To know God's will for you today with JD career guide to the will of God. I should not a good guy got things can be so deceptive word of God is the only reliable guide to the will of God like the Bible teaching ministry pastor and theologian Jamie Greer hi Molly benefits today were excited to be kicking off a brand-new teaching series called search for a king to study in the life of King David and were discovering that even today.

We all live in one of two kingdoms. So who or what is the king in your life are you submitting to God's role for you looking to something else for fulfillment and direction.

We got some questions to chew on today as we jump into God's word together. Pastor Janie titled today's message patient Bible stories in the Bible like the one we find with King David that were studying.

Are there really for two reasons. The first is there. They are to point us to Jesus is not to tell you how awesome they are and that you should go be like them. Yes, David did a lot of incredibly impressive things with David a lot of stupid things to move a lot of things were not supposed to emulate the point of David's life is not the point you to himself appointed David's life is to point you to another king that was coming.

I king that would be everything that we were looking forward searching for in a king, Jesus is the true were and he is the better king because there's a story behind David's story should be the Old Testament and New Testament are not just a collection of stories or cool individuals reduction one-story tie them all together and that is that all of us like Israel are searching for a king.

You die I will hear that our church, and the like, you know. Well, not me really consummately religious and got him the Brandon and I are looking back, I met with the political and if I was good to choose a political party. I wouldn't use any of the suggested having a king and somberly searching for Ricky.

I king is whatever you look to in your life that would guarantee you stability and happiness. It doesn't have to be another person as it might be something like romance that could be something that you're searching for like like career stability. It might be success, it might be something that you turn to like some kind of something you enjoy something that adds stability and adds happiness to your life. That is what I king is an ideology that you like to buy all of us are looking for a king and David's life is to show us that the only king that could never save and satisfy is God right.

That's the first thing the David's life is supposed to do is to point you to Jesus. The second thing the David's life. Guys busy gives us an example, both positive and negative about how were supposed to walk with God and were looking at those things that you know some summary positive examples in some very negative examples prescriptions. 10. Paul said that all the stores in the Old Testament were given to us to give us an example of what it looks like to walk with God will today working to see David deal with an issue that almost all of us have dealt with at some point feedback mean you're dealing with right now. That is when you're in a situation where things are not going like you thought they would go and things are not going like you thought they should go.

Things just do not seem to be happening in your life the way that you expected you ever been there. Your career is not really. It had taken the turns. You thought was to take you always thought you more. By this point your life you been overlooked for some promotion there's something not happening that you thought should be happening.

Maybe I you know you thought that this point you like to be married. Maybe you thought that at this point you like to have children that maybe you thought you would would we would be retiring at this point in your life and and everything would be would be great and you have a tundra Taira and benches have not turned out like you thought they were in your like you hate got you member me that seminary student sometimes it's like it so I got the ministry… Calling to it. It hasn't developed like it I thought it would also my ministry be bigger at this point, I thought something would be different not hate God member me right here got right right you know what you see me what's what's in my losses something something wrong. It's kind like this you're driving on the road with your GPS and you get off on the wrong path in the little British lady comes on, you know you are the fibrous British accent, you recalculated and edgy does you like on the right path that you're your think how awesome would it be to have something like that in real life somebody to evaluate where I am and then just tell me you know how to recalculate if I got to my wife to the date you know, sexy. When I make a decision that that lady disagrees with. She just you know just recalculate and then adjust all of her plans to my decision to be like that night and we say that life like not many.

This never works out like me to be great if, if, in the midst of a situation you could look a little map in the exactly where you are exactly where you're headed and know how all the passive neuron we get you to the place so that's the question were looking at what you do with the packet on picture direction you think it will go. What you do when the path neuron takes you a direction that you didn't think it would go anybody been there all over campus as if you've ever been there there right now. Raise your head that I know what this is like okay good thank you you're excited up even a place write what you do what you do when you're in a place to talk about huge temptation that many of us fall into when we get into situations like that one that can completely derail what God is doing in our life. So many of us all fall into this temptation and that is to take matters into her own hands to get ahead of God to compromise a little to do something that we know we probably shouldn't do, because it's the only way that that that we seem to be able to get a place we think God wants us to go. There's attention okay, but there's a tension between where we are and where we think we need to be maybe even where we think God wants us to be a tension between those two. What should you be doing in that tension is a huge question in my life that you see your David's ear for sale 2040 chapter 26 got three stories in David's life at all basically tell you the same thing. They'll make exactly the same point were not enough time. Look at all that I think you have time look about 1 1/2 of them. Okay, so what will seal far we get all three were basically making the same point for symbol 24 here's what's happening. McKenna catch you up on what's going on in David's life at this point, and for symbol 24.

