This is the Adam Gold show all man conference expansion conversations always good will show up in the wall of sound.

I know that Tony D'Angelo will join us in about 15 minutes. Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony D'Angelo. It bugs me to say that out loud. I was really hoping that the hurricanes would figure out a way to get D'Angelo back did not work out. Doesn't seem like the money was that outrageous to me but the hurricanes in this is you could be happy about this or not but in a salary-cap game and that's what the NHL is and it is really a hard, unlike the NBA unlike the NFL in the NHL.

You have to get really creative to exceed the salary-cap hurricanes did by the way last year. It's otherwise difficult to fit guys in. If they make a million to a million 1/2 dollars a year more than you are willing to pay them that you have budgeted for them. It's really hard because at some point that supplier that's really what it is Carolina if they decided to D'Angelo is worth no will just say 4 million and he gets 5 million that 1 million is a player, hard to just go with one less player you so but that's that was their decision. I would've brought D'Angelo back.

Even at 5 million for two years. I thought he played well enough for Jacob Slaven to just run that back couple more years of said this, but with his new podcast at the mention that Dennis out to give. There is a brand-new podcast that landed this morning and merely talk about the hurricanes having a two-year window to win the Stanley Cup before oh in Terrebonne and in Pesci and Jarvis may be Shea or Slaven was three years left in a deal, but he's eligible for an extension after two more years. All those guys are going to get raises, which probably means that there are going to be people not here because you can't pay everybody and so I think is a two-year window to win the Stanley Cup. D'Angelo for two years. Thinking helps you would Stanley Cup the helps put you in that position. I think you did this year did go out the end right last to know, 14, 15 games, the regular-season is good against Boston. Not good against the Rangers in the playoffs so the end of the season. I think kind of this may be soured the appetite to pay him $5 million a year.

I forget that would Tony D'Angelo in just a minute. Now we have time for wall sent the wall of sound is a function of this. There's no doubt try to get there is much as we can hear that is conservative. It's really quite interesting. Actually, all of it is quite interesting.

Why would I downplay any of this. Let's get to Baker Mayfield of the Carolina Panthers shall we do it. Keyshawn Johnson is not a fan of Baker Mayfield think he's going into the season as a starting point. I got know everybody thinks that based on his tenure at Cleveland and Carolina perpetrate for him so automatically. People being okay is a better quarterback. The struggle is Sam Donald of second half of the season. Last year Baker Mayfield injured if he was helping maybe click the browse exhibit different.

He's not on the movie Carolina but I don't think that he starts the season party Sam Darlow holds them all in with McAfee stays healthy as a differencing well. Yes that would go for either quarterback. It is, it does pretty much all hinge on the health of Christian McCaffrey was playing. I think 10 games total over the last two years. Three. Two years ago.

Seven. Last year yeah their offense predicated on him being in the lineup. Mayfield's better than Donald. If Baker Mayfield can't beat Sam Donald out man what are we doing I really say I that sounds pretty basic but what is Baker Mayfield doing if it can be outstand on McDonald sense of injury issues and injury issues last year but when both guys their normal performance. Mayfield's better, easily better. Maybe the Donald Heiser better not even sure that's true but if Baker Mayfield can't beat Sam Donald, I mean that investigation and yet the long season IBI blog season might leave either way.

But still, it right right I got like I've been saying I just don't think it really moves the needle for the Panthers but okay is the duty of the shiny new object but more more on football, college style. Let's we have two things exit both ESPN people. Reese Davis on attractive ACC schools. Ultimately, I think you see is still vulnerable doesn't mean that they that they can't make it but at the moment, the brand that would really bring value to the other big competent debate to which is where we're headed, are few and far between but there are few, if those brands and I use that word because that's what they are now at Eagle North Carolina Clemson football.

Those are the two primary ones. In my judgment, there are others, but those are the two that I think are most attractive and would bring some value. Should they try to test that should they try to go in the ACC will have a hard time standing up.

Sure grant of rights. No says that only Notre Dame can probably make a move if grant of rights. No is ironclad enough.

