Would Baker Mayfield on seed Sam Donald is the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers that in question was finally answered and revealed yesterday as if I don't know how it was presented in the building but I do understand logic.

Logically speaking, Baker Mayfield was always going to be the starter unless he was in a body cast. Obviously seven. I knew this day was going to eventually come, but we weren't counting on the days we didn't know when it was it happen or anything like that so I just this morning made were the starting and saw Sam shortly after he made it very clear that anything I needed and support in terms of that aspect. He was going to be there just to show the canteen guy is positive is an unfortunate circumstance through both your and the same year, but for job but the sky guy is he said whatever you need support industry when James missed them entirely by the whole time so I truly truly appreciate that Gregor I'm sure is here is the difference Baker looks the part. To me looks the part.

Sam Donald I believe will have a good long career as a serviceable backup quarterback there's – what a great gig back was it Doug Chase Daniel or Blaine get Daniel J still have a start like never start a game maybe want anyone like mentally forever like furniture and Sam Donald has starting pedigree. Let's call him a poor man's Jimmy grapple me personally it sucks to be quite honest there all the all the trades attributes of the mindset to be a starter in this league, but again, you know, I think it's my job to do everything I can to what my role is now is is backup and I'm a do everything I can to prepare myself to play if something happens, Baker same time.

I have everything I can to help them get ready for.

I appreciate Sam Donald taking the high road there. It would be very very easy for Donald to say they really never gave me a chance.

But here's the writ the response to that is your chance was last year though. There's a reason they went and got Baker Mayfield is because last year you did not inspire confidence that you could be a good starting quarterback and over an extended period of time.

I think all of the. The issues of Donald kind of did they just kind of they become revealed Sam to me is more of a placeholder quarterback.

He can get you out of the game.

He might even be able to be the starter, as you would a couple games.

Given the right spot on the schedule, but ultimately if you want to be good like a good football team, helping Sam Donald to be your guy unless your defense is 2000 rates.

The way I look at it to Shawn Johnson from Keyshawn J.

Will and Max on the decision to go with Baker. I think both these quarterbacks whichever want to start it was going be up that ice anyway. The coach right now seat has flames on it that it's just so ridiculous that he he he he he a bar like in two seconds. If you sit there and that's where it's at with him. He had to make the right choice for them right now.

Before he can move on to the second guy is not working out as even have another quarterback in him you'll be fired if they will make the playoffs and make major improvements this year.

Right now, to me that's the big issue right there. That's the big issue the thin ice of the hotseat. Yes, if if if a hotseat is on thin ice. You have no chance right you know if your hotseat is hovering over thin ice. The new voice of the Panthers on the radio niche are off was on ESPN radio last night talking about that coach's future government out of progress and all the other fellows driven by water numbers the lives of the losses but this is a young core and is being around them, especially throughout training capital offered dark together guys genuinely like each other. There's really not bad apples bear the culture that you often hear all about coaches culture culture culture. You can see it starting to take root and their manifesto jump out of the field so I here's not my view of of this as I've been asked about it and I've referred to the interview I did with ESPN radio back about six weeks ago. Matt rules future as the head coach the Panthers is very tenuous, but I don't believe it's tied to playoffs because I believe this team can be improved and still not make the playoffs. I also think that you can make the playoffs really that much better. So I don't know if it's his last year.

If I was wagering I would say it would be but they need to just show improvement in game planning, game management over the course of a 60 minute football game being better in the third quarter, then they have been. They have not been a second-half football team so that speaks to adjustments in it on the head coaches office so there's a lot of ways to determine whether or not Matt rules going to be good enough to be the coach for the Panthers. Beyond this year. It doesn't have to manifest itself in a playoff spot so that so that that will go to talk more about this obviously is a great Justin Timberlake saw my favorite Justin Timberlake song.

By the way, what goes around and play very nice. Great, just a dynamite on video with Scarlett Johansson Johansson that you get hockey on my mind already video with Scarlett Johansson is phenomenal. Remember a few years ago. This is put me in a place Dennis Mike Glennon welcome. Thank you. I was watching his earlier I had to stop it. So my Glennon Arnold friend, former NC State quarterback signed a free-agent deal with the Chicago Bears.

