Today on Summit life with JD Greer's single focus of the Bible. And as we see the glory of Jesus in the pages of the Bible, we are transformed and we probably will seek the Lord will do right.does not call list does not come to a motivational speech becomes like leaving this place in all the greatness of the glory of God, who gave himself with pastor Jeannie. As always, I'm your host Molly that's so glad you're back with us today. We refer to the first four books of the New Testament Matthew Mark Luke and John as the Gospels right today.

Pastor Jeannie reveals that the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation is all one big story. The story of Jesus Christ. All the gospel as we go deeper into understanding this message when God can step in and transform our life. Pastor JD titled this message. The word, and it's part of our new teaching series simply called gospel The gospel is not just the way that we did in Christ gospel is also the way that we grow in Christ. For many of us in church. The gospel function for something like the diving board off of which we jumped into the pool of Christianity. It was a prayer that we prayed to invite Jesus into our life that began the Christian life. But now that we have become Christians, we are going to grow in Christ by all these different things really learn precepts and principles and practical steps on how to do this right and what I tried to show you was that that's not true because you grow in Christ by learning your five ways to be a better husband and you control your temper and that's what it means to grow in Christ.

What I tried to show you was that, according to Jesus, the gospel is not just the diving board off of which we jumped into the pool of Christianity. The gospel is the pool itself.

So we grow in Christ, never by going beyond the gospel we grow in Christ by going deeper into the gospel. You see, it is as God enlarges your understanding of the glory of who he is, in the gospel to see his holiness as you see what what your sin against it was really like when you see how much generosity and mercy and grace that he showed to you is when you see those things in the gospel that you begin to change your behavior change, but you change your desires change, you begin to act righteously because you begin to love righteousness or something of the gospel doesn't know religious to do list can ever do that is that it changes your heart the changes your desires.

God wants you, not just to act righteously.

He wants you to act righteously because you love righteousness, and the only thing that can produce that kind of change of the heart is the gospel. Jesus tells in John 15, he tells us to abide in the gospel abide means literally to make your home and it well.

There, and as we do that he says you will grow as the roots of our lives were deeper in the gospel spiritual fruit.

Spiritual behavior comes naturally to roses on a rosebush lesson the hard part of Christianity is not only God's love because God gives his love and except for the gifted Christ.

Christ of the work for you and he gives it to you the gift. The hard part of Christianity is believing in that love abiding and it remained in the presence of that's the hard part of Christianity is not you are God's love it that you believe that it's been so counterintuitive the spiritual disciplines to keep you in the presence of that. I explained you there like wires that connect us to the power of the gospel wires don't have any power in themselves but wires connected to the place from which the power comes see in the same way. Listen to this the same way spiritual disciplines have no power in themselves, but they keep us connected to the place the power comes from the gospel to help your body did you get that analogy okay so here is commendable. One that we see in John 15 commendable one. Regards, John 15 seven which would look at today by Jesus says in my word, just command abide in my word. 57. If you abide in me and my words abide in you ass whatever you wish to be done for you, abiding in the word of God is going to give you access to the power of God.

He also says this to in just a few verses before you go back one chapter.

Chapter 14 verse 23. By the way you remember in the original writing of this there was no break between chapter 14 and 15. This is all part of one discussion right before this Jesus had made the statement look at this. If anyone loves me, he will keep my word and my father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me because I keep my words were what you hear is not mine but it's the fathers who sent me. Okay, there are four things that Jesus is teaching us about his word, the Bible in these verses that I want to develop for you. I don't kinda build on each other will give all to you right here. Don't try to write all these downs will do them one at a time, but you type a people to love and I were going one. The first thing Jesus does. He shows us the divine nature of the Bible shows us how he views the Bible its divine nature. The second thing that he does. It shows us the single focus of the Bible and the third thing, he explains the benefits of abiding in the Bible and in the fourth thing that kinda flows out of these is he urges us toward a radical commitment to the Bible. There we go number one Jesus explains to us the divine nature of the Bible. This is in verse 24 chapter 14, Jesus claims that the words that he speaks are not just the words of an enlightened man there not heightened God consciousness. They are the very words of God. In verse 24 the word what you hear is not mine, is the fathers you sent me now.

