Welcome to the Kerwin Baptist Church broadcast our desire is for the word of God spread throughout all me know Christ. Join us now for a portion of one of our services here at Kerwin Baptist Church located in Kernersville, North Carolina Mark chapter 11 and we will draw to a close. Our series on facing your Giants. They certainly have not been the only Giants we face, but these have been some of the main ones, and I hope that even if certain giants weren't mentioned. I believe that the principles taught each week of what it takes to get victory over these, you and I have to remember that the victory is through Christ, not in ourselves and I hope that that obviously has been ascertained.

Matt Mark chapter 11 if you will. And tonight we like to bring the series to a close with the giant of doubt, the giant of doubt Mark chapter 11 verse 15 if you will. Mark chapter 11 and verse 15 and they come to Jerusalem and Jesus went into the temple and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple and overthrow the tables of the money changers and the seats of them that sold does what happened Jesus and the disciples and got a letter from Bethany and as they came back into Jerusalem.

Jesus walks into the temple and the temple. By the way was his house.

This passage tells us a little bit later and he finds that there were numerous things going on inside the temple and the one thing that wasn't going on in the temple was the one thing that was supposed to go on the temple and Jesus obviously became very angry and this particular story is got a lot of attention because we see here Jesus. You would think almost being a little different than he had been anywhere else in the Bible that all of a sudden we see that Jesus becoming angry and we find him starting to throw out the individuals that were taking advantage of people making money off of people trying to profit off of people through the temple would be whatever 16 and would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. He turned over the tables be unlocked over everything. He would let anybody carry any of their goods that they were selling into the temple in verse 17 and he taught, saying unto them, is it not written, my house shall be called of all nations.

The house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves and the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy him, for they feared him because all the people was astonished at his doctrine and when even was come, he went out of the city and in the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots and Peter calling to remember and say that him master behold the fig tree which thou curses is withered away. Jesus answering said unto them, have faith in God. For verily, I say to you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his car, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore send you, what things where you desire when you pray, believe that he receive them, and he shall have a map verse right there by the way is been my dad's life. Verse since he got saved. Verse 25. When you stand praying, forgive, if you have ought against any that your father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. Father, we thank you for your word. Sometimes it's comforting sometimes it's convicting but it's always challenging, and it's always true.

And it's always right and it's always pure and it's always honest Lord. The Bible shows no respect to persons, Lord, we thank you for tonight.

Thank you for the good music we've had. Thank you for all of our folks that are here this evening. Lord, as we look to the days ahead help our people to see what doubt could do to what you have planned the Lord, may we as your word teaches in this passage that we read, may we have faith in God in your name we pray.

Amen in order to cut grass.

The whole passage we gotta break it down. I want you to notice first. This evening the place of prayer. Liber 17.

If you will. The Bible says that Jesus taught, saying unto them, is it not written, my house shall be called of all nations.

The house of prayer. There's some things I noticed about that little phrase that he gives and there's three things I see about his number one, I noticed that it is his house. He said my house shall be known of all nations, as the house of prayer can I say this is not our house it's his house that was very, very weak. This is not our house. This is God's house. This is a your house. This is in my house again I say that it doesn't necessarily it doesn't matter what your preferences or my preference. What matters is what God's word says it is a matter of every person in Greensboro wants us to do things a certain way this church. If the whole city Kernersville or Watertown or Winsted or Greensboro if they want us to do things one way and God wants us to do things. Another way that we better do what God said this is not our house it's his house.

We have we have lots over the years that man has tried to turn God's house into what men want him assets not their house where not to change the church to make it with people.

One, we are to change and I have God change people to make a minimal God wants. This is his house. He said my house. I notice I cannot always at his house, but it's his reputation.

He said this, my house shall be called of all nations.

That means this God says that my house is going to have a reputation and because it's his house. It's his reputation, and unfortunately can I say this to you and I have given many times God's house a bad name because what I see going on a church rarely goes on at church really doesn't need is a bunch of people fighting each other, complaining about each other finding division somehow and everything that goes on they see a lot of things going. We have this and we have that we have this big thing in mapping things and what church is where the house where we are to be worshiping God communing with God, praying to God, but that usually is the one thing that doesn't go on. It's his reputation cannot can't can I convince you this evening that you and I give people a reputation about Christ.

You and I are representation of him and as we go through our life and we go around this community.

