You pick up your Bible.

Is there more here than meets the is there something here for me. I mean it's just words printed on paper may look like just print on the page but it's more than Inc. join us for the next half hour, as we explore God's word together as we learn how to explore it on our as we ask God to meet us there in its pages welcome to more than ever. Set aside. While it have to be really special to do something significant every day for that week to commemorate it would be special. What looks like today is looking Exodus find a reason to celebrate today, more than Inc. good morning dear entered table. We hope you are to Exodus and we started with leaving Egypt and were still at Mount Sinai, but we are aware still receiving instructions about how to build the tabernacle, the actual execution of the instructions are still to come.

Yeah, exactly. So you know how to build the tabernacle basically how to build a portable tent for God as they wandered in the desert in their tents but not just the tent itself.

But what goes on in the tent we've looked at not only the furniture and stuff inside.

But now are pretty much focusing on the guys were going to be doing stuff in the tabernacle and principally the high priests. Priests yeah so last time we looked at the consecration of Aaron, the first high priest and what they did and lot to lot interesting imagery right there and again. Remember, this is an arbitrary all this imagery is meant to teach you something so should be asking yourself all the way through this. Why did God specify this. He's trying to teach me something in the picture of what is showing right here. It is very specific to last time we looked at consecrating the priest and today we look at consecrating briefs for contingency was the consecration enters action.

Look forward to Aaron's replacements is real. So and we gain a new understanding about the duration of the consecration to the future if you're following with us were reading out of the SP Bible in chapter 29 of Exodus and were picking up at verse 29 you I just let me just say when you first since were talking about Aaron, the high priest who ever he was not a young man he was Moses right brother and Moses was in his 80s at Sinai, so you know, there needs to already be a plan in place.

Aaron's Reisman so that figures in and to talk about the consecration of the first high priest Aaron which we just talked about. Well we got talk about the future when that's what already you are the ones that will follow.

Who will be of his line.

Aaron and his son okay with that, here you go ahead verse 20 okay and the holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him and they shall be anointed and ordained in them. The son who succeeds him as priest who comes into the tent of meeting, to minister in the holy place, shall wear them seven days you shall take the ram of ordination and pilot/in a holy place and weight you want to talk about that seven days first before we present interesting new fact because we didn't have a ride 70s with Aaron's consecration, but in the subsequent son to take his place is going to be a weeklong affair. Actually we do. If you are in Leviticus 8 talked about when the actual event takes place. Aaron and his sons do camp in the gate camp for a week, so I looked it actually all of Leviticus 8 part that particularly describes that is verses 3106 and is Moses who does the ordaining. If you remember a couple weeks was that question you don't know yet who actually performs the ceremony but in Leviticus 8 it's very clear that it's Moses as Moses received instruction from God to.

And Moses is that type the intermediary before the establishment of the presiding. So this is just a daylong consecration as a whole week that these nice friend. You know, in the courtyard and inside well okay so if there there eating a bowl so very well for week was push on okay verse 31, so you shall take the ram of ordination of sorry greeting ram and Boylan's flesh in a holy place and Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket in the entrance of the tent of meeting.

They shall keep those things by which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration by an outsider shall not eat of them because their holy and if any of the flesh for the ordination or the bread remain until the morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire, and shall not be because it's holy, holy again means set apart for a certain purpose right this case it is to feed.okay so as were reading this I want you all to listen for the repetitions that happen because holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy comes up again and again and again. Consecration comes up again and again and again.

And so when when something is repeated. That's a big waving flag.

We need to kind of slow down and pay attention to what we're being told there so we just learned that the garments are holy and that the flesh of the animal was sacrificed is holy and it needs to be eaten in a holy place, not just Eden but cooked prepared in a holy place and so we talk about holy interns being set apart for purpose the idea purpose is really paramount when you see holy.

It's not like I'm saying what I'm doing this for purpose. There's been to in my heart don't stray from us. I'm doing it for a reason, so there's great purpose behind this see holiness. Okay she was going well why so I don't know if it was worth mentioning here. But remember that episode with David where he's on the run and goes to the temple or sever tabernacle dedicated bread and even Jesus uses that argument.

