Policy matters and engaging in weekly radio show and podcast produced by the family policy hi this is John Rustin, presidency, family, and were grateful to have you with us for this week's program is our prayer that you will be informed, encouraged and inspired by what you hear on family policy matters and that you will for better equipped to be a voice of persuasion for family values in your community, state and nation, and now here's our house to family policy matters Tracy to veterans. Thanks for joining us this week for family policy matters. What would a post-Roe America look like that was the question on the minds of tens of thousands of Americans who brave the winter cold recently to march on behalf of America's smallest citizens, the unborn, but this year's March for life in Washington DC was historic because for the first time ever, the sitting president of the United States attended in person. Kristin Hawkins played a key role in events surrounding the March this year. She is president of students for life of America, the nation's largest pro-life organization and has trained more than 55,000 students nationwide will students for life was a sponsor of this year's national pro-life Summit designed to quote bring the generations together under one banner, and which hosted a variety of sessions on the theme history maker, casting a vision for a post-Roe America Kristin joins us today on family policy matters to discuss what that would look like Kristin Hawkins. Welcome to family policy matters.

Thank you for having me today. Let's start with the headlines.

What was the impact of having the sitting president of the United States attend the March for life in person this year for the first time ever think there are several major impact that we saw wind allowing the project. It always been an issue for getting the mainstream press who doesn't really want to cover our issue of abortion.

Actually, the March for life in a largely unreported like the fact that this is the March life of the world's largest annual social mobilization.

It turned out, more people in any cause in history of the world ever hundreds of thousands of people yet make it largely zero coverage. I think the wine having the present. There was this largely old for us to get our message across in having people talk about abortion which we know a time abortion… Media helped change his mind because truth is ultimately our side it showed just how far the pro-life movement has become adorably armament challenges of getting politicians getting political leaders on both the left and right to paid issue abortion more than just something they talk about electioneering not engage on not take action on the rest of the year and I think it showed just how important abortion ending abortion is to the president to the message and the fact that they made it a priority to be there so you a lot about the overturning of hourly wage, and people seem to think that we are closer than ever. But of course we know that even if Rosie Wade is overturned, the battle is far from over. So you of course know very well that the pro-life movement has to address many fronts. We have federal laws state laws, local cultures, even individuals attitude. So let's start at the top that what is good news for the pro-life movement at the federal level. We have appointed pro-life anyway. Now pro-life Supreme Court justices agreement Supreme Court week after week that pro-life majority. The court, I think we need more efficiently talk about ensuring that concordances have the courage to do what they need to do, which is reverse roses. I think we did a more huge and you got just is not only thing on the Supreme Court. But in the lower District Court.

I think there's like 100 over hundred and 13 District Court judges Evan approved 43 US Court of Appeals judges and neither all falling present trumps initial campaign promise back in 2016 to point only pro-life Supreme Court justices going to be. I think when we look back in the history books and looking at present counts tenure. What he did the movement the judges to be the number one thing we look at because this is going to have an impact for a decade. Present concentrations allow the state to go ahead and defund Planned Parenthood of title X family funding that we've stopped overseas taxpayer abortion so you are no longer supporting our organizations overseas that are promoting or committing abortion required health insurance companies to disclose their health insurance plans through the Obama care exchanges cover abortion to that would actually wanted things that most Americans that realize that Obama care path. They were told they were even allowed to disclose if there your health insurance planet you had four through Obama care what funding abortion. You have strong pro-life appointment to good physician Depositions personnel is policy in Washington DC and the president has upheld those promises also on the federal level. I knew students for life of America has been closely following the equal rights amendment that we've seen that come back into the national conversation recently. What does the ERA have to do with abortion here has everything abortion had a nice sounding name equal rights to everyone for equal rights only. Actually what we are for the public, not correctly, we fed pro-lifers out.

We believe that the moment of conception. You are equal to your age or size or location or your level detected speak. You are equal to me because we are both members of the same species were both human being that we actually make equal right argument. Everything college and high school campuses, equal rights amendment to the Trojan horse, or abortion.

So we noted I can redo the abatements in the abortion industry leaders. But I think the best way to look at his past state Eurasia New Mexico Connecticut state.

In the state Constitution their faith up in court.

After the passage of the state.

