R751 The Teen Commandments

Some are going to be given over to unbelievable apathy someone going to be angry we could go on and on. God has given to us what God wants us to know and I wish that I could stand here today and I could share with you the things that are on my heart but in reality outside of my own personal experience in a godly wisdom really what I have to say is null and void when it comes to the preciousness of the word of God. God is truth.

The Bible says that we need to hide these things in our hearts. So this morning I want to share with you the team, come on. I want to talk to you from God's word in Exodus chapter 20, as we remind ourselves that God appeared to Moses and gave to him what ever Dinky in the United States of America. We believe, is no longer valid in our courtroom. We believe that these compartments are perhaps nothing more than just simply ice active suggestions. Perhaps they ought to be relegated to a few religious fanatics in America and around the world. Put God first. You can find it right there in Exodus chapter 20 in verse three. The Bible says you shall have no other gods before me. Put God first. I wonder what you suppose God meant by that. When he spoke throughout the ages to all people to put their faith and trust in him when he made an announcement to his creation.

All those above. In the heavens, and all those below upon this earth to remember. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. I'm going to submit to you today that it means that we must put God first in our faith. We must put God first in our finances.

We must put God first in our friendships. By the way young people. Did you know that God is your friend.

I want you to just think about your base frame might be your wife, your husband is Sonia Dalton the person that you like to hang around with that you've grown up with. Just think about the things that you do how you talk to get you communicate to share things you have a lot of fun. That's the way God wants us to relate to him. God wants to be off frame. There's no greater friend. He wants us to put him first in our friendship put him first in favor that he occupies number one spot in number one attention. What does it mean to put God first. Well it's the old classic principles of Christian discipleship. When God said, thou shalt have no other gods before me. You meant they can be no rivalry as far as God is concerned. And God said, put me first what he was trying to tell us is that he will accept no refusal. He will not be turned down and he most definitely will not be denied. It means they can be no resignation young people you have grown up in a precious community and wonderful Christian homes. When I hear the testimony of Jared Skinner and I look out an icy Anna Mathis. You could go on down the road and I think about your parents and your heritage in your church, the community that you've grown up in God's word says that as far as God is concerned there is no resignation there is most definitively no retreat. God says you must never retreat as far as I'm concerned, team commandment level I. Put God first. Number two worship God alone.

Look at verse four and five, God said, you shall not make for yourself an idol. Now watch this in the form of what what would God send to every man, woman, boy and girl upon the face of the earth. You shall not make any graven image you shall not make an idol in the form of anything of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down and worship them, you might say to me will wait a minute, pasta, what do we make idols if I was to look back upon my life I've had so many idols that have brought discredit to the Lord Jesus Christ.

It's a constant battle I can make an idol of my home. I love my home. I can make an idol of my children I love my children, my wife, I can make idols out of my family. I can make an idol out of fashion. The way that I look my peers.

I can make an idol out of sport and athletics. I love sport love God I love anything that pertains to athletics I can make an idol out of my favorite bold team. My favorite basketball team.

God tells us this, he says worship God alone. Now what does this mean if we ought to worship God alone. It means two things.

If we understand the text.

It means number one that I will never bow down to anything or anyone but God.

God issued this decree from heaven.

He was setting us free at 40 was doing.

He was saying and one as one who trusts in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

My commitment is that I'm never going to bow down to anything or anyone but God riding hand-in-hand with that I will never be bound by anything or anyone but God and their runs juxtaposed together, these two inextricably intertwined fundamental Christian principles. Do not allow the name of God to come out of your mouth in any expression under any circumstance at any time unless you are worshiping him as the King of Kings and as the Lord of lords. Now watch their and some of you sitting here watching me. You know exactly what I'm talking about and some of you are blaspheming to you want me to say to you today.

Listen, you want me to write you a prescription for disaster, which hear what God has to say, all right, team commandment number four go to church go to church. I love the site through 11. God's word says remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Then he gives us all kinds of instructions and at the latter part of verse 11.

He says this. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it home. Have you heard someone say everybody is the Lord's day will I have in fact I've said many times myself and friends. I want you to know that that's true. Every day is the Lord's day, but I am also going to submit to you today that God set aside a special time in a special day he blissed no throws. My heart here in our wonderful congregation. Number of businesspeople that I see you travel all around the country, but on Sunday they were in church. You might say what is this mean for graduates guys ladies listen to me you know that statisticians tell us that within three weeks of you getting onto that college campus God is not going to smell you for dust. Statisticians tell us you not gonna darken the door of the church. You might say to me will pasta.

Why go to church to give you a couple of thoughts number one because it keeps you connected. You want to lose connection with God and with God's people in God's word stay out of church number two because it keeps you informed. I don't know about you but I want to be informed. I want to know what gods think I want to know what God has to say to me. Number three. It keeps you accountable accountability a major principle of Christian discipleship number four. It keeps you on number five. It keeps you sensible me tell you when you leave Spartanburg you go to that college campus you going to become part of mob mentality no longer have mom and dad's home to go back to all you going to have the best fun in your life, you become part of the convoy you going to become part of a stampeding herd of elephants not going to tell you when mob scapegoating. I'll tell you exactly what happens. Many about college students lose their sense they go berserk obscene mania college student get pregnant. I've seen many become an alcoholic. Many fall into disrepute.

Many become sorry many file and flunk and lose their grades and destroy their lives because they got caught up in everything you can imagine, God has told us one way just one way by which we can keep ourselves where we need to be in church go to church. I tell you what it will do, it will help you to keep sensible spiritual sense, God will help you to think clearly, team commandment number five and I love this one. Love mom and I love this.

If you look at verse 12 this is what it says honor your father and mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

You know what he said you want to live a long, good life. Here it is. Love your mother and father. You know, by the way, even if your old like me the way you treat your parents in the way you respond to them is going to be the way in which your children will grow up and respond to you you distro parents by gonna diss you you understand me, you might say pasta will that doesn't have any meaning it's coming. That's just too bad you got me questions, take a hike because I want to say this to you that God is telling us what we need to do the capital, where you go. Don't just become like a dead fish and float down the stream you're going into a mob mentality and some of you here today. What you going to get out of that college campus and on time you that I got a look at you like you've lost something because you not willing to floor to block everybody you be careful what you wish. Number three. Be careful what you watch. Number four will be careful who you hang out with. Be careful about the company you keep. I submit to you today my dear friends you hang around with bad company. You become bad company I'm speaking from personal experience I went through terribly troubled times as he as a teenager you looking at a man did things in my life that caused great discredit to the Lord at times to my mother and father to the witness of God and I'm going to tell you that so much of that was involved in some of the company are kept. Not young people beat Around with and I don't care who say this. So I just become a part of the sorority and just become a part of this fraternity watch. Careful of people who tell you it's all right to drink Catholic people close into the women suggest going have a good time you run your student once.

Just do governance sought out there and do whatever you want. I don't if you've ever heard. Parents are say well they'll come around one day and lots of them.

You don't come around. Don't allow Satan to rob, or Satan, young people wants to rob wants to steal it from wants to just take it away. Don't don't become one of those adults who 20 years from now, but the mark subsuming all over the you've smoked yourself to death and drink yourself to death and you sold your body to everybody and now you're trying to make it and you're wondering why everything's going wrong, you can never get it right and and they said darkness in your face and you I want you to grow up and have your life and your husband and sons and daughters.

I want you to be able to celebrate the graduation of the marriage of your children if you listen to what God sees team commandment number nine number eight.
