Breaking news today on Jay Sekulow line. The American Center for Law and Justice has just launched a brand-new school choice initiative talk about today. You can get involved live from Washington DC line phone lines are open for your questions right now called one 806 843-110-1800 68412, and now your holes Jordan secular Jay Sekulow like this secular this Monday to take your phone calls, one 800 684 31 two that's 164th 3110. We are very excited to announce a new ACLJ initiative, a new ACLJ program. It's what we worked on for years, decades, the ACLJ which is school choice cases at the Supreme Court in the course effective holding a brief write out.

We filed a case that is pending before the US Supreme Court right now on school choice of the Espinoza case, we should get a decision on that very soon from the Supreme Court. We filed this case. So again, it's not. It's not something we we are just brand-new to but in light of the recent events of the last few weeks and the need for police report and tip Scott's center, Scott's Justice act that we been supporting we wanted to look at cut of this whole approach of what the ACLJ could do. You know, we could take the grassroots action on police before tell you what sitters to call get you an update on that as well today of the broadcasts, but we wanted to look at what the ACLJ could do as initiative to really assist what we believe is most important and what would people like Sen. Scott also believe is so important as he said to the Wall Street Journal on Saturday sitters concert in our society.

We spent so much time on the root causes. The disadvantages that we forget to talk about the solutions.

The advantage that we have over the rest of the world advancement. He believes comes to education is absolutely essential that we have quality education in every ZIP Code, especially the poorest ZIP Codes in America that is the path forward. She don't just immediately address like the police were for problem though. You certainly address that you have to look at the bigger issues as well. Let me go to Fed but it Washington DC because Dan, this is an issue from the ACLJ were all very excited about because it's about these justice and equality issues that evince so it debated and discussed the people have gotten excited about over over and and have these conversation over the past few weeks but but we wanted to say what could we do substantively at the ACLJ.

This is something we could do substantively.

Absolutely Jordan you are one of the things you're going to hear from parents. The most frequently. I know you can relate to this. I can relate to.

This is a parent wants to provide a better opportunity for their child then maybe they had in Jordan of the opportunity to get an education that is better than they had would be at the top of that list for so long that just has not been the case for parents of children residing in low income district and look we we understand that many of these decisions are made on a local and state level and probably appropriately so of the Jordan, when you have a situation where the poorest among us cannot afford or do not have the opportunity to get the education, as those who living in ZIP Codes that are more affluent that has got to change their ways. The federal government can support it. Yes most of those decisions will still reside on the state and local level. But Sen. Scott is 100% correct. It should not matter which ZIP Code a child is born in in the United States of America. The parent should still have the opportunity to make sure that that child gets the education they deserve. During there a lot of ways that we can accomplish that goal, folks.

I want you to share this broadcast with your friends and family.

So if you're watching on Facebook a periscope right now. Click that share but right now, especially Facebook click the share button now bring more people into this conversation. It's a brand-new initiative entered the way you can take action right now the Brady petition up at ACLJ that order along with a new blog about advancing justice by expanding school choice will talk about the Québec break in the new petition.

It's about underperforming public schools especially dissipated communities are crushing it futures ACLJ with lots or school choice initiative to ensure that every state in the country, allows parents choose the school they believe will provide their kids the best education.

Whether it's private religious charter homeschool or public school regardless of their economic standing were also going to be drafting bottle state legislation to ensure that every child has quality equality of opportunity, education, you could sign this Brady petition up and ACLJ.org right now that's ACLJ.org will be right back. The challenges facing Americans for some time, with or without freedom sword constitutional rights are under attack more important than ever to stand with the American Center for Law and Justice for decades. ACLJ on the frontlines protecting your freedoms defending your rights and courts in Congress and in the public arena and we have an exceptional track record of success. But here's the bottom line we could not do her work without your support, we remain committed to protecting your religious and constitutional freedoms event remains our top priority, especially now during these challenging times. The American Center for Law and Justice is on your side, you're already a member. Thank you for your thoughts.

Well, this is the perfect time to stand with us ACLJ.org where you can learn more about her life changing become a member today ACLJ only when a society can agree that the most vulnerable invoice. Is there any hope for that culture to survive.

