Perfect Christmas gift. Why not the one she can have a couple checkup.

Maybe it's not the get for your family but it gives the perfect gift for poor family in Asia. A chicken can break the cycle of poverty for poor family yes chicken chicken thanks provide nourishment for family and they can sell those exit the market for income when you donate a chicken or any other gospel for Asia. 100% of what you give goes to the field and get the ball went gospel fundraiser to support family and Jesus family this Christmas and give them 66 when Asian chickens campaign Rosenberg desires was going on as a caregiver, 877-655-6755 for the show 87764565 should lug up lot of information unpack today for family caregivers. It's about helping you stay strong and healthy care for someone who is not glad you're part of the show join me. As always, is himself a bed of the board so seller will engineering the elf on the shelf. The mention of the bet she is the man who loves Christmas John Butler everyone and I saw you as just about everybody to get the curtains and grace. Everyone with my voice.

Apparently you would like you love you love. I absolutely love Christmas. It is a fantastic.

The most well do you are you kids excited. They very much are you and this is your year for everybody. So this is going to be a little bit different family over anything like that. Unfortunately, but got oh that is still in the air that I might like a beef Wellington market there for Thanksgiving last year I noticed to be at least one cheesecake involved. I don't know how the question is how many cheesecakes are involved. Which brings me to our first gift you can give yourself a note about series on gifts the caregivers can give to themselves, and we've had quite a few good ones we've had. We've had the one where you you send a card to yourself sometimes you cannot which which I like that one a lot, and maybe still one of my more favorite ones. As far as your something this unique and different that nobody's ever really thought about before, but I like that with low investment. You know then you go to you if you gift yourself the gift of health and call your primary care physician or your tenured door and set up an appointment to take care of you physically and anguish, a Merry Christmas you know and you wish a Merry Christmas like that when the Dennis is separating a box full of Oreos.

So today we talked about. We don't do something physical and see think that I can't remember my mind. I might be and I might be doubling up here but that's okay that's okay something physical doesn't have to mean running a marathon just right. Just as the walk around and go for a walk and so forth doing something that brings joy to your heart like gardening or playing the piano or if explained it was playing the banjo the recording. I think you might need to go see your doctor first before you drag. It's just definition of a gentleman is a man who can play the banjo but won't Jesus not so the one for today. Speaking of cheesecake is all I know Medlin, but make one small change in your diet just a little and that's that goes along with the health and senior position, but yes were going to have cheesecake for Christmas or mincemeat pie or whatever it is. Youngest there is the holidays are a rough time for this one in particular, but this is a long-term thing and you know maybe maybe don't drink soda anymore. Maybe just have coffee or or or without sugar or I know this is this the South and unsweetened tea is trouble, but water even bites. Maybe try to trial because if you haven't I met recently and see if you something I have done mnemonic gone.

I'm not not getting religious about this. I'm just doing and that's a thing I'm not getting it 100% right, but I am really trying to watch. Okay, I'll tell you why I have been dealing with this problem with my left knee for some time now this this year and I have some arthritis in it and I've been under the impression I may be wrong with this but the gluten does not necessarily help arthritis and in so I thought well let me try not to swear off of every bit of it but I'm I'm going to consciously reduce it down and see what the results are, you know. And that's because we don't argue with those.

If it works, even if it's a placebo I'm great. Go for absolutely will grace and our son. You know he is been a pretty big kick and he's like drop 35 pounds since August, pushing himself to get in some superb shape, but he's incendiary sugar and read was yes. He just walked away from it and it's like just melted off of him and so you know, for caregivers that's hard because it's you can't just throw out everything in the house and start scratching things such as that. But you can start making conscious decisions just in this is all small change yeah yeah this is one small change in your diet now went out water is a lot cheaper than soda & it is something else out on yogurt. I have instead I like desserts like sweets and I will indulge in this year particularly, but it's having to keep a thing of Greek yogurt refrigerator and then some try to get some gluten-free but but not just good healthy granola and some berries right and that's my dessert is really good with blueberries and yogurt is tasty and nutritious. Since I get a say this to caregivers not to in any way say okay here's how you pierce the diet for caregivers that you know the right regular… You don't care about small changes very small changes to help us along our way because one step in the right direction is two steps away from the wrong direction exactly it. And so this is what we did to get another one. I do run out of time, but when I got I got at least I got two or three more that we can do it next week to isolation is something we talk about all the time and you if it's very difficult and 20/20 and this was written before them. So go to church or other places of worship might not be possible for everybody, especially if you like immunocompromised or something like that.