He was going to be the guy and then Chicago drafted mixture biscuit number two they moved up one spot from three to and drafted mixture biscuit and you know the rest of the story right. Mike Glennon era well yes. Fast forward to today. Stravinsky's time in Chicago was short. He spent the year watching Josh Allenby a stud in Buffalo last year and then moved on to Pittsburgh because they were in that know that transition. Ben Roethlisberger, who frankly had been bad for two years. Roethlisberger is gone and they were drafting their quarterback of the future in Kenny Pickett.

That's what they did that we all knew they were going to take quarterback somewhere. Probably the first round and they did like number 20 and but it was good to take time, so true biscuit.

He was there he was going to get his chance to be the starting quarterback, but in the immortal words of Lee Corso.

Not so fast my friends. The Steelers drafted Pickett. Adam Schiff there. Adam Shafter of ESPN now out here dropping hot bars the feeling run. The league has been that Mitchell Comiskey was in line to be the opening day starter the favorite to be that guy and when you talk to people now here's what you keep hearing that the young kid's quarter" coming on and is coming quick and so I don't know when they're going to get Kenny Pickett what they're going to get to Kenny Pickett at some point this season. I think, essentially, as soon as Mitchell Comiskey has a stumble early in the season.

That'll open the door to get to Kenny Pickett. Sorry, Mitch talk to Brooke Fryer covers the Steelers for ESPN about this in just a few minutes.

Honestly, I think Stravinsky was done dirty by the Bears even though the Bears rushed Stravinsky onto the field got such a good video really is a great bit, but it's a super song and really I so Stravinsky you know did it just didn't go well in Chicago but he was set up to fail. Much like their setting Justin Fields up to fail railing about this with quarterbacks in the NFL for longer than I care to admit. And everybody keep saying the same thing as the waves done today and this is why quarterbacks like Comiskey who were overdrafted. He wasn't the second best player in that draft.

Forget about in retrospect because correct me if I'm wrong. Stravinsky was drafted before DeShawn Watson and Patrick Mahon's yeah it wasn't even the best quarterback in the draft and this shouldn't be hindsight we shoot a scene that NFL executives seen that that year that draft year but for whatever reason, Stravinsky was number two and those guys were drafted in doublethink. So with all of that said just because you draft a guide to high doesn't mean you gotta rush him to the field but this is what teams do the overdraft quarterbacks. They overvalue players, then they put them on the field too soon. Then they rolling them and then they go well, let's get the other guy that ain't the way to do it. And even though that's the way it done today were seeing a failure rate of starting quarterbacks is way more than 50-50. If you draft a quarterback in the top 10 and you'll get the right guy that's on you that's not on the quarterback that's on you and these guys all get Russian field we see in tray Lancet out of season so Patrick Mahon said, out of season rusted out but what is a set up. He basically sat on the sidelines watching Alex yeah was good but not amazing right MEG was the same thing to do was good.

Nothing greater rising and Lance got to sit around and watch the guy play. This is okay is the way to do it now. We don't know tray Lancet could be anything.

Jordan love probably will be anything for the Packers, but maybe will be something for somebody else. The issue is we we put these guys in the field too soon. They're not ready to do it. They create either bad habits or they wash out.

I just don't understand it it if we keep saying we have to find the guy we have to find the guy we have to find the guy will then give yourself the best chance to find the guy and drafted develop him and then put them on the field. Some guys are ready before others. Peyton Manning done on the field right away. Well done Andrew lock was put on the field right away. Cam Newton was put on the field right away.

These guys have to play mixture. Biscuit didn't have to play again.

I'm not saying that Stravinsky would've been great.

I think he was overdrafted by probably Alano 20 spots. Speaking of quarterbacks. The way the Panthers drafted Matt Correll might be the way to do it. Dr. saline prick from Duke University orthopedic surgeon the official orthopedic surgeon of the atom gold show. First of all congratulations to you Yankees baby my Mets last night yellow mean they have to win occasionally.

So we met through the bone last night thrown another bone tonight know Jacob, the ground pitching as they're pushing his start back couple days. Yes, I'm worried. In case you're wondering, I am worried by let's talk about the list Frank injury for by Matt Correll. It's currently a ligament tear to the list. Frank walked me through the issues the recovery. What this means.