And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice defend the rights of life, we've created a free powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn Gold edition life will show you how you are personally support publication includes a look at all major ACLJ plainly hastens how were fighting for the rights of pro-life activist ramifications 40 years later Planned Parenthood's role in the what Obama care means to discover the many ways your membership is is empowering the right to life question free copy of mission life today online ACLJ/Jay Sekulow like this Jordan secular if you're just as let me just say we are very excited to announce brand-new school choice initiative from the American Center for Law and Justice. You can find out if patient about it up@aclj.org will also be talking about it on today's broadcast with both Harry Hutchinson, of course, 10 minutes here at Ed White, one of our senior attorneys as well. The additional blog announcing this was just posted this morning on ACLJ.org by Harry Hutchinson. It's called advancing justice by expanding school choice Harry is joining us now you know Harry, he is frequently on the broadcast also come overseas are Law and policy team as a senior attorney for a law professor as well. Harry great to have you broadcast today (Jordan Mike pulled her to be with you and I will stop that in the high time to make public school leaders and head teachers unions uncomfortable by unleashing real talk in the form of school choice.

While the world has become bold by focusing on removing monument let build a monumental movement that delivered accountability and improve educational performance improved safety for first and second graders school choice.

As I said before, it is time doctrine of public school children rather than focusing on whether, for instance, Yale University, named after a slave trader change his name to something more politically correct is time to move beyond simple and embolic look warm with dance school choice, and if not now, when not the block have excited this is this a great blog. People go through six. Get educated about what were talking about doing any goes back all the way to even know cases, the Supreme Court, by the way is clear the way for this and Zelda Nvidia versus assignment Harris was out of Cleveland and that case again. It was about an initiative that Cleveland had in these scholarships provided by the city. 96% of which were used for children to attend religious schools and the court found they did this for view Harry of Cleveland's public school system, said it was among the worst performing schools in the nation failed to meet any of the 18 state standards for minimal minimal acceptable performance and more than two thirds of high school students either dropped or failed out before graduation so was Chief Justice Rehnquist at the time the Supreme Court held that this was a constitutional program.

So at the federal level at the Supreme Court level. There is been a a kind of clearing the way Harry for states to adopt aggressive school choice policies (absolutely poor but also very very important to keep in line that leaders including leaders of teachers unions are aggressively pushing back in state after state by the success story of school choice, the United States today there are 65 private school choice options operating in 29 states, including Washington DC and Puerto Rico. More than 482,000 students across the country are exercising private school choice, more than double the number of programs and student. Since the national school choice week initiative was launched in 2011. So we made some progress but there are still many barriers including progressive governors, progressive boards of education and progressive leaders in teachers unions who continually claim to support improving or reducing I should say racial death advantage and disparity. But at the same time they uphold school choice or other people. Meanwhile, many of them send their kids to private schools, so we have to keep our foot on the accelerator.

With respect to the submission because it is clearly unquestioned that we will face headwinds primarily coming from progressive and keep in mind it was progressive that gave off a Planned Parenthood aggressive but gave up a lot of other initiatives including labor policy that provided a basis for advantaging minority and low income individuals throughout the United States. Folks were insecure because her questions about this new question about school choice because there's a lot of options. States do different things. Whether it's voucher programs to charter schools and savings accounts and tax credits with the list really goes on. There's magnet schools is open enrollment deductions that are available were also to be doing Harry which I think is important because the goal of this of our initiative is to use as a vehicle to attain justice for all of Americans children, including the least among us with the debates that have been raging across the country over the past few weeks and that police reform which which we support through our Sen. Scott, and that reform of the justice act, which I get update from admitted on later in the broadcast is what we've asked you to contact River folks 13 Democrats to get that over the edge for vote but but even Harry Sen. Scott said you the key is really education getting the poorest kids access to the best education and middle-class kids as well, whose parents may not normally be able to afford private school. Whether it's us up a private school, religious, private school or charter school or just a different public school and so organ take your phone calls this one 800 684 31 to but Harry. The goal here is to really put forward information that states can use whether it's draft legislation to start these programs and also begin pointing out the barriers that have been put in place as you as you noted, by the left.

