This is the Adam gold shell LSU Clemson teams that are competing for hardware championships care about season so I nominates a state within a gram now spend time just about having a 10 win season to Patterson kickoff.

Charlotte will kickoff yet to go for another gosh six weeks, six weeks while we zero is what I have been a week while there's no such thing as a weak Seroquel filled with water to it. I hope you and see play. Somebody is practice what you have an official date. We should have.

We should have practice games you should have that actually they should have a practice? You know it's big, there's always a conversation about strength of schedule and all that stuff because a lot of our five schools will pay player FCS school for a money thing for the FCS yes it is automatic when it's an automatic right okay I get it because you used your records are correct. It's really just crack it is what you get when they're saying that a principal seven or whatever maybe right but that's really your best foot maybe still pay this teams and discounted as a scrimmage exhibition is an exhibition it doesn't work as well for the FCS schools now. If it's not an actual game but I'm just saying that at some point you have to either.

Jim Phillips wants to consider the entire community some point you have to consider number one like what is it what is best for you as a school you as a league of those games to be our really just filler and I get why it's all of the whites. What coaches do that what coaches say no. It's good for the school and it is good for those schools but it might also be to your detriment. We need to get those school codes those games off schedule because likely those games are unattractive, watches yeah right. No offense to Gardner Webb I gave you want to watch. That's just the bottom is simply not a game that we want to watch. We need more. We need more good games on television. A lot of people when they talk when they talk about Boston College football they think offense of lineman they think look equally. We certainly do here, especially as words draw or they think running backs. Maybe BC is more quarterback University.

We had to hassle backs we had met Ryan right we have with what there've been plenty filter coach your tall your tall guy from Pittsburgh, but we had to Jenny Pickett, Pittsburgh is New Jersey got arthritis in New Jersey Pittsburgh people look down on Jersey people. I'm just getting on the Jersey guy. Thank you very much for sit down BC football it's got a history of being so much better than people talk about what how do we change how you change that perspective will think about a lot of great players that have come from Boston College will succeed in the NFL, but they haven't necessarily have the great seasons and BC history so I think what it takes is putting together and having a run of multiple years where where your winning 910 right will there will not attend. That's a pretty lofty number was left there number back in the day, but the met Ryan air. There were not intent, but Tom O'Brien 189 games just about every year were Jeff Jack Kaczynski was there for two years. They were not intent when seasons like the down years been seven when seasons. It just seems like it's people don't give that BC football that kinda credit tell me what the feeling is going into the season among your program were really excited. We think we have the team compete with everybody on the schedule so to be a tough season like your letter good match ups, but were ready to go ready to go for this camp would love to still position guys come about in the offense, then on the whole I love you guys are ready to step up mentioned before offense of lime a defense of Lyman University to you guys are notorious for having great outlines a scrimmage you missed the coverture sitting but sitting with us here in operation kickoff. You missed a good chunk of middle of the season last year. Came back and you nearly engineered to come back against FSU, walk me through that as you were coming back as I was watching the game alone. This they're going to come all the way back.

Walk me through that and I knows a flowers play big role specifically about damages come about just you know everyone with but I was specifically talking about Becky will just come back.

I wasn't hundred percent healthy, but the doctors said that my heartburn was healed so the risk of her injury right was pretty much no so I wanted to come back. I was itching to play right and so I was playing little handicaps but even with rest of such great players that just try to get the ball as a playmaker is the to work it out. We had a chance to be for the state at the end. Yes, I literally thought you guys are coming back. It was used for the last two touchdowns and 17 points again. 26. 23 loss. How good is that these you so good one, but here the ball in his hand. He is the hardest got a chocolate think is the shift is clear of seeming coachable filter coverages joining us here. This is a league that is stocked with so many good quarterbacks. Is there a relationship you have a relationship with any of the guys around the lake got me a decent amount of them being out different camps like the Manning passing Academy of got to meet some of them right actually were talking to Devon. Larry little bit ago. He was at the passing Academy.