So, effective surgeries being considered already tell is an unstable injury when you look at your foot. The list Frank ligament is sitting right in the middle of your foot. The middle he marched when you are from front to back from inside outside and so surgery means unstable and there are a lot of different patterns of this so somehow there's a brakes, sometimes just a ligament sounds like for Matt. It's just a ligament issue, in which case service will likely go into plates and screws on their and as a recovery. Typically, you will see these guys walk on his foot for 4 to 6 weeks and then it's just a lot of therapy to regain the agility and strength and work swelling and I can take 4 to 6 months to have much finding that Matt Correll doesn't need to play this was going to be a developmental year for him anyway with Baker Mayfield beaten being the starter and Sam.

Donald was always good to be kept around as the backup unless somebody comes and blows Carolina away an offer for Sam Donald which I can imagine happening so it's it's good in a way that there's no pressure to put Matt Correll on the field.

Is this the type of an injury that typically reoccurs not usually because the hard work at least days and for life, especially in professional athletes so the chance of reinjuring the same foot with the hardware in place is almost 0, so not recur but is something that can cause aches and pains throughout his career. Okay, that's cool. Look, he is obviously a valuable part of their future. Let me just ask you real quick.

I know we have some Giants financier Dr. saline prick as our official orthopedic surgeon, in spite of the fact it is Yankees fan came on Thibodeau Yankees draft pick guy. I guess he sprained an MCL.

What is that mean so you MCL is a ligament on the inside of your niece, Crystal is neither touching the MCL is one of the stabilizers of the knee sprain and depending on the severity can be to six weeks to return the play and so obviously needed to nurse this you can get them back reactivated but again to six weeks is not something cause long-term issues here. I want to go back to Matt Correll for one thing before we let Dr. saline prick own appreciate your time. As always, is this something that limits his enemies a pretty good athlete is something that limits his mobility or anything like that in the future or when he returns assuming surgery goes well that he'll be back fun, so he should be back fun because the quarterback being concerned about running backs tight and wide receivers guys are trying to explosive cutting and explosives to motions over quarterback don't really need is for Matt Correll is defined as any consequence in his career forward, fancy doctors you can follow Dr. Samper at first by Dr. Seaman, prick, MD but family fancy doctors of your fantasy football player you and by the way Jesse Morse has to stop tweeting. Philip, my gosh ever did like I get more Jesse Morse on my timeline that I get anything. I appreciate your time dockable toxic Dr. saline prick here from the atom gold show here Jesse Morse Dr. Jesse Morse was been on this program before as well. They are the fantasy doctors if your fantasy player. This course are to help you get there injuries. Most of most of the issues with fantasy football teams. Once you drafted your team is. My gosh, my guys hurt. Do I get rid of what is he coming back so nobody's drafting Matt Correll. Either way, I will not be talking fantasy like our fantasy teams on the show know if were for talking fantasy football.

We will be be taught. We will be talking about my fantasy EPL team yes force and look at no Darwin, no Nunez is suspended for three matches really well yeah from the head but had a riser in the Crystal Palace match from a week ago and I'm going to try and pretend I didn't see what I saw yesterday, a dreadful, dreadful Liverpool performance at old Trafford. I'm trying hard to not see that all right. We have some other random borderline important NFL news one. Tom Brady is back yes at Buccaneers And while he said that he was not on the masked singer, which I never believed he was, he didn't say on his twitter timeline that he was wearing a mask, so I question you, Dennis yet. What was he doing all right so I guess I thought I have thoughts on this too is tied to theories to get our my theory was when he retired he booked a vacation that that's my theory booked a vacation. He was out on the road somewhere so they know what to get her to body take refunds if I can be doctors but I don't want to do it so I'm sorry I got this so I can't get sometimes taken refunds on Braidwood first about it doesn't matter what Tom Brady makes a dozen gels worth about $1 billion. It doesn't matter. The principle of the matter, Adam, something paid for going to use it. My guess is that he actually was training to be up which leave a professional wrestler down in Mexico so this week. He was wearing a mask wrestling for CML L and/or AAA down in Mexico this whole week. That is my guess as to what he was doing, hence why he was wearing a mask and was gone. Very interesting. By the way, there is a rumor that he was on vacation is vacationing in Mexico and is wrestling on the side of the rumor that he was obligated. He went over I find it hard to believe though that he is leaving training To go on vacation but anything is possible and if anybody could get away with it.