Depending on how we act and treat people gives them an opinion about RC I see that it was his house. It was his reputation. I see thoroughly that it was his control is what he says these in my house shall be called of all nations. The house of prayer, but ye have made it.

That means is that God said I design my house to be a certain thing but you came in and changed. Now, dear friends, God designed church to be a certain thing in over the years, you and I have let traditions come in instead of truth and we divide over traditions instead of unifying over truth God's word cannot get any clearer what God had intended for his house. His house was to be a place of prayer. It doesn't mean we don't have singing at God's house. The Bible talks often about singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melodies to Christ for illicit singing will go on and by the way, preaching will go on at church when preaching doesn't want to church you really did have church and singing is not good to take the preeminence over preaching at this church. As long as I'm here because I'm responsible to God for that sinking is wonderful and thank God for good singing and thank God for singing it honors Christ but not God did not say that his house would be a house of music and it didn't say that his house would be just a house of preaching and I didn't say that his house was going to be a spiritual country club. We can all get together and always have things and entertain people. He said his house was to be a house of prayer, the place of prayer want to know to secondly the pollution of prayer verse 15 Bible says.

When Jesus went into the temple that he began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple. He overthrew the tables of the money changers. Those that sold jobs.

Let me enlighten you, I'm sure you understand this or what was going on is that at the temple. They had started to bring a lot of rituals in the play, and they would sell jobs and they would sell things so that they can go in and perform these rituals and take place in these rituals and have these little things and people were using those rituals and those traditions so that they could make money selling things in God's house and God's house. By the way, is supposed to be a house of prayer.

And guess what prayer is what free cost nothing to pray about how to tell us about is that we act like Minnesota because normally we will listen.

Prayer is free. Nobody should have to accompany anything to come to church is, what have people profiting off that I noticed three things out of this passage. Number one profit replaced prayer.

Prayer was replaced with profiting and dear friend, may I say this that church is not about us getting anything out of it church is about us getting Christ in us church is not about us getting leverage is not about us doing anything that self-serving.

By the way, that's what I've said years ago. I don't funnel like you can argument me all you want to, but there's a new sheriff in town run makes one because I said on the site. Again, I do not believe church to be a place for you to get contacts to sell your stuff to people. This is not your business venture. This is a house of prayer. This is not a house for you to find people to make money off of our profit off up and you can say all you want to want to try to help you help them on your own time when they come to church. They don't need to get get hit up with products and with things and asked for money. This is a place where all God's people said thank you profit had replaced prayer second. I noticed is that business had replaced brokenness you'll find anywhere. This passage that there were people the temple that were broken you'll find people crying out to God you'll find people on their knees praying you know what you found in the temple you found people profiting he found people making money you found people taking advantage of people using rituals and using the temple to profit themselves all of a sudden business had taken place of brokenness and I don't want to know tonight that we thought were but now he I know I'm a new pastor and only young guy and I know that you're probably watching to see if we try to be accountable. You have all the financial statements. Got any questions.

We been as open as open can be but I don't want to know that I am not running a business. This is a minister, and where to be accountable because it's money and it's your money that you given and it becomes God's money when it's given and so I don't want to be accountable for you. I want to be accountable for God is our God honor what were doing for the day, we start trying to treat this as a business and you were not at the altar, crying out to God, we got problems you'll agree with me on this profit had replaced prayer business had replaced brokenness I find clearly that ritual had replaced righteous another buying and selling using those doing all these traditions different.

Sometimes church can become just a little thing we go through all the motions we do the same things we know exactly what such such as going to be and I have no interest in church like that.

I know everybody likes consistency and nobody likes change but may I say I want to be at a place where God has freedom to do what God wants to do weekly if we have our words that now we have a little order of service paper right here real, what songs were singing, but look at me anytime Jesus wants to show up and change things. That's what happens right there. All right songs I choose or Phil chooses orc or whoever chooses.

It's got start to songs, resorts, and you church songs or where we go.

I don't care who chooses the songs. Whatever God wants. He's going to do in our little order service in our little plan and I believe got a plan. I believe got to be organized so that's why were doing it.

Listen to me dear friend Jesus ought to have total freedom in his house. This is in our house is not up to me it's not my plan.