In some states which have completely tried to do away with school choice In an entirely like the state of Michigan but Meharry really the goal here is justice for all of America's children. We believe this is the right time.

We've been engaged this issue for decades at the ACLJ but this is the right time to start a grassroots legal movement around politically many people lightly following question Donning malfeasance of public school in many cities whether or not that constitute the liquid intentional and premeditated effort to sabotage the lives of poor and minority kids in my view, after more than 70 years of educational malpractice by progressive leaders we must answer this particular question with the following response read the local toll that is the thing speaks for itself.

So if you look back the history of the United States around 1950 to 1916 on public school education, particularly in minority communities has been clawing at a exponential rate, and it is why we are now pushing school choice because we need to put pressure on public school by providing competition by making public school leaders more accountable to the individuals who live in every single ZIP Code in America and so I think that's why it's really important for lifters to engage with us as we launch the ACLJ school choice initiative and white about some of these barriers. What is the blade. This was moved to try to get constitutional divinity U.S. Constitution, it failed but about 3030+ states of versions of it and what it cities due to it prohibits direct government aid to educational institutions with religious affiliations. This is one of the barriers to having the full plan up if you will of school choice available to these parents if a statement is to act as as we like, like a voucher program so they have really do have the choice to send their students to the school they want to send them to. But Meharry the truth is you pointed out, it's Lester. The majority the majority of states the country don't really have these programs absolutely programs are not available to the majority even think that these programs so it's very very imperative to ask and access to the choice program and so if you actually [great public schools used to be accountable to the communities they serve.

So if you look back at the public school system in Washington DC in 1999 there were four academic public high school, one black and three white in standardized test scores given in 1899 students in the black high school average higher test scores into three white gold pattern prevailed until 1955, but things have changed and that's why we need school choice now okay folks to get involved in the issue. This will encourage you right now one of you watching on Facebook share this broadcast with your friends and family get more people involved.

This discussions they know about the ACLJ launching today.

This new school choice initiative to sign the petition up in ACLJ.org demanding school choice, giving every child quality of opportunity and justice ACLJ.org three. Check out Harry's new blog kind of explaining school choice initiative and what we plan to do advancing justice by expanding will choice all ACLJ.org only one. A society can agree that the most vulnerable invoice is, is there any hope for that culture to survive. And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice, defendant the right to life, we've created a free and powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn Gold edition will show you how you are personally publication includes a look at all major ACLJ cases were fighting for the rights of pro-life activist ramifications of Roe V Wade, 40 years later, when Obama care means to discover the many ways your membership is empowering the right question for copy mission in life today online/challenges facing Americans for substantial time and are now free to soar. Constitutional rights are under attack more important than ever to stay with the American Center for Law and Justice on the frontlines protecting your freedoms defending your rights and courts in Congress and in the public arena and we have an exceptional track record of success. But here's the bottom line we could not do more work without your support, we remain committed to protecting your religious and constitutional freedoms that remains our top priority, especially now during these challenging times. The American Center for Law and Justice is on your side, you're already a member. Thank you for your thoughts. Well, this is the perfect time to stand with us ACLJ.org where you can learn more about her life changing become a member today ACLJ Jay Sekulow live so the ACLJ launching a brand-new school choice initiative.

It's up ACLJ.org were talking to Harry Hutchison right now for bit of course on the broadcast, with his Ed White will be joining us in the second half hour. The broadcast Harry, I want to play speaker Nancy Pelosi because I think this is important for by listing right now to share this information with your friends and family about the school choice initiative share the blog that Harry wrote in ACLJR Chet is broadcast right after watching Facebook click the share button because of your friends and family coworkers who been interested in this kind of new discussion on equality in America and police reform and justice and equality in the debate that's happening. This is key to it and even Nancy Pelosi has admitted how bad many of the schools are and how rough they are. Take Alyssa this is Nancy Pelosi this year. In a press conference by cover five contest telogen and lycée education is important in the next message. Finally, send a message that education is important when we send them to a school that is dilapidated is not required for the future. At this is so important, why aren't you respecting me a student by having facilities that are worthy and I wanted to write to Harry Hutchison because Harry what should Nancy Pelosi would not agree with our positions on this because she would want just more body to prop up these public schools. But as you point out it your new blog on this advancing justice by expanding school choice over the past 50 years funding increases of COBIT, the US leading the world in per capita egg education expenditures and yet Nancy Pelosi still talks about the dilapidated public schools in America absolutely one of the things to keep in line when we talk about increasing funding for public at the patient in America. Generally that means increasing funding for administrative staff and administrators rather than delivering funding and increase performance in the classroom. All Americans have a stake in improving education in the United States and to be clear, this festering wound caused by underperforming school indoors.