You guys have the kind of a report. Yeah, that's way up just met him this past year but rather hang out with them. Sam and Brandon so is really cool it's there's so many good quarterbacks later note, there were arguments last year, why, why wasn't this guy in the top three of this kind. The top three, Devon Larry finished fifth in quarterback voting. He had a great year you would've certainly been on that list that you played a full season. What was it like sitting out for that for for you is your fighting to get back on the field.

What was that like is terrible. We had high hopes for the season and second game second session just for my wrist weird and so amount is really rough watching the team play without me, but I try to come back again about point season, we had already lost a decent amount know that there's mean, I don't think your record indicates what kind of a team you guys have any of the line of scrimmage pretty much solidified. Get on both sides of the ball quarterback filter coverages joining us here.

What is coach Kathleen brought to this program and the enthusiasm and the winning tradition that he has been a part. What is that meant everything. That's where I came and he's really established a culture of excellence it hasn't shown up or paid off like we like it to output is really set it up for success in the future and I think his knowledge of the game, especially defense is huge letter code sets is going to be a political guys going to be standoffish to get to the nitty-gritty and and he's out there coaching is a fun guy keeps her fine and and loose and that's what I love about him because he understands that if you're playing not to lose. You can't reach your full potential. How have passed quarterbacks and BC helped you whether it's to hassle backs want to know love their school. We talked to him about it about right.

Hell, of any of these guys help you going to talk with them a little bit like to talk to Ryan Salm and also that the house will explode just from their example of their play event something try to emulate. So that's been the biggest thing you coverture BC quarterback.

I thank you very much for your time there ushering you to another table is this is this is a day for you so I appreciate what you done.

Thank you. I take care I will become back to Patterson CBSSports.com. He will join us and we'll talk about what Jim Phillips had to say and some of the things that I believe I haven't and won't be talked about enough that just kind of went on and said, but I think with Jim Phillips was getting to a future and the ACC might be okay. Talked to Patterson about that next studio in my man coach Pete through the capital financial advisory group were talking retirement coach. I'm a simple guy but I like colors. Tell me how I can colorcode money and get ready for retirement. I like colors to true so I graphs.

I don't like just buzzwords what we try to do is we try to break down all those words on your statement. All those numbers into three colors red, green, yellow people amazingly come in and most of the money is in the red getting Hannah Montana. Red means high horsepower, potential delegates hi loss potential.

You have to do.

It's a give-and-take you can want to do that or that yellow means liquid money and get anytime stuck on anything green. If you safe growth but also gives your lifetime income as we get closer to retirement. We need some green accounts with greens only: Baghdad result was important appraisal support for you to next and people out of the thousand dollar value going to put together for you very own total plan that has a green zone it's a traffic light. I hope it's green for you 800-661-7383 or text Adam to 21000B through shell live that we stay on the air will hear more from the Commissioner of the ACC Jim Phillips coming up at the top of the outer wall of sound will be a whole bunch of stuff from Jim Phillips on the state of the ACC. This was the state of the ACC address. The only filibustered for 20 minutes about sports other than football.

We finally got the word kick off the first reference to it that resembles football 20 minutes in but a lot of that is its we could say that it's a deflection but it's it's it's certainly something that we should have all been used to by now. Not with Phillips. John Swofford did the same thing. Yeah they like the Atlantic Coast conference is the league that logs its academics.

We I get more email from the league based on academic honors then anything else might I get it it's college I get it and were in a room full of sportswriters and these folks are all interested in how you get a brick bridge. The revenue gap. They don't care about chemistry class they go. It's fun. Finally I coined that term filibustered filibustered he was doing was not unlike why anybody like John Swofford not been SEC media day. They probably don't they probably just go on another championship on the football field. We had asked about achievement. Both teams up to preach again. I'm sure this that's the way goes because honestly that's what's the most important stuff all matters. I ACC just highlighting the differences of topic one of the things that Jim Phillips talked about what he alluded to was the relationship between the league ESPN and how does the ACC get to the point where they are going to be able to know that you could renegotiate what you can get creative and maybe develop another revenue stream. And here's where I would be going and I think we were talking about this earlier with Brian Murphy right WR L sports investigative report would ESPN because there are so many games and some of those games don't even go on the some of the games are Internet exclusives.

