Well, you can return in four weeks. I still think the Dallas Cowboys they're going to return to the basement. I have zero expectations for them to do a damn thing this year. Sorry, what else is new.

We talked about Mike Tomlin.

In my free time when I can find some going to figure out and think about a way to put some of these hilarious voices into one cartoon, try my best. Stay tuned. See if I can do I gotta tell you as well. Later on this hour with her to be joined by an NBA or he's not an NBA. He is the reigning defensive player of the year. His name is Marcus Mark. He is the first man to win defensive player of the year at the guard position since some guy named Gary Payton, the glove didn't more than 20 years ago and so market smart is going to join us in about I don't know about 40 minutes will have market smart on and you got a blank the NFL season came back rather quickly.

NBA teams will be back in training camp and a couple weeks this season is going to start in about a months time and someone asked Marcus about the Celtics.

Some of the new additions Malcolm Brogdon is on the squad and then he's also working on something amazing for the community and so market smart is going to join us later on in the show and that should be fun. Unfortunately, that's not the only news in the NBA that is come down the pipe that I have to share with you. It was a little bit of a shock or surprise today or maybe not so much to learn that the NBA is punishing another owner. The last owner to get a major punishment in the NBA. You don't have to look any further than Donald Sterling in 2014, Adam Silver just became the Commissioner, he just took over for David Stern and he had a crisis on his hands right in front of him. Donald Sterling, who formerly owned the clippers hey Shep what what what I call Donald's. What was that his mistress that was his mistress right yes she was in for love is. She wasn't in for love, she found an old guy in his 80s and she must've been in her 20s and the what was she looking for sharp you want to be. I remember that she wanted a hug. She just wanted a hug at the skillet that she just wanted he would pass no bond. I'm that's my guess what he was married. I understand that but he still married.

I believe will anyway. Donald Sterling was hanging out with a young woman who wasn't his wife. I'll allow you to draw conclusions well. She happened to record him and some of the things he said will not. Some of the things a lot of the things he said were racist about his own players in his positions, and how he put them into spots in it. It basically got him a lifetime ban from the NBA in 2014 he was forced to sell the team to their new owner Steve Ballmer of Microsoft payment. We see Steve Ballmer sitting behind the basket losing his mind. I will know at what because none of the stars ever play, but Steve Ballmer owns the team and Donald Sterling got a lifetime ban and I guess it's not too bad when you get the boot and you make to Balian dollars as a result that's a hell of a punishment right.

Not too bad for Mr. Donald Sterling, who by the way, is currently 88 years old and sold Donald Sterling was the last guy to get a punishment. A major one until today the NBA. We found out has find sons owner Robert Sarver $10 million because he violated workplace standards and I know that is a a very blanket statement and if you allow me a few seconds.

I will detail to you. What that means, not only was he find $10 million for violating workplace standards. He's also been banned from his own scene for an entire year. Yes, we know the Phoenix Suns not this past season, but the year prior.

Last year this was a squad that was in the NBA finals in the didn't necessarily live up to expectations this past season due to injuries, but this isn't this isn't some bottom dwelling franchise. There's still an expectation that they'll they'll come back within older Chris Paul and a more established Devon Booker and eight and getting paid and instill bridges. They are Booker, etc. that they're going to compete in the Western Conference but Robert Sarver will not be able to participate in, stick around and if you want to know what violating workplace standards are yes there there are many areas where he was pretty much a complete jackass. He is a deal. ESPN published the story back in November of last year and it pretty much detailed allegations of Robert Sarver just helping to foster an environment of misogyny and racism and bullying in the organization where he asked the owner was pretty much the ringleader, and in some of these these accusations, which were levied on him. They were investigated by the NBA for the past year the NBA hired a law firm to go ahead and investigate these claims and they pretty much check a lot a lot of boxes what it Robert Sarver do. How about we start here. This man had no problem and no issue with repeating the N-word. He wanted to tell stories and he wanted to say and there were multiple instances where he said this and admitted it. How about one instance, Robert Sarver was in the recruitment state stage with the free agent and he was recalling the story with a black player.

They try to recruit a black player and he used the N-word everybody, told him hey man, you can't say that there was another instance where Robert Sarver was mad. He was upset that a player on the warriors didn't get a technical foul for using the N-word. And so, Robert Sarver. He went on a fit following again using that and they told him hey man, you can't say that, stop it.

