Yeah, I would you describe your ascension or your it's been a great journey for me and a lot of different levels. Tell recruits this all the time. You know, you tell me the guys that started the merchant Marine Academy wound up at Texas A&M and became the coach of the lake so it's been a unique journey for sure. Learn a lot of things along the way. Met a lot of great people along the way and excited to be here for this opportunity. You've worked for some super head coaches to coming from working with Jimbo Fisher, Brian Kelly, we have incredible respect for Dave Clawson as a tactician, somebody's created something really cool at wakeful at Wake Forest you were there you you spent a lot of time with what you take from each of the yeah I think you know each of them have their own strengths and weaknesses. I think that your Dave obviously taught me so much. I was with him for so long. I think he's probably the one that I'm most modeled after from an organization standpoint how we do things with them. You learn from Brian, how to how to run a high level program at a school like Notre Dame and everything that that entails an ego down and spend four years with Jimbo competing against the best of the best in that league in that division. You can't take away what what it's like competing every single day in recruiting on the field and Jan so you take little pieces from all of them and try to mull that into who you are and your philosophy are two questions. First is did Dave Clawson turn you and I were talking it now so Dave and I find it a lot away as I think you would know he would share with you very quickly that, from our culture personalities right we probably could be more a part, but when it when I found out that he was talking like that. I just can't. I like talking at what your musical I got he'd be talking heads at BJ's and we would go goes well on the recruiting trail and at Texas A&M. Did you ever have to pet or watch reveille the dog and never did. I never did. Although my daughter spent a lot of time traveling around my dogs daughters a big dog band, so we aren't we all are in my house. I will you and I might have that I might have asked you this question will be first book at right after you got the job but when David Kukla took over a cold occultist startup. There's really nothing there. It seems like there's the bones of a solid program there is a sense of the state of the program. As you take yeah I think if you look at the infrastructure. I think there's a much stronger foundation in place for me than there has been for any Duke head coach performing thing but we were able to do undercut cut facilities wise and just trying to get this thing to some level that was competitive in this conference. I think they did some amazing things putting together in our mantra just kinda like let's finish the job. You know, we put a big investment in got this thing off the ground and we were able to show some proof of concept through a sick seven-year stretch F Fluor very successful here some little things were made.

We came up short. And let's plug those holes in let's figure out how to really finish what we started. When he got there.

What kind of support have you gotten from the community. I know before coach Cliff took over. There was a huge push by former players to make drastic changes in how things were done so is is that support obvious to you. Are you getting that from past players in the basically the surrounding community. Yeah, I think were were trying to attack those areas for supports. I don't know like the history of it or where it comes from, but you know we know Durham is huge for us. If we want to be able to put people in the stands.

We have 7000 students on campus. Yet we had a 40,000 seat stadium, you do the math and were going to need Durham to be a big piece of who we are, our former players are the sole of our program. They put so much blood and sweat equity into Duke and have seen it through some lean years in good years have stuck around and part of it and so you'd love to unite them together as we try to build this thing forward. And so I think we've just got out and attack those two groups and I think obviously they're supportive because were were making an effort to go out to be around the capital financial advisory group.

We are talking retirement coach. Let's say you have more than $1 million balance in my 401(k) revelations. How can I can actually come back and bite me because this is a thing that we did we get the Mirage received the Rogers of the desert before you see what's what.

Her head was not there when your financial garage is thinking that that total balance in your 401(k) and IRA is yours. We have two people that want to get a hold of the two uncles uncle North Carolina and Uncle Sam both ever get to do some damage.

The balance depending on what kind of other income you have lose 40% of your value. So if you're looking at a million-dollar IRA. Maybe it's only worth 600,000 you.

So how do we get around this way you don't get around it could end up in jail.