Some of the games go out to the RSN's are your YouTube TV. I am I BU YouTube TBC drivers well so if Carolina and BC just throw out that matter. If that matchup is relegated to an RSN. I can't watch right, which in some ways, thank you sort ways all look. I can't watch it right. What could the ACC get permission from ESPN yeah to take a package of games and push it to another network, not an RSN to create more revenue with is that one way that the ACC basically get more games network buying content of another network, which is what the arsons do.

I just know how lucrative, how much that is so just one thing the Jim Phillips talked about where you inspect that you didn't specifically but I thought it would be very interesting to Patterson to Patterson is here CBSSports company to run TV but you're a good-looking man. No I'm not put him on TV so you are you are handsome. I let's ignore the first 20 minutes of Jim Phillips okay to 20 minutes before that you kick off right we fly doing finally getting football at that point, unless he was pivoting the soccer so he mentioned revenue once in the first 20 minutes and revenue is mentioned 13 times in the final 20 minutes.

If you want to look at topics of interest to the media, not of interest to the opening statement like he was selling water to get all the stuff out and it was clear that he was reading off a prepared statement like working to get all these things out about academics and healthy communities. National champion Jason all of these others for talked about Headstart which was really good. I appreciate that okay paternity leave, and then we got people like money. June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak.

Figuring it out on the fly became 25th anniversary of the presented by the Carolina listen my impressions of Jim Phillips. Once we get past it was 30 times in the ACC football kick office felt like a pep rally. We are celebrating National championships, Heisman Trophy winners, the launch of a network grant like there's been a lot of backslapping, probably from 2013 to 2018 or 2019. This felt more like the address that we get from emergency services official with the storm coming in terms of like, here's what we can expect high winds. Lots of rain all options are on the table right and it's like the ACC is looking at Towson wondering if it's going to be able to survive the storm, are they going to take action on one of these many options that he continually said are on the table or are they just close your eyes and pray and some people when storm comes just close your eyes and pray to go to the middle room of the house and then others decide to note that down the hatches clear the gutters take some steps to make sure not flooding under the house check the sump pump and that's where things like unequal revenue sharing. That's where things like talking daily as he said with ESPN about what the future. The conference is good because frankly, it Is coming from media rights contracts, which therefore means your media rights partner ESPN is one of the only, if not the only party that can change right the money that's coming in.

You can change how it's distributed. So that is one of those options is on the table but I would say that it's encouraging to know that they are talking daily be way scarier that we have talked a lot about where you I have talked to David Notaro in two months about with the first mention of sump pump sump on the shelf. I just want to swap that out there to Patterson is here let's let's peel back that Steve is. Could there be I don't know if you can renegotiate the number like the total package you can does ESPN want to go down that they want to start that were set that precedent where hey ACC needed some more cash so we tore up the deal and wrote another deal and by the way, in the act of tearing up that deal do grant rights to all the schools take that opportunity leave right what happened to be tearing up the deal to get a better deal.

I think competitively I think the schools are probably the right spot. What did you do that or do you simply have to get creative and just maybe create off of that. Another revenue stream is, I think that in the other revenue stream that seems the most interesting is the idea that the ACC network would use some of its inventory to allow ESPN to put other college sports properties on that channel if it would allow for more live sports, live sports, what's gonna draw the Mossad yes dollars and that as much as I enjoy the rewatch is in the replays of guys if there were mop or live sporting events on that channel, then I think it would draw more revenue. Is that just can't be incremental when we break it down on the per school per year basis. Maybe.

But when there are discussions about you.