Maybe you can slip in and just listen the music from the way in the back denies the existence or something like that. You know well technology has changed so much that we can. He actually videoconference with each other and watch the same movie did you know yeah you do through it with a VR helmet. I can go to a concert and hang out with other people in VR helmet and a special place in the concert was it wasn't quite going there like this is good but just so you know technology is really really great, but you can. I know many many churches have virtual services where you can sit through it in and from the extreme pass from the Vatican on Christmas Eve and of its they it's it's not just a VR stuff is that you can actually sync up so that you watching the same movie the same time through a network yelling beyond the phones also Skype call yeah yeah yeah you can you can have your videoconference up for your FaceTime.

Whatever or just be on the phone and make commentary about the sermons like in real time just to be sure that whatever being something yeah yeah something that connects you with another human being and and it's an experiential thing something where you're both doing the same thing and you can chat about it and just, this is not a therapy session or anything like that, although those have their place and in those times when we break down and connect with our friends and loved ones in a way that's very important. That's, that's, that's a different thing. But to have just that regular social interaction with people that are close to you is, is incredibly important. Really, really good gift to give to yourself.

One of the things that I've done for me and this may not be for everybody. And some people may take some getting used to but I've done this for me and have done for years is I have a piece of technology that I use is a Bluetooth earpiece of holding it up right now. Now some people like the iPod but you know that the Bluetooth yeah yeah Darrell Pearson air but yeah those are fine. I don't have their little bit more expensive than what I'm using, but I've use this for years and it allows me I can't hold the phone and talk to people and get things done.

I know not what multitaskers I gotta be doing like two or three things.

One, so yeah I do smell thing in and speak my hands have to be free and I don't like speakerphone speakerphone, and in so I did this enough of worn out at least half a dozen if not more of the 60 because I'm on the phone a lot with with lot of things that do but it allows me to engage with people the right there with me talk to my parents almost every day. I've got my sister my brother, friends, family pastor, you don't name it. I talked to them and I will be in spite of what you're doing dishes yeah yeah I date the effect he always is. I have one got you totally sick. Don't you ever just sit down and talk it on like if I think I will waste that you always your pots and pans. In fact, I've actually done media interviews while while cooking dinner that was dwelling on.

You know at our national news thing and I was cooking dinner in the background but I did make apologies because it was dinner time, but I had to do.

Yeah, and you try to get the Basilica and whisk instead of the metal ones.

I know I found that that was incredibly helpful to me because it allowed me to engage with people talk with people but I didn't just sit there and do nothing when it right because I can't, as a caregiver rubbing I'm doing laundry and cooking and cleaning them ironing you know everything else in the good earner by the way I did, I do.

I'm learning. I will remind you like to go to this was really a thing like people ironing in the middle of a freeway or something like a slave was like planking or something like that. It's 20° outside we get snow if I'm learning on my Dick that's extreme learning, but it's so now I I I that allows me to do these things make up the bed and and just cooking dinner and do the dishes and so forth. But it also allows me to stay connected to people and I was in this long before coronavirus and it became a habit of got a core group of people who understand this and know that they are my conduit to a world that you know I would. I would not normally be able to have as a caregiver, and so that may be something that you as a caregiver might find helpful if you can get a good Bluetooth headset and do not come with the cord you can get one with the court. Get project but the phone in your shirt pocket and that kind of thing and I felt is better if I just have the Bluetooth I and I can walk away hands-free event to sleep the phone. There and if I get a phone call or something while it hits its autumn and I'm not used to it but it'll say a call from John Butler. I could just answer the answer and or in your case decline.

But no, I just yeah I I am of a certain age where it's people like to write about this where we don't like to. If if if if it's a number I don't know I'm not big on yesterday and it looks this is what separates me from you if it's not right right know it. It's usually spam.

I will take the call and I will talk you and I will. I'll do it in your 20s. I saw fantastic. Oh yeah how do you regard as do I have well got this bicycle and I don't know.

