David had reasons not to be in that battle had been an irritant to David many, but he was still there for the Amazon is a look at Dave and say oh you look at you now, Mr. you just get what's coming to you buddy. How many times we give people advice like that when I got a spear poking life is just taken this quest and also their at that point we were like, you know what you did wrong, don't you, that's not what they need. Welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today. Pastor David's teaching through second Samuel chapter 21 and we have as our guest of the studio, one of David McGee's associate pastors welcome DA hey Bob, we want to take just a minute to pray for some cities in our listening audience in California. We have Bellevue, Sonora, blights, Borrego Springs, Bernie, Byron and Kelly Ente God, we thank you for the cities and we pray that many will tune in today we pray. If there is some were sick and going through some battles that you please heal them.

Father God. We pray that many would put their trust in you today for the eternal salvation. We pray that the cities would get excited about following you and we pray for these churches and pastors that they would fill out Lord that they would apply your word in their hearts that many others will be impacted in the cities that teaching in Jesus name, amen.

Thank you DA appreciate your prayers for our listeners as Pastor David teaches through this chapter rigorously a lot of battles and suffering that goes on and yet even in those things there lifeless as we can take out the very encouraging to us DA can you share some of that with us. God's word speaks to every area of our life, including to be there for one another when were going to battles. What are some of the ways that we can be there for our friends and family and neighbors and other believers in their battles, Bob. It could be cooking a meal for someone and taking over their house, we wonder how can I be a blessing to someone when they're going to a battle just to something practical, and God will use that practical gift and turn it into a spiritual blessing for your brother, friend, that sounds awesome. So let's listen as David McGee finishes teaching verse by verse through second Samuel chapter 21 were looking at the life of David were beginning really to wrap the life of day.

We got a few chapters left with David been through a lot of things learned a lot of things as we get into chapter 21. We point out something that's not obvious, but these last few chapters are. They don't necessarily follow the timeline of the rest of the book up till now. Second Samuel first Samuel has been in frequent okay meaning unit one event after another in the reporting just as they happen when we get to chapter 21 that changes. It's almost like there's kind of a appendix. If you will, that the author wanted to include a few more events and put them on the end of second Samuel Celeste understand that because if you don't understand that you look at this ego. While this is happening right after this, actually the first 14 verses go somewhat back into the early part of the reign of David and 15 through 22 go a little bit later into the to the reign of David to give you that background, second Samuel chapter 21 says now there was a famine in the days of David for three years. Year after year. And David inquired of the Lord and the Lord answered, it is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house because he killed the Gibeonites so the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them not to give me a nights were not of the children of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites, the children of Israel had sworn protection to them. The Saul had sought the kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah. Therefore David said to the Gibeonites. What shall I do for you and with what shall I make atonement that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord to give me and I said to him, we will have no silver or gold from Saul from his house, nor shall you kill any man in his will for us sociable, whatever you say.

I will do for you, then answer the key is for the man who consumed us and plotted against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the territories of Israel. Let seven men of his descendents to be delivered to us and we will hang them before the Lord and give me of Saul in the Lord shows and the king said I will give them seven but the king spared for Russia, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul because of the Lord's oath that was between them.

Between David and Jonathan, the son of Saul, so we remember that this chapter encapsulates so many different things from preceding chapters of an preceding book was the son of Jonathan.

Jonathan was the son of Saul, David made a pact with Jonathan he would look after him in his house forever after Jonathan was killed. David inquired if there was anybody left of the house. So I found the chef and during a time so money and ran with membership they dropped and he was laying and he had a found a place of the at the table of David for the rest of his life. David looked after verse eight, so the king took our money in the figure shut the two sons of wrist father daughter a lot and she bought us all the five sons of McCall, the daughter of Saul who she brought up for a drill, the son of Martha Leah may have now mentioned something McCall didn't have any children.

If you remember when when David was bringing arc in Jerusalem when he was dancing and he was worshiping God and his wife McCall set up there and sit on Kimball even bears yourself and try to review David and then were told in that half a second time jump six or 20 faces. Therefore McCall, the daughter of had no children to the day of her death.