If the ESPN is going be in the mix for the pack 12. It's not some sort of merger that I think some fans are hearing it's a television programming decision right allow the ACC network to represent more than just the schools in the ACC that is a creative way to increase revenue. Whether it is enough. I don't know but it certainly makes sense why it might be one of those options on the table. If 12 games. Maybe it's the even day nonconference games to ACC ACC schools and pectorals what's in it for the pack 12 and that and that equation they get more distribution than the get on the pectoral network is there there there is a pack 12 network but is not really tethered.

It's not available for power words are meaningless.

It was created. At this time, when Larry Scott I'm gonna launch a network you know what we are going to build this network.

It's not like the Big Ten network which is Fox is a principal investors, not like the ACC of the SEC networks which powered by ESPN BYU's network and yes and so the pack 12's inability to get distribution which by the way, I do think is one of the smart Jim Phillips arguments that he has his we have full national distribution of the ACC network right and I go back to the addition of USC and UCLA because SEC networks go cute like actually share this information to trust that it came from a good source. The payout in the Los Angeles market was at $0.50 per household. Prior to the addition of USC UCLA went up to a dollar 50 per help for yes that's why they added that these numbers go back what eight years now when they had Maryland records the number at that point for Big Ten network in the DC market and the New York market was like $0.20 per subscriber. It went to $0.90.

This back then right for when in those markets. When Maryland and Rutgers came on so step one is for the ACC to get national distribution. Step two would be the addition of those schools to the network is a place where you can go and find pack 12 Sports Will Dr. up the value of that ACC network subscriber grassed in the pectoral footprint so again. How does that trickle all the way down to increasing the per school per year basis. It doesn't get you anywhere close to the $40 million gap that is being projected 510 years into the future, but it changes. The bottom line enough that I think it shows an effort to address the needs of the programs that want to keep up at the top of the sport. Jim Phillips also talked about credit rights to use the example of Texas and Oklahoma have been challenging to get out early subaccount UCLA having challenging to get out early. As an example of what you say Clemson Miami Florida state.lawyering up to try to get out early.

That doesn't mean they won't try to get out at some point, but did you read that as he's pretty confident that grant of rights is binding. I thought I read that as he recognize he said that's a very good points and he said every like I've said everything is on the table sure and it was all this is what he was troubled 14 years about play football. 14 years now, but you would like to put be playing flag football honey. There is a very real, like Why are you freaking out about what it look like in the mid-2030s. We don't know anything right. The Texas could secede from the union.

How we play nonconference games another country just I feel like there's just that the ACC is looking at the next five years and saying we we are prepared to stay intact. We are confident that we can navigate the next five years.

We can't right now predict what it's gonna look like in the mid-2030s on the outside, we're saying look at the way this projects out into the 2030s, the ACC's can be totally left behind so sure whatever you want to say and so I don't I do think that he is confident grant rights to hold up the next five years. I think that he believes that there might be an entirely new contractual situation. By the time he gets 2036. It might even be like to be here 2030 really is somebody else and yours else to write about so he seemed to acknowledge that the chances that the ACC will exist in its current contract with its current membership all the way through 2036 like to bet on that. Not not good odds that that's going to be the case but can you get to the next 4 to 5 years. Right now they do seem pretty confident.

It looks to me like if you want to buy your way out at the end of the contract that that's the time to do correct so nobody ACCs my cousin Oklahoma are doing like USC and UCLA are doing right so there's a couple years left for me right so ACC probably has 10 years to worry before Clemson again.

I might say they're going to do this, but it'll be like 2032, when the Tigers announced were jumping to the SEC along well right so we don't worry about you.

Can the ACC could I this is the other position I felt was very extra from the Commissioner. He seems to be fighting, as is my words here like a voice for the voiceless in college athletics. He seems to be saying all of the things that University president right everything that academics want to say. He seems to be trying to be a leader against the professionalization of college football and the efforts to make this holy and entertainment product. He sounds like a politician running the Senate describing why they are going to be one of the losing votes for some sort of legislation that is no quite because it seems like a runaway train that we are moving towards semi professionalization at the very minimum of high-level college football Pro sports and entertainment product is exactly the way it's being treated.