If you try to do that. What you can do tax planning to minimize the effect of taxation into the future. The tax train is coming out and we need to make sure to minimize the effect of the derailment of a financial accountant for the next 10 people will do the no-cost relegation put together your very own tax and retirement plan 800-661-7383 or text Adam to 21000 for coach beetroot the foundation for any good football team is on both like the scrimmage offense of line more important. It's their equally as important, where is your program right now on both lines. I'm excited to watch us in fall camp. We have made some tremendous gains in strength and conditioning area. In the summer. We've done some really nice things. I think our offense of lines got some experience got some guys coming back got to that of played a lot of football Jacob Monk and Graham Barton defensively got Dwayne Carter down here with us today, and he's played a lot of football. But I think we become a bigger, stronger group to be exciting to watch what we got to that all talk to Jacob Monk is interesting is that I was very good friends with his uncle okay Quincy this is good, make you laugh and I'm glad it hope it does used to work out with Quincy monthly sure sounds it yet, so I'm I'm curious just to sit down and spend some time with him. Quarterback that has been weird. Duke is had some really good quarterbacks of late Daniel Jones in the NFL. Where is the quarterback position. Are you up in the air with choices. Yeah, I have waived recently got two young kids who have a lot of talent who I think got thrown into the fire in the spring. Learning the new system learn the new way that we want to play football and so now I think you gotta see some growth to see some consistency in fall camp and anything guy that can provide the most consistent knows the guy that becomes starter think Riley Leonard has shown signs of Jordan Moore is shown signs that he can do it, but we just gotta get one of them to be a little bit more consistent player day in day out can you see yourself using two quarterbacks. I think it's a possibility file. I think I think you know they both bring some different skill sets the table right now. I think every coach's dream is that one guy comes out in fall camp and just takes it and runs right clearly becomes the guy and if that happens great and will figure out how to make that work. If that's not how it plays out and will figure out how to make that work to my Kelco decay coaches joining us here at ACC football kickoff to more things. One, the area of your team that you are the most confident in his what yeah I think probably the offense of line. I think that's the group uniting got a good nucleus coming back and we had three solid pieces out of the transfer portal.

That's gotta be the heart and soul of the gotta be able to take the pressure off the young quarterback with some protection with the run game. Do those things to make it easier for the first time starter back there, so I think that's the group I'm cautiously optimistic and help with that. And now there's two things that have really taken over college sports, not just football one, as you just mentioned to transfer portal and name images like so as the transfer portal been a positive for you and what has been the impact yeah I mean I think the transfer portal is just what it is that there's no reason to even think about good, bad, positive, negative, it's just a piece of what we're doing now right and so we've got to do a great job in our own program of building a culture that people want to be part of so you can retain players right and we gotta be active and aware of who's out there that can us.

I think when you're trying to to improve quickly. Obviously having that as an option, bring in a senior who's played four years of college football know that's it. That's a good opportunity so that it certainly has helped us this year and I am you know it it's it's interesting right because you certainly have felt for years that our players deserve to get a piece of big pyrite. There's this enormous pile and never felt right that they didn't have a piece of love there to be a little bit of regulation or the other to be a little bit of the industry standard. How we do it Jan it's is not there right now that's okay we'll figure out how to navigate it but were certainly do what we can do to get our kids the opportunities that they deserve. So on the drive back once playing on the stereo or the or the kids wearing headphones or listen to what they want to listen so we do country is just kind of like the Really Dazzling so It's It's Got A Lot Of Wide Verse Country We Can Go Broadway. We Go Game Day Doing A Lot Of Different Things and Then the Elko Household.

