Naming Israel your EEC house is getting deeper and deeper and deeper. You don't want to send snowball I still out of prison and jail ministry and always on the ministry. I never ran in the somebody that sent a notice of pay when you want to do in your kit one as a kid I want a girl going through the rough places and we get thrown in prison. That was my goal say that David doesn't stop that adultery and get this, got drunk, but now he goes in the murder and I think in the context of this chapter, I think the murder is if you really and we think of sins as degrees but I think the murder is the more coldly calculated treacherous conspiratorial thing that happened but he would be committing murder committed welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina. Today we have deal with this in studio meal is one of these assisting pastors to help them in his work here at the church and in ministry welcome brother all right Spencer Paulson teachings here in second senior Chapter 11 today were to talk about how CN snowballs when it's left unchecked, confess this will share about teaching about finishing up second Samuel chapter 11 were looking at the life of David things are going well with David know first. He was installing. Now he's come back. He's been installed at first his kingdom and part of Israel now is king over all of Israel and things are going well.

He has reached out to my favorite chef, who was the son of Jonathan. We looked at a couple weeks ago and last week we look at how the ammonites and the Syrians were defeated after a knowing just totally degraded and shame these men of David and these these men in this place and this time ashamed David extend mercy.

Again we see Jesus and that extend mercy in our time ashamed and that leads us into Lebanon, which, sadly, is the thing that people remember and talk about the most in the life of David. We talked about the fact you know that heading in John chapter 8 and when our Bibles. It it it speaks of the adulterous woman in that exchange. When Jesus said he was perfect without sin cast the first and and you know every time we go to that are referred to that we don't call her the adulterous woman we call her the forgiven woman because it's just bizarre to me that Christianity was to be filled with grace and love and forgiveness in our Bibles are Roman, you know, I mean when you if you know Jesus and you go to heaven and you see this one don't queue their daughters room is not about you. She second Samuel chapter 11 verse one again. There's a battle going on right then at that point.

Verse one happened in the spring of the year. At the time when kings go out to battle that David sent Joab and his servants with them and all Israel may destroy the people of Ammon embassies Rob David remained in Jerusalem. Then it happened.

One evening David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king's house up on the roof he saw a woman bathing in the woman was very beautiful to behold the Davidson inquired about the woman and someone said is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of helium, the wife of Uriah the Hittite David sent messengers and took her and she came to him and he lay with her.

She was cleansed from her impurity and she returned to her house now Jewish tradition lets us know something the she was cleansed from her impurity must remember that the Bible speaks of a woman being ceremonially unclean during her menstrual cycle and then after her menstrual cycle.

She was to take a mix are a ritual bath, leading to her cleansing and I think the reason it's included in here. Is it lets us know verse five who the father is in the woman conceived so she sat and told Dave and said I am with child.

She had a website glad 11 and under and the children, but so she had her menstrual cycle was not pregnant was with David and then was pregnant so it's not Uriah's child. It is indeed the child of David now David at this point has done something that he probably never concedes he could do or would he put himself in this position and then he gave over to it now.

The thing that we need to recognize and you know what, nobody in here can be arrogant in regards to this passage because of you sitting here you go on the member will what you say that you never will you place yourself in a dangerous position. Here's one because if you think you could never do something like this place yourself in a position where it could happen because you think it would never happen. You can't, in his wisdom and his mercy puts us a crossroads, often in our life tonight year at a crossroads tonight. You have an opportunity to let go of some things and grab hold of God to turn from those things and turn to verse six. Then David said to Joab send send me Uriah the Hittite enjoyed sent Uriah the David and you. When you Ryan come then David asked Joe how Joab was doing and how the people were doing and how the war prospered to David and he's a good leader is a strong leader you want to know how the battle is going checking up on his leaders that an accountability stay in a house. Joab don't house about. Here's an interesting thing you cannot see what David's doing and in the next few verses, you'll see that David was wanting Uriah to go sleep with Bathsheba, so that when Bathsheba was pregnant. Then everybody would think that it was a the child of Uriah. I will stay were trying to do is try to cover percent, you realize we do that every person who doesn't you mess up, and then your will, was in me. I had it's really not good when I was a little kid. We had this thing in the house called Mr. nobody is bad. I don't know. I was allowed to get away with this, but you know there be like a mess in the floor and I got into my mom goaded us. Mr. nobody did. I don't think she believed me, but somehow now I know what's wrong with him. I was on the cover of my sin and everyone in this life have been put in a position to say what about this old link on why the garden where are you news out there what you know you gave me guy here I mean Adam is blaming God and the woman all in one breath. Unless Pete was okay deal with David Bathsheba. It was consensual.