It would be Tom Brady just budgeted to sell his like the whole we can't get refunds just made me laugh.

She could start her own golf tour. Here's my fear like maybe they were on vacation and he was with scuba diving. You need a mask right. Maybe he's finishing up med school. You never know finishing up med school early Halloween party could be. Anyway, I'm wondering if he was pulling people all that could be at he and the kids is playing paintball in Mexico on vacation in between his bookings for CML. He and the kids paintball. I would set.

Let's ended there will take a short break will come back really. Now that the Panthers are set at quarterback. Not that they weren't set at quarterback for this year, a month and 1/2 ago but now that there set. Is there any other issue that is pressing beyond the head coach will hear from my man coach Pete the road with the capital financial advisory group. We are talking retirement. I coach simple.

When we start tax planning and retirement should start as soon as possible because there's one thing Adam taxes are not going away and so the game here is we know the rules what people want to ignore the rules or act like they don't offer me with them but virus knows rules and so we get retirement. The region start taking some of their money out of your accounts so the secret here is to put a force field around as much as possible.

By strategically moving some Romani to Roth IRA were some of the other vehicles that are taxed like a special life insurance policies you can borrow against your money there and never have to pay tax on your money to build up inside your Space up there a lot of strategies here. One strategy that does not work is ignoring mature and not ignored the next 10 people will do for you your very own tax and retirement plan to help you minimize taxation with retirement 800-661-7383. All you got is call or you can text Adam to 21000 for coach Pete the road for Mayfield thing is a done deal now before I get to that real quick little bit of breaking news disorder is not just came from the ethernet to me why you sound like old-school breaking news musica the hurricane signed 36-year-old Paul Stastny ago to a one-year contract worth I think 1,000,000 1/2 dollars. Pretty much cements the fact that they'll have to long term I are Max Patsy readies $7 million contract will yeah right because they're already over the salary cap of that so that will TIR that and they'll have about five months to figure out the Issues before they activate Max Patsy ready unless maybe they believe that Patsy ready won't be able to return until the playoffs, in which case they won't have to do anything but it gives them time gives them will give them a lot of time, even at 36 years old scored 46.45 points. Whatever was with. We have a Winnipeg team that went into the toilet last year they were already starting to go there. Then Paul Maurice resigned.

He is now the head coach at for the Florida Panthers but good signing for Carolina I got left will find out what he got into scored more than 20 goals for the Jets last year and good good face-off guy, although his left face-off got the left shot so the hurricanes have quoted the market on the left face-off men.

The only one who's sort of their his own affectional tryout Mets Derek step on so we'll see what happens there. Alright so back to the Carolina Panthers. So now the Baker Mayfield is the one he's the one what's the pressing issue. There are plenty of pressing issues, the pressing issue from a personnel standpoint is no do you have enough players in the middle of your defensive line. Do you have enough depth there.

If something happens to Brown or Dionysus are you are you better at the corners which we we we don't know we still haven't seen JC Horn go through you know a couple weeks without Weller backing off yeah we still haven't seen that in my own thought is that Vincent Jackson or dots are done. Dante Jackson that subject. There is a Vincent Truax check for second former great wide receiver Jackson County was formerly more, but don't eject it is. I think good, but I might go beyond yeah I think you're better off if he's your third quarterback ever talking about building a team that is a playoff team any great defense I think is your third quarter.

I don't know if he's suited better to be a slot quarter or maybe he's just your second like you just say he's not to be is not a shutdown got like Jeremy Chin playing mostly at safety, not having to drop into the into the box but I also think that Jeremy Chin should they should use it wherever because he's a great player but I think they have issues still to deal with in their secondary they have to find somebody to rush the passer not named Brian Brian Burns. It has to be somebody else other than Brian Burns. It be great if they got pressure up the middle, whether it's from rhinitis of Derek ran to the defense even though what I think they finished second in the league last year in one category. It's just it's it's not it's good but I don't look at their defense as great. We know their offenses and great AMI. We know the offense of line has potential but it's a work in progress.