Things are not going going well in David's life again. David's life is been kind of a hill Valley experience.

David gets anointed to be king. That's a hill it out today.

Get sent back to the sheep pasture where he forgot about again that's Valley.

Then, he has this big moment where he comes out of the pastor on the battlefield invites Calliope becomes a national hero. He marries the king's daughter and gets a job on Capitol Hill right that's that's a hill looking salt and egomaniac to get insanely jealous of all the attention of the David is receiving so he throws the spirit.

David try to pin on the wall. He gives his wife to somebody else uses the state-controlled media trashes reputation and and try to have assassinated that would be a valid right at this point, you're back in the Valley with David for symbol 24 Saul, here's the David and his Merry men are in this wilderness called in, get I and get I and so first two salt 3000 chosen men of all Israel, and went to see David and his men in front of the wild goats rocks. David's got a handful of guys with a welcome set of the 3000 people.

And Saul came to the sheepfold by the way what it was a cave so we need to relieve himself and David and his men were sitting in the universe for Dave total in an awkward moment right now some of y'all knew that was in the Bible got seriously the story about Saul going into this and David Todd to the cave there-the cave and Saul goes into that very cave the pop a squat and Dave. Instead of watching this whole thing with little silhouette with that you look at the door of a birth for the middle. David said to him, David here is the day of the Lord save you behold I would give your enemy in your hand. You shall do good to him. Whatever you want to do.

I mean this is an extremely vulnerable position for a guy like David could you believe this soldier crouched down on the rock read the newspaper right is like a mafia hit seriously, David.

This is the fulfillment of God's promise to you she should have this stuff does not just happen yeah how can anybody not believers of God Jehovah Gyro right will look what he did for your writer. Clearly this is God's will is that David arose like this one.

By the way, the way the Hebrews written it's it's showing you that there's a thought process when David arose means there's a decision that he's made decision to kill Saul to get his knife. This is a mafia hit you sneak it over and somewhere as he's approaching Saul in his spirits.

David has this thought. I'm supplying that the words of his thought here, because what he thought you would wait a minute. This is this is murder. Even if God has put Saul here in front of me I can't tell her that still murder this is that this is a very important lesson from David's life, one that I think you can resonate with that is it is very easy, very easy to confuse our desires with the will of God is very easy because of our desires to interpret our circumstances wrongly, as being something in the will of God when it is not to say things to me all the time. In this regard. I pastor under this decision is God's will not in the basically the answer always comes down to something like you know well it just makes me happy doing it feel so right. It has to be forgot. That's why took Italy. My husband yoga because it is my my marriages and yeah I just don't like hidden begin to notice new guy working as a church to just really seems like minutes or so right to be coincidental. It's fake right here from from certain single people. They tell me they started dating somebody that's not exactly spiritually where that person needs to be annoyed but I like them so much and they make you so happy this has to be God's will and things happen to be in the same place that I know on Friday night and this is God's will.

I hear this and how people think about making decisions to spend money like I want a flatscreen TV and the one on sale at Best Buy. That day I got a new credit card application in the mail seriously you I got Jehovah jot I got stuff does not just happen. I got similar credit card application.

I really wanted that car. I got approved for a loan and now I can't tie just as I'm in debt up Bibles, but at the time. All felt so right there. They just know the place. This happened a lot of people up five years ago he felt while I can't afford a lot more house to this foolproof financial invention called the arm Jehovah Gyro adjustable-rate mortgage five years later you figured out it probably should be called the arm but the finger you know. But at the time it felt so right.

