Have financial capital financial USA.com show box. No, no, just not playing air hockey in a bar like you and me coming there Friday night mad people drinking and you know many people go home with what job would be one thought it would let Simsbury to be a Jim Cruz Lucius future Wisconsin badger Crozier of all things you like to present you consolidate the money I might be going about video games µ you might be what I maybe you about a lot of things to crush this is the gold shell as you sit down with breath again, start again they only had it as a game and went yeah to get the wraps I yeah I did not explore cornerstone proper notice and a bar got shut down on Glenwood Betty Cruz Lucius to do that frosted what what I can do the name of his mother was making a lot of noises making a lot of noise and a lot of noises. Apparently the enemy no alchemy but then they would look and their midway through out of the room. Oh and seven when was I didn't have permits to do any of this stuff that got totally shut down the middle of the room for the baby Cruz Lucius got a little too loud and shut down the party at a bar. I don't know I was open you would like you said you I think I said this back in August when I come back ACC things of God in the Big Ten out, eating okay yeah I run back and housing ACC thieves leaving now. We do have large conference realignment news yesterday, a university in this state in North Carolina is leaving its longtime conference for another conference its cable phytochemicals. The quality which also said ties to North Carolina and notoriety will be one of the other teams goes with them to the colonial in about 15 minutes from now will talk to the acting athletic director Bazemore Campbell about that move. UNC Wilmington already in the ceiling. She woke into the colonial view on Xeon and colonial.

I believe they are the colonial right now. Yes, so large presence for North Carolina in the colonial Campbell adds to that gamblers raise the profile of their athletics over the past two years, including stepped up in football about applying during the pandemic there. One of the schools alike were in. If you need to get will play you because they were like VSP had a couple times, it was very cool so you on yes member in the colonial is a strong presence for the colonial athletic Association in North Carolina now grows again will talk to Hannah Bazemore just about 10 minutes since we doing that will got a little time to talk to sport your the top of the show was jump out of the gate.

There's only one place to start. It may only be August 3 when this game once that happened August 4. Yeah, may only be August 4.

I have been July 31 one time and I was like this just gosh darn ridiculous playing football in July, but we all know the Hall of Fame game always comes with take you loosely early. It's even possible for like, whatever the technically first preseason game is to guest tonight. We got the Jaguars and the Raiders. I cannot believe the football season starts tonight. The road to the Super Bowl, began in the good players are playing down Raiders jags United to Trevor Lawrence you might see about the Adams replay, but not a lot. It's game it's just it's just not a real football game was good called football games. We have the Hall of Fame everything. Sports are back now because once the NHL draft in the NBA playoffs are downriver from.sports were done for about a month and 1/2 yeah that's it.

Now they're fully back it's it's football season. Football is on this weekend. There's probably a college game somewhere. I don't always like week -2 somebody if he has me and will pay you. You will play a game on August 6. Trust me, the NFL tonight. Let me see if I can interest you. So go straight to sort the.com for things to watch 2022 Hall of Fame game. Will you be watching for any of these things Josh McDaniels visits home to the Raiders for the Raiders to take the first step of his head. His first head coaching job in more than a decade, really that's what your show that your number one thing is to see Josh McDaniels coach for 17 years. You know when Shelley manages the clock. Our house uses time in the last 70 coach and who is coaching a lot of the progress you want to go into Raiders uniform and let him go to bed tonight tonight if I would throw it play quarterback. I would watch that I would like Steve, I would be right if Oregon still but I would be rooting for all the drama. The two people playing the priest to TiVo doing that he can't come out and play for just me Daniel tonight's game is a farce and a spectacle.