Not even sure Notre Dame would somebody will tested in court. I'm sure it's it I'm I can use the term the wild wild West that athletic directors have used with name, image and likeness, but we really don't know what the future is in major college sports because there is so much uncertainty, but if grant of rights holds the ACCs more than fine art.

Here's Harry Douglas, former NFL wide receiver. He's actually one of the guys that was hosting when I went on ESPN radio last week yeah so the hair, Erica, Harry, not really.

This terrible plague Harry Nayar were down. Anyway, here is Douglas on change in college sports. Change is not always bad and understand some sports may take a hit list enough to get football fuels all those other sports as well. But change is sometimes needed because you don't want to get left behind. Not evolving with time. Well first of all, Harry Douglas is correct sometimes change is good and nobody wants to get left behind. It would be a stretch to argue that the Big Ten or the SEC was getting left behind before the additions of Texas, Oklahoma, Southern Cal in your ceiling. That would be a strip that would be a stretch to say that they are getting left behind.

Now from the school perspective Texas and Oklahoma. At best, will probably get a pull in between 35 and 45 million annually in the big 12 Southern Callahan UCLA at mom number might've even come down.

They had their media rights have been an absolute mess. The decision to to basically just do their own network meant that they just weren't pulling a lot of money from it. So there's no for those schools. They were definitely they made out big time huge influx of cash so getting left behind is not the same. Depending on know from which angle you look but I find it hard to believe that this is good for college football overall good for college football so we have some fans here who are fans of what you say South Carolina games you going to win in a juiced up SEC South Carolina luck if you want six very yeah, but here's because here's the thing. If we end up with two solar systems as Jack's 4% where we have one lead with these each to each of these lease has 20 teams basically playing in-house. Yeah, there aren't that many. Somebody's got to lose. Yeah, that is the ultimate problem that you have here is that essentially you will be resigned to playing only yourselves and the balance sheet is going to have the same amount of wins, loss is to be law schools are knocking to be happy to be a lot of schools on five and seven young families to litigate with the wind. I did now we would five just if the inevitability of where were headed. If were going to to super conferences and I'm not talking about 16 verse 16.

I'm talking about 20 versus 20.

That's where were headed. Not everybody can win. Which is why I have argued that if the Big Ten does expanded 20 and Edward probably might be a ways away from it. Stanford would be part of it for sure.

Yeah, and if ACC schools ever did get poached and I'm not saying it's going to happen. I think Duke's very much in play, because while there used to losing. That's about trying to be flippant about it but they're accustomed to losing yeah and there is a value to Duke as a national program in basketball. Last week I brought this up with Hayes last week arch on Friday and the mentions I posted on on YouTube on 99 on of his YouTube page. When Brian Geisinger was in with him last week talking about potential schools of the ACC that could eventually eventually maybe move and put up on YouTube and someone actually commented.

Don't think for one second that there that Fox as a network since they control the Big Ten isn't salivating at the thought of putting Duke first Carolina on Fox network with Gus Johnson calling the game yet regardless of the announcer. Yeah but just like that whole thing like the speculate Gus Johnson. This games on Fox yeah why wouldn't you bring both Duke and Carolina together like that's got money written all over. I realize that this is only a football thing, but when football season ends. There is still three more almost 4 more months of programming to fill and it's basketball there and Duke is the number one drawer in the sport so the Carolinas in the top five of draws in the Spartan so I'm not saying you make the move because of that, but it's a national program basketball less valuable than football but Duke has a national brand art, but it does matter. Oh absolutely managed aflame absolutely all right couple of very quick things. We haven't talked about some really good all but you have a wager with Jordan with that rather Paula bank Aerojet Holmgren. I do right which I'm interested in Paula bank. Carol is going to be a problem in the NBA. He is going so soul gentleman. By the way, here's Jordan Cornett on the former Duke powerful, Alister was impressed everybody because you get that Yacht out look some of the talent you're necessarily MBA primetime talent.