It also I noticed it was being provided for me out. Listeners appoint our desires are not a good guide to the will of God. I circumstances are not a good guide to the will of God's book. Those things can be so deceptive. The word of God is the only reliable guide to the will of God, your passions and your circumstances can really lead you astray. They really can't make you justify things that are just not right. We need to know the word of God. We need to let it rule our passions and interpret our circumstances. So David relents somewhere in the midst of this approach. He has a change of heart. Saul puts us all. The following photographs and pull a paper something.

David stealthily cuts off the corner of Saul's robe delete over and holds his nose thing about this is a dark, dank cave there's no window. There is no ventilation.

They leans over he cuts off the corner of his row after David's heart struck him because he'd cut off the corner of Saul's robe that David means to believe this aide-de-camp. When you didn't kill Saul but to feel guilty about touching his robe. David seriously when it what's wrong with you. We vote for this guy is a Democrat were all Republicans try to kill you a you should kill him be. You deftly like to honor him by not touching his clothing for six but he said to his men. The Lord forbid that I should do this thing, my lord. The Lord's anointed to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord's anointed. Even if Saul is wrong he saying David is saying that this is God's appointed king and these are God's appointed circumstances and it's not for me to take matters into my own hands just to justify what Saul is doing what you do is right, it probably made a David to protest what Saul is doing. David does protest you can see the minute they would make an extremely eloquent appeal to Saul cut it out and he does so from a distance or so to kill David was on the run to get his eye. David's doing nothing but David knows that even in a situation where it seemed to him where he's in the right place. I cannot violate the commands of God to accomplish the purposes of God in my life but that's what you kinda needed to staple in your mind through this as we get. I cannot ever violate the commands of God to obtain the purposes of God in my life.

This is where we always attempted to rationalize killing Saul would have solved so many of David's problems.

God promised David of road anyway and and and was it wasn't sold guilty of death for the things that he had done that are driven to place you like to steal a little bit of money for my company. After all they've done to me is not that bad. My marriage is so bad that I just serve this little pleasure. David's is no way to achieve the purposes of God is never, by compromising the commands of God. Verse 72. David persuaded his men with these words, he did not permit them to attack Saul. So Saul finishes up flushes is on the cave: Royal flush for the way for the rate of their mobile charts so it was a whale away. Debtor revealed to David comes out of the cave and David comes out because after Saul, he says, verse eight, my lord the king, Sawyer looked behind him.

David bows with his face to the earth and pays homage and all the guys in his army back or fanning themselves in the breath of the B of the cave. Verse nine David says Saul why you listen to the words of men who say, behold, a procedure arm in the ways lukewarm is robe cut off is a 10% goal this day your eyes to see how the Lord gave you today to my hand in the cave and so I'm told me kill you, but I spared. I said I will not put out my hand against my Lord, for he is the Lord's anointed.

Verse 11 see my father see the corner of your robe in my hand for the fact by the fact that I cut off the corner of your robe and didn't kill you.

You should know that there is no wrong or treason in my hands. I'm not sin against you. But you hunt my life to take it verse 12 of the Lord judge between me and you.

May the Lord avenge me against you, that my hand shall never touch you. Verse 13 of the proverb of the ancients, probably the ancient says out of the wicked comes wickedness, but only the opposite of that proverb would be the ends justify the means. David says doing wickedness makes you wicked matter how you justify how justified you feeling doing it. The wicked comes wickedness.

I can't get wickedness in the cause of God hears this plea. Here's a waiver 40 after who was the king of Israel come out, you pursue a dead dog doing the hard after fleas met the Lord therefore be judging descendents between me and you would see to it and we might cause deliver me from your hands member question. That's it were to look at and deal with what you do when the path you're on takes you a direction that you did not think it would go.

You got two choices. One take matters into your own hands or number two take trust God and wait to see what that means taking God to be taking matters into your own hands.

Looks like one of four things they are number one revenge when when I say taking matters into your own hands. I mean one of these four things in one revenge like in this story. Taking vengeance on those who have wronged us.

You settle the score.

Your husband treat you wrongly so you leave him or you cheat on them.