Sorry to Dream the Impossible Dream Date. Thank You Very Much My Kelco Had to Go to Dick Appreciate Appreciate the Showtunes Think I'm a Little Bit by Surprise. I Will Make It Back in Time to Sit down with the Commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference Jim Phillips. We Will Do That on Upper Operation Kickoff Next, We Would Be Talking about Getting Rid of Divisions and All That and Then Last Month the World Ends Seven Count UCLA Make a Move Was the First Thing You Thought about When You Heard That News. I Thought about Our Conference about Maybe What Would His Next Move Which Should We Be Thinking about What Could Add Value to the ACC. Also Felt Badly for the past 12 Because We Went through a Year Ago with What Happened with 12 Schools and Then Just Really Start to Go to Work. Honestly, I Just Landed to See My Family Had Been on the Road 17 Days Just All Work Related and Was Can Enjoy Some Time around July 4 and Then I Had a Lovely Trip with My Son to Louisville for Week and Then the Third Was Going to Be Going to Dublin Ireland for Kevin White Deformities Athletic Director Had His 50th Wedding Anniversary and Retirement. I Was Surprise Those at Work so I so I Went over Three All of Them or Cancel Don't Know My Fourth. No Little League so My Son Got Us His Mom to Take Him to the Father Similarly Trip and Then and Then Kevin. I Called Kevin to Say after the Fact. It Is Helping Was Post Be That He Did and I Just Started to Work on and Build What Would Be Right for the ACC. As You Move Forward You Talked A Lot about Everything Is on the Table so When You Say That Mean It's Hard to Look at the Landscape and Say Will the School Would Be Good for the League Because Maybe They're in the Different Time Zone so Are We Talking about the Potential for Expansion or Me a Look like You Elaborate Where You Can What That Means.

I Think You Have To Be Open to All Avenues. If It Has a Chance to Create Value, Which at the Day Seems to Be Which Driving These These Other Decisions and What We All Need Resource Wise for Our Schools and so You Have To Look at Those Types of Options, but Then I Think You Also Have the Ability to Think Differently As Other Options and to Flush Those out You Have a Wonderful Asset We Do in the ACC with Our Network and in so How Do We Bring Additional Value to to the Network Right There Other Games at Their Events Are Are Are There Scheduling Partnerships That May Take You and Allow You to Get to Some Market She Had Been in and to Again Monetize the Network off so You Looking at a Variety of Ways to to Move Forward from an Atlantic Coast Conference Perspective Boards Been Fantastic and They Been Engage RAD's Have Been. Again, Fantastic, and Even Engage in Putting Together an Charting That You Know Options and Potential Possibilities for Us to Consider the Mood of the Room. When All of This Stuff Happen. I See You Didn't You Warning That There Wasn't Room Everybody Heard the Same Time Was Anger They Feel like All This Happen for Us Communicating Explained the Mindset of Some of These People, Especially the Schools That Are Looking Maybe in Their Area and They Feel like They Might Be Getting Left behind Financial Yeah I Think There's a Variety Emotions When You First Hear Is That Really Accurate. Is It True Why and Are There Other Options Are There Other Kind of Moves That Are Going to Make so so I Think You Process Which Occurred and Then You Quickly Go to What Should We Do What Should We Be Doing and What's the Right Path Forward for Us and and Having All of Us Experience It the Summer before. I Think Everybody Turn the Page Pretty Quickly and and Thought about Know What's Next for Us Last Summer with Texas and Oklahoma Jumping to the SEC, It Caused You to Get in a Line That Aligns with Ken Warren Maxwell Ultimately Just Backfire.

I Don't Think so at All. Here's What I Would Say during Those 12 Months and Got A Lot Done. I Really Do in a Short Period Time That Some NCAA Issues and in Legislation Passed Whether It Was You Know Dissemination of the Construction of the Conference Divisions We Got Legislation Passed for Additional Days of Spring Ends and Fall Competition for for Football Stars Practice Not Come to Practice. We Did Some Really Good Stuff in the Social Justice Area, Including the Trip Last Weekend to Montgomery and Selma, Which Is Terrific to to Find out about You Know Just Voting and Voting Rights in Our Country and in What Happened in Selma Back in 65 on Culminated Rage Did Some Mental Health Things with Our Student Athletes and Some Leadership Development so There Were Things That We Really Had I Think Done a Good Job on Instant Scheduling Some Bombast Will Scheduling in the Years to Come. But at the End of the Day.

