This is our American stories we tell stories about all kinds of things on the show. One of our favorites has been our series of talks with Brett Favre about life outside of the goalposts. That's what we do here in the show as often as possible. Tell the rest of the story and in the main characters voice without interference from us. This is the fifth part of a five-part series on Brett Favre and with Brett on this one focuses on living and playing in the small, blue-collar city of Green Bay, Wisconsin and the trials he faced trials of forced into the doors of a drug rehab center three times in the thing that happened twice, which nobody knew. There's Brett Favre throughout last 16 years of great things happen wall for father my wife to breast cancer. All my brother-in-law stepfather law lost him all went to drone rehab for pain pills and then maybe I have for that one Super Bowl so I think people who, like yeah you know one of us. Sometimes you you know I got to oftentimes been shot should know better. I look at someone's prominent Weatherby professional sports or politician and actor… Really like Tom Hanks. There's not many people I would want to meet. In fact, he's probably the only one that if Ida Chase meets my love me. Tommy's committee seems like distant regular guy but also like like everyone pajamas said after Kobe God's sight down is not supposed to, and I think people look at athletes and celebrities politician sometimes is amusing to whatever in the course. I sent Jason and so I lived it affect me in Green Bay certainly help because it was a perfect fit for me. The I don't think I realized until several years and that this was tailor-made for me, not LA, not New York, not Chicago, not all the cities are bigger because people could relate to me and I can relate to the very similar to where I grew up in a not a whole lot different house for other than the climb is just hard work. Blue-collar people and so I think they can identify with with me and I just happen to be there quarterback. So it was a perfect perfect fit. Thinking alike that Aaron Aaron Rodgers of these adhesive a friend then laughing because he's there quarterback. There they don't really connect with me and that they can identify like relate to me and so yeah like a timely manner.

Check and I saw a store out.

I was actually my first year in Green Bay. He went to training camp got cut so I got a get a chance knowing that I just remember thinking what happened. This guy I remembered to do a press conference in 1996, right before well when I got out it was the day before training camp.

When I went in treatment. I spent 75 days to because I was little bit rebellious body one. They told me everything I need to do. I had signed him to go to lunch with the group from when I finally realized following it out here. I better do exactly what they say. That is not set 75 days into many like I remember the press conference in and help difficult it was to announce that I had not only go to treatment, but for pain pill addiction because I had everything going for that was that.

That season ended up being my third MVP season in row so I got had two previous but it was amidst the just the heart of my addiction to me that it was at its worst. Surprisingly, that I was able to function like that.

Now that play a high level and sleep. Maybe an hour a night taking 15 like MES at one time but it was a great it was great to have it happen in Green Bay where people had compassion all the things that's happened to me was thankful happen. Green Bay so that you know immediately and from there they love love the Packers but they love their people to people. I saved because I actually went three times the first time I went someplace in Whiteville, Louisiana and little electric believe what I pulled up to this place said this is a rehab of house like some some Sanford son type place is likable shack but it was it was good. I say they're 28 days I would stop.

One thing and continue another someone to drink about the pain pills was a 75 day in Topeka, Kansas and Menninger clinic of Louisville, Louisiana, was prior to all that and that was for pain pills but I wasn't ready to stop that the league did make me go.

I went voluntarily leaving a lot more arms twisted hot had two seizures in Green Bay one in the hospital right after ankle surgery after the after the previous season so 95 season and then during the season. After the 94 season the 95 season was the season for one Super Bowl during that season I had a seizure the night before game which people obviously didn't know and that really cannot started the ball rolling like why are you having seizures. While is asleep, right was basically short-circuiting and you just turn a remarkable story of three time MVP Hall of Fame quarterback running on one hours sleep serious pill habit and suffered two seizures to and no one knew about your hearing about that for the first time here because we like breaking news that's not why you tune in here to hear the real story and the real humility and is not kidding when he says he's glad he was in Green Bay. Is this country boy tucked away in Los Angeles or New York to Chicago and the ending would have been much worse.

Even listening to Brett Favre.

This is the part five a five-part series here on our American stories in his own words.

By the way, Tony Mander, Rich, what a story we've done that 12 in Tony's own words from the heights of NFL success to drug addiction and worse and then the rise up and we love the redemption story here were always rooting for people when they're down. Whether they're in a prison or anywhere else when they're at their low.

That's all we left to come in and love on him and we treat them as if the members are on family just like you would and if you have stories like this.

They don't have to be some big fancy football quarterback story is in the end. That's why people related to Brett. He was like the rest of us that he is these people are no different and we all know that it's we treat them different and put them on these statues and then when they fall. We rip him apart and it's just so wrong Brett Favre story here on our American stories with bottomless margaritas going whenever I want started.