There was another instance where the family of a player was on the team plane and he repeated that whenever I hey you can't say that and so not only did he say that word.

There were also instances where he would talk about the appearance of women in the workplace. There was one point in time where at his business. He encourage the women to have all women meeting so all of the women could pretty much just try to understand his expectations of him were of them I should say. They said he bullied he insulted. He made crass and crude jokes of a sexual nature. He said one of the female employees would no longer be able to do her job competently because a she was a woman and she was pregnant. So he sounds like a caveman jackass to me. Is there a combination of the two where you can just just combining that think the answer is yes and so after a full investigation after hundreds of interviews after going through messages and emails the law firm that the NBA hired pretty much said that yeah this man fostered an environment unbecoming of a a professional environment but would be anything like it's not okay to say these things and do these things. It doesn't matter if it's if it's 2022. No matter if we go back into the 1950 and so Robert Sarver he's been find $10 million he has to go through counseling and classes, etc. the organization is going to be watched by the NBA for the foreseeable future.

Here the money the $10 million fine is going to go to organizations that help battle misogyny battle racism and a lot of folks who say in folks who were interviewed and also fire no longer part of the organization. They can't believe that Robert Sarver is being allowed to keep the team but what's the difference between this and Donald Sterling while Donald Sterling was much more direct and how he wanted to refer to his own players Robert Sarver, it doesn't appear to be evidence of him being direct or being directly insulting to his players so anyone in general. He's just being a jackass. He's being ignorant he's being an ass.

My contact on some of the words there, but I think I think you get my figure what I'm saying and if you want to know what type of person he is.

There's no better indicator of this than the additional report that he was not in favor and he was not happy with the fact that he was being fined $10 million. He was not happy with the fact that he will be suspended from his own franchise he can't go to and attend team meetings. He can attend league meetings. He can't going to the building.

You can't go to the practice facility he's gone now as I go to be accurate is he not going to. I don't know. Hit up James Jones and ask him what's going on with his team. Is he not going to participate in any way shape or form in the organization, it's always workarounds. This is similar to the NBA trying to find God's for tampering is no way around it.

You can't make Robert Sarver just disappear off the face of the earth when it comes down to billionaires and people who have this much money, what's the real punishment if Robert Sarver was forced to sell the sons will what is he supposed to do some and walk away with how much two $3 billion as a helluva punishment now as it Robert Sarver bought the sons and 2004 from the calendula house. He paid at that time for hundred million dollars. The Phoenix Suns right now are worth multitudes of that billions of dollars in Robert Sarver. He knows about money, no surprise here. His dad was a banker. He was a hotel developer Robert Sarver got into banking.

Then he got into real estate and be a helluva punishment if he was forced to sell the team now wouldn't it.

And of course we got a billionaire crying about being fined $10 million and being told to go away for year must be a terrible life to have billions of dollars in a just just go away. You can't babysit your toy for year what a harsh punishment I think is billions of dollars and be told to take a hike, sign me up, honoring the watch, a season of Chris Paul taken $40 million for me and falling apart at the end of the season because he's old and broken. No thank you that's besides the point, I take no issue with the punishment that Robert Sarver received because in reality you make that much money ain't that big of a punishment asked Donald Sterling. He's about 90 years old this at this point he's a billionaire. What was the punishment that he doesn't have a plaything. He does have a play toy with the clippers. I think he's doing just fine in his old age, all things considered, here's the difference. Robert Sarver is guilty of being an ass, a jerk being bold, being a bully, utilizing his money and his position to beat up on folks. Sounds like someone like Daniel Siler who in a different space just has kind of ignored every single detail or situation having a deal with just being a quality human being, you know, not objectifying women actually being considerate to the people who pay tickets to see you but this is nothing new. People have been utilizing their money and their influence in their power to do these things for ever. If you think Robert Sarver is the first person to be a bully think Robert Sarver is the first or last person to you know use the N word in front of people are not in front of folks and men you you must be living in an utopia if the NBA found any reason that he was off full-blown racist and not just the jackass. He would've been gone and so is he gonna learn a lesson. Probably not, but this is what it boils down to in sports. He is not ruining the money enough to give him the boot.