So if you're curious what I'm talking about. Go searching around because it's a pretty fascinating thing you can circle back to that a couple weeks and we get to the actual bread of the presence and bring that up again but doesn't really figure. Here you are just looking is as you know, an outsider shall not eat of them right but but there's also there's sort of a hint in one of Peter's letters about the fact that we are all kind of adopted into this priest is not kind. We really are. We really are and so there's a there's a change in the qualification in terms of eating that bread when I'm given all that, I think it's in chapter 2 first Peter but anyway close this will see shall do the Aaron into his sons, according to all that I have commanded you remember where we are now in just been talking to do this to Aaron and his sons all according all that I commanded you through seven days and every day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement. Also you shall purify the altar when you make atonement for it, and shall anointed to consecrated seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrated altar shall be most holy. What ever touches the altar shall become holy.

Okay, repetition, repetition, holy, holy, holy, atonement, atonement, atonement, up to seven days seven days seven days which emphasize the fact you were your talk about a bull every day. The big animal is a big animal and it's interesting that a single bull offering is not be sufficient in order to atone for what the priest needs to do and that sort of hints back to what the writer of Hebrews as well you know if the offering of animal would do what you have to do it over and over and over again so really this atonement is something that it's it's like a temporary covering atonement, but a bullet day minutes. Just a lot of sacrifice well this is specifically a sin offering for atonement right right were going to get to other sacrifices that we mentioned this before, that there is this constant shedding of blood. Constant death of animals constant offerings on this altar in front of that of the holy place yeah yeah bull is a sin offering who sin are we talking about well is possible that were talking about Aaron sin, yes, I would go that direction, just and Savior directly, but were talked about consecrating the priests right so in order for the priest to be holy, set apart, he's not qualified himself because he's sinful, so something has to be done first to do with the sin of the high priest before the high priest can intercede for the people. That's very good and so this is a big animal with a lot of blood right so did you say in verse 37 where it says the altar shall be most holy and what ever touches the altar shall become holy. Later on we will and reading the accounts of what happens with with things that are holy usually works the other way something gets touched by something unclean and is no longer holy orders no longer clean but here it says nine touches the altar shall become holy holiness flows out from the altar and what happened here right sacrifice is God's purpose in all of this in terms of dealing with sin and what's on the altar alters a place that happens and it flows when I was comes back to us. Again, the purpose of a life being should so that life might be come to someone else is from that altar. So actually it isn't just something coming to an end. Death, but it's actually life coming out of it. So that's why were looking and he also had to consecrate the altar and I would presume to use the blood in the x-ray touch it. When I looked at right for that couple chapters so it makes the entire entirety of not only the high priest is been consecrated, but the altar were it sucked present. Everything is is cleansed by this blunt writer of Hebrews said say nothing is cleansed without the shedding of blood right there must be a life given exactly so yeah, I think we mentioned before about Hebrews parallels are so tight to the writer of Hebrews interprets forcible reading right here newcomer perspective you okay to move on yeah yeah so that was that. That was actually what pertains to the seven days okay right secretion thing which will go on. Every time they get a new high priest week of this while this for 30 already for size. I like to read. So now verse 38 now this is what you shall offer on the altar to lambs a year old, day by day regularly exit to lambs every day to lambs every day.

One lamb, you shall offer in the morning and the lamb shall offer twilight and with the first lamb attempt to measure fine flour mingled with 1/4 of a hin of beaten oil, and 1/4 of a hin of wine for drink offering, and the other lamb, you shall offer twilight and shall offer with it a grain offering and string off drink offering, as in the morning for a pleasant aroma of food offering to the Lord, that it shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generation at the entrance of the tent of meeting before the Lord were I will meet with you to speak with you there… Stuff. So now we got onto what it's like to continue consecration talking to my elections going to be in the tabernacle, and eventually in the temple itself, not the seven days of consecration, but now as we go on to lambs, one in the morning and one every day perpetually beginning every day and at the end of every day, and it's not just lambs.