This is not just an attitude that Jesus had toward his own words never read letter Bible the words in red. This is the attitude he had toward all Scripture, every word in the Bible, he said, is the word of God, reason, a point that out is because there's a lot of people who like to say that the Bible contains this kind of like enlightenment by God. That's God's ideas, but when it was recorded by human beings got mixed up with a little air. Humans are perfect when you write down the got some stuff wrong.

So you got got ideas mixed up with faulty human expressions because you know these authors have their own cultural biases and traditions and sometimes they couldn't see out of them. My mistakes, but of course now we 21st century Americans. With the Internet. There were all sophisticated scientific and sometimes we just have to correct some of their archaic ideas or their historical inaccuracies because we know better. Jesus did not feel that way about the Bible. There are three words that we use to describe Jesus attitude toward the inspiration of the Bible expression meaning about the God.

There are three words used to describe it in a little nerdy and theological but I would encourage you to write them down because they are very important rewards or verbal, plenary and infallible verbal, plenary, and infallible verbal means not just the ideas, words themselves plenary. Of course, means to hold them not a part of them and infallible means that they are unable to lead us astray that they are without error.

Right now you couple examples of this are crucial to put all of them together.

Matthew chapter 19 Jesus is teaching something to his disciples and he makes a quote from Genesis to quote from Genesis to preface it by saying God says in many quotes from Genesis to go back and look at his quotation, but he's making it is clearly the words of the narrator of Genesis we see Moses. So what he is doing is saying that what Moses said is not even regarding Genesis and also the Lord is the and Jesus says what Moses says is what God says in Scripture. There's another very important. John 1033 Jesus is in an argument with the Pharisees about whether or not it's okay for people to worship him. Jesus to show them that it is okay that they worship him. He quotes from the song song chapter 82.

He says this is it not written in your law quotes a verse from Psalm 82 has one word in its that refers to the Messiah as being God. Here's what's significant about that.

First of all, the book of Psalms is not a law write the book of Psalms are clearly songs that are written by Jewish people about God except the walls that are coming from God.

Secondly, he quotes Psalm 82, which is written by getting a staff nobody's ever heard of anybody set he's a lightweight. He's JV David is like a superstar David. Many thanks. One word out that Solomon bases the argument for his deity upon it. LOL Roger Nicole summarizes a quote Jesus Christ bases his argument for his deity on a single word in a secondary clause and unimportant song obscure figure in the seemingly least authoritative part of Scripture the socks you were the point is not making the word Jesus viewed as being the words of God that he could build an entire argument of one word in one burst unimportant part of Scripture we think well okay why the Old Testament but you know the Bible I got my hands right here is a lot of books that are written after Jesus written by Ghazi Peter Paul Matthew Mark Luke John, how do we know there's got got a right that he was trying to think about what they wanted Jesus to say.

Maybe they had their own agenda or that she could give her Argument, although it's not recorded.

Actually it's what what some people wanted Jesus to be a great question.

A great question look in verse 26 of chapter 14 you'll see some pretty interesting.

Jesus says to the apostles with this, the helper, the Holy Spirit whom the father will send my name, he will teach you all things bring to your remembrance all that I said to you his promise them to think that you get, the more he promised that the Holy Spirit would bring to their remembrance accurately everything that he taught that is his promise that they would record accurately. The emphasis of this teaching. The second thing that he promised them that you get that is that the Holy Spirit would teach them all banks which means that the Holy Spirit would clarify and deepen and help them apply Jesus teaching the places that Jesus never really discussed.

That's the epistles of Paul. That's books like Revelation and Hebrews and James and Jude. Which is why Peter and Paul refer to each other's writings as Scripture the same name, Jesus gave the Old Testament the whole point I'm making is the Bible is very words of God, verbal, plenary, infallible, which means that you can trust it means you can build your life on the basis of everything else we talk about today.