You can still watch a young man play and say translate whatever you're playing at it at any level and we watched Paolo play the MBA body and appear that a lot about some of these two guys assume the same about like a window or feel these are high IQ guys and Paolo is that we could talk about with. He's making passes crosscourt with the offhand playing off the ball you competing is rebounding you getting to a spot on the floor you doing all the things he was building and having the ability to is good is good. So is Jen Holmgren.

Again, the fear about Holmgren is will his body break met.

That's that should be a real fear for Oklahoma City will his body hold up to the pounding of an NBA season. Paula bank arrow is built for my question about bank arrow is he quick enough and we won't know until we get into the actual season, but in terms of skill, Bank arrows loaded with skill. All right, one more thing and that is you want to put this up, Kenny made his bid on this program before former ESPN anchor star was on with Boomer and Geo on CBS radio and he had something to take care of looking for more of the really fun thing where you live in these days in order.

Talking to them on the radio always single for chart a little a lot about water from Americano have not clover radio interview on orders. That is fine. I have no problem with.

I had no problem with that order for shots yells Americano with a little hot water for little a lot about water from Americano have not our clover 12 ounce so that would be a small hall where the cold. Well the visit was in Starbucks or was it someplace else in Starbucks.

Okay, maybe you might feel to get Americano and in other places, but that he would've just called ordered a tall, maybe around Golden studio with my friend Coach Pete through the capital financial advisory group. We are talking retirement hotels longevity risk figure into our retirement and income plan. This is the best of times and the worst of times and longevity risk me to get a lift to all but to me everyday lives not too long after we want to money to outlive us and unfortunately many people have seen you out there listening. Maybe one of them. Your money is not designed to outlive you.

You might outlive your money and that's not what we want to have happen as we get to that day after you run out of money not to be a fun time. Let's design a plan that guarantees you never run out of money.

We call it the GPI plan growth protection lifetime income for the next 10 people is the golden ticket out of the snow valuable to do it at no cost or obligation, and all you have to do is call we make it so easy. Would you like financial independence into your retirement and beyond it. 800-661-7383 that golden ticket is $1000 value or you could text Adam to 21000 for Coach Pete to root out flyers joins us on the Adam boat show. I'm sad to say that but I'm to start with something that isn't hockey related. Your Phillies are now in a playoff position. A major turn that required or are you positive us in the mission argument is yours for you stick around get those for back you might have some oil Facebook. The literature I look this is it's about time. Write a mean the Phillies had been kind of building and and pretending that since a pretending but trying to be a contender for last few years has necessarily worked out but yet overcoming injuries, the Mets have played basically the entire first half without matchers are Jacob the ground. The parades didn't have Ronald Colonia for the first six or so weeks of the season we can have some some kind of battle. The last of the last two and half months of the year break bread in the Mets get your bra back good. That's the that's almost impossible. Will you play them you go 12 and I'm guessing in a century ago for five or earlier. If they do it right in between restaurant seven years or 56 it's that stuff even twice in series, hopefully somehow you get the documents out before the fall at the plant's D'Angelo is joining us here I'd get into the negotiations at all or I'll just you know you and I have not really spoken about this, so I'll let you decide what you want to say about why you with the Philadelphia Flyers right yeah I would really rather disappointed with the negotiations.

In a sense, I mean if you look at the contract advising outside after being traded to me.

It was a very attainable contractor team with the Situation that for Caroline was in, but I also respect everybody's decisions right you not shoot the businessman that are thinking of being exactly I feel better or for the way my agent felt about whatever is what we deserve and I think that all I know is that I quit everything I had live to team everything we are collated and I quit the team first Niagara just enjoy plan for Parada. You are spoken so highly run out the rest of my career and let you is just fantastic working perfect code for me. You know and like not going to find each other was stuff that I want to do to continue to play for him not to make it work but you get too far apart and insert negotiations them and you know for myself have the opportunity of fire which was a lifelong dream which is hard to pass up. At that point, and that you know and she is respected and just the way it went out but I just love the people in Raleigh so it makes it it makes a tough couple swallow because I was only there for year but it felt like a social gospel around the rounded group and people and I have so much quirky fans. It was like I was there for like 10 years. It felt like no related and that shows you it's a bittersweet thing, our Savior, flyers, dispute seven. I can't really explain what so much but that I really enjoyed became fans are great, and now watching this important offense flooded and after I left, and disappointments of me thought it I won't forget them anytime soon. D'Angelo is joining us here like I make.