Despite, as you point out Jordan significant funding increases for public education throughout the nation. But it's important to keep in mind that notwithstanding the fact that per capita expenditures on education in the United States exceed every single country in the world.

Our performance lagged in part because there's a negative correlation between increasing public school funding and actual performance because we are not focused on student the little has changed in the neighborhood at the center of the disruption that characterized most major urban areas over the last several months, but keep in mind this represents the visible record under largely progressive educational leadership bought something needs to change and it needs to change now so that we can improve student safety, parental satisfaction and involvement and see improvements in graduation rates make public school more accountable to competition and save taxpayer dollars at the end of the day, folks. If you have questions about this comments about this particular because what he hundred 684 31 two that's what hundred 684-3110 Eileen Collier from New Jersey online. Three highly welcome to Jay Sekulow live your on the air public school teacher, and I think that the discussion very often is the erosion of the family and yelling. Talk about education and, as in the shape of the triangle and you need all three part hurts working at the parents, the student and the teacher to to be on the same page and working in conjunction with one another is the erosion of the family. I me after this virtual stuff that I've just been there. It's amazing I end up working one-on-one with several of the student support at home to do it. I was on the computer for hours and hours and right now I just was on my heart to do it I'm I'm tutoring to students free of charge. I'm having a book club with other students during during the summer months. So I think it is the erosion of the family and the lack of parental support disdain for authority at turning away from faith in math. All of this. So when you talk about stapling school. Please don't just say that it's the teachers and administrators. Please what we see teachers. I think specific Harry and Eileen.

I really appreciate your calling and your insight. I think your example for those great teachers out there who is and not say there's a lot of great public school teachers who are trying their best doing everything they can possible with this difficult time.

They tried to online classes with students who didn't have the technological resources to do it and edit of the don't have the parental support but but Harry, the decision that they really what's important this is that we talk about teachers without teachers unions try to prevent this specifically popularly thought all are likely collected Harlan Ellison and that family.

For instance, is an important factor in education and certainly that was true in terms of on my history and my success with respect to education important to keep in mind that school choice tends to increase parental satisfaction and involvement. Most parents who exercise school choice report that they are highly satisfied with their child's chosen school for instance in Arizona. More than 70% of respondents with children who use the state educational savings account option was very satisfied the same thing is generally true for parents in the DC opportunity scholarship program.

The parents reported being more satisfied and more involved with their children's education. So I think the caller is really onto something, something that Daniel Patrick Moynihan pointed out in 1965 but it's also important again to lay blame at progressive leaders for at least part of the problem associated with the integration of the American family has been part and parcel. I think of the Lippert program initiated by progressive leaders going back to the 1960s that has seen the integration of the family that the question of the family business. Integration of performance with respect to public schools in America are definitely linked, but right now we can do something about improving educational performance through school choice that the initiative will focus on now.

We certainly do not want to do anything that furthers this integration of the family. You point out to the idea that when you take away any choice for parents to basically your kids are most parents out there can afford private schools is the only option is public schools.

There also much more disinterested.

They think that the school that she just and all handle everything.

Yeah I love Eileen's call Jordan because look for so long. The government has told parents, you have no role in your students.

Your child's education as her parents have taken the message by stepping back.