I want Jesus to do what Jesus wants to do the pollution of prayer. What Jesus had created what Jesus had made available to people men had come in and ruined it. That's what religion always does religion always ruins it different were not trying to get anybody religious were trying to get people saved. I want you to notice the third thing this evening is a very interesting story want you to see the provider of prayer we see the place of prayer we see the pollution of prayer. But notice this third thing Jesus teaches a very interesting lesson that you got it open up your passage where we were and I got a reach a couple verses earlier so you understand the story because if you don't understand you'll think what the world went on here. Look at verse 12. If you will of Mark chapter 11. The Bible says and on the morrow when they were come from Bethany. He was hungry Jesus and seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves. He came is haply he might find anything thereon, and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves for the time of figs was not yet and Jesus answered and said unto it. No man eat fruit of the hereafter.

Forever.

And his disciples heard that here's an interesting, very random thing. They're on their way to Jerusalem when they get to Jerusalem. Jesus walks in the temple sees all the stuff going on, you know, takes care of it cleans house but something happened on the way Jesus was hungry. He walked over. There's a little figtree that would all like this much is pretend here's a fig tree in his over to see if maybe there's a figure self-monitoring get somebody there was anything there is just leaves the Bible says Jesus something very interesting here because it really did make a lot of sense he looks at the tree and he says no man will eat fruit from the forever and leaves okay now look at our store that we read earlier and look if you would at verse 19 Bible says and when even was come, he went out of the city and in the morning as they passed by, they saw the figtree, the one he had stopped at dried up from the roots and Peter calling to remember and said that him master behold the figtree which thou curses this world away and Jesus answering answering said unto them, have faith in what God no way to minute. What was he doing becomes up to this tree believes Ron there just one season yet for the fixed of the Pradaxa beyond their he walks up and he says no man will eat fruit off the forever walks away. They go in the Jerusalem. All this goes on.

Next morning they come out in that tree that was alive and well.

Getting ready to bear fruit. All of a sudden they see that exact same treated and the disciples remembered it and they said, Jesus hears this trailer and what did he say he said one sentence to that tree.

He said no man shall ever eat fruit off of the forever.

And guess what it was dad with the disciples walked by the tree and I saw this it in.

Oh Jesus what Walt Disney said have faith in God. What was Jesus saying folks he was saying this to me tell you something about prayer that would take some you don't have to.

I guess you would call it the sign here was this. You don't have to depend on that tree to bring fruit for you to have somebody God controls the tree that means is you, only to have faith in a tree. You don't need to have faith in people. You don't need to have fatal circumstances, you need to have faith in anything but Christ alone.

You know why because he can drive up a tree or he can bring fruit on a tree you can open up streams in the desert or he can close waters on people he can. He can provide where there seems to be no possible way of provision and the lesson here for the disciples. Was this just a have God can stop blessing because stop the fruit on the tree, look at me dear friend, you can stop your paycheck.

You can stop your health, you can stop all the things you've got planned. They can stop your whole future. Just like that. You see, what happens is a lot of times you and I depend on our works and we think on our smarts and with a well-known mob in serving God in church and I'm in with and we almost trust that that were going to have provision because we've done all this for God when we say something different. We don't get anything because we've done something special for God. We don't get anything because were so valuable.

Anything we have in our life. That's good is only because of the grace and goodness of God, and he can stop fruit if he wants to. Or he can bring fruit if he wants to know about you, I want to have faith in him, and nothing else. I want to have a lot of ministries here. I think that you been able to figure that out. I'm willing to try any endeavor, as long as it's doctrinally correct and doesn't cause us to compromise anything I want to reach people. Minerals will change bus travel will change the Wednesday night and it's helpless would not work. I want to run to try up or will to do waters when I first came I am willing to have ministries because I believe we ought to have ministries, look at me, dear friend. Those things are not what's going to grow this church, God's going to grow this church he could look down at our church and dried up like that. If we are not acting in a way that is pleasing to God look at me dear friend he could dry us up in one breath.

The provider of prayer.

The religious people had begun thinking that their rituals would get their prayer answers but that's not were prayer answers come from Jesus reminded that the fruit comes from him the fruit doesn't come from the tree precious people in front of me. Your bills are not paid because you get a paycheck. Your bills are paid, because God's been good God gives you that paycheck. God makes that happen. May you and I always understand where provision comes from becomes from him.

He controls even the little figtree's what you notice.

Fourthly tonight were almost done. Want to notice the power prayer in verse 23. Now all of a sudden he gives us a little bit of insight about praying for verily, I say to you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith no limit to what I'm not going to be able to do tonight I'm not gonna be able to fully explain that verse not know the way it's written, you could look at that and you would say so. It's just saying as long as I believe whatever I asked for God's going to give. I know that's not true, but I know the verse sounds like that.

