It's great to have you know you are out Victor you're out in the is it correct me if I'm wrong, but the great state of Washington right yet I'm in Vancouver, Washington, Vancouver, Washington.

I figure from out there you been a wrestling fan if if so for how long the starless is a little bit about Victor Turnbull. Well, I've been a wrestling fan I would. I would actually my first match. When I was three years old while okay old Portland sports arena all sports arena and and and I remember coming out there for some of the shows and in as I remember Don always was the main promoter out there and in the in the Pacific Northwest. Yet there was imminent brother brother Elton.

It was rated, not Elton. I had not met and had never met, but I but I sure remember Don. In fact, to this day I still say… When it came to paydays. Don gave us some of the best payoffs of any promoter in the business that I ever worked for that. As I remember Don Owens your basically ran like your mom and Eugene okay and then Don Don pretty much handle the Portland area not now.

Besides, the Russian nightmare, not deductible. All who are some of the other essay is three years old so let me jog your memory core.

Some of the other wrestlers you remember out there in the in the Pacific Northwest. Well, the main one that I remember growing up because I was at you Jimmy super quiet. Okay, he was legendary on I had my picture taken with him anytime a court embodiment, yeah. I didn't realize that he he had spent some some time out there out there. Important fact. I read us a story just recently a story of a between him and him and Terry Funk. I think Terry at the time had the NWA world heavyweight championship. Jesse was made.

Maybe the local heavyweight champion there and you are yeah and and he was there as I heard the story he had like 103° fever and they were supposed to go a one hour draw and just as I Terry there's just there's no way there's just no way I can. I can wrestle you for an hour in a guy just don't tears like brother will make it happen in as Jesse tells the story. Terry was unbelievable, just basically carried him through the entire match. In fact, in fact, this is it for the fans out there and you might even be able to visualize this, Victor.

Jesse had like out like would put his finishing move bareback and that it was a full Nelson okay and add he had Terry in a full Nelson for like the last like 15, 20, 30 seconds of the match and and the referee started calling for the bell and all the people thought Jesse one the belt.

He walks over the referee like to get the belt Terry had melted to the mat. Right from the pressure of the full Nelson. Add add that the raft was over and and and awards. Terry, the belt of the fans were crazy like no just you want to just like no I want to.

Sorry that that the time limit the time of it expired but I heard him say I quit. I heard him say I quit. It was is the greatest sending the two in our match, but the main part of that story is. Jesse had 103° fever that that's for the young wrestlers out there who might even listen to the show today hey back in the day that you wrestled regardless give you an resume paying back and really big like you know you work. You can read that that's exactly right. So more about the Billy Jack Keynes was sleeping out there in the in the Northwest directly have the privilege I got to work out with Billy Jack in the gym quite a bit. No way. Come on come to arm a quick little background I was trained out here in Oregon by young people are yeah I member Jesse yes and Cody had Jim and a wrestling rule that we market okay and go upstairs with the GM and the wrestling ring and all of that and Billy would come over and work on and I can't wait to work out with Billy quite a few times actually and that's okay so and so you you getting involved with with Jesse and what what'd that girl is one of that lead to Victor Teller listeners Mark Greer and hand it to wait a minute, all wrestling sulfate King County admitted what you believe that Victor I got Laura I would come home at night I would be so tired that I would have to have my girlfriend take off my boots anymore. You you said they wanted. They wore you out. What we trying to be when I trained. We trained or in 1/2 hours a day while they between between running lifting weights or swing work. So it was about order hours a day six days a week well and you remind me of a story of guiding Lodi who solicits may or may not be familiar with Lodi. He wrestled with WCW will chip in suppressing base about 95 to 2007.

I do realize that he recently she shared with me that his first four sessions and training in professional wrestling. Essentially, when he came back for his fifth time that the guy training goes, you can keep coming back. Archie's like will yeah want to be arrested would mean he goes what we spent the first four sessions, just beating you up to try to run you off.

I would hundred 65 pound okay I will. I would take you to call me back when we were crying, I was the runt of the litter. Okay, okay, we had guys from the biggest was 340 on down while not now so so how many years did you spend it in ink involved in the business that were active about three years and then I got I got injured yet when I I've been involved in some aspect of it and I would 18 okay I want to listen is the realize and understand that that you know wrestling is entertainment but but there are plenty see of injuries that that occurred wrestling because it's not an exact science. Right whatnot I got hurt on which story Kate backing Lee well-trained and it was practiced in a piledriver and you can protect me.I And I kept telling them like… Put me down like no no no, go ahead and get it in when you drop me on my car stuck up vertebrae in my neck. Yup similar stone cold Steve Austin right yet and after that it would you know that I was done. Yup, you would like, okay, I can go and continue to do that but you have a family yeah well and I still stayed. I still stayed no, I did you know anything that I could do that upbringing I carry the guy you know I did. I'm still very well by now with cold. It got everything messed up, but are pretty cold, but I was working a couple different promotions out here doing the color commentary.you got the Sausalito ball for long time now.