Eileen is absolutely correct that parents need to step back for the Jordan of public policy has a role in that public policy needs to return some of that authority to the parents so that they actually have a choice to make when they decide to engage their child at patient 164 3110 second half hour coming up and I want to hear from our families are. I know that one of the light now but for more families who have been able to utilize school choice programs to their benefit of their state of their their children, and even of their family give us a call if you be able utilize school choice programs what hundred 6430 with and sign the petition online ACLJ.org for decades ACLJ's been on the frontlines protecting your freedom is defending your rights in court in Congress and in the public arena. The American Center for Law and Justice is on your side. If you're already a member thanking God's well this is the perfect time to stand with us ACLJ.org where you can learn more about our life-changing work, member today ACLJ live from Washington DC Jay Sekulow and secular folks, where time is ACLJ's new school choice initiative you we been involved with school choice voucher programs in these discussion about should religious schools will receive the five the foundation parents will to choose those schools.

We actually found a case that that spook right upholding the brief in my head right right now on the broadcast I called Espinoza verse, but Montana Department of revenue is now up on the screen for those you watch a facebooking periscope were awaiting the Supreme Court decision here to get another one of those cases about tax credits for school choice programs can they be used for religious school sets up at the Supreme Court literally just awaiting the opinion right now were getting it right back to her school choice issue, but I do want to update you because all goes together. This is about equality and justice for Americans Americans as students and young people children and their families as well.

But there's also the justice act which we would ask you to take grassroots action on Tim Scott's legislation, a police reform that what if they had to give us an update on where where the Senate is right now on getting those Democrats are necessary to get through that motion to allow debate on the legislation to fail. It's update people on the justice act during last week we told folks. Aleta McConnell continued conversations with Democrats to try to get unanimous consent to just begin debate on the justice act, which actually has a lot of overlap with the bill.

The Speaker Pelosi put forward in the house, which by the way Jordan, I think that's why Speaker Pelosi wants to get to a conference committee which means the Senate actually has to pass a bill because there is overlap between those two bills.

There is still no deal between leader McConnell and Democrat. So if there if if they can arrive in a deal. Jordan here's what's gonna happen. I it is expected that on Wednesday, leader McConnell would call for the vote of the vote would actually be on something called cloture on the motion to proceed on to distill that down into layman's terms, essentially, that means our senators willing to begin the debate on this legislation, not cast the final vote even begin the debate. The Jordan, as you pointed out many times last week. The 53 Republicans need seven Democrats if they are going to begin that debate so that would be with the vote would be about on on Wednesday a Jordan at this point it does not look like leader McConnell has the votes at this point so people need to continue calling. We've compiled 13 Senate Democrats that are most likely to vote for that motion to proceed to begin that debate in their two outcomes. Maybe that could force a deal between leader Schumer and leader McConnell and they could begin this debate and see where we end up or Jordan. We might have to take this boat and we might need seven Democrats to stand up and say this is the moment where the United States and is gonna do the job and actually debate these issues and once we debate them. Jordan will see where the final legislative product ends and will see if it has 50 votes to pass. That's right. So we've got that list up that that then I got a Pharisee put together for you to call at ACLJ that August 13 Democrat senators seven are needed to get this through on this initial vote which looks like it will be Wednesday. Now she still have time to call those offices that all the information up@aclj.org, including the direct number to the synopsis you will just be called the switch ports. We encourage you to take grassroots action. There ACLJ.org by the way, almost 67,000 people that if side that petition on the justice act so people of God involved got engaged but encourage people that petitioner still up to ACLJ.org to take that action as well. I want to take rid take your calls, we start to your because we come back the next breakthrough start time so Janine is up in Olympus ready I will take more of your calls to it. Two lines open right after your talk to us on the air that questions about school choice. If you have had experience with school choice baby or teacher in a school where you've had a lot of students who utilize school choice programs to attend or you're a family that utilizes school choice program in your state or your family that wishes you did have your state but you don't give us a call one 800 684 31 two that's what hundred 64 3110. We encourage all of you listing to sign our brand-new petition up@aclj.org demanding school choice and giving every child equal opportunity and justice. We need you to join us in this fight.

This is something we can work on substantively legally policy draft legislation that will post on ACLJ that are draft statutes do it all. We want you to stand with us sign that petition now demand school choice for all of America's kids ACLJ.org sign the petition now will be right back Jay Sekulow lot challenges facing Americans as time went on about our freedoms for constitutional rights are under attack more important than ever to stay with the American Center for Law and Justice ACLJ is on the frontlines protecting your freedoms and rights in courts in Congress and in the public and exceptional track record of success. But here's the bottom line we could not do our work without your support, we remain committed to protecting your religious and constitutional freedoms that remains our top priority, especially now during these challenging times.