Anyway, why not put Tim Tebo about the top reason draining him somewhere. Yeah, we get like that you know today's VSP and at-large about whether not simply about waving a felling fullback should be full-time Hall of Fame quarterback like you should play for one team in the Hall of Fame game every year. It would make everyone so happy to see Tim Tebo get the columns and then they can put them in the probe is literally a halting problem that we get to be the other quarter. That's we need Megan Manning. Manning would do it and we got another manic guy come in so like all you do is get paid. Test back and forth for about 10 years that we throw that other man in their Manning on one side, Tim Tebo, on the other his number two thing that you get excited operator jags Canton becomes what land this is Jake glutton, who believe pollutant who will likely get a healthy share of reps Thursday night. Need to capitalize an exposure in order to beat out Carlos Lowder the third job behind Trevor Lawrence and CJ were thought is that is the third string quarterback God Jaguars number two thing to watch you lose at least how bad that we were getting tonight I give you is to accept well is get a new territory. Tim Tebo should be playing instead of these guys number three new faces everywhere. That's what I'm excited for jags coach Doug Peterson and when you what's number four they were supposed to watch. Finally, football is returned because that's the truth. They just know they just know we call football we turn on and you will watch this game will probably can't wait for like the NFL had this game got better rating for three of the NBA finals games like whatever nothing else on Hall of Fame game is tonight. If you always part of me because I am also football. Football Simcoe is a little bit just in America DNA right even if you don't truly like American football that much. Something about being an American, especially want to grow for me in the 80s and 90s. It's like I might sneak a peek at my watch play just to see football lined up while I love any interest in this game. I apologize preseason. In general this this goes across the board on sports for me. I need stakes some sort of stakes Hall of Fame games are just part of stakes you can bet on well that make make the note not the only you want to bet on. That's fine.

You are a degenerate gambler you you wanted to find it when you start to get props for the Hall of Fame game. You are a degenerate gambler. Others may or may not have a futures that already out on this game sure I'll add to it. Next up, getting out of the gate. The actual NFL news that I was talking about you know why they like to play a foot football game in the middle the summer because there like you know what, there's probably some headlines would like to race with some actual football and the league is put itself in an interesting position. Now many people are applauding the move because applause seems like the wrong word here, but any people called for the NFL to do what they have done and that is announced they are appealing the six-game suspension that was handed down to bichon watch it now. I purposefully parked, probably because of the beach last week and partly because it's summer, partly just because I don't want sports to get into all the discussions about punishment stuff I've mostly stayed with paying attention to this here couple observation that I can give you one. I'm not saying it was the wrong move to bring in a former federal judge stumbling on these cases VSP and was trying VSP. The NFL was trying to set up a situation where looks like 1/3 party is making decisions because people work calling on Rochdale say your plan judge and jury, and you basically pick your punishments about what's good for your league. Not what the punishment should actually be so they outsource in the third person. The only problem with a fire former retired federal judge is that one there coming at it from a very like legalese perspective that's exactly what the judge did they hear the judges like to say that they're not writing the laws. They're just interpreting them as they are written so this judge ready legal interpretation when people like we want you to do what you like role against the things that we think are terribly egregiously wrong and bad for society and not let men get away with terrible things gets women and then go to get paid for it and judges like to be tied to the actual concert interpreting the law, like I'm not making decision based on what I think I make a decision based on the things you've told me that I should use to evaluate so didn't surprise me when that sort of that you have the judge ruled, but now the NFL is put itself in a situation where they really can't win. Roger Dale has the authority to basically appeal this decision and rule on his own and what the on what Jean Watson's punishment to be to think they don't like Watson's teams have not shown much remorse and that knowing that this was coming.

He got this huge contract was basically structured to not punishing that much in this year with a plan for them not to play very much and still get paid on the back and because there's no real substantial fund of the missed games which again were structured for the destruction of me like these games ceramic these games that causes much as these games that is how it is going to $1 million salaries so that the Catch-22 is Roger Dale goes against third-party ruling and puts it in a more harsh punishment.