These children were probably the children of Mariah Rob was the daughter of Saul that Saul had promised to David when he killed all the Philistines and install then carry through with his promise. Verse nine and he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites and they hang them on the hill before the Lord. So they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest in the first days the beginning of the barley harvest the same grizzly heartless. Remember, some we don't even have half a story we don't know what happened was Saul. We don't know what Saul was doing when he chased the Gibeonites.

We don't know what all actions he took when he was, to wipe them out and we can know that Saul did not inquire of the Lord before he did this with the giving because got upset about it. Saul had inquired of the Lord God is no don't do that.

Joshua made a treaty with these people leave them alone. Saul didn't inquire of the Lord.

He went and did what he wanted to do.

And years later, his relatives are so so we don't have the whole story. Their stewards we get confusion.

One is discernment and oneness judgment. Discernment is looking at something going Chi I think that God I think that's not of God. The Bible encourages us in the sermon.

The Bible discourages us in judgment and judgment.

We look at people go absolutely. God would never have anything to do with that person. That's absolutely not. God, they're never going to get say there's just no hope in Jesus for them, etc. etc. that's a dangerous place because we don't have all the information we don't have all information, who has all information God's so who's the appropriate one to judge God is an inappropriate one to judge. We are because we don't have all the information. How many times have you heard something or read something or somebody told you something and you arrived to this snap decision and judgment about what the situation was and what the person was going in that whole thing and then later he found out you were wrong so my giving you misinformation so I give you faulty information so I just left something out. And yet we made this decision in this vacuum next life was never make rash judgments about anything or especially any one never make rash judgments about anything or especially anyone ever scenarios for the daughter of a took sack cloth and spread it for herself on the rock. From the beginning of harvest into the late minds, and she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beast of the field by night and David was told what wrist father daughter Marriott the concubine of solid and David went to the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jacob S. Killian, who had stolen them from the streets of Betsy with the Philistines and hung them up after the Philistines, it struck down Saul and Gilboa's against constant pieces in Saul, one of his first actions when he became king was go to the rescue of the men of Jacob S. Galea. These men when Saul had been killed by the Philistines. They took him in and they displayed Saul and his sons Betsy on that Xian is still there, we visited whenever we take trips to Israel. This is the place we know it's a place.

This is the place were Saul and his sons were displayed so the men of Davis Killian Whitten Saul and his son brought them in and buried them to honor them because he had come to the rescue. Verse 13 so he brought up the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from their when they gather the bones of those who've been hanging they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin and zilla in the tomb of Kisha's father, so they performed all that the king commanded and after that got heated air for the land wow really so interested in the bones well into this day Jewish people very interested in the bones of the dead back there was a spa that was in Syria when Syrians found out that this guy was in his early spa they killed very graphically very publicly the nation of Israel came out and offered 200 prisoners for the bones of this one individual and and they wouldn't take the deal.

Why did they want the bones from individual because it is a belief in Judaism as far as the resurrection that they want all the bones and they will all the bones together so that the time of the resurrection the person as a whole complete person. Not I know you're probably thinkable of God's big God.

God created you can't create the new bones in the resurrection I would say yes. I'm just telling you what. And then there's another phrase that you come across a lot playing with your ancestors or sleeping with your ancestors. He slept with his father's resort to think that's a very literal thing because as the people would die they would after season they would take the bones and they would put them in what's called an ossuary little box will tomb box and then they would gather the bones and they would place the bones with the other family member talks about laying with your father's. It literally means your bones would be placed with the bones of family. This habit of never dealing with the sin Saul would not follow God in them. When we do, he would make excuse after excuse that she is almost comical in his exchanges with Samuel.

Cassandra comes that you know God told you to do this. Why did you do this may have that exchange for same. It was a sick think is hanging out did you kill everybody in white male.

I got it all afternoon and Sandra goes. Why do I hear animal cells in my ears and sauces. We save the past to sacrifice for the low and Sandra said you got told you what when you mess up. Tell God about your mess up. Tell God about your sin, deal with it right then and there, because if you don't friend it could be years later, your deal with it. It could even be your descendent that have to do with your sent all because you wouldn't go according to first John chapter 178 910 when when were told you we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Little word there is.