This is a slap on the wrist for billionaire who happens to be a petulant child, and ultimately a bully. Maybe if you had to work a day in his life he view life a little bit differently so I take no issue with the punishment handed down by Adam Silver, but I'll tell you this, Adam Silver, he's still the best commissioner in sports and nobody got about 1000 and a punishment handed down to Robert Sarver.

It's it's a warning shot. It really is and can we really be surprised we can go to the Sarver's of the world. We can go look at the Sterlings we can look at other owners behaving badly. Hi Robert Kraft, and we can look at would billions of dollars. What they do for you, especially when you're part of the club.

Other owners are typically not going to punish other owners because we got a lot of owners who are doing dirt they don't want things exposed Robert Sarver he got caught is the jar sport. We show here with you on CBS sports radio 855-2124 CPS.

That's 855-2124 CBS we talk about punishments coming all the time for players not being on par with owners while Anthony MN Edwards. He got into some trouble himself over the weekend I got the phone lines open will talk about Anthony Edwards and then will have a quick conversation with Marcus Mark of the Boston Celtics is the jar sport ratio CBS sports radio you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio medical degree. But long-term long-term nuclear program call American artery. Phil.

You have played a quality product on that holy now with 855-2124 CBS that's right it's the JR sport ratio here with you on CBS sports radio. I need to let you know about this. The defensive player of the week is sponsored by the Navy Federal credit Union who probably serves the Armed Forces DoD veterans and their families, their members are the mission you can learn more@navyfederal.org and who's the defensive player of the week. Screw the week I'm giving you the reigning defensive player of the year in the NBA. His name is Marcus Mark why is he my defensive player of the week because he's going to join us here in about 15 minutes and why not Marcus Mark help lead a turnaround for the Boston Celtics. Starting back in November. He talked about the team needing more camaraderie needing to pass the ball around needing operate more as a team.

Well, what are they do. They ran all the way to the NBA finals representing the Eastern conference Marcus Mark. He became the first guard to win the defensive player of the year award since Gary Payton did it in the 90s, 20, 22, Marcus Mark your Navy Federal credit player of the week, he's going to join us in about 15 minutes from now. Right before we went to break up told you about Robert Sarver who happens to be the owner of the Phoenix Suns. He was fined $10 million. He's been suspended. He's going to be forced to stay away from his own team in every capacity for the next year because of just a litany of workplace issues.

Anything that you could think of data. The boss would be awful at work he did it, mistreatment of women making people uncomfortable bullying crass in crude jokes.

He had no problem and no issue with utilizing language that most would find to be an appropriate repeating the N-word when multiple staffers and players have told him hey man, you need to stop, you need to chill you need to relax and he did these things anyway and now he's being punished and reports say that he wasn't happy and didn't agree with his $10 million fine and being banned for year well just some rich kid is going to find anything wrong with everything, poor me, woe is me. Let's see if he actually comes back a year from now and happens to be contrite or maybe even better.

Let's see if he comes back and is a better man will you scholar from Boston. He's on CBS sports radio but I doubt that gravity your monologue and knowledge.

While I like it. Good versus bad people, and God now Sarver log in a bottle exactly like you are talking about. You never had been against it.

Like the rest of us out here have an awful day-to-day and he became very ignorant of not doing the color of his skin is very limited personal ignorance and that I appreciate you being a non-rabbit.

I got my guys about come on here and you got nothing but hostile from Brava with number 36 just like the anymore down and felt Boston your possible umbrella growing out of middle school.

I don't need to digress but good people are good people and valuable need to lose their job. Yeah… It's a tough thing to do when you got billions of dollars as they lose another job. When you other. When you're the boss is there is air losing of the job by what were you going to do the most you and then this would happen or this would have to be a change in the bylaws of all of these organizations are whether be the NFL were majorly baseball, the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. etc. like if you behaved badly that you can you can lose your investment. It should change it really should, but there's really going to have to be a change. It's unfortunate that things have to happen for real change to take place. That is the worst thing and it shouldn't be that way really shut it. But why should someone behaving badly quote "be punished and only get a slap on the wrist like a more now. I don't care how old Donald Sterling was he's 88 now eight years. He was 80 years old when he had to sell his team for $2 billion. Would that hurt beside his ego and his pride. I mean, I think most of us here on out I be thrilled to be punished and make make $2 billion and oh yeah by the way he sued the NBA and it came to an agreement with a settlement like like Donald Sterling needed more money just how one portion of the world. One small portion of the world operates. But things do need to change if you're going to be a Robert Sarver or you're going to be a Donald Sterling war. I can go on down the line if you going to be a Daniel Snyder if you behave in this type away. You should be able to keep your franchise yeah this is a is a different era not now you gotta pay billions to Biotene. These guys bought team Sarver bought the sons and 2004 Snyder's had his team for about 20 years now we can go on down the line.