It seems to appease the side of people that would like to see more done for John Watson which I totally understand but then it also seems like when you have the authority to just do that every time which is why did you do that before and why you need 1/3 party birth. If you truly are going to give us stronger rulings which is the thing we are asking for actual punishment actual teeth violations that that are bad on their face, and now more and more bad for the league's bottom line right which is really what matters to them like why not just do that for the beginning wanted to bring in 1/3 party, Adam Shafter talked about what the NFL is looking for with their appeal along the league choice. We will not watch and play football this season and we will have to see and apply for reinstatement when she's met the conditions once she's received treatment to address his behavioral questions NFL will want to go heart go ahead and appeal with the idea that they could take 6 to 8, 96 Bayway from six off the field indefinitely. But again they do things they don't they don't take the punishment people will go back to their original arguments which are very sound like wise the dude spoke and we didn't all these games and to do that sexy abused multiple multiple multiple dozens of women only getting six and if he does change the punishment then it's back to why can't we just do that every time like water say your hands are tied in the you to make a decision without you putting in your hands. Make the decision so I will be inching and will see where it ends up will talk Bridget Condon a little bit later in the show will ask her little about that and she's been visiting some training camps will talk some actual football with Bridget as well, but of the R will talk to Jason Reed about the rest like correct will talk about how this situation fits into that discussion as well for my man Coach Pete DeRidder with the capital financial advisory group.

We are talking retirement. I coach simple. When we start tax planning and retirement should start as soon as possible because here's one thing Adam Texas are not going away and so the game here is we know the rules. A lot of people want to ignore the rules or act like they don't offer me with them, but Iris knows the rules and so we get retirement. The region start taking some money out of your accounts so the secret here is to put a force field around as much as possible. By strategically moving summer money to Roth IRA were some of the other vehicles that are taxed like a special life insurance policies can borrow against your money there and never have to pay tax on your money to build up inside to catch face up there a lot of strategies here.

One strategy that does not work is ignoring. Make sure not ignore the next 10 people will do for you your very own tax and retirement plan help you minimize taxation with retirement 800-661-7383 only got his call or you can text Adam to 21000 for Coach Pete. The road next up getting out of the gate.

The PGA Tour is in town baby. He thinks how many states have multiple PGA Tour stops You that right me off the top your head, get states bigger than North Carolina like Texas, California, Florida, a couple right right there can be too many that have two every year, including the Wyndham championship.

The old greater Greensboro open but Sam Sneed 18 times Kevin Kesner is your defending champion on the segment 12 last year. Recent winners include Brent Snedeker, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed Hendrix to golf God's people. In this event. There is Webb Simpson hometown favorite, who won the Wyndham got his first when their name is Karen Wyndham's respect that. Of course, will be cheering for web and any local guys there one person who I will definitely be cheering for at the Wyndham championship is a guys mother qualifier name Blake Mick Shea is acute qualifier is playing the greater great Range Rover.

Now, when give you chip Blake Shays home club is my home. Course maybe this Zebulun country club private course and play other than that my family vacation spot. More than any other kids out there five-county stating when I go to but gets games. I love the CCC and I play it many many times to shut out the Blake Mick Shea. I hope he does well in the Wyndham even the club champion at GCC for many, many times and hope it goes out there crushes it loves you North Carolina dudes doing with a lot of things.

Speaking of North Carolina things. As we mentioned at the top of show we have major conference realignment news, it might not be in the Coventry line. The news that has been rumored that it did much talk about since we saw Southern Cal UCLA go from the pack.

12 the Big Ten but it is big nonetheless and it continues the trend of the growth of athletics and hornet County at Campbell University. Over the past few years joining us now to discuss the move of cable from the big South conference to be Colonial athletic Association is the acting athletic director Hannah Bazemore Hannah how you doing that's about to join us. I'm doing well I got a couple questions for you. But let's start with just the most obvious one as you make this job. Why was the Colonial athletic Association, the right fit future of cable athletics had recently where we are here that I may athletically challenge that is what I think were ready for.