It's been helping that I've always wanted you went to my first Mac.

Are you still remember telling my mom I wanted something that I want to do and I know Randy and Jeff the whole family. I've known my whole life and they took it took really good care of me. If it wasn't for them. I wouldn't know nothing about faith taught me the proper way about the business to learn every aspect of the business that you can learn all school and the date you think that you know everything will hang up your that's right that's right think they talk to the old school psychology.

How did you how did you start well and it is a very unusual way. In that you would know amateur wrestling background. No professional training just a phone call from a dear buddy of mine, a good friend of mine by the name of road where animal who had broken in the business is having some success in an guy named Don Col. who was Ivan Cole office taking.

There were the NWA will take team champions and and just basically said they come up with a storyline for nephew for Ivan. He said you know any big guys would my shipment had become a Russian. That was the question in Al's like I know the guy right now, so he call me share that story with me.

Give me a phone number for a promoter here on the East Coast named Jim Crockett, Junior had a five minute conversation with him made sure he understood know amateur background. No professional training in the day I showed up at his office and walked in. He took a look at me and pardoned me up with with Ivan and Don, I became the key to call, was born in the hallways of Charlotte with with with with zero training about how to go to a Jesse Barr training school. I had none and I debuted the next night in Raleigh North Carolina at the Dorton arena on television.

Having no experience. Talk about being thrown into the fire and that was my not my beginning. I like to tell people. In fact, I just did. I just recently updated my last book which is my life story called Nikita a tale of the ring and redemption. You can get that I cough.net at the store there on the on the website and I just wrote several new chapters and added some more new pictures it to where people can get the whole story I just gave you in our listeners.

The cliff notes version, but is there so much more that story, but that was my my introduction you mentioned on your mark, huge watching and learning how I actually learned beside my training. I will take you VHF collector I mean like that in front of my TV. My girlfriend that I will get mad at me because I would sit in front of the TV for our study. Kate right? You get that was smart.

That's mortal for you to do in order to learn and perfect the crap like you said you lifetime learner and want want to continue to to improve your skills in the ring right and Jeff and I watched. I mean, I will. I didn't like limit my watching style.

I know we could talk a lot.

I will talk more talk more this fall will let others know why this here shortly, but I want to transition here and she was a lot of fun talking about wrestling but you message me and Instagram, and it really caught my attention to, like, okay, I need to reach out to this guy and this is more to the story and I guess well for the listeners.

I want to just a few weeks ago. This is what you think. I'm looking at it now is I want to what I want to say it as you as you wrote it and I could you message me. She just wanted to say thank you.

A few years back. You saved my life.

Then you went on to say I was in a bad place, getting ready to end it. I turned on the TV to see you and lacks in the message. The message that Lex and I were speaking made you drop the knife now were transitioning some from from what what was fun and entertainment is something pretty serious, but can you just briefly Victor a in you I talked actually prior to this show and you shared some of that story with me, but can you give kind of a a condensed version to help our listeners understand what you meant by that. When you sent that to me right away. My my girlfriend at the time and didn't tell me that you have quickly been with wrestling with kind of winding down territory with kinder will be transitioning. I was like to live with my boys and wrestling. When I had when you all my mom a moment want you to know that I love you very much I love you too son. Oh, I went to the kitchen and I went into the bedroom and the main character in the TV on, is to ground out the north of the court. You know I don't want my mom to hear their TV on and on. On the floor a little prayer you Lex came on and I have a knife to my throat I was pressing. I still have actually a little scar from it. I didn't go but there's a scar there and ready to put the full force into it and comment. No matter what your day is like find a reason to wake up every morning with a smile on your face and know that God will not give you more than you can handle.

And when you said that I literally pulled the knife away from my throat, walked the knife on the floor, ran to my mom crying and I converse with him on one unit number and that I just try to do my life I need to call 911 and I need to go to the hospital.

Went to the hospital. I checked in the hospital. I stayed voluntarily stayed 30 day inpatient to deal with it at me on medication that I will. I'll take for the rest of my life, but in all honesty, if it wasn't for you and Lex, I can guarantee you 99 and I would be sitting here talking to on the phone today right well yeah I think I can guarantee it. I was that I was out of the lope when I had nothing left. I was in such a dark place that I saw no light anywhere rages so you had nothing left to live for. There was nothing in suet. What's amazing to me is that she was sharing some of that in inner inner in our conversation once once we connected by phone was that I'm just thinking even as I'm replaying a re-listening to you share this story again is in and for our listeners out there. Consider, you know, Victor, your story today, there may be somebody listening today that may be in that very same place feels like they have nothing else to live for but but it just to know that there is a God of the universe that that loves each and every one of us that were created in his image that is much as we don't think there's nothing else to live for. He gives us something to live for if we just turn our eyes to him and turn our focus upon him.