The American Center for Law and Justice is on your side, you're already a member. Thank you.

Well, this is the perfect time to stand with us ACLJ.org where you can learn more about her life changing, member today ACLJ only one. A society can agree that the most vulnerable voice. Is there any hope for that culture to survive. And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice, defendant the right to life, we've created a free and powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn is called mission will show you how you are personally action includes all major ACLJ cases were fighting for the rights of pro-life activist ramifications 40 years later, when Obama care means to discover many ways your membership is empowering the right question mission in life today online/so this broadcast Nancy Pelosi about what message it sends to SIDS hotel children and art America's children how important education is its the crumbling schools. Schools about heating goes where the wires are exposed. Schools don't have the right technology is crumbling schools and that it's it's a mixed message whites education so important yet your city. Many schools now those same kind leaders like Nancy Pelosi did oppose opening up program so that students could a parents could have the opportunity to choose different schools for their children. It might be a different public school might be a charter school invite be a religious private school.

It might be a secular private school either so many different options available, but there is a significant effort to oppose these. It's why the majority of states, the United States still do not have school choice programs if you don't think this is going to be a key issue leading into this upcoming election will take a listen from Pres. Trump on Saturday in Tulsa Oklahoma bite number one city public school like over to the students are falling behind in reading and I think the numbers are worse than that, but not least children in the future they deserve. Then allow them to a shot public private religious school of their choice.

Different kind approach first of the foes that will go to Ed White, whose joy to get to see your accounts with ACLJ. Also working on this initiative. Janine called from Arizona online budgeting welcome to Jay Sekulow live Jordan and by the way, we donate LJ thank you so much for your work.

Thank you.

We have counted out and when we were going to our local public will) is on the very high functioning. The public school that is great and said will put them in the gifted program and we talked about behavior issues.

He was having at the time. Oh, little payment, special ed technical which is it that's crazy you want in the gifted program. But then you winding special ed and the administrator finally said your son is the sort of person would probably file between the cracks and into a charter school, and they focused on his ability that doing so well in school he got a full scholarship to get an accounting degree in college. He did great, because the school was smaller. They communicated frequently with the parents actually think I understand he doesn't have special needs, to the same school, and she did great to that's excellent story Judy. That's plastic the quality of had this experience because I go to Ed White and Ed, this is why the ACLJ is launching this initiative because of Janine story and hurt her to hurt son, but both of her children. Both were sides about her son who get a public school is going to push them along a different way. The parents recognize there were to be issues with that. And so they utilize school choice and saw this excellent outcome, but that's why we believe it should be available to every American student regardless of what ZIP Code they live it, correct, and because ultimately control the education of her child in upstate and by giving parents, especially underprivileged parents the opportunity to give their child the best education possible. That is a goal that every American should know and I want to talk to you about some of the barriers we talked about this as we were launching this initiative. At the mixer for Law and Justice is one of the barriers to some of the school choice program to something called the blade a bit itself.

We deal with this regularly at the ACLJ people may kind of heard about this before but explain to people what what that is what that does because it affects 30+ states and also a number of cities and municipalities as well.

37 states that some form of a plan amendment in their constitution so I blame he was a congressman and also a senator from Maine back in the 1870s, and after the Civil War there were a lot of immigrants come here primarily Catholic immigrants, Irish immigrants and the he wanted to have a federal amendment to our Constitution that no money or property could go towards religious schools, and the idea there was a Protestant's were controlling the public schools and he did not want Catholics to have any influence over students and so these amendments passed at the state level. They did not pass nationally over the course of time you've had these amendments and they block voucher programs on my state of Michigan. We have the most restrictive Lane amendment where money cannot directly or indirectly go towards any of religious school, so we do not have voucher programs. We can't however to get around that the state of Michigan and other states have started charter school programs in the public school as a way to give a quality public school education to students, and those are educations where there's disciplines of the most famous one of the cornerstone schools in Detroit, a person walked into the school. You would think you're in a Catholic school.