Yes, conference realignment, and the sport as a whole from where the money come from is being decided by big entertainment companies 500 were dealing with.

He's fighting a noble cause and I is there any expense to him spending all paying all the slick service and being the at the front of this noble cause to preserve the college athletics system that has existed for decades. Just honestly just makes you open to joke mean like people like oh that's adorable like all we want healthy communities I get it. Why joke about had started it open to neighborhood thing you know it's a good way to get it right.

That's not the way I would go as I was never let Elliott you know that when he wrote it. He was like nice. We want all communities not just the promised gated neighborhoods, respiration will want to live in good neighborhoods. People live next to gated neighborhoods right to drop by gated neighborhoods living in gated neighborhoods and I came from a very earnest position. I think I could try was a good truck that would cut the hunt broke the other final things about Notre Dame know what you better go back to work. He said he was confident that if the time comes that he has if he said specifically that he is tried to convince Notre Dame to join the ladies of Notre Dame got when the time comes. He believes that if Notre Dame chooses jointly. It will be the ACC and that's the contract so he could be just think this is what the contract says they want right what what you make of that. To me it's that Notre Dame is about Sunday $75 million yearly deal and you don't have to do anything unless it's tied to playoff exits. I think that he is speaking from a position like you said is going on the contract, but he also probably knows that.

I think Notre Dame is independent probably for the for the time being. Again, unless it's less there better way into a playoff is thoroughly must we get to that point that I think you're right parts. How much money you think Notre Dame is leaving on the table for the last 15 years and been fine with that right there willingly do that right and I mean I don't know baby that the deal that they're seeking is according to what I read on CBSSports.com was $75 million annually. Now NBC is looking for shoulder program.

What is that shoulder program was ACC program and NBC got involved if ESPN said hey there's a bunch of these games that we form out to RSN's or the Internet and the future of our sense is also interesting proposition in terms of what their attribution is terrible right the arsons. I think that Notre Dame ultimately loves having this leverage off and then just our life that others can sit back and enjoy this leverage here for just a little bit and I wouldn't be surprised if when we really start to get back to college football expansion conversation, we might see automatic qualifiers start to drift off the table. I was saying this for years, ACC bike, the ACC and the big 12 and pack 12, and certainly the group of five, which is already been doing this as somebody who gets paid from the cultural right playoff contract they might vote in favor of a system that gives them the slimmest right of opportunities to go and compete. I don't think Notre Dame would be facing the slimmest of opportunities like that available at large situation. That's what I think it should be investing so what. Whatever the number is.

I said this is the start I said when we went before Mike.

I don't care who the forearm. I don't care if they're all for from the SEC West. It doesn't matter to me if are going to have a playoff for best teams in the Greg Sankey talk about even eliminating automatic bids in the NCAA tournament.

It's like a basketball from yes there is a movement I can't do that, you would you would never have this.

The lower leagues and with you how how much do you want to keep everybody under one umbrella and keep us from breaking away what is the trade-off is the trade-off that you get to be a part of the NCAA tournament system and Division I men's college basketball but you are no longer promised automatic bids into the tournament know that it would be me. Everything is the tournament for the right of the smaller lakes. Everything is the tournament and getting your championship game money is. That's what they they don't make money otherwise. Could they still make money is because of her example 5 has been paid out every single year college football player has existed only once last year did Cincinnati actually show up right.

The idea of the one unit that you get for showing up in like the one unit that you get in the NCAA that's alternate minimum for getting your conference champion in their what if there's a playoff like payout structure that allows the same way that the Sunbelt and the Mac and all these other conferences have gotten checks from the college football playoff despite having zero cultural for file representation with these other conferences are getting checks from the NCAA basketball tournament cut without any representation at all of it. Just get down and nine and 10) the NCAA third bullet you go talk to you later to Patterson the best man. June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became the 25th anniversary of the move presented by the Company of North Carolina. Listen now my