I told him I would think about bikes to the car warranty sit Lisa. Do you have the car you position us. It will not technically it's it's been impounded. But those are not my drugs is not just just kept going and the guy was yet another card. I said well it's all about was that after 2004 yeah is that it's a hearse it's got hundred 25,000 miles but the really easy caregiver.

John and I have a good time.

Merry Christmas we hope you're having a great time to things we can do is caregiver will be right back. Get a great interview at the bottom of the hour. Lots of things to talk about the way 877-655-6755 you will be part of the show 877-6557 55 to trust God when things I'm Gracie Rosenberger, 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident leading 80 surgeries in both legs and became questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me. But over time the questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis.

We purchased ship equipment and supplies and with the help of inmates in a Tennessee prison. We also recycle parts from donated lambs. All of this is to point others to Christ. The source and my help and strength, please visit standing with help.com to learn more and participate in lifting others standing without.com. I'm Gracie.

I am staining with help Peter Rosen still time. I think we can get this to you in time. If you want to copy that to put in a stocking for someone or for yourself. It's a great CD and got to hope the caregiver.com just click on the donate button whatever's on your mind to donate to this work that we're doing this ministry will see a copy for CD is our gift to you and and I think you'll enjoy immensely.

Here's a programming note, you can go also to our podcast for other… If this is the first episode that you've heard and I had a wonderful interview John this week with Kathy Lee Gifford what we talked about 30 minutes and it's it's I know Kathy Lee for some time and when I heard about her new book. It's called it's never too late and I really like the title of it.

I thought you know a lot of people think that caregiver's like this that their life is over that that this is yelled. It's their life is forfeit for the person taking care of their sacrifice in their dreams and aspirations and desires on the altar of caregiving and I I'd I firmly disagree with. I think we can live a life of great meaning and purpose. It may be different.

This certainly will will not meet all of our expectations and and things we think it should be. But that doesn't mean it has to be bad and it can be fulfilling and she talked about a lot of things in this and it was we talked about forgiveness is never too late to extend forgiveness and some people think well they they've already passed away. You can still forgive. Forgiveness is is for your benefit as well as it's taking your hands off of someone else's throat, and I was that it know I just week we talk about this an awful lot in this really fundamentally changed how I thought about forgiveness when we started doing this years and years ago because well growing up W and on perception that right here and there were just awful he walked out by the yeah exactly like the idea that I can put the emphasis on this more on the individual doing the forgiving these days like it really for me it the act is is way more about your releasing yourself from this burden of of rage or of of of of blame or whatever that is about even telling the other person that there forgiving you know that you have to you can forgive them without them asking you know I look at Jesus on the cross. He said father forgive them for they don't know what they're doing to me for gave the without you. We let one person describe this if this resonates with you is basically when you when you are walking and unforgiving. You're carrying around a bag of bricks and think it's heavy. It hurts, it hurts you put it down. Let it go.

It doesn't matter if you're guilty or the one who feels that someone else's guilty guilt is still being experienced by both of you in some way. And guilt is, like a sack of bricks. Now sometimes you just got a set that down. It doesn't mean that it doesn't matter.

The wounds matter. They really do. It just means that you're not to make yourself judge, jury and executioner exactly you know all this hard job. It is just no interest.

You can walk away and it's is just it is just a is just a different way of looking at it. Instead of saying well I forgive you and forget it it it it doesn't matter yeah does matter in mass selection under the release this to God and let him deal with it and not me because better equipped to do this and and so and so that's that's something I just felt like in this particular this time year. This is a good time here to take some inventory will talk about that next week on the show as well. But these are these are things that that the Delete I talked about in our interview and I would recommend you getting in Sharon because she had to walk through some of some public things of forgiveness with with Frank. She talks better on the show and and now I've had to go through my own journey with the sort of things on the receiving end of forgiveness and so you know this is an important part of our growth in our journeys.