If you're willing to confectioners. What's a flipside if you're not willing to confess your sin.

God will not forgive you.

God will not cleanse you from Owen right. That's why first John talks about the fact that you say you don't have anything your life real real seeker friendly. Now here's Pastor David as he continues showing verse by verse, verse 15 when the Philistines were working with Israel, Dave, and the servants with him went down and fought against the Philistines and David grew faint then-ish but who was one of the sons of the giant the weight of his bronze fear was 300 shekels, who was bearing a new sword thought he could kill David without a shot as soon as I came to his aid and struck the Philistine and killed. Then the men of David Swart and San you shall go out no more with us.

The battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel.

Now this could have been verse 15, it could've been around the time the second sample chapter 5 when their conquering their continuing to conquer Jerusalem is obviously after David had killed life is probably in the Sammy's older he still got that warrior spirit. Susie hears her about a long he's like I'm there so he's in the midst of this battle and this big guy son of the giant son of Goliath. It sounds like from from the account that that this guy had David that the right and have a shy his men with David, long time comes to the rescue of David again and wish I had been with David for a long time going going way back. For Samuel, chapter 26 verse six says. Then David answered and said to them, Ahimelech, the Hittite and to have a shy, the son of Soraya Brother Joe Hudson who will go down with me to Solomon And Abhishek that I will do that with men with David for a long time he's done something that they been like they did approve of, but they're still friends. I think there we got a little reminder because we think we can be friends with someone, as long as we agree about everything. Never have a disagreement for some people that's what they think friendship is supposed to be if that's your perception of friendship. You never have any friends and I know people like this. I know people that the moment they have of this agreement. They cut off that person that they have the relationship with friend when you have a disagreement. It's okay maintain the relationship because some of us have written off friend simply because we had a disagreement and we been ripped off. We've lost out on that relationship simply because there was a disagreement in this example, what if David had written them a shy and wish I would've been there that day. David would've died, but he maintained a relationship even though there was these disagreement energies in this essay you know when David time has passed for you to be on the front line, you're the king we need you as king near the light of Israel. Your what you done in the things that you're doing are pertinent to the well-being of the nation of Israel, and you no longer should be on the frontlines of the foot, so there comes a time. I guess in everybody's life when it has a place in the battle.

There's a time when you should be on the frontlines of the sometimes you're going through something in life, in any distinction, frontlines you should maybe be praying for the battle line that's appropriate we think David was glad. I wish I was there at the document to his David as he is looking down the sword of the Spirit thinking I'm we've all been in the position of David. Maybe not literally but we've been kind of at there in the bar rope emotionally or were going through something and we just feel like I'm in this is it. And in those times, aren't you grateful and glad that I shushes some ask a question from if you desire in those times that somebody like Abba shushes a should we also desire to be Abba Shasha. People life lesson here is we should be there for one another in our battles. David had reasons not to be in the battle to get shot been an irritant to David many, but he was still there for Dave shy in that moment is a look at Dave and say oh yeah, look at you now Mr. King thought you were six Spanish don't tell me how to live and what do you just getting what's coming to you buddy. How many times are we giving people advice like that when I got a spear poking at the life is just taken this quest and all of a sudden there at that point were like you know what you did wrong, don't you, that's not what they needed that. That's not the ministry that they needed interesting email and had photos and so the stories stories this farmer was walking past the spa was a ball floating on the pond and eat. He looked at the ball. He thought remember seeing a ball around. But then, he's the ball started moving across the water flow. That's weird here, thought he was seeing some fermented nude simply walk down there and in the ball is moving the other way and this is where Sue went back to his house. He got the snack figurine to get the ball out of marketing just wasn't there when it wasn't the ways you can figure out what was moving the spa when you guys and that any went to scoop up the ball.

There was a largemouth bass that was under the ball and in the fishing gotten his mouth on the ball and couldn't let go and he was swimming around and upon trying to let go of the ball but could and so the farmer was able to pry the ball off of his mouth and put the fish back in.