The wide receivers are have potential but that's a work in progress. Tight ends have potential but that's a work in progress. That's where the team is so DJ Moore's excellent.

They don't have the guy opposite him as Terrace Marshall seven a hard time staying healthy.

Robbie Anderson is to me just a home run hitter that drops too many passes is otherwise not really reliable, just not that good right so to me there a lot leaves to be desired to be the major issue with the Panthers is is the head coach the right guy and you find out this year and I don't believe that there will be up barring a disaster. Barring an ON something start. I don't think were going to see a midseason change. I don't think anybody has delusions about what this Panthers team is if everything goes right. If Brown becomes a stud. If somebody emerges on the other side of the pass rush from Burns.

If Horn becomes an ON all the Pro bowl caliber corner.

Your defense is great then. I mean, you could push it, push eight or nine wins and yes, as we talked to Will Brinson yesterday.

That puts you infringing playoff condition into contention but to be honest, what will really make the difference with this team is the development of the head coach.

That's the area of improvement that needs to be felt. The most and I'm not here selling everybody on mat rule. I was my advice after last year was yeah you can go that we can move on. I don't believe he's ever going to be that guy is not a knock on rule. Some guys are really good college coaches and mat rule was that he could go back to to a university and you know build a very solid program and be at a school for a decade and have a great life and be an NFL coach were thought working to find that out with Brandon Stanley oh the Chargers.

The charger yeah I get that I get his name right now Staley Staley government's role to Brandon Stanley to yeah you know actually. He sucks find that I would Staley actually know what scope fight were to find out about Staley this year.

The charges have to wait yeah he was sort of in the way of winning last year, to an extent.

So was Sean McDermott in Buffalo. Yeah this yesterday about the bills.

I think they're the best team in the league when wino but I think they are the best team in the league. They have one of the top no worse than third quarterback in the game. Whoever you think is 12 Josh Allen is in that mix right, you've got good maybe not great running backs, but they don't need great running backs good offense of line after replacer offense of coordinator will be Ken Dorsey, former Panthers quarterbacks coach offense of God.

Former Miami quarterback Cameron Hersey, but they've got super wide receiver Stephan Biggs dynamite great defense added Von Miller to an already great defense so they have all the pieces in last year. Two things jumped out at me about the bills. One, they allowed the patriots to beat them by throwing the ball just three times. That is unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable and I say it because they didn't do anything to force the patriots to do anything different and the bills out of 30 with you with the wind blowing about 35 miles an hour is rather normal offense… They lost their luster with the attempted three forward passes and not even for they attempted one of the second half and then with a chance to beat the Chiefs in the championship game that was in the championship game. It was the de facto AFC championship game with a chance to beat the Chiefs and a lead and the Chiefs meeting a field goal with I think 13 seconds left on the clock, manically speaking, there should've been no way the bills could lose that game. They kick that they kicked the deep touchback no no no you you got to have time run off the clock. Even one second yeah has to run off the clock. Even if the fall on immediately but at their own like 17 yard line. Second off the clock.

Something has to run and then why are you rushing anybody they've gotta get like 50 on a 50 yard about 40 yards of offense with timeouts. Why are you rushing anybody you drop a limiting the coverage they didn't do that, they gave up to broken plays but run after catch. That's on the head coach told Hector. So Sean McDermott has to get better. So back to mat rule game planning has to be better. We can't hear after a game while you were not at the neck and throat 3540 times a game.

After they just throw it 35 to 40 times a game, game management has to be better. Clock management timeout management pre-snap penalties those things that have proven to be problems for this coaching staff and they can't be so dreadful in the second half as they've been third quarter's been terrible for them. They need to be better and frankly I think it really started going away in the second quarter for the Panthers so they need to be able to be adjusted to adjust better. So if you're a Panthers fan. Those are the things we that you should be looking for for this team this year and of those things are addressed and may be met. Rule can't be the guy but I don't think it's about wins.

I really think it's about what we see in terms of how they present themselves during games because it's all about all about preparing flight Bureau will probably talk about Bill Belichick later. There's a lot of talk about the who's calling the plays like Bill Belichick is in control of everything and he always has been, even when Josh McDaniels was calling the plays Bill Belichick's part of the game planning.

