Send them our American stories.com for some of our favorites in our next story comes from a listener named Jamie Scott Jamie used to be a Boy Scout troop leader in this story is about an infamous my pump in Georgia, which in used to be in the baby tarpon baby 1996, I lived in various places up and down the East Coast, but one of my favorite places I live with a place called Folkestone, Georgia while he was there, I decide I want to get involved in scouting again. I have been an Eagle Scout and I want to stay involved in scouting. So now that I was on shorted a great opportunity. I have a lot of boys in my troop I had Hispanic boys like boys white boys but they were all just boys boys boys boys are self-help couple of habitats. Most of the couple had a few dollars to their name. The but anyway I took these boys to summer camp at Camp told the boys I took out the troop they really wanted to get involved in one scouting I want to learn what the sheet rifles and they wanted to pull archery and they wanted to do all these different things.

So we are having a wonderful time. One of the greatest parts of scouting, while the greatest parts of going up was always the South. The lease at the time that I was a kid the time the scout leader was the snipe hunt this night was awesome. Got excited they were going throughout. Capture the elusive snipe. But the thing is, in order To Skype you have to go out tonight. The dark woods alone and you have to sit out there all by yourself alone, hoping to catch a snipe now, how you say how would I get a boy to sit out there in the woods alone catch a snipe. Boys are not only adventures their greedy so what we would do is tell the boys that the snipes with a small ground running birds. We would even show the picture Boy Scout handbook of the American snipe bird exists in the desert that we would say that this word also exists in the marshes of the swamps of Georgia and that this bird came in multiple colors depending upon what was eating you know how flamingo has a pink color because of the shrimp of elites. Same thing with the snipes their feathers with certain colors depending upon what they're reading at the time. Some like to eat certain things. Unlike the other things because of feathers to change that you never knew what you can run into so that these boys would sweep brought in the members of the order of the arrow. He was a camp counselor's name was in the that wasn't his real name. I honestly don't know his real name, but he went by the name Andy is Indiana Jones was the fake movie at that time he had Indiana Jones hat and all the boys in the Calling that in the was in Mallow snipe hunting escapade and he was telling us how the order of the arrow like to make Indian headdresses and they needed different color feathers in order to make the headdresses and so what they would do is they would pay for feathers that could be purchased from the boys who were doing snipe hunt if they caught a red snipe while the right feathers. They were worth about five dollars for every 50 feathers but they caught yellow snipe with about $10 Sherry 50 feathers.

But the real elusive prize with purple snipe and they were paying $100. 50 feathers because they were so rare.

Everybody wanted the purpose of the purple ones who want to catch with the most elusive in the most expensive. They were also the most dangerous because they could actually bite you and that had been known to be rabies that we figure that if a kid got that out in the woods by a snake that were boys and 68. At least they would react properly. So he taught them what to do about the case you were bitten by the rabid purple snipe. I know, I think we were crazy but we just have so much from these kids and they bought it hook line and sinker. Leverage particular boys with the hunting this time I was a boy named John Roy who was my senior patrol leader and he had already been through snipe hunt before with his dad but that of the three younger boys, Robert Drake, and Curtis and they had never been snipe hunting before they were all excited about going snipe running and so we told him that we were going to go out with the snipes of these different colors can Robert bless his heart. He just told me about the fact that his father had snipes all the time and had caught a whole bunch of and that they even had a picture album at home. Of all the pictures of the snipe to his dad because he figured his dad to catch all that he could catch to that.

I don't know what countable is that it pulled on and you're listening to Jamie Scott and he's telling his story of the toll that she snipe on. The restless ones is now available on the iHeartRadio app wherever you listen to podcasts presented by T-Mobile for business 5G that's ready right now and we continue with our American stories and Jamie Scott story of a memorable snipe hunt that occurred when he was a Boy Scout troop leader poetry camp in Georgia is Jamie with the rest of the story that the object is you tell the boy the stomach at the snipe.