Sterling on the Clippers for the better part of of 30 years like they bought these teens for hundreds of millions of dollars. And now here 20 and 30 years later there able to flip them for billions should be a case if you're gonna be this awful of a human being. If you gotta be this awful of a jerk you will be this trash it's real simple you should lose your investment. You should get the boot and you should lose your money. I think that is definitely going to change the approach of of most owners in all different employers. The players make millions of dollars and if they screw up they can lose it all. They can be fined, but they don't have no golden parachute to the amount of billions of dollars doesn't work that way here over the weekend we had Anthony Edwards. This man is a star in the NBA. He might be on his way to superstardom. And for whatever reason, still at 21 years old.

He's still learning that maybe you shouldn't put everything on social media. This man put a video up on his Instagram story. He saw a bunch of men happen to be standing around without their shirts on.

He said all man. It's so sad. We got a bunch of fill in the blank and he called them a derogatory term and he's just he put it online. He insinuated that these guys were gay but he decided to use a slower and he wanted to put it on Loni thought it was a joke and of course he got eviscerated for and he apologized. I was a mature, hurtful, disrespectful, and incredibly sorry it's unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way. There's no excuse for it at all. I was raised better than that.

The wolves agreed and he's probably going to be fine.

$50,000 so maybe a little bit more. So while world, but we get punished billionaires can get punished stuff one to the JR sport ratio here with you on CBS sports radio limits take a break and we come back when I have a conversation with the NBA defensive player of the year Boston Celtics Marcus smart you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio JR sport ratio right here with CBS sports radio year, the NFL season is underway, but we are going to Blake and we will write back and a basketball party still going on in the world right now we are being joined by right now, this minute, this second the rainy defensive player of the year. He's a former Oklahoma State cowboy. He is a Boston Celtic is my main man Marcus smart Marcus I do bro government thanks, no doubt about it. I know you were different type of cowboy in college, man, and I know you're a fan of the cowboys coming up the Metroplex. First question can you play quarterback as I think Jerry might be one man man. Don't get me started. I like about bicycles that I was just wanted to play quarterback Marcy was my lame will Jerry needs one of those to what you think what you think will cowboys go look like the rest of you men I look too good. Unfortunate size manic. I was going to cowboys persons operating on 28 March 20 years and unchanged real good time were really matters.

Unfortunately yet how much everybody is so will see about my expectations on how you over those expectations about Marcus smart is here with us man we know were getting ready for new season in the NBA. We saw with the Celtics that you want defensive player of the year y'all went to the NBA finals were coming into a new season. It seems like we snap our fingers and bull will already here. What is that experience.

What can you and the rest of the squad segment experienced last year and this comes mentally draining out monthly training and especially you not worry dinner multiple times and they understand what was going to take everything they were prepared. Mamas cancel styles every reverent site that means you know you go to the artist must allow students to succeed no matter why God is regarded and I think there's something will mountain you talk about even the change last season. You talk about more. The T-ball started November we saw how your starter off the new year all the way to the finals. Now you add someone like Malcolm Brogdon who was very complimentary of you. Your IQ and how you play what you have to say to an addition like him and what we can bring something and that question actually see as much about our last recently so, but the stories are all starting to stay you know you know is this very will just follow me the team last year. Boston Celtics gas production stance out about somebody's team is a good defender so that all great and another bigger body of the goblins IQ is just as hotspot and other gospel team makes is more than Marcus Morrissey with those rainy defensive player of the year in the NBA man I know you even stop the will work out early so we can go ahead and have this chat what you added to your game you not the same players as is when you came and what have you been working on the summer. What have you seen from any of the other players on the team as well that each and every year you got to get better for me that last year Carl demanded more Christian me really being able to suggest the ball around our candidate while teammates need me to help guys like Jacob Jason just really continued to all my skills of being a leader on the court.