I made a list of like six or seven things I wanted to just touch on with you.

You mentioned basically all of them something to go back to it didn't help much. Were you involved in the discussions did Rod play a role trying to mediate this whole thing or was it simply your agent and I'll just say Tom Dunn that everybody was involved in the everybody involved, including myself. I had such a great respect rotted and enjoy plan for so much, but I just think it is every coach is not the record is silent, say that make the sound will be wrong, but just want to coach you know is to respect the court will put let you draw the expected players. We did something for me that it was just so precious to me and then you know I had a great year and I attribute a lot of that should give myself a lot of credit for but you have to give credit to coast believing in my key partner in the players I was with you like it when you support since it's a team game and I had that sport there and I really appreciate it.

So I was deftly involved.

I wanted to sit back and let out a few McMansions for me. I was there I was involved. I was also not feel like I know my value Lee. I think that other teams know restricted that in any my value was what was your sense Caroline was was environment that at that point yeah that's really all there is to it. I kinda don't want to be like a dog's run is not going to UT without any clear what do you know when the opportunity of Philadelphia Flyers and social kid from Philadelphia. It's a little bit different in the sense that Dick starts to come out you little bit more if you are going to leave it on the eviction. It makes a lot of sense to do what you believe in and move on. But not had a lot of letters for cooking's organization and unfortunately wasn't the wasn't valued at the numbers make sense.

D'Angelo is with us here in the Adam boat show, so I wanted to ask you if you had thought about. I'm sure you did as a kid growing up and like you and I are both from New Jersey but were really from two different parts to different states from northern New Jersey which is really New York you're from southern jersey which is really Philadelphia so you grew up a flyer fan. Have you thought about what it's gonna be like to skate out of the ice as a flyer at the start of the season. I mean it's it's crazy to even think about so I know it's it's reporting to not being traded but what I do know the people that know me I grew up with my current ice integration plan.

We had a little like Nelly O'Rourke. I hadn't slept like a roller blade on the base little bit that I'd be announcing as if I was on the flyer score goes up. My parents always tell me about a number partially not all of the day and I was done I watched everything again like try to stay up late there on the West Coast. We 10 o'clock in the beginning shows work school. I tried telling her that I would watch flyers and that was just awful everyday. I went to school at a flyer teacher like that whatever was I was always my lifelong dream of my whole goal in life is to be a flyer you get older, you realize that you will quickly control where you go into your free-agent or whatever, but now actually be a flyer in just start in vision October 13 at home (and whatnot jersey over and you come out home ice in front of my family and stuff like that to be a pretty slow probably right up there if not higher than likely my first career again so it's something that you don't do right. Everybody is going up another body gets to the lifelong group like that to you when you go through a career so you some special manager D'Angelo joined us here on the Adam boat show. I so you played pretty much all year with Jacob Slaven. What was that like as an eye-opener for you.

Going from somebody who played but not necessarily against because defendant defensemen don't play against other defensemen, but watching him and then playing with it. I've told many people already in interviews or private conversation is no other Jacob Slaven, you know, in a sense when you think of the perfect match that will work for each other the way it turned out to be just total complement company covers games perfectly. I thought it and it was a great start I thought you were nowhere, no grace. Over get used to it seemed like we started planning knowing that that many conversation words on my doing this that I was just we both chose understand each other again week and we worked off each other so well, but that just great flabby scrapers as you guys know that Aki was all talk about more sister is a phenomenal player and I actually told the Flyers general manager I was speaking to a licensed trade.

We played a lot of man-to-man right everybody knows what you and I said doesn't matter who, like who was on him, he could send anybody want want to talk to you guys and we can spend the turned all over the place, and he's able to just swallow them up one shift we play Boston next seven Marchant Marchant have the dynamite series was just he just swallow them up one shift in the diesel and there was a big time again you also start with a little pressure there. Try to get back in again. We are up to nothing.