It's a full meal. It's a full meal yeah exactly so. So this is something that goes on. If you wonder about what happened in the temple and Israel, the tabernacle, you can at least say will every day.

The words there was a laminate in the morning and one in twilight that was offered yeah and this is like a continual consecration and easily official prescribed offerings that the priests offer morning and night yeah but in between time people were continually bringing their own bank offerings and peace and that's what makes us different.

This isn't someone saying I'm bring an offering for my sin. This writer priest doing this nation yeah and and maybe in a sense, to consecrate the actual place you know the altar itself hard to say but this is what goes on all well they had already consecrated the altar different ceremony. This is the continual morning and evening reminder of shed blood in order to secure for you access to the meeting place with God is and I will meet with you there speak with you there. It shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations pleasing aroma of plane is also good to God right which barbecue dust opens the door to get into next week.

We talk about the incest. Yes I will.

Yes, there were fragrances that took place in this holy place that you didn't smell anywhere else quite this way you so his word is repeating this pictures reread Exodus you gotta not only turn on your imagination of your mind, you get eternal imagination of your know your senses as I was actually part of the entire thing.

There was a lot of beauty in the linens you saw a lot of activity going on there was but there's the smell. So just a very sensual appeal to the entire tabernacle to the sounds, the sites, the smells, the crackling of a fire that there just was auditory stuff going on. There's the whole experience was was for the sentences it was meant to be absorbed by people. Yeah right. So at this point. At this point were transitioning to an interesting end of this chapter, God is a lot of I will so do we know we talked about holy is set apart for purpose. He's not talk about that purpose right now.

Why all the stuff of just been talking about because remember you were doing this at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord says in 42 where I will meet with you to speak to you there. So recall we going to put out laid out the organization of the temple tabernacle tabernacle courts know you'd come into the court and you would see the altar that you have to pass by that select the first the first barrier is sent dealing with you.

That's what you see and then as you go into the tabernacle and you going to more special places in the near to the corridor work. I just so don't don't be Lawson echoes the purpose of these sacrifices is to allow you to proceed further in the presence of God. And sure enough, that's what he says regular rate of 43 and he'll sit straight up to actually back up because a part of the sentence of 42 shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before the Lord, where I will to speak with you there. There I will meet with the people of Israel, and it shall be sanctified by my glory. I will consecrate the tent of meeting the altar. Aaron also and his sons. I will consecrate to serve me as priests. I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God and they shall know that I am the Lord their God who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them. I am God wound is an interesting structure. Yeah, we should purpose behind what's going on. I counted, I circled although I will 1234566.

I will meet twice. I will consecrate twice and I will be once so again again again God is doing God is doing God is doing so again we we underscored to start with.

The tabernacle was that God could live in their mitts and live in their midst and visibly live in their midst. In this tabernacle his tent in the midst of the tents of the nation of Israel because he says I want to be with you in your midst, and so here we are. Here's the tabernacle and it allows him not only to be with them but for them to meet with him in this sentence or two.

God is the one who is doing all the acting I will I will only thing that they do is no that on the Lord and it's interesting to that the high priests we talked about this before the high priest, in a sense, don't belong to Israel to belong to God that he said he said the beginning of this chapter there. That very thing that they may serve me as priests and so that's God's intention. The priests serve God in order that God can meet with the people. That's the whole point and and we extended a little bit more going past the altar of the sacrifices our God doesn't do you want to meet with us but what gets in our way is the sin I love this here that even now wearing this portion of the book where God is saying to Moses. Now you do all of this and you will consecrate you will consecrate but hearing this, some nationstate me saying you know it's really me.

He's the I am concentrating you are performing the ceremony. But I am the so it's so God is not that interested in having a good worker. This ceremony is interested in establishing a much deeper relationship with him and that that's what this is all about this. The tabernacle was all about.

That's why the high priest exists sacrifices exist. Everything exists here. The purpose for being set apart. The purpose is to meet with God be with Nigella make it happen. Not just have a meeting right but I will dwell among the people of Israel, which is what he had always wanted to do. I will meet with you.