We are really just becoming more of a threat. We know Jason is a great score is also been working on facilitating styled time spots were scored and also working on getting everybody also involves well so working all things that we think we should work on the things that we are great discontinues almost measured our love to Marcus, you talk about being more polished point guard when you want defensive player of the year. One of my favorite folks in a real nice guy's a funny guy to rip the hell out of you GP Gary Payton and connect you with with with that award. A. Were you shocked that you received were used to seeing big men get the defensive player of the year award and what was the first thing GP told you how the Alice Carlisle to grab sand rightly so. They do a lot but it also is this really happens guard rails of Sean contribute our contribution contributes a better stance of the tyrannical blocks rebound will P you are bidding to get the shot gun shooting the Sonos is God.

We got a Chase dental screen directory and in chasing down following chart. So as we do a lot talk you suggest not only that GP man himself. The last guard to do it and you wore himself was in itself useful to people while just talking to talk to Rhonda when he gave that award finally did find out. Q: so that meant a lot, especially you tip your head to get Marcus Martin.

She witnessed the JR sport ratio CBS sports radio year manner.

GP is the best the last one. If this is almost 20+ years ago as a guard just never talk to GP about those nine this conversation is never been of a positive don't do that now that it Marcus you talk about GP. One of the greatest point guards ever adjust your style of play your tenacity and this is something amazing that you doing right now. One of the key reasons that you play ball the way that you do this because your family and you are working on a great cost to spread awareness right now would be the match and also for Aflac explained to the folks why you play ball so hard and what your connection would be the matches explainable people listen right now were definitely so young is a floorboards so you know, especially you know you find out scratching your car your way for whatever you want and I'll work on three of so I'm find not one but 234 at a time so when I come to court for me is if I can find my brothers who every day_off the court record.

Specifying so let's talk about my mom and as she's the most time is to have four boys and still demand that respect. No sign is a mother that's right. It takes more than anything so sand it wasn't like I was the baby from our judiciary through the voice you didn't know was so good on the court that comes out on everything you and then on top of also I lost my mom four years ago to cancer bomber lost my brother allow back by 1416 years ago, lung cancer, and so part of Aflac and be the match to be able to help bring awareness to cancer and sickle-cell and other related diseases, something that has hit home for me personally I think something that goes hand in hand and the way that Aflac continues to. Greg outlets really really close that gap fight the fight help them find you when they could seem to going exactly clerical, no matter what sort continue to sign socks Marcus Morrissey with us JR sport ratio CBS sports radio encourage everyone to go ahead and check out be the matching we know when it comes down to sickle-cell and even blood disorders and diseases, and cancers. Unfortunately these these things disproportionately affect African Americans think it's a matter of one, 365 of black Americans will be affected by it by such men talk about the importance of just some of the health inequities that we see we know we used to toughen it out and just like this is a little bit of pain or this is just a minor thing and you keep going until you find out that something larger talk about the importance of just getting checked out. Yes, you with the technology we have now. We can catch a lot earlier than we use to which obviously will help stars decorate the variance of the assignment so you know people don't really know and understand very educated about something such as sickle-cell dinners makes it less more informed know one or want to go say you know what what can I change and have a chance, such as being able to go and be enjoined out and swap the registry option for you know so is tough but exhausted research and ask questions. Go. Check find out how I'm going to check because you never know.

Are you doing that saving a life lives across absolutely Marcus Mark joined us JR sport ratio CBS sports radio as we wrap things up. That's for our own health. I think it's also important for healthcare providers, doctors and nurses will also be open-minded that people come from different backgrounds and different places. We got a lot of people who listed working in the hospitals working in the field send in the patient's what message would you share to healthcare providers about being open minded and also listening to people different backgrounds about the weather saying that everybody deserves a chance to think that not everybody deserves a chance to be able to have a chance to talk. No matter what color your world, no matter what you find. Appreciate that Marcus talked to the Celtic fans argued every body without agreeing with that white only expecting another mindset of finals. I mean this will be talking to Eastman what you got say some folks something is good Boston Celtics new. We never expected expected to be know I can dig it, Marcus. I encourage everyone what's on the checkout be the match working to keep up with you missed the defensive player of the cube over me as the ground again changed everything you see me out.

The city of Malaga city some CSX so common to guard regarding on their red ribbon to see you again changed props Marcus Mark for everything that is going on the basketball court and also making sure that you know you can use your profile help other people make a lot.

JR sport ratio here with you on CBS sports radio we are going to take a break and we come back to get some more basketball