Caregiver said the coldest is to not live incident free. Okay, that's it only has to go whole with the goal is to is to live to to deal with it as it comes in and deal with it straight up as best as we can and and and and make amends quickly when we have to. But, but understand that we we don't have to be the police for everything. We don't have to make everything right to something Sanchez could be made right and forget and I look at these. I hate to say this help be temperate when it when it comes out John because you're good for this but sometimes when there are such horrifically violent crimes in the family like the next day the families that we forgive them that kind of stuff and I'm thinking we really plumbing that you know and I think forgiveness if we need to give it the respect of the trauma. The respect that it deserves and and. On that to somehow just seems to me that we we tend to quickly rush into that without just letting him breathe for minute and recognize the magnitude of the wound and then maybe we usually do not hesitate a whole show. One time on the work thinking were we still were or or or don't know. Sorry. I'm sorry the word sorry you had how to apologize without saying sorry right actions necessary thing with forgiveness. Maybe we can learn to use to forgive without saying the word, forgive right okay yeah I like we going with this because like it in the scenario that you gave working out this horrific crime and the family says we forgive you a little bit of that is coming. It's an artificial situation because they're in this public broadcast sort of situation where they now it's a little bit performative by its very nature you can't separate them from that because what they say in their in their in our hearts and minds among our homes.

Probably something a little bit different bites.I feel like they're just there there promoting the idea of of being a decent person even in the midst of some some terrible stuff that I think that yeah I do and and and I respect as well. That being said, there still not doing the thing that you mentioned, which is really important that baguettes lost the idea of of sitting with the trauma and working through it in a way because like the day after. You're probably still just numb as all get out about you.

Nothing like that and yeah and in maybe we can you know that something you know will spend more time on this because this is been a recurring theme. One of the things we do on the show was now spent a lot of time caregiving talking about caregiving task, but really dealing with writing inside out. Once your heart is in a little bit more stable and calmer place in your wallet, your relationships, your job, your health, your everything has a fair shot, but if your heart is a train wreck and is filled with resentment or fear or despair is mighty hard to make decisions another. You know that's that's kind of our thought. These are some things to give yourself this year and will be right back. We got to go to break. This is hopefully caregiver.com eight 776-5567 dispute. Rosenberger never helped somebody walk for the first time I've had that privilege many times through our organization. Standing with hope when my wife Gracie gave up both of her legs follow this horrible Rick that she had as a teenager and she tried to save them for years and if it just wouldn't work out. And finally she relinquished him and that while this is that I'm not heavy legs anymore. What can God do with that and then she had this vision for using prosthetic limbs as a means of sharing the gospel to put legs on her fellow amputees and that's what we been doing now since 2005 was standing with hope. We work in the West African country of Ghana and you can be a part of that through supplies through supporting team members through supporting the work that we're doing over there, you can designate a limb.

There's all kinds of ways that you can be a part of giving the gift that keeps on walking and standing with hope.com would you take a moment ago understanding with hope.com and see how you can give they go walking and leaping and praising God. You could be a part of that@standingwithhope.com as a caregiver.

Think about all the legal documents you need power of attorney will, living wills, and so many more than about such things as disputes about medical bills. What if instead of shelling out hefty fees for a few days of legal help paid a monthly membership and got a law firm for life while we are taking legal representation and making some revisions in the form of accessible, affordable, full-service coverage. Finally, you can live life know you have a lawyer in your back pocket who at the same time is an empty it's called legal shield and its practical, affordable and a must for the family caregiver visit caregiver legal.com that's caregiver legal.com. Isn't it about time someone started advocating for you www.dotcaregiverlegal.com on independent associate. Have you ever struggled to trust God when lousy things happen to you. I'm Gracie Rosenberger, 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident leading 80 surgeries in both legs and became questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me. But over time the questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing without more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis. We purchased ship equipment and supplies and with the help of inmates in Tennessee prison.

We also recycle parts from donated lands. All this is to point others to Christ. The source of my help and strength these visits standing with help.com to learn more and participate in lifting others that standing without.com. I'm Gracie. I am staining without anything that is done I love Christmas. This is on the engineers for his keyboard in the studio is quick question know you get the run through borders and that's actually coming to the board. Okay okay okay sounds like it's coming to the board while I was a little believer that was the keyboard or reverb on the keyboard and that I love doing that. I love having the ability to play little bit. I love Christmas music play this morning at church. I did the music church out here we go. And old Jon.

I was so excited I did this really tiny cabin. While worth level health largely to do it outside the gates, where is old homestead cabinets on the famous property at here that were limited temporarily to figure out what's her next.

