This is our American stories we tell stories about everything here in the show are Nick story comes to us from all in Minneapolis, Minnesota all moved our listeners with this story, Wilbur and the empty nest.

We asked him if he had more here is the story title of baby boomers battle with insanity handful of years ago I had come to grips and admit I was fighting a losing battle, trying shamelessly to hold onto my new so I made an executive decision is the deal I was six months from hitting the dreaded age of 50 is not only over the hill was also on the shape I got lazy and become your sports I love rather than a participant was a debtor frozen Minnesota winter. I was feeling fat, I decided to challenge myself to get the reasonable shape and be easy to start exercising more. Back to my college weight before the summer started to feel as young as ever. At 6 foot 630 pounds I gained over the years came on easily and slowly year after year as I settled into my career as a computer programmer but at age 49 I had to face the facts was time to stop blaming my clothes dryer for my tightly fitting shirts time to fess up my skills not broken. How many times I stepped on it each morning hoping for a better result. That shameful number displayed was indeed correct. It was time to admit it. My waistline was growing steadily as the stock market, which by the way, I wasn't taking advantage of some stubborn German Catholic and much too conservative on the correctness belt unbuckling dilemma and take some drastic measures had to pry myself off my lazy boy chair which I more accurately, my stature. At first I thought the cheap route, stationary bike, my basement should give a try. When I went down there remembered was using it quite well as a closing or maybe you like finding a new home for my dirty laundry than I thought.

The digital ideal session DVD video route, but insanity and P90 X stretch is no chance I could force myself to mimic some dude on the DVD. I try jogging in the past I would spend his entire 30 minutes. This myself as best I could in spring majority into a leisurely walk, dreading every minute slightly different route I decided to do something I never thought I would do right over my wallet for my credit card front desk and $50 a month. I joined a gym.

Yes, I will say to admit it became one of those urban adults on a mission guys and girls you hear about prancing around the gym printer look like fashion models and college kids only. I was one of the few who didn't run around with it a fresh makeup on skintight spandex workout clothes under armor sleeveless shirts peeking in Mears at family time bulging muscles, I was offered every day and my biggest sweats ring as hard as I could, elliptical machine, such as maximum resistance, huffing and puffing, leaving Gahanna police were on the floor below my machine.

All the while I was getting strange looks from those next to me as if they were out for Sunday straw. I try to figure out how they do it and make it look so easy.

I was in much worse shape than I thought. His other gym members in incredible shape, but I glance at the machine on. Then I found the secret they were not setting any resistance. It was all a fraud just for show. They were pretenders then and there stubborn as I am, I decided to do it the honest way.

I don't have much of the pride and power's left knee that carried me through my blinking County high school days. I was no longer a slow and lumbering center. Reisman might ego a hockey team. I was an old man now, but a decisive one, just the way my old coach Jerry Peterson taught me to be. I was going to lose the weight is Minnesota native born to a Catholic family of 10 settled into a middle-class neighborhood in Bloomington was a blue-collar guy who hated to lose and I was not gonna fail and believe it or not.

Before I knew it five months from the start of this experiment the way to split my drivers license was once again accurate 30 pounds in 50 years. I celebrated those two milestones together. I had mid century with a smile on my face. Some smaller shirts and pants that fit just right here 50 halfway to 100 great feeling. However, the glory was short-lived.

Sure, I felt great and I look better but I had to shake my head. After all that blood sweat and tears. I had asked what precedent she is my victory that he met my goal. I wondered if I lost my sanity, encompassing it, and I gone bonkers. Imagine yourself getting on elliptical machine every day.

Sometimes even twice a day. At the end of the workout looked at what you done machine so that when 4.1 miles every time I got off of that machine stuck on the ground. I can verify it plainly had not moved an inch and consider the other machine and mastered stairmaster. I love that word picture mastered of stairs intimidating stairmaster machine that was done for the day set I have time hundred and 24 hours. Wheezing, running out of breath in the real world have demanded that tower. I could've been looking forward to a much easier locked on the same floors and it hit me.