And I'm really excited to see how we are preparing and that is more joy yes I said you are acting athletic director. Obviously you worked with the program for long time announcing every all different parts inside the program. So even though you are kind of new in the road to read your very long years working for cable athletics but to ask been a flurry of a month for you the names that are acting athletic director and then I was jumping right into some discussions that resulted in a change in conference like that for about 12 years after while this transition happened it was pretty smooth but not a lot. Very short amount of time. I question Sandridge today because it's been one of the summers, to rely on this in the discussion that matters whether or not your team is actively moving you still wondering your neighbors give me who's from your conference might be moving. This involves all levels, not just the power five level we seen north you and AT&T is made recent moves.

Each lot is moved to conferences. East Carolina always talks about where how it might involve them the dominoes but but my bigger question is like where were you even begin to find out about potential conference moves like is there is there and I got like I am joking but I don't mean this, I'm kind of series. It like a dating app. Is there a place where like athletic directors and conferences can all talk and say hey who's looking for somebody. We would like to look for a move out of those discussions even get started. All I'm not sure what happens that we were managing and quickly wanted women to respond that, up until this point, Bazemore Julius, director of cable University was put it this way like do you not try to get you to reveal any confidence or anything, but you know like with the quality athletic send you an invitation, you weigh it against hey, are there any other conferences out there right now that we could be interested in joining it.

We want to explore that before we make this jump like that. How how those discussions go how do you decide will we get this offer now, but we need to look at what the rest landscape is like right now that I didn't know you know. At 430 day decided that the right time. What the driving force behind gross of cable athletics. We talked to Mike Minter over the years when he was the as this is a football coach. We talk specifically about the growth of that sport. Talk about the opportunities in the pandemic word cable was sort of out there saying you will play anybody that they were on TV is it is universally saying hey we see benefit in athletics and the growth of athletics sort about using it is that front porch of the University to draw people and why are they continually going down the road of your growing their athletic programs in joining a bigger conference report and an important and phenomenal from all of the Campbell, and I think that's been a big driver in support resources to really elevate see how far we can grow the thing on offense report from community donors, and I mean it's been pretty neat to be a part of the success here and having seen it grow and now you know the commitment to Foran and see where we can go in CA what's the first thing that you do after joining the new conference is calling you the other conference athletic directors as its scheduling tour is looking like, what you start scheduling to get things ready. I hope one of the first steps that happen for an athletic department. After you accept the bid to new conference room here planning here.

I think that really what we need. Scheduling related to planning first and foremost were anything to be a part of the conversation is more joy. This is the athletic director at Campbell the other camels out there in college are you guys. The only Campbell mascot or do you run out of good somebody else really only one because I feel like it as much as the as the status of the athletic program is elevated. I believe the Campbell mascot is rightfully and should continue to be elevated. I need to see more Campbell's gear out there and I love every time there in a broadcast just a big camels. You have a lot of Campbell gear. Having been a graduate and now work to the program so here we have an opportunity to capitalize more on on that and really unique thing. It is obvious to look at the other North Carolina schools in the Colonial athletic Association and feel like they probably had an impact in Kim's decision and enter those is is it establishing rivalries now with the lawns of the UNC W's and North Carolina entities of the world at a decade-long rivalry with the next level and make them correct, but I think you know a lot today and he deepening and be really really important and exciting.

Give me something exciting to see Bazemore, director of the siding camels of Campbell University now are not sufficiently now there are six officially exhibited dictation to begin as member of the Colonial athletic Association.

Beginning next season. Thanks so much of the time.

Congratulations on getting to where you can take take that deep breath and a best of luck and jump in with all the working Friday. Very cool.

Campbell as at a great athletic program. They fit for people are from North Carolina. People know the Campbell basketball camp was like this super cool super well-known historic thing big Campbell's all. It's always at a great golf program.

Great golf maintenance program is a great baseball grant program culminated this year we didn't have a first-round draft pick.