This is God's word will return to teaching in just a moment.

I wanted to tell you about this not mixed to help you take this gospel study further. You know, it's one thing to know that honey is sweet that it's another thing to let the sweetness of honey burst inside your mouth.

The gospel is the sweet message of the power of God just wants only every single day. We know that an experienced take the time to personalize these teachings that your hearing on the program with action video-based Bible study featuring further teaching from Pastor Jamie that comes with your generous gift to the ministry right now to give us a call at 663-3552 24.

Check out Greer.com. Now let's get back to the conclusion of today's teaching you know that if God speaks to you in a dream and I think he does Wherefrom God speaks to you in a dream. You got a one in three chance of it being God. Yeah it could be a hallucination or something you ate that day that image come up in your mind that you think is God is really not that that happens it could be an evil spirit say most of person I God.

Scripture says sometimes he appears as an angel of light and he will whisper in her mind ahead as if he's God and he loves the computer so I might be Satan.

Three mighty God. God speaks to you in a dream or a vision you got one in three chance of it being God. You pick up a book that you got your hands and you read it you got a one and one chance of it being God because it is the very words of God has the authority of God is God's words always got number two the divine nature of the Bible.

Number two the single focus of the Bible. This is verse seven, number seven Jesus equates look at it is words abiding in us, but also abiding in him. So I just kind of moves between those two abiding in my words abiding in mere are the same thing.

That's because the words of the Bible lesson are always about Jesus. Everything in the Bible, points to Jesus. Luke chapter 2014 six minus what had to be the greatest Bible study moment ever. Jesus is talking with his apostles and it says that he begins with Moses and the prophets, and he explains to them how every story. Every chapter.

All of it is about him appointed everything that he is taught is about him.

That's because the point of the Bible is why it's about Jesus. Every story of the Bible. Every chapter of Scripture is pointing you to Jesus. I try to show you that every time I preach.

I don't always do a great job when reciting a person's like assembled together last year which is about David member how explain you one of their stories about David not to give you a new hero to emulate. I mean sure I get inspired by the story, David Cooper, that's not the main point.

The main point of David's life is giving you a foreshadowing of a greater king who would come. Who would fulfill what David foreshadowed in and succeed were David failed to just examples.

Joshua and judges in the Old Testament in the Hebrew came in one book. So they go together.

I Joshua Judges. If you're unfamiliar with the Bible. Joshua Judges are always what Sunday school teachers teach from because they got the cool stories in the universe. Joshua Martin round wall of Jericho, not in the walls down and you got, you know I judges got Sampson and you will be cooling your battle scenes of battle stories.

Gideon always thinks we got. I was reading was explained in his book said there something we do wrong in Joshua Judges and that we always end up taking these as like examples for us to go and face our enemies. When you read Joshua Judges. What is a very clear progression that is developing Joshua. Joshua is like a man's man is start is the capital the Army he's got swagger. He commands that he got a kick tell me to dictate the land of Canaan, and they do they get it done.

Judges opens up just to the Army the top of the Army as an judges Deborah was a woman. Now I know in our politically correct culture like well it's all legal, but to the Hebrew people. That was no fence is there culture that was step down from Jack Bauer to Barbara Walters said that the Army then a few chapter later you got Gideon member he would even have the Army to six, 300, then you got Sampson don't have an army. He just got the jawbone of a donkey and opens up the trash on the Philistines right then you got after that Judges closes and you go to David first annual that's the next book David isn't even a strong guy like Samson. He's at the teenage right with a leather strap and five rocks. What's the hole with the whole point about what the author trying to show you with this downward progression try to show them that Israel will not be delivered by economic, military, or political might Israel be delivered by one who comes in weakness, born in a manger lives as a servant dies as a criminal and by himself defeats all of Israel's's and delivers the whole point of Joshua Judges is not to give you cool battle hero stimulate judges is that Jesus overcame and you worship the whole point of every store. The Bible is that not you leave the list of what your to do for God, but you stand in all of what he has done for you. You want to leave worshiping Jesus, which is why often explain you the goal that I have in preaching for you is that you worship is the goal of the lectures that you leave information on churches are a good church service for you. Copy five pages of notes, Sondra Grice today then you got this goal lectures or leave information you got the goal of a motivational speech which is action steps on churches to always leave the new to-do list of things that you need to be fixing and doing for God goal of the lecture you leave information. The goal of motivational speeches lately with axis of the goal. The sermon is that you leave worshiping you leave all God has done for you because when you are in all of what God has done for you and what you are to do for God will come as naturally to you as roses on rosebush of fruit on one of my favorite verses were Paul explains preaching. He says this love is to this day, whenever Moses is read speaking about unbelieving people, unbelieving Jews in his generation to say whenever Moses read avail lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord avail is removed and we all with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord where where where we beholding the glory of the Lord.