Then he just swallow the play is not. Later everybody sit there and talk about the playwright but he just turned the wall to cut and turn the boom swallow Rick to pluck out perpendicular going the other way and there goes the shifter bosses stoplights like little things like that.

What happened 1015 times again like so that one so wild that you played your guy got your next life will be easier.

I think I might like your style is not having friends. We were so good to talk but now just click the play with a great guy to anyone prescribed text the other station is happening disappointed in all the guys at this point which she was my lot in effect for talk it out just just where it turned out his business over the last item that I was doing and should hopefully if anybody else please I hope you guys come to Philadelphia… You can go you might be able to lobby for Jacob Slaven to come to Philadelphia but anybody else like I hundred percent grace. Give me another player that surprised you would have good he was before ask you one more question, so I know Rick Pesci overly why no one that I don't chew well enough, not good. Brady is not a good church is that it you know the guys coming in, but watching Rick Pesci play on a nightly basis is failing work a lot more than $4 million in the here is just so strong all side of the ice and offenses is you look at the point total generally click are placing their ghost and points of note talk like they're incensed. He's really good already. I should high hockey IQ level.

He defends great speech well in the gap she had like I did. It was all John. Just watch him everyplace like this part where I something that will cringe in depth with all the stuff but it is clear we see stuff like to welcome us that we see which open now as we heartily on the AC was open but it just seemed like every time I see I don't shut up and not you. That is a little over and if you get it open my mouth in an and say some to give and help. It was Artie done in my next thing was nice like that or whatever you just really really really good to a defense like they want to talk to Lee that doesn't get the recognition of the delegates great recognition but my thing is even more and I think test deserves way more recognition. He gets on the want to talk to a guys leak stretches offenses will get to its function that makes you break up exegesis to require and have long long career still doing this I think you're right. He's worth a lot more than 4.05 or whatever it is that he gets in these part of this two-year window for the hurricanes. A lot of contracts up coming up in two years. All right final thing. What are your summer plans. Man, you get to get to first citizens a bunch of watcher fillies or did you know how you prepare for the season.

All that all of this because I wanted to recruit anyway yeah like our friends around here anyway. So now the largest perfectly because alternative facilities for legal summary noted morning then come back and forth and down the Jersey shore just where I live most of the time, but once fillies get home.

A surge of the Cubs and I'll try to get over there to try to get the seven Eagles Eagles camps and then next unread question when the Eagles practice right here every morning but try to go there and check you critical, not in some part of the silly athletes will be able to get into don't need to click on a diehard fan fiction should not appeal to get to go because guys can hang around the their clubhouses and lockers never can be really cool advantage of that stuff and stresses over get ready to go train skate that support your for the choir to know you can only care about that but if you import your coming up for sure we got two years ago without the well should not standard in Philly, so it's good to be skinny. Let's get going right away and springs some flyers talking back to the table and try to get your there's no question about it and I hope that you will be a big part of it, Tony. I appreciate your time. Hence, it was great having you here.

Look forward to seeing you soon when you guys come to town. Hopefully our paths will cross and I'll be in touch that I appreciate anything you don't have to come on. I just want to talk to just absolutely fun to talk to Tony D'Angelo so wishing well missing the hurricanes. I think I'm going to miss Tony D'Angelo, I would question for you for charting in the Situation with the team.

Maybe the reason why were unable to agree to terms Jimmy Carter did not play last year right owl for everyone who claim complaint a couple years ago how the tape may lightning use long-term IR to work on the salary capital Carolina did that this year. Best supporting Jake Gardner along for my heart is using over $4 million For 4.11 million something along those lines. Now, the team announced that he is healthy right after the season ended, so I don't think they could put them back on long-term IR must he actually does get injured again.

Otherwise you looking at me like a player grievance financial PA they could call it what Tonya Harding's friends could not happen.