For the first time ever, and they were in the they were in the College World Series political holes just need you to play baseball, turn it once again. They've been good at basketball.

At times it had run to pick up good players on the legs that the football program has taken steps forward along the way.

So a if we say abutting powerhouse down there.

Campbell to be itching to see them now and get play a lot of the schedule against other teams in the region like UNC W you with your audience. He said great day for Campbell congratulations told people to make that happen to be crazy remain the athletic director like six weeks ago. Whatever we have been dealing with the coverage movement, but those things don't go discussions don't stop and wait for your new hires and things get caught up like you gotta go in time is right. And so the camels are jump into the CA now talk little NFL the mostly talk about his book, the rise of the black quarterback is Jason Reed of ESPN and inscape in following quarterback you follow on Twitter at J read ESPN here to talk quarterback Jason Beck so much to join us on the show appreciated hey I want to tie and I'm about your book, but I see the headline topic right now, it's John Watson and what is is suspension 16 switching that's being appealed by the NFL. My question for you when you watching an issue like this. Having done the research and writing your book know the back history of black quarterbacks and black athletes in general. What do you think of a different angle than the rest of us. When you see Sean Watson Blackwood about going through whatever the NFL justice system, knowing that often times that justice system is look not just in the NFL. To be fair, but in sports in general. Obviously it looks different for white people, black people, but that is included the Genesis justice and punishment system and the things that come after justice. Do you you won't watch that to Sean Watson with any of that in mind as you see going down no I do not never been better trained power and stature within the league contract start reading so no I don't I don't look at all like a situation like it we find you before that great markers of progress for me is that Sean Watson situation is Sean Watson situation no way cast a shadow over Patrick Mahon or Lamar Jackson or Russell Wilson or Jack Prescott and and that really is an example of how things have moved forward sure about Sean Watson situation though I am not surprised at all.

The unit will file the appeal topic standpoint the leak have to be cut. Such a public outcry about the fact that you rob the officer leading the OPA only in the context of people wanted more again with no fine now. On the personal conduct policy personal conduct policy.

Excuse me, I understand how she got to that point.

What she felt she could do. It was evident in her mind going but the leak have to appeal their because the reality of it is the public strengthening around. If the article had appealed the situation. I think the NFL would really be taking a lot of a lot more than it already has Jason rejoining us talking some about his book, the rise of the black cornerback and what it means for America to cut straight on the second part what it means for America.

This work with the Bonnie Jones about a decade ago and we put together a piece where we talk about the night Doug Williams beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl and it said that I'd never experience his wife that he talks about. I remember my old heads talk about going to work the next day and how excited they were that apply cornerback, not just one but thrived so can you talk about. I'm sure you focus on you name names quarterbacks Patrick bones Laura Jackson and others that are Russell Wilson that a plane right now. I don't shoot your book focuses a lot on those got specifically looking at what it means for America part. I'm curious how much your book talks about the parallel between the black quarterback and just in general black acceptance by this white America that I write not work around primarily focuses on on the field but that's not what I wanted to do what I wanted to explain the cultural significant of black men who were good. Now I you know when the opportunity to compete for the top of this most important position in team sports and what that meant black men were considered inherently on inherently.

And so black men could not rise cheaply the most important position in the sport that now dominates American culture. Well, what they sense about black men overall body that gain Super Bowl that year that I get go too far afield too much hyperbole for a lot of people.

That black people have been told for so long that you're not good enough you can't you can't compete. You can't. You can't keep up with your white counterpart that gain the next morning I was going to time but I am the same thing you don't like my uncle, going to work the next day in the office supply the way they swelled with pride, because if you are historically marginalized group of people. The people in power.

The group in power.