Simple pleasure was denied and not believing one story I was standing the same spot ground levels.

When I started right next to innumerable machine whom I kidding anyway I can even claim to be master my own waistline alone some nonexistent stairs. Even though we are established jogging is not my thing once in a while.

I did get a shot Meditech of the small indoor running track on this infamous gem of my 11 lamps were equal to a mile. My goal is usually 3 miles that was never quite sure whether I made it or not, you know, my focus to keep from stopping lose track of the last. I just finished at 2124 myself struggling to come to 30 30 get this. There is a sign attracting markets could use the inside lane Jarvis had used outside. Well, there were no markers on the track is when hens are coming inside lane that somehow that made me feel as though I was cheating. These manufacturing encounters in the gym. Greenstein and I will and it took their toll on the sweater do to get my sanity back.

I did the same thing. Anyways, a 50-year-old would do. I gladly quit that gym membership and went right back to my old habits I reacquainted myself with my stature and I eagerly using my nightly snack cabinet and with the $50 per month membership savings, I was able to spend that cash much more wisely.

I no longer had to force myself to take a long way on the Walgreens store and going to the pharmacy to pick up Mike had blood pressure medicine going back to taking a shortcut through the candy aisle is only a dollar 39 for a box of milk that's and better yet 5 x 3 at once. It's an even better deal at three for three dollars. That ain't no fuzzy math. Over the next several months. Those 30 pounds are sure about is your background in order take off much more enjoyable to reflecting that rebound. I think that perhaps this correlation between sanity and the sizing or waste. Obviously same people have bigger bellies. However, I guess it is possible this is me justifying the size my girth. But whatever you do as my daughter forgot my wits back if you do, she most likely will say I never had any real sanity in the first place, which I would reply that's insane is 50. I was somewhat for follow-up singing old man within its 51 and once again become the guy you hit the play pickup basketball with no when talking about the guy and he would shake your head at getting the pickup game between the sheets and the scans 51-year-old with a beer belly and a hairy back, his tongue dragging on the floor, sweat pouring from his armpits truly unable to dribble her dark, but somehow make a three-point shot taking a shot because he didn't have the energy to run the whole court. That's me. 20 except the part about making a three-point shot at in Macon.

I can only take down this fitness roller coaster. Amazon has led me to this conclusion there is a need for balance in there somewhere. Lesion exercise can go hand-in-hand and I was reminded that exercising is a lot easier and much more fun. There's competition involved but I miss the days of doing real exercise in contrived spandex and no makeup sanity on DVD in Nonie and shoes in the best of all no monthly gym membership coming out of my credit card emphasize the freedom I will days and I enjoyed it.

I miss running up and down the masses interest gymnasium with my high school buddies Lyle Bucher, Levi, and the monster playing hoops at full speed. Late at night spinning out the old-fashioned way, I miss playing pickup, touch football game on Sunday afternoons. Donna running part a sense of being on the receiving end of my wobbly passes really paid on real grass by the rains not buying irrigation system. These are the kinds of age I should be exercising.

I suspect that my friends and siblings would tell me that those long lost efforts in street ball and pick up games did little to improve my sanity still I felt like a normal guy that can and that was good enough for me. I do applaud the efforts of those men and women in the unmarried daughters working on spandex doing request video: sanity P90 X. As for me I got a go this late at night. My stomach is growling and I think there are some peanuts left in the pantry all staterooms. The secret of this experiment coming on the copiers. My turn 60 between now and then I think I make things a bit easier to say goodbye to my lazy boy chair up outside with the grandkids and then on both my daughter and a nice long walk and you've been listening to Paul tell his story of his battle insanity and fitness than in thanks to Greg tingling for finding the story sharing it and producing it. Paul's battle with insanity and fitness a story. It's my story to hear on our American stories pay.