As we build or buy whatever and I have a beautiful grand piano that was a family heirloom from from Gracie's aunt and we can't have it in our We still have the room so I serve as music ministers. This little church down here in the Valley and so this Rocky piano and and I and it sounds just lovely down there and I got it all nice and cover it, but I had it tuned yesterday pretty regularly just simply because it gets the weather changes so much. We had the power went out for about 20 hours down the valley with the fact his whole valley a while back you get really cold and some of the strings we have are new and those strings get new attitude and so I was sit there this morning there was just mean branding tune piano, which I love the way. There's something about that and I'm on the well tempered stoneware yes indeed I just watched Buck by the way, before I can but it's a that's okay about with the untracked baby I'm there with you but I said started playing Christmas music and and and I love that and I are throwing cords that are not this I get thrown out of love churches for some escorts glow so you know that's what Angels we have heard of will is like those are not syllables does Gloria have but but I love playing those those of one from here is just love throwing an extra cords that you not normally hearing and I had a buddy of mine used his wonderful player. We were when we were national music school together and he was plated a pretty good size church in Nashville and he was throwing a lot of those major seven cords and things like that.

And the pastor pulled him this back in the 80s. The pastor pulled back his office after church and just reamed them out for playing those barroom cords and it really really hurt his heart to house like yeah and don't tell me a major seven is not a sanctified court because it is yeah and I'll think about that play a flat non-cord. Let's talk to David Wright and I don't know what you know what he was playing on that thing. But you know it just Martin Luther said that next to the word of God. Music is the most important thing elevates the soul and I a you know I love the music of the season right now. I love playing just anything in and this Christmas and when people asked for request for me to play stuff love to do it. So it is just a treat and then bonus upon bonus. I could hear Gracie think that's even better area go and she doesn't.

She does aversive Mary did you know that should rest break your heart. Just break your heart and it is so beautiful and so we always have a white Christmas. Out here, and what will she she has me happy birthday before, and Shirley are you are you into astronomy at all only absolutely I am. I still have my telescope from when I was a kid. It was a birthday present for my uncle Steve when I was about seven or so. It doesn't work anymore but II love astronomy absolutely.

You know it's good having kids reformulate Michelle or I will let you know that I don't know what's happening next week. Don't you well were right in the middle of the Jupiter Saturn conversions yeah so yeah yeah just hoping we have a clear night because out here with it are in it if you got to my Facebook page and put it on hope the kegger's Facebook page to see the view I had this morning from our bedroom window. We have a picture window and and we have a 30 mile view on it from a veteran with a clear day you could see literally 30 miles it. It's just gorgeous and I saw the sun was more but it might on a clear night.

I just lay in bed and just. It is like is like sleeping in a planetarium so I'm really strange for those of you who have benefited your entire life being out in a place where there is very little light pollution like Montana. It is aimed at big sky country now for a recent well, but I'm hoping I'm I don't know what the weather is good to be like when that when Saturn in June or Jupiter alignment has been this way since like 1200 something you hunting here is it's this date.

They appear as one singular object and and bright in the sky anyway. People don't realize how bright like marches all these I could sit on a clear night here. I could see Morris.

You could see the red it literally had planet absolutely not with the telescope. No yeah that's that's about the one thing I can see Mars and Venus are about the one or two things I can see besides the mood may be vague or something and I'm not like in the middle of the city, but I can still see it and it was right near the moon for a couple months this year was really really pretty. Just gorgeous… Yeah, it if you're out in the an area where there's not a lot of light pollution. I hope you get to see this I'm I'm hoping that the weather be clear that we will have overcast gaskets. It is their time's John when I walk outside at night and it catches my breath.

The star something I feel like I touch them and and we were a long ways away from the street. It is that it is a beautiful place a Peter that the greater gift to give yourself it is.

I just wish I knew more about astronomy like you do, you can download will get whatever I can about what we have but you kids bring cost… So will you. Do we rehearse this but now I look at the consolations. I can see that you owe seen the Milky Way here. All John you gotta come out here just get on work that you you are probably going to get to see some northern lights some point there are times there are times you will listen. We digressed from caregiving, but I hope at least light. Your heart is something you were caregivers we live life. We don't just have to live in the zone of caregiving all the time. We are full human beings who can laugh cut up. Look at the stars and and play the piano and wish each other Merry Christmas and sing about joy and love of God when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds are hands of me then sings my soul.

That's the whole point of pay. We gotta go.

John is always your delight. Merry Christmas to you next week. This Peter Rosenberg. Hopefully, caregivers.come