There'll meet with the people of Israel, and I will dwell with the people of Israel, and I will be there God while that's the purpose that's the set apart and he actually uses the proper name that he gave to Moses back in chapter 3 in verse 46 says they'll know that I am the Lord their God. Now maybe some of you listeners don't realize this, but if you're reading in your Old Testament and you find Lord all in capital letters. LAR G, then, that is, that signifies that the word, there's the Hebrew word that we sometimes we say Yahweh. Sometimes we say I am that that is that the literal name when Moses said to God, who shall I say sent me and he says to him, I am that I am this name so they'll know because I make them holy that I am dwelling among the God who is him.

He's existence is what is right and in case you confuse Jehovah is just the Latin version of well you have a transliteration is a conglomeration of the consonants in. But when you see Joe thing right.

That's were taught right yeah and it's interesting to put some of his credentials there in 46 they'll know that I am the Lord their God on the Yahweh on the one. Moses who brought them out of the land of Egypt of that action will come up over and over and over, the one that brought you out of Katz's central claim to fame.

I brought you back to me that God who did all of that stuff. I'm the one who's dwelling. However, it's interesting he says here and say another places I brought you out of Egypt, not to just for you right brought you out of Egypt, that I might dwell among them. So it's from one to you this, this evokes a whole bunch of marriage imagery as well because because the bride when she goes lives at the groom. She leaves the one place I and so what he would say is I brought you out of your family your own family so that I might dwell with you, and I would change the entire relationship you can be identified with me, identify right and I know what it still these days, it's less and less common, but when we get married. The woman's name is changed right to that of her husband. So let me just remind you that back in Exodus 19 when the Lord had first mentioned this idea to Moses he said now then to the people.

If you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession among all the people, for all the earth is mine and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words you shall speak so early on and said to them now bringing you out so you can be identified is mine to make my name known nation is that marriage thing as well write a single belong to me, belong to each other in that particular sense of know that I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them. I am Yahweh. While that's the purpose of all this holiness's equity to say after that final statement I am a bit before we wrap up just a couple minutes left, back to speculation. Ellie here in verse 43 this is it and it should be sanctified by Michael to a sanctified by my glory, sanctified by my glory. I will meet with the people of Israel there and be sanctified by my glory is is I mean we could talk a long time but exactly what that means but it's interesting that the glory is just like the outward manifestation of who God is, in essence, so what he's saying is that this place is consecrated it, set apart because of my presence and not because of anything else. My glory unlike him and here's little spoiler or any get to this we get to the end of Exodus. When they actually had built it and went through all the consecration services and God's glory came down and still debt.

They couldn't even stand because of the weight of the presence of God in terms of the smoke of the fire that they had seen at a distance, but now it was present in the Internet touched ground in the camp. This holy place and that priests fell on their faces. You learned so they are that's in the last chapter of Exodus.

Well, it made me also. Think of a time when sacrifices were consumed by gunfire and grant ran.

I looked one of them up in Leviticus 9 Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out they blessed the people and the glory all right horse appeared to all the people and fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar. And when all the people thought they shouted and fell on their faces right while so and it happened again with Elijah. When Elijah has his face-off with the prophets. The fire comes down so so what goes on here can glorify God in his presence is what consecrated's this place that will consecrate so that God can be with his people, and there will be this unmistakable revelation of who God is associated with this place in the midst yeah and there are yes because associated with this tense going to be a Shekinah glory cloud during the daytime. The fire at night. The gigantic nightlight. I call it you know there's a lot that yeah but here is going to come in and be over this place. This place so what water way I would've been really great to be attentive with them at the time and you know it would've really been amazing. And yet Jesus said something greater than As a Year Later Than the Tabernacle Came to Show Us the Glory of God Flesh so Let's Not Get All Excited about the Visible Smoke and Fire Because God Took on Flesh to Dwell and for the Same Purpose. He Just Talked about Here so He Can Be with Them and Meet with Them.