So what you do is give him a bag. We usually hear my white plastic bag and a lot of people that want to give him what I want to give a flashlight and what they would do is I would tell him to open the bag up to have stick also take a stick from the bag like a traffic light behind the back click about the end of the trail is a very quiet dark spot and then they were supposed to make call of the snipe. We call this type goes like this snipe snipes not stop we the other hand go back up the trail quite a ways we will get will quietly wait. The object was snipes here, the voice of the boy and would come towards the noise of the quality of we would then come running down the trail as fast as we could and hopefully there will be a snipe in the trail who would be scared and he would run snipes would run right at all like that was what snipes did not know why but they did that, you ask a scientist snipes on lights so the boy with the object was a snipe run right at it and then he would run into the bag shut the bag to take the stick snipe over the head of the snipe that he in reality we would get up to be of the trail because I would think that he was hearing. Snipe answering back so that we will make a run down the trail. Usually somebody would get some sort of rock or something like that and we would over the head of a shrill facet with Christ to the underbrush right next to the boy and we said we saw wanted trail to see and he would say it takes a we would say hi and see what color was what what was at Lisa's screen screenshot all one Potomac ramp right between his legs.

But anyway we go back up the trail maybe run one more time then we tell the waitress a little bit longer more time to get set then we would just walk away. Go sit back at the campsite.

Wait for the sport figured out how hi you got so Leah we went down to I was doing the one with great and another boy was the one with Robert Curtis and we decided to pull a trick and say when we were running down I was post house was robbed into the woods and I was supposed to say I was hurt. I was hurt and I was very young. I think that my rather snipe Robert and asked Greg I'm saving so I did.

This boy got up and left the boys McCarty come out… It is to Scott said there was not going to memory.

I heard it said Scott is solar out with a lady who gave out value on the back for good job but you did great. So we came up and we saw the group that was running with Robert now. We decided let's do it again. Robert said hey was a great idea. You guys to know that I wanted to hear from Robert if he ran down inside they were yelling and screaming trying to run the snipe and then he says off the sizes so hurt Robert. Robert. Again, bless his heart, he wanted to help so bad he went running and crashing through the underbrush going had got out the other side of the Thicket that we were in and he ran around to another angle to hear Robert change direction become toward his and he ran around to the other side of herself that we were right up against another troops campsite scoutmasters is like a bit of jaws I can open and we were rolling. Listen to this whole thing so we decided just to call down the road and go see what Curtis and leave Robert thrashing around looking for trying to save. I know we found terrible costs was fun.

So we go down were looking for Curtis and were about to do the same thing Curtis had just come out of the woods and he was done, how is it go so well, you know, we didn't get anything. We didn't see anything that was kind of a weak snipe but it wasn't over yet because as we stand there talking to the group of Curtis, we hear the still searching, dirt road and he's heading down the road towards us. Robert said he laid the ground in the moonlight and we cut Horseneck into the woods a little bit and Robert comes down the road he sees in the just equate to about we'll call it what just shot back and he fell back to somebody's crying and everything else like yes of course I really felt that for trying my best to say all this is still on. This is still going to is spillage of course in the us all into the sea swooning all will so we picked him up with you care you know a couple of us carried her campsite related on the table trying to figure out what to do with rapid snipe.

We got we got to get to talk to your doctor will goes Curtis.

Curtis was the smallest of the scouts at the time he was young he was quick to criticize Dr. he was gone, running as fast as he could down the dirt road towards the camp office. I thought oh my goodness, you can call 911 so I am running on liking myself down the road chasing this little fella runs into the camp office and he comes those and I yelled a few things comes flying out and he has said goodbye could help and I rented office nurse Robert Robin Wright who is the camp director, and he slept in the office together about Gartner and he stated in his underwear about half-asleep picking up the phone, looking at me like what's going on your scout. What happened Robin don't worry about sleep and about the morning is no problem.

Sleep radical so I headed back down to the campsite and Curtis's banner Sanyo medicals on the way and he is still sobbing and is played out.

Man I hate he's talking deliriously. He's asking for his mother.

He said he sees his dead grandfather is doing all sorts of stuff Robert is just dancing around Greg Greg knows is going on. By now, but Greg is not saying you finally we said okay sister Mrs. take a break as it guys we pulled the joke on. I said that you know we've told a joke on the Curtis political. You said there's no such thing as this is real, there's no purple snipe that he wasn't bitten. He wasn't hurt.

So it's okay don't worry about it is not a problem, and thereby, ha ha last little bit. If he sits up in the big man Robert looks us straight his arrow. He says I know you guys were due from the whole time because this is not how you really hunt, snipe. I know because my dad is snipe and he's told me and we got pictures and out on our table priceless priceless and you been listening to Jamie Scott tell the story of the college she snipe hunt can totally see Georgia a great listener story here on our American stores bottomless margaritas going and how everything went.