What amazes me is here's what amazes me is two guys did two guys that that you more or less looked up to the most in the wrestling business. Having spent many many years in in the industry yourself in the business yourself. God, in my view, divinely puts those two guys on your television screen to to interrupt what you were planning on doing to let you know that he is he is God who loves each and every one of us and he's out there and he he orchestrated that happening at that very moment for you to to drop the knife and and and change. Change your future right you know and people that might be a little you're going to have struggled every day of your life. I still I still have struggled like I have an amazing girlfriend, Dr. Jeremy, I inherited two beautiful daughters from her. My son my thunderbolt above the other twin both of them were living with us now. We still have struggles because you know were combined in a household, but if it wasn't for them there. There one of the reasons why I wake up every morning because I have time to look forward to know we just came back from Idaho. We just took a big family you know trip with a big theme park had a great time. Also, we have struggles. You just have to learn to find something, no matter what it is that going to make you smile and filthy.

I got to wake up tomorrow because I got this to look for right and and now I want to emphasize far listeners out there something you just said that with were all look we would live in a fallen, broken world were all going to have struggles we we all are F. I've had my share likes is been a cyst given my life to Jesus something October 1993 I miss been a roller coaster of a ride it's been highs and is below's twists and turns, ups and downs and and what has sustained me through it all is my personal relationship with Jesus and so ill for those out there listening.

Maybe you don't have that maybe don't have the personal relationship you've never surrendered your heart or your life to the Lord and I just want to encourage even as you listening to some of Victor story today will make that decision today is is no promise of tomorrow, and I assure you I can feel confident say if you genuinely surrender your heart to the Lord you will wake up every day with purpose and intent and know that you have something to live for.

If at very least that personal relationship with Jesus who sticks closer than a brother and will never leave you nor forsake you. And so Victor let me to transition our last our last a few minutes together here today will be transitioned to say this so so you you you you have the same if you have this experience and here you are now a number of years later and I just reminded here you store your boys now are back with you and and you get in you inherited a couple amazing girls in the ad is God's a God of restoration in God's got a redemption and and reconciliation and so thrilled to hear that but something exciting's coming up in this fall is well and that is that you actually then through our conversations. You've made a decision and from what I recall from our phone call have the support of your girlfriend you are coming to man camp.

You've already signed up.

You've already registered, and so you gave us that she might see you get the hang out with it with two of your heroes in wrestling for for five days. Even more important than that which which is all well and good. Is that your coming and use your submitting yourself to the process of of running after the heart of God. Yeah, you get the hang out election. I to run after the heart of God for five days and here's what I believe Victor that God is going to equip you is going equip you to give some tools for your toolbox. You may see tools in your in your toolbelt for you to go back home and and and and be better equipped to be that godly man that God desires a godly husband and a godly father and are you excited about that that are alarming.

I feel weird about it or not. When I now that this was that this was the reality. I do not have or my girlfriend told me right from the day you looking to get on the phone right now and registered it, do it right now.

Kudos to you share a good job Sherry encouraging you man. Good job absolutely normal to me girlfriend that I have ever had. We've only been together going on 16 months.

Right now, what she fully support. I mean everything awesome. She is my rock awesome. You know she's got me going back to the gym because II had a yard or not, long ago about two months ago I had a mini stroke.

Okay from because I'm diabetic like once I got out of the hospital, she got me going back to the gym. She completely revamped my diet awesome like a my rock well let want to do this. I appreciate your time today and so so so grateful that the man I'm good. I'm just thankful that the Lord had Lex and I on on on your television set that day and lo and behold now you get the opportunity. Like I said that to spend a few days with us but I pray for you and Sherry right you. I just want to close the show today with a prayer. I just feel impressed to do that. Thank you Lord that you drop that knife in a Lord didn't didn't end it all. But Lord, that that that began the process of of a new vision for his life and that's led to this conversation, leading him to man camp in the fall, God, that you have so much more for Hammond and for Sherry Lord. Just your blessing upon Sherry and in the children as they as they would drain race he shall train them up in the way they should go that they would not depart from it. God, that they just impart into these children just godly principles and and model for them what it looks like to live a godly life and so Lord just prepare Victor's heart Lord for for camp of the fall and will give you all the honor and glory and praise because you deserve it all just love you from the bottom of our heart.