Back in verse 15 and the reading of Moses and the prophets with unveiled face. Now we are beholding and Moses and the prophets, the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from 1 of glory to another.

Because this come from the Lord is the spirit. How we transformed the spirit enables us to see the glory of Jesus as Moses and the rest of the Bible is read to us and as we see the glory of Jesus in the pages of the Bible. We transformed our behavior but us.

We are transformed and we become people who seek the Lord because we love glory.

We do righteousness because we love righteousness that does not come to religious to do list does not come to information that does not come by me giving you a motivational speech, it comes by you leaving this place in all of the greatness of the glory of God, who gave himself for you with the gospel to the single focus of the Bible is Jesus three. The benefits of abiding in the Bible, Jesus explains the divine nature. The Bible between single focus and he gives you the benefits of abiding in the Bible is quickly but I see three different ones.

In these verses will be a BNC. Here's a re-created hearts give a re-created hearts. That's verse five Jesus says that when you abide in the gospel his word.

His life comes into your dead heart begins to make it spiritually alive, the gospel of John drawls a really interesting parallel to the word Jesus and for the first chapter, the Bible, Genesis chapter 1. Not familiar with the Bible. This might be new to you but Genesis 1 opens up with these words in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, how to, God created heaven and the earth did he like to get together some chemicals and potions and put a little Bunsen burner and mix them up and you know that how we did it.

No, he spoke as if he spoke the pieces firstly created the earth and the earth was formless and void, and then he spoke into the formless void world and as he spoke like him out of darkness order came out of chaos, beauty came out of emptiness and ugliness and as God spoke, everything came out of nothing and it was good. So when Sean gospel John rolls around gospel John opens notices in the beginning was the work a direct allusion back to Genesis 1, the word now is Jesus watch just like God's word in Genesis 1 spoke beauty and order and life into darkness, chaos and death. Jesus the word of God is now going to speak beauty order and life into those of us whose souls are consumed by darkness, chaos and death is the word of God that is going to re-create life from death so that the gospel John ends with the most curious seen in the Bible, which is the last thing Jesus does with his apostles your citizens on 21 last thing he does every word is about ready go up says that he looks at them and believes on How awkward is that you like the Hebrew way of saying you know I love you and miss you know that's awkward dance like it is now you see later breathe in the face what Jesus says next is really important reason them and then he says receive the Holy Spirit is doing is going back and replaying Genesis 2, Genesis 2, when God made man out of clay. Plato made him the last thing he does the breeze into his nostrils the breath of life member comes alive.

Jesus is saying that he is going to breathe the Holy Spirit through his word into their hearts, and those who are consumed by death disorder, disease and chaos are going to have life and beauty come into their lives. It re-create your heart for those of you that have marriages that are in chaos and disorder that are empty and void. Know what you need the word of God because no amount of counseling is to be able to do for you with the word of God to you and your heart, which is re-create in order for those of you that are in the confusion of unbelief during depression. You are instead you need to be liberal rated set up just by new habits, but by the word of God that create everything out of nothing and creates life got new thing in your life you're listening to Summit life Bible teaching ministry of GE Greer.