Everyone wears uniforms.

There's discipline the kids lead to read/write, etc. and they go off to have a good job to go off to college, or homeschooling became very big in the state of Michigan where it is very organized.

There are sports leagues for homeschool kids and because they do not want to go to the public school because you're not going to get an education so early at the quote from Nancy Pelosi and money is not the answer. If you just look at the public schools in the city of Detroit per student.

The state of Michigan pays roughly $15,000 per student go to public schools, which I'm pretty sure is more than going to the University, which is arguably one of the best schools in the world and there in Detroit. They have like the lowest reading level among any city in the country. What we call about this and actually Sue, I see we can help her walk through the Sue caller from Oklahoma online force welcome to Jay Sekulow Lodge on the air educator that is probably one of the best greatest heart separation sometimes between educators being conservative Democrat because of the fascia how you testify how do you explain that if everyone given vouchers and lots of parents pull out of the inner city school not ravaged inner-city school and become an art city. For example, kids don't have transportation options and so there again. You're setting up only those who can help himself to train patient at their school and we have not even with the charter schools that are available there only available in school students to achieve. They have no choice but to formulate and get one argument that I find hard to explain to an educator who wants to see every child succeed. Tales like we will further ravage happening if all the sudden got out of school and I appreciate that it's is always arguing receipt opposition. What is, as Ed was talking about you.

You look at city specific examples like Detroit edit specific charter schools were set up so that those students could attend so that was easy to attend but it's why were supporting the expansion of school choice. We believe that these public schools and get plenty of money they split. They spend plenty of resources they don't need any more money they need to up their game to compete with the other schools should be allowed level playing field. We pay for their taxpayer dollars. If they can't compete charter school to come in, or a private school could come in with vouchers and students have access to it. In those communities. And it makes it tough for the public school did so be it. If the public school won't up its game and help because there's no excuse for a public school that's Artie failing to keep failing an Seo. Let's just can't let them keep failing add, because if we if we allow voucher programs will just be worse. Everything should be ready get the first place on the school choice is American value competition and public schools up to step up their game to start educating students at the charter school can do it at a private school can do it public schools and public schools have not always been bad. My parents grew up in the beginning part of the last century, one through our public schools in New York City and got very good education. My father graduated high school, high school, he was able to read, read and write from a New York City public school education by my dad with two public schools in New York and Chicago, Atlanta my bond as well. She's a public school teacher and and again it was a different type of euros.

He reports at the blog for caller these.

This is often ACLJ.org a great Society programs have been in place for 55 years after trillions of dollars in aid, including federal aid to public schools. Little has changed in the neighborhoods at the center of the disruptions characterized most major urban area so Ed, we believe that this edition of which were just now launching at the ACLJ it's a way to get justice and equality. As you said real competition, but the goal is for a quality of education for all Americans. If you think this issue is is that's it's gotta be a focus the 2020 election. Also, this bigger civil rights have 2020 civil rights debate and discussion that is probably better words going on how to how to get that were equality how to get more justice in our country when it comes especially to African-Americans and other minorities, but it especially when it comes to underserved underprivileged computer. It communities take Alyssa bite number two from Pres. Trump very popular but some people it's like a disaster because what it does to unions that have a lot of power of the Democrats even though they know it's wrong. Republicans believe access to education is a civil right. It's a civil right.

Go back to Mrs. Tapscott in 2014. Consider Scott is also the sponsored author of the justice act for police reform.

We been talking about listening to back in 2014 on how important education is nine I was very interested in creating a foundation of education for those folks in the middle income arena as well as Jim's living apartment kids like myself who perhaps live in the wrong ZIP Code and underperforming schools. I'd love to give parents the tools choice when parents have choice in education. I think their kids have a better chance of success. Had it not been for education.

I would not be sitting here today I think of education as a gateway to the American dream [date wider for kids living in poverty those bladed benefits that were talked about with Ed white, which switch bar any of these resources from going to state resources did pass the federal level state resources at 37 states to going to religious schools was a tire purpose was to fit them from going to the Catholic schools directly or indirectly, how how to get it when it was focus because Irish immigrants also racist history to the blade a bit discriminatory history to the blame of it, the same folks calling for police reform should also be porting these kind of issues out that we have on our honor laws still in place for for somebody years that were discriminatory when they begin they were discriminatory and is it's also racist because of of the group they were targeting at the time who is immigrating to the United States. I would start taking your phone calls 164 3110 Linda Collier from New York outline three.