I'm wondering because that is good accounting history teams, And Leslie move him insolently this off-season, what's my guess is hey team whomever hears of the second round draft pick of the flyers is gave us. Please take Jake Gardner and give us a bag of apples in return. I actually wrote about this in my kind of was really a draft recap because I really talk more about D'Angelo and I mentioned it last night. I don't think Jake Gardner can play for the hurricanes and I don't think so either, but that contract doesn't matter right now.

Yeah, I mean it counts 4.1 million against the Unless they move it now. Can you find somebody to take Jake Gardner team. It has Room that this is there's a floor you have to you have to spend a certain amount of money so there are there teams below that who hey what do you a solid you do us a solid hurricanes. They were in this position, but they bought a first round pick from Toronto Patrick Patrick Marlowe's contract. They just waved and rages the barn out that I did get a big they just paid the 6 million let them walk so they paid $6 million for first round pick. You could see a team do that would Jake Gardner and if the hurricanes can't find a team willing to do that.

I did give a team Gardner and a second round pick in return for 1/5 as you deal and now your read of the 4.1 million.

Or you could buy him out, and the buyout is $1 million this year and like 1.4 and change next year so that's easy to take 3 million off your salary For this year. Sure you can.

They can get rid of Jake Gardner's contract. Most of it simply with the stroke of a pen and a check which I mean the team doesn't like to do and has not done under Tom Dunton for last night it was basically Alex 77 I was loved by well know me. They did away with Marlowe? Yeah, but yes the last time they took you a long-term contract bought out was sent so could they do it. I think will get rid of the contract. I don't think Jake Gardner's contract other than in a buyout form will be with the Carolina hurricanes this year, which is why, when, as I keep saying it's between 22 and $23 million of Space to get a place to be fun to be interesting to see how that happens.

Free agency begins Wednesday at noon Wednesday at noon. Yes, so some breaking news during the shellac shadow know you're here on Wednesday. I am here that's right, nothing will happen. Bought Thursday here.

Not here so cute so = everybody exactly big signings on their everybody that is on Thursday hauling it. June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak.

Figuring it out on the fly became 1/5 anniversary of the presented by the Carolina listen I know I've said this before but I say again, thanks to his Paramore for sitting in all last week will be here on Thursday of this week as well.

All the free agent signing everything from everything will happen on Thursday, the Atlantic Coast conference will expand to include the Big Ten on Thursday.

Okay that's what's going to happen when I am not here real quick. I mentioned that we would have some breaking news. Actually, this happened earlier in the day, but I had not seen it reported so apparently the Department of Justice like for real dear department of justice. Hey is opening an investigation into an antitrust exit investigation into the PGA Tour and how they have reacted to their members leaving for live golf so for those people who are live golf supporters if you will. You have you have that bit of life to say for you.

Good news, I do believe that the PGA Tour is smart enough to not violate the law. Now whether or not they can ban players from coming back and playing on the PGA Tour that may be a matter that will be settled in the courts interesting. I mean be they'll all you'll always be able to challenge anything in a court whether or not it has merit. I don't know but the PGA Tour has a certain set of rules and the rules state that in order for you to play in a competing tour or in a competing tours event.

You have to get permission, you first must ask permission from the league, and if league declines that permission. Typically, they have not.

But if the league declines that permission for this to tour declines. It and you still go ahead and do it. You are in violation of the rules and they have every right to meet absent discipline in the past, things any discipline has been completely anonymous. They have not released any like there been situations where players have been suspended for an extended period of time, but it was never announced by the PGA Tour so nobody knew but nobody's been suspended like there's no leak in the world that hasn't suspended a player for one thing or another. Whether it's a drug violation or actually think Robert Gehrig is probably suspended for doing for using marijuana but like no leak has not suspended a player just inevitable but disparaging anybody PGA Tour simply never made those findings public. In this case they did. They needed to show strength but actually think that they are within their rights to deny access back to the PGA Tour if those players decided to go play another tour northerly would allow you to play in some other league and there leak that could happen so look, I could be looking at this from one perspective, and it could be the wrong one will find out you know was courts play out over time, but so that's something that happened today. Department of Justice has launched an investigation will see where it goes. This is the gold shell June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became 1/5 anniversary of the presented by the Carolina listen