You can't do something when you do something when you share your break to another barrier it changes the whole mindset now a lot of people people to start thinking like people who could randomly well worn talking about never happen again. But then we saw as we got to the ladies in the early 90s. She warned Randall Cunningham playing in a way that having successful by the time we get to the late 1990 we black quarterbacks selected in the first from your photograph in 1999 that… The Culpepper actually Smith and now we see an acknowledgment by the league okay these guys that can play and help us when they make money. So now let them compete Jason Reed in joining us is that you could sit that night and I just sort of the turning point not that everything was solved in what we look at and you say they're spending first-round draft picks on these black quarterbacks to play quarterback then something has changed in this year there is nothing more important than draft capital and is nothing more important draft capital first-round draft yeah totally what these teams will escape and first-round draft pick on the black will remember making 78 black Québec taken the first-round draft that was done William with a Randall Cunningham was a first-round draft pick. One went on draft. We get to 1999 and now the whole thing. Wait a minute, we black quarterbacks going first-round well something is happening here to see change and yeah I look at the 1999 draft and everything booked for the year after that interesting.

Jason rejoining us from inscape and ESPN talk about his new book, the rise of black quarterbacks available everywhere always encourage you to go to your local bookstore on here in Raleigh Quail Ridge Quail Ridge books is black great place to get it.

Everybody knows what you know what the best bookstore in your town's role of North Carolina second name check the ball but I got a Quail Ridge in Raleigh. If you have to get it by Amazon by Amazon to get get a hold of book. I'm curious Jason and again no one is saying will now that we have powerful black quarterbacks racism in sports is been solved, so I know that's not what the book says, and I don't hear anybody saying that, are there any and all so you are correct in that the American quarterback has a unique position in sports, you know, Johnny American football quarterback is like a person character in America more than any other sports vision is, but I'm curious.

Are there any answers as to how our of the reasons that some of these black quarterbacks now have the power they do and have the opportunity to do is anything that would suggest a shift in how things are done in coaching, we still find ways behind and still of big problems in promoting keeping the retaining gift giving second chances to like coaches the way that the white peers get like is anything that says what the work here and we finally said, I these are guys of value. Let's treat them as the winning players. They are that same approach or whatever same factors that led to that could lead to writing this coaching a ballot that we have.

Let's do it when you are right in doing our part were doing our part. I'm totally with you. At one point in the black man quarterback with Peter. That was the place where you said okay we can if we can get 20 black players are being given the chance to completed quarterback backhanded job with complete job and compete with white quarterback anything without the best man would black clearly stop it. If that happened. So much progress moving and graphically right now to put with the next frontier is coaching 3015 old workhorse of players with 58.7% African-American that ties 70%. A few years back overwhelmingly black Lee black Lee Blackett coaches on 30. Yet that is the next frontier coaching and only grungy and you know you have you have black coaches who have had success but what it comes down to is that no thinking. Among the key motors clearly are not comfortable and I say this based upon the number they clearly are just not comfortable having black men being mixed on a greater proportion of basic nine black click go to kennel 15 what what black coaches want to look weak. They don't want to be given anything but what they would like the hiring process is completely fair was taken out of it, much as you possibly can.

And with the best man compete because the argument used to be what we Black Québec mission in the black quarterback. What we see that that's not true. And it's the same thing with coaching Jason reason and skate and ESPN more time I'm talking about the Carolina Panthers before doing with our quarterback situation, but right now, go get the book, the rise of the black quarterback. What makes America so that we can get that next book that are meant Jason to keep it up. I would appreciate the time. Congratulations on the book. I know it will be successful. I will not latch you until you have read it because on the filling host and I to get a free book that they sent you, but I will be going to Quail Ridge and get me copy. I promise. It is in between on this woman appreciated, congratulations on the put the book together takes a lot of effort, twitter at J Reed ESPN follows work all the time. Following the NFL for inscape and ESPN. We pretty determine your time and God go make it happen. Jason read again the book is the rise of the black quarterback. I call Quail Ridge books if one of you didn't go in there buy it today in Raleigh on the beat somebody out, help me to figure out who to be the regulator over in Durham.