Linda thinks her whole body on the air and their prayer earlier talking about how the public school choice. I can tell you is a public school teacher absolutely true. What we hear from the that there is more school choice options to more charter schools.

We will end up teaching the bottom of the barrel so you juicy, why, why would those parents whose kids are struggling the most, not also decide to send their kids to schools, the report helpful baby with kids had learning disabilities are needed more attention caller who called her child was told well they should be put and that what we find is that we do get back from the charter school I'm able to attend the program more problem in general overpopulation over whelming parents more school choice, actually I need a public school. More on the needs of their public school teacher solicit if we had more school choice bill to focus more of the kids who we might have to specialize programs for maybe the charter schools are the more in the school for like advanced placement schools. Those Kathy's best for, but we need to be able to work it so actually give you and say this is important.

Public schools will have greater flexibility to tailor their classes to the students most in need of the of this because they have so many resources at those public schools when there were there overrun with students. Those resources go very quickly and so they can't tailor the program to those who did the most. I actually think the point the college Macon Jordan is one of the strongest reasons to advocate for school choice.

Look, there's a huge pot of money that Artie comes out of the federal government for these purposes, about $68 billion endured by the way, a $23 billion it comes out of title I which is supposed to help these specific low income schools but they're so layered down by mandates they don't end up given the flexibility of the callers talking about. It's why one of the things that were looking at supporting Jordan is a piece of legislation called the A+ act sponsored by Sen. Daines and Congressman Walker, which would basically take that $23 billion and allow states to retailer it to the kind of flexibility.

The caller is talking about.

You do need to maybe reduce class size you need to do need to think about other ways to service those communities in creating a marketplace for new schools. Jordan how much freedom could that $23 billion. If you allowed a state to get out of the mandate and say this is our strategy working to apply it to that it would go a long way let's go to just call in Florida on line 6 to 400 Jay Sekulow Lodge on the air.

Michael, one of the points I wanted to make was that while were trying to achieve this very careful about taking federal funding because I don't think that allowing the government to have any access into the schools will be a benefit. I think that's what the problem is now so you support the more the voucher programs to give the money back. That's are dictated by taxes so that you get the southerly which we by the way to to believe is is the best option stand is that a voucher program where you, the parents get money on the front and to utilize because of these tax credit programs, and others. You know that that's it so much helping people or low income and pay very little taxes but a program that on the front. It gives you these resources to use on education to choose and by the way, for those public school teachers out there… Broadcast right now. You can choose a public school and this could be a better public school or one that has a program be better for your your child, but then that's what we sweet we support as well. We believe the voucher program is the best that you should also have these other programs as well. Available yet think it's all the above Jordan in the voucher program is the best because going back to Janine's call gives the ultimate decision-making authority to the parent. The person who knows that child best, so we think the dollars should follow the child, not the education system and ultimately that would be the best result to look this is going to take a lot of different forms and a lot of different states. But if the parent is the one that has the authority I go back to what you said a minute ago they might make the choice to go to a school that does not take any federal dollars, or Jordan, they might look around and say this particular school. They are taking federal dollars but they're doing it in a way that provides my child with the best opportunity to succeed. So that's the choice to make. I would submit to the caller and I think he probably agrees with this the parents should be the one making a decision no matter which decision that parent makes folks we encourage you right now to sign or braided petition joined us in this battle. Join us in this fight to give every child equal equality of opportunity and justice ACLJ we have launched today are school choice initiative drafting model state legislation to ensure that every child is equality of opportunity, education preschool voucher refiling briefs the Supreme Court.

We arty have all that my head now worked the federal level, the state level opportunity should be dictated by what ZIP Code you live in. Sign the petition now man, school choice, justice and equality of opportunity for every American child ACLJ is been on the frontline protecting your freedom is defending your rights in court in Congress and in the public arena.