Your boss been a jerk to you so you ruin his reputation find small ways to pilfer from from from your job number two stolen pleasure is a way that that we take matters into her own hands like as it turned out, do you find escapism stolen pleasure useful justified in doing so never Joseph in the Bible, Joseph, the guy who is probably wrong more than anybody else except Jesus Christ and all of the Scriptures. Here's a guy who's been sold by his family and the slavery after he sold into slavery is not working at the sky's house to ends up doing really well and prospering them and writes things are going well.

Potiphar's wife waiting hotter for you really, really likes Joseph made it up snugly hotter for makes these accusations that he's trying to sleep with her when it got usually friendly with him.

Joseph like no I can do this and be wrong so she make up lies about and it hasn't thrown into prison.

The temptation in front of Joseph. There is everything going wrong in your life so you can just make up for it by opposite God's pleasure like got him take away everything we do in your life, you should take this in your own hands. You'll make you like good nobody to make your life good stolen pleasure. Maybe it's it's it's it's alcohol minutes drug. I'm depressed. Saul find refuge about here's 1/3 then compromise compromise. You got you got revenge you got stolen pleasure got compromise the girl who says I'm tired of being single and I know God wants me to be happy.

So I get together with this guy was clearly not the kind I should marry, but you know it's going to be okay I is better me a single listen people, good people at our church. Do this in the justify married people who say what I marriage is so unfulfilling that I deserve to get on this into annuity because I knew the guy wants me to be happy is what you be happy. That's that that that that's the strange thing I noticed you got the purposes of God. And then you got you here in the middle that tension like what I gotta do is to get to the purposes of God to bring the commands of… Does what you be happy, but he want to be happy doing his will not find happiness in something outside of him. The analogy argues with you before this, like my wife wants me to be you romantically, sexually she wants, but she was me romantically, sexually happy, but that does not mean that she arranges sexual liaisons for me outside of our marriage even even if if if if I said that's what I got, how to make me happy, but would just be horrible and adulterous. What she does is she fulfills those things for me in herself what God does is he wants you to be happy in himself doing his will sleep so compromise is getting to the purposes of God by breaking the commands of God is number four getting ahead of God before getting ahead of God you force a career change. You manipulate circumstances you engage in self promotion makes of that happen this there been times in my life when I just would happen where I was. So I've always catching myself when I'm around people of influence got beaten up my resume will be talking about awesome I am your John angle for for for the opportunity that I want because I'm just not happy with where I am in a flight maybe you can give it to be something to be thought myself and didn't involve a lot of self-promotion so I can have the opportunities I think I need taking matters into your own hands would look like one of those four things I believe you see those right there with Avery see some of your other choice is to trust God and wait just by waiting on me doing nothing David can't do the will of God to change the situation.

He's running you know he confronts all he lays out a case he just refuses to cross that line the compromise and sin. Waiting. Waiting on God. You know people that that's what his words we use a Christian you know that means will use it as a sound spiritual. Let me sum having me a while back that the thought that was a great illustration of what it means to wait on God. Somebody gave me a gift card to the only five-star restaurant North Carolina which is in downtown Durham is called Magnolia Grill.

I was very grateful for it. Exceedingly grateful and you can see all the restaurants I like gift cards to on my blog under a special little tab click evidence itself is this gift card to its wet food was awesome but what was really impressive about this restaurant is. I don't think I'm exaggerating with this. There was one waiter, and I'm pretty sure he was only assigned our tape is all I know is that by the time I would even make a motion to look for something on the table that wasn't there to stay to Splenda. I would think like I did some more butter. I just think he's right.

There is more butter like that. That's totally different than my other favorite restaurant waffle house where you got one person working to all the jobs right me there taking your order there called out there they could get an inkling about the old the space like five minutes right you. I cannot just attach a 19 times right see waiting on God means waiting on him. The way that that waiter at that.

Religions of restaurant weights on me, meaning that the moment he sees the moment that he perceives that there is something that's an intention. My mind is ready to do what it means to wait on God is that you are so tuned to what he is wanting to do and so patient that you're going to act when he tells you with little force to tell you but you not to get a it's only by waiting on God by pursuing God's purposes in God's ways. God's timing that you experience God's will in our way. Timing almost never are timing. We need his strength and patience to wait with the first message in a brand-new series called search for a king you're listening to that life with Jeannie Greer but we pray you learn to your new teaching series.