So in order to understand that verse. You gotta put all of Scripture in the context the Bible teaches that God will bring anything to pass if it's according to his will. So if you're praying for something that is not according to God's will. You're knocking to get that because God wouldn't give you something that would be bad for you but if it's in line with God's will and you pray and seek God he will bring it to pass. But the Bible does teach that he will not do that he will not bring it to pass.

If you doubt his ability to differently, you and I will have no power in prayer.

If we have any doubt in our mind that God could do. I set up at my mom and dad's house. Number of times the obscene recent days. One day we're talking this been going on to have three years almost mom's cancer.

By the way, the fact we've had that long. There's a lot of people get cancer don't get that long little get six months so we been blessed, blessed mom and dad and I was try to gossip about prayer SMM we preach for years and I said we prayed we've sought we've sought God's face. We know of, probably a couple thousand people across America. Pray for them faithfully because of their ministry. They met a lot of different people that you don't get to see all the time. You don't really but if sought there. There is an emergency and they get word to pray for you because they love you and appreciate your ministry and I said I you know I've had more people pray for mom.

We have more people praying for Kayden that somehow God would heal that heart before he was even born, that he would need all the stuff and God chose not to do that and we have prayed for 2 1/2 years and man. We believe God can do and we said we believe God can do it and mom gets a report that's worse now. I told mom – that I just got to the point that I don't really think that I doubt that God can. I just seem to be doubting that God will is like. I know that he can but I just feel like I haven't seen him do anything.

I've asked that I just be honest with you all understand where Matt is trying to be transparent.

I love to be able to bless God without faith I did I got have faith in God told mom I said I set four months of the hospital. Not one time. As hard as the thing was with Kate I never doubted never had a problem with it. I felt God was in control the entire time, but it's getting to the point sometimes you look at all the things you pray so long you've done all the things the Bible says to do and you have all the people and sometimes God just doesn't do what you think you shut and that's God's choice, but I do know this, that if it is according to God's will, he will not do it if we doubt him and Karen Baptist Church.

I am somehow asking you as a church.

I believe with all my heart God to do great and wonderful things here at this point, but what scares me to death. Is that some have been here so long. And thank God for you and some of the new ones that have come in.

My fear is that you would begin to think over the years you prayed and you tried and you've done these things.

If you haven't seen some things happen and you haven't seen some areas grow and my fear is that you would begin to think that God just won't do it, dear friend, I am asking you now. God probably can do it. In fact, I believe he will. And I know my deathbed and God hadn't.

Don't tell me I'm stupid to believe he will.

I don't know when.

I don't know how I don't know where but I believe God could do something miraculous and amazing at this church.

Look what he's done for 50 years Lord of this church grew at a rate that it grew a brother Joe came what you have 30 people at one time is running over a thousand home with all the buses and everything so we had at that time and you will get a strong church now minute if you grew under my ministry like that we have 10 15,000 people, but I still believe God can do it. I believe it we can have a huge building on this property. I believe you have a bill it's actually busting at the seams.

I believe we can get to the point of man that balconies full chairs around for me were start to run around sweat. How low are we to get everybody and I believe God can do it. I believe we can have 100 people require. I still believe it. I believe that they can invent fat-free sugar-free Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I have claimed Mark 1124, whatever things you desire. When you believe doubt kills our power. Faith keeps his power did you get that doubt kills our power. Faith keeps his power. You and I can get to the point that we doubt God's plan. We doubt his provision. We doubt his power, we can get to the point that we doubt his care. We doubt his concern. We doubt his capabilities think that God demands from us. He demands for us that we have in him and believe that he can no some you might say brother pottery. I will have a rule, my Sunday school classes and have a lot of people in what I'm asking for you is for you to every day of your life. Get up and believe that God can fill that classroom, so I don't how is going to do.

I don't either but I know he can. Not only do I know we can. But you and I have got to shift into the mode that we believe he will. We've got to have enough faith that God will remove that mountain, some you sale my marriage is an absolute shambles. Limitation of the you need to have some faith in God that he will fix it. That doesn't mean you lay back and be it. You know little worldly life and treat each other like dogs and then they look at why hasn't God fixed you got to do your part. That's what faith is all about faith without works is what dad to get anywhere if you're not doing something to do, but I believe that seat as he dried up that figtree. God can control it. God can bless if you want God to bring blessings on this church. God can bring people on this church got to see people say we can see that history baptizing every Sunday.