Josh McDaniels didn't go well, let's just just throw three times this would bill sent Bill said June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak.

Figuring it out on the fly became 25th anniversary of the move presented by the Carolina listen you to Stella play better but definitely you have a single song. If not, you put together this is not rocket all day long.

But what is Christopher Cross, sailing or Arthur Christine. When we get escape by Rupert Holmes Aldrich with the piña colada song. I'm sure that's coming is a random play with my look I'm okay with.

I have no problem with the song on the young rock got things going on inside. As it stands me today to a one-year $1.5 million contract will talk about the Steelers quarterback situation coming up next hour with our old friend Brooke Pryor covers the Steelers for ESPN's used to work here in Raleigh covering the Tar Heels. Here's the thing. The that this is sort of a what goes around comes around.

Thing for Mitch Stravinsky because he was drafted the same year Mike Glennon signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears and he gets to Chicago got Glennon gets to Chicago think she's gonna be the guy he throws out the first pitch at Wrigley Field draft Stravinsky and the rest is Mike Glennon and Mike let it not be in the starting quarterback.

So Stravinsky signed with Pittsburgh this off-season feels like to be the guy. Yeah, at least for a hand to your contract and not he knew they were going to draft the quarterback, but man all the news right now is that Kenny Pickett is on the rise, and that ultimately they're going to get the pick it sooner rather than later so Mitch if you fat in fact do start the season as the number one play well play well because the pressure is on. Will talk about some of the things Tom Brady is back at Buck's training camp. Bertie whispered to me that the family had a medical procedure which is maybe why was wearing a mask into family member had a procedure. Did I hear that you think his mom is dealing with potentially some medical issue no idea so I wouldn't stop nobody in tampers upset that Tom Brady was gone for a couple weeks.

He missed two preseason games. He wasn't going to play.

Here's something else that happened, which I think is like why didn't this happen earlier if you are a Washington commandos spent they announced today that Sonny Jurgenson's number nine would be retired. Nice. My question is why wasn't it retired already quizzed that dude was great. She's in the Hall of Fame. He is while he played for the Eagles first. I don't even get why he's not his numbers not retired is a legendary part of that franchise was a legendary part of their broadcast this Sunday Sam and Frank broadcast which I'll be honest wasn't great was great for their diehard fans and Jurgenson was the straightman to Sam Huff's may be, you know, a little goofy.

Sam Huff was a little goofy, but that was a great broadcast with Frank Herzog in the middle of it anyway. He has his number nine. He is a Duke grad Sonny Jurgenson and also a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, and a graduate of New Hanover high school so a lot of people should be feeling proud about that today I last week, major, major PGA tour players only meeting as Tiger Woods got on his Gulfstream and flew up from Jupiter Florida to Wilmington Delaware landed in Philly and rent a car. It was a Toyota I think and he had Ricky Fowler drove from Philly to Wilmington, Delaware for a PGA tour player only meeting. No, no PGA tour officials no Commissioner.

They had an outside consultant and ultimately Tiger Rory McElroy and about 20 other top PGA tour pros have a plan. They hatched a plan to essentially save the tour. This may sound familiar to you at up to as many as 15 limited field big-money events. I know what you're thinking. Sounds like something we have currently shot no shotgun start so it won't be events will not be limited to 48. There may be a cut but ultimately they're trying to build big events within the PGA tour to get the best players playing together, which has been argued has been a problem.

The whole point of what were independent contractors. Guys can come and go as they please as long as a plan of events that sort of visit issue because you don't have a lot of concentration in the same events yes the big best players play in majors. Yes, they play the players championship for the most part they play in the world golf championship match play. I don't really see each other a ton. Otherwise, so that has to be a priority for the PGA tour. Ultimately there's a lot to be desired here, but I do think that they are building mechanisms for will just call them the rank-and-file. So your garden-variety PGA tour player to use them. The name Harold Varner's a Gastonia guy who the last year or so has maybe put himself into that top fortyish player but I kind of think of Harold Varner is a rank-and-file tour member so the Harold Varner's of the world can still buy playing well in other PGA tour events can get into these larger money stops on tour these limited field events, so there's going to be away for players like this to play their way in.