ERA held that the state must allow proportions in all nine months of pregnancy, for whatever reason and taxpayer-funded because it was unfair that women can get pregnant and men can't get pregnant and therefore making women equal to men. The idle lobby that you have to pay you dollars to pay for abortion this is what this whole fight has been about the abortion industry. Planned Parenthood, the political left is very afraid that Grover would follow that road they'll be reversed or talk about the state they're looking at ways of looking at places they can engage to force taxpayers to pay for abortion to ensure and enshrine abortion to our Constitution, but don't be fooled, ERA everything related to abortion while okay so let's move to the state level you mentioned states and I know the general and well intertwined quite a bit, but there has been an increasing polarization among the states with many states passing strong pro-life laws aimed at protecting the dignity and rights of the unborn in providing help to pregnant mothers. While several other states have moved in the opposite direction lifting restrictions on abortion, even to the moment of birth.

In some cases, so what you make of all of this very clear to" issue of abortion hadn't really been worked out by the voters hours trying to say that I think what I talked about earlier about the abortion lacked those who advocate for abortion. They're terrified that Rose going to fall but were seen at a state level. So New York to California, Illinois, they're rushing to firm up abortion all nine months of pregnancy. For whatever reason taxpayer-funded because they have a post-Roe V Wade America timeline thinking about what we need to do in our state to make sure we allow women to have it.

Many abortion as possible and that's why we've been talking to her to pro-lifers about they look like they're already doing preparing for post-Roe America in their state.

This is what we need to be doing as well in the development of our thinking passing more abortion restrictions. Laws of making abortion unthinkable and illegal as you all know this is a two-pronged goal in our vision estate isn't simply to make abortion illegal, it also to make it unthinkable not just passing off saying no more abortion is also passing a law that exists women and help women give women the truth no one ever feels like she has to choose between her life and the life of her child. This is why elections matter when you have the state race in the U.S. Senate race. Sorry Ralph, you still have to get out of Christian To get out and vote because the left and how we've been success I mean if you look at it like where we had the most victories in the pro-life movement recent years. In recent decades in state capitals protecting lifesaving baby feeding mothers lied and told the left and so now they're going back in there for focusing on what she had better go back and focus in state capitals because they realized the majority state legislatures are pro-life there controlled by Republicans and to be considered for Christian people of faith to know what you've been engaged in state-level politics. I think when we look in the 24 hour news media. We watch Fox's or whatever watching only focus on Washington DC. Washington is the epicenter power, but it state capital.

When Roe is reversed when the decision abortion comes back each and every state going to be like. I've been working for with student try for the building with our 1200 S. 1300 chapters in all the student development focuses on Washington DC.

The movement rose or versatile goes the 50 states. We will be ready to execute 50 final payment style to make abortion illegal.

Some battles will win instantly and he really long term state like California, Illinois, New York but even the state that moves make abortion illegal immediately. More work to do a lot of work to do throughout the application the other night.

I hope people across North Carolina are hearing you loud and clear. Because as a person that works in public policy, behind the scenes here in North Carolina I've seen these programming radical pro-abortion bills get introduced, and because we have pro-life people in leadership to get squashed immediately. They don't even see the light of day. But they're waiting there, waiting for the opportunity to get a hearing and so you're right, you know, we've really got to be vigilant here on the state level and continue to elect pro-life people, or we could be just like Virginia, North Carolina, and they are coming for you. North Carolina made it very clear.

You can read their strategy document North Carolina. It always listed until just don't think it's a stop in Virginia Beach by Peter legislation California for three years called at 324 is signed into law in October this one to affect last month and now transforms every single state University in California to an abortion.

But every state campus health center now must dispense RU-486. The abortion pill on campus. Terrible terrible bill.

Not only are more babies and I women died on the campuses of the toilet bowl abortion.

It's a horrific abortion procedure and what we saw when they were very clear and open about during the entire three-year battle. This is a test case. This is our test case. Guess what now I've got legislation, New York and Massachusetts and Illinois all thing that killed so there you start Wednesday and moved to the North Carolinians need to be ready great. We are about out of time. Do you want to give us some parting words of encouragement. As far as what we need to be doing to change hearts and minds, or how we can prepare for this post-Roe world. Sure I would encourage you because I think people say I want to be involved. Where can I be about. I am the way, me about every single person can be involved in the development of your experience, your skill set your gifts your fears.

You can be about the place you because it just political just praying about abortion silly or just working on a college campus or working at different places for you to plug into the gate actually was just thinking I have a website we just put together with a bunch of other national public organizations month called B history maker.work would encourage you if you feel convicted to serve in the pulpit but you don't really know where you why did you start going to be a history maker or literally a second process put in your email, and select the category where you want to get involved with myself five different key wages, development, and will actually send you action A toolkit for how the plug-in state, local, and federally into the pro-life movement. Great.

So that's easy to be a history maker.G Kristin Hawkins, president of students for life of America. Thank you so much for joining us today on family policy matters. We hope you enjoyed the program completed to begin next week to listen to the show will log into one more about into family encourage and inspire families across the water or website it into family don't want.