I Think We All Understand That Conferences Have To Do with a Feels Asked and Is Is so That Took Place in and You Know You Move on from That Kind of Channeling a Scene from Godfather Jeff Is Just Business. The Grant of Rights and He Talked about It Today and That You Use the Example of Texas and Oklahoma Have and Try to Get out Early. Seven Count UCLA Heaven. At This Point Trying to Get out Early so the Grant of Rights Must Be Binding. You Must Be Pretty Confident That Because the Television Contract.

It Doesn't Have Just A Few More Years Left on It Has 14 More Years Left on so It Must Be Pretty Confident That the Grant of Rights Is Binding Otherwise I Would Imagine It Be A Lot More Panic in the Room. No Part of It. But Also I Also Believe Listening and Talking with All of Our Schools. They Love the ACC Believe in the ACC Believe That It Has Tremendous Value Not Only in the past for Moving Forward. I Think They're All Committed Together with Trying to Find Whatever the Best Solution Is for Us to Close Some of That Revenue Gap That You Know Where Feet Were Facing and Feel We Do Have over the Next Several Years. Some Really Good Revenue Projections Based on Distribution of Comcast and What Were Able to Do so. So I Don't I Don't Look at It As a Fractured Group. I Located a Group That Understands Which Occurred and Wants to Act and Move Forward in the Best Way Possible Trust among Conference Commissioners Based on Everything That's Happened I Why There Might Not Be Because of like Last Year.

I Think Greg Sankey and Mumbles They Were in the Same Meeting Room While They Were in Texas and Oklahoma so From the outside. The Perception Is That How Can You Trust These People.

Can You Walk Me through That Young Work through That. We Just Have To Write A Lot More at Stake in Our Personal Feelings on This Were Supposed to Be Leading the Enterprise and so Will Have To Have Similar Discussions like We Did Last Year and I'm Sure We Will with with What Occurred This past Year and Would Have To Come Together in Order to Effectively Lead and and Develop Some of the Word Execute on Some of the Expectations That Are Placed on Her Shoulder so It's a Tough. Right after We Just Experienced and People Are Going to Feel with the Way That They Want to Feel on the Matter. But in the End You Have To Try to Do the Best You Can to Not Take It Personally As It Sounds. Easier Said Than Done, but Try Not to, and Tried to Focus on Think You Have a Responsibility We All Have Responsibility to Move the Enterprise Forward and Harboring Feelings and Emotions and Stuff May Not Be the Best Way to Do That but ESPN Real Quick. They Certainly Have an Interest in the Success of the ACC. So Is There an Appeal or Has ESPN, Inc. Initiated Conversation with You about How Do We Help You Get to Where You Need to Be As There Remains Any Discussions like That with ESPN Is Terrific and and More Partners. Partners in This Not Right so They Want Us to Do Well and I Miss You.

We Want Them to Do Well Because It's Mutually Beneficial so We Been Engage with Conversations with Them and Will Continue to Do That and Again Try to Come Together with Some of These Options and to See What May Have the Best Value for Us to Consider Going Forward Is Urinating in the Big Ten at Northwestern and I'm Just Going to Try to Use Random Figures Here so the ACC Distributes $35 Million per School. Just Again, Round Figure, Probably a Little Bit More the Big Ten. This Discogram Is Probably between 1555 That Numbers Getting A Lot If You Are in India Northwestern. What Would You Do with $80 Million That You Couldn't Really Do with What You Say 40 Share. I Really III Would Say I'm Just Wondering at Some Point Should Be Enough. I'm Literally Very Curious about Is a Maybe They Mean Clemson Is Made Do with Whatever They're Getting Paid Right Now I'm Just I'm Not Mouth the Next Time I Just Thought about This.
