a stigma for some people but the best players are playing we see in college and were starting to see it filter up to the NFL Tom Shanahan Shanahan.report Ray of light. The book about Jimmy Ray and integrating college football. I appreciate your time sir. Hope you have a good July 4 I can hope we can talk again very soon. You have a new book coming out.

Don't you be out by football people look at how the data Duffy Dority like college football but hope the coast with the coaches he had that when they got to their new school.

They expanded to recruit but a blackout that could hearing what people don't know and understand in the 60s there was a quote in his late 60s there was 1/4 then keep black out to about a half-dozen something back that with his team 60s better example that they can 6620 black athletes, 11 black stars, black team captains college football Hall of Famer George Webster and Joe Jimmy Ray in the south first black quarterback to wear the title deed while Notre Dame holy one black player. The great Outlook page. My gosh George Preston Marshall rolling over in his grave, and I thank you very much.

Have a good July 4. We will talk again very soon sir. I this is the gold shell