That's a cool story. What really got me at the end of that email was the caption that said everybody's fighting the battle that you can't. Everybody's fighting a battle you can't you look around this room the night you understand there's people in this room right now that are recovering over the loss of love. People in this room right now that are struggling with a relative that's fine. People in this room that are struggling with addictions. People in this room that are struggling with bitterness and unforgiveness's people in this room, struggling with all sorts of stuff the person that's massaging his fighting battles. You don't know about the person seated in front of you is fighting battles. You don't know about the person seated behind his fighting battles the you don't know. Think about that for a minute. God has given us the power to pray and to encourage one another.

You don't have to know the appropriate asked somebody what the battles are. You can still pray for verse 18 does not happen afterward that there was again a battle with the Philistines of job and civic kind of fish if I killed softly was one of the sons of the giant verse 19. Again there was a war gob of the Philistines were in and then the son of Jared or Jean. The Bethel and Mike killed the brother of Goliath to get type shaft through spear was like a weaver's beam yet again there was a war in Gath where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand, six toes on each foot.

24 and number, and he also was born to the giant verse 21, so we need to find Israel Jonathan son of Jimmy and David's brother killed. These four were born to the giant gas and fell by the hand of David by the hand of the service is interesting interesting because were told when David approached Goliath.

He had five stones and some of the commentaries that are rented. We got five stones case. You know he needed, be prepared in case he missed them so need five cents of a mess. He had other sons when right and and they say so you should always be prepared to make these parallel that's how I had five stones you just read why he had five Goliath had four sons and David went out to battle that Danny said I got one stone for glass and for for his voice in case they decide they will summon me.

David was ready man. I don't think he thought will God is with me. But maybe I need like a machine gunner several hundred rocks. It took five rocks and here's an interesting thing David was a giant killer. He was a warrior, but notice what happened in the life of David. It wasn't enough for David just to be a giant killer.

He had every intention, and it was very deliberate for him to raise up other giant killers. It's not just about you getting in the heaven friend is about how many people you're going to take with you when you go it's not just about you being disciple. It's about how many people is God using you to disciple is not about how many giants you kill in your life's about having people you training to kill giants in their life is not just about you anymore. And as we look at David he raised up other giant killers and let me ask you question what what giants do you have in your life, what is there in your life right now tonight that you think you know what, there's no way there's just no way that I can overcome this or overcome that this is always been to be an obstacle or barricade in my life.

God can do anything God says in the need to faces without me you can do nothing, but with God all things are possible. What giants do you have in your life. God can deliver you from your enemies.

God delivered David from all of his enemies, you think all the David went through with Saul with Goliath with the bear and then with Absalom and I think she would only think the Philistine all God always brought always, God's going to bring you through.

If you know Jesus as your Savior. There's also promise given in Philippians chapter 1 verse six is that what you started and you he will be faithful to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ and June 23. This is now NAM is able to present you faultless before the throne of glory keep you from fall guy can kill your giants as a matter fact, what was the biggest giant everybody's line. I would think it's probably death me when you think of all the things that you potentially fear the thing that you dread the most. The thing that you look forward to the lease that scan interesting when you're talking to people and always think the people hey you have a good day on your everyday above ground is a good day. Think you know what the day they laid me in the ground on behalf of best day of my life. Death is another giant this fall is not something the fear friend of you here tonight you fear death. You really understand the gospel as Jesus gave us this assurance that no one you don't have to fear death while because that enemy has fallen upon goes in the great links and in first Corinthians chapter 15 he says this is for he must reign till he has put all enemies under his feet in the last enemy that will be destroyed is death. Continue on a few verses later for this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible has been on incorruption in this world has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written is swallowed up in victory death, where is your sting will Hades, where is your victory. The sting of death is and strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ and you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven.

You can know right now own Legion.

A short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him. God wants you to pray this prayer so much that he died to give you the opportunity and the ability to ask him to forgive you.

Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now. Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry. Please forgive me of all those things.

Please give me the power to live for you. All of my days in Jesus name, amen friend of you prayed that prayer according to the Bible you've been forgiven you've been born again, so congratulations for you just made the greatest decision that you will ever make.