David didn't rape severe if you're thinking David was the was the dog in this thing. David messed up. But if you sit there thinking Bathsheba was his heart. They both messed up a lot and we think it was the man we think it was a woman new and in the case about money. And guess what it was about you guys to know that darn goal, Levi, Thao, what you just will all you women tend to go that Adam would've been three know if you'd been in the garden unit done saying, but at least guys discussing a little bit but at least he had to be talked into eating the fruit, the servant had to go got released and then he thinks of you remember the big conversation took Adam to get the fruit there will all motorboat thing just a little bit here is the bizarre thing and hear me out thing of trying to cover our sins can actually be a good thing because friend that's what Jesus wants to do for us.

He wants to cover our sin he wants us to come to him with no excuses and confession and say you know I got I did mess up. Please forgive me. Jesus is you know what I'll cover your sins so well they're not there anymore.

I'll throw them into the sea of forgetfulness?

In your attempts in your life to cover your sins. And he always done a really good job. I doubt you've tried to do it sometimes and you just blacked out bus why because you can't cover your sins for. But Jesus can cover better than you ever imagined. Weird that we won't go to Jesus to get him to cover our sins and we try to cover them so ineffectively on her own when Jesus a new economy.

Confess your sins, first John chapter 1 verse I said yes if you confess your sins I'm faithful and just to give you of your sins and cleanse you from all right we don't know and I don't want to cover for Nero cover the family knows that your friends know people around you know you're not covering your sins were well come to God. God will covers or you can continue the futility.

The tragedy of trying to cover your own like David.

See what happens. Verse eight and David said he arrived go down to your house and washer free so Uriah departed from the king's house to get the food from the king followed him go wash your feet is it is kind of a Hebrew Sanford for go spend some time at home. Verse nine but Uriah slept at the door of the Kings house with all the servants of his lord did not go down to his house. This is interesting in and take a really radical departure from a lot of commentaries are out there that say this was extremely noble. There was a thing that when you were in the battle that you want to have sexual relationships with your wife or you're in the midst of the bat so there was something to that. And so it could have been a noble thing Uriah was doing when you stop to consider that David told the king told him to go home and he didn't do at that point you he was in rebellion to the king, pointing out well. Again, I'm not trying to excuse anybody's behavior in this chapter, but to me it seems to indicate that I'm just this is conjecture missed on this out there that perhaps all was not well at the home of Uriah Bathsheba are Uriah would've been like. Also get to go home for Gopal to bring it into was I completely noble on the part of Uriah maybe, but again when David told him to go home. David's king and he's in direct rebellion when they would have stolen to do. I think that we at least need to consider the fact that perhaps there some more going on now how this must David imagine how he felt.

He's at home he's out of the battle is I got in trouble.

Yard probably feels bad because there's about a going on and he's not there and then the soldier comes and sits on my going to enjoy the comforts of home while there's about verse 10. So when they told Davidson. Uriah did not good to his house. Davidson the right did you not come from a journey. Why did you not go down to your house today was kind of in disbelief neuritis in the David Arkin Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents in my Lord Joab, and the servants among northern camp in the open field show that then go to my house to eat and drink and a lot of my wife as you live is your soul lives will not do this again. I understand that sounds noble might be.

Could be there's also another possibility. David did this and I think other people on his staff. Other people that were in his dwelling other people to serve him, knew what was going on and I wonder when Uriah came home. They said member talk to but she does. She was in the Susan David's out really late at night was going on there could be. Then David said he arrived verse 12 we hear today. Also tomorrow I will let you depart so you will Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next, and when David called him.

He ate and drank before many maiden job and the evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house and David gets Uriah driving EEC house is getting deeper and deeper and deeper into what is sin snowballs is what happens is that sin will keep you longer than you ever want to stay in sin will pay you more than you ever want to be paid. I still like prison and jail ministry and all the sums ministry. I never ran in the somebody that you know when I said hey when you want to do when you're a kid one as a kid I want to grow up on shoe to rob places and hopefully get thrown in prison. That was my goal say that so you know it one step at a time so I got here one step at a time is what leads you away from the Lord.

Now here's Pastor David as he continue showing verse by verse, verse 14 in the morning it happened and David wrote a letter Joab and Senate by the hand of Uriah and he wrote a letter sent second Orion the forefront of the hottest battle and retreat from them that he may be struck down and die. Just cold and that is just cold and you look at David given to the Lord and look what he's doing and for all of us and I don't get on a pedestal.

Bring all my brothers you know what David still except by the grace of God there goes you step-by-step advice that she because here's the thing David doesn't stop at adultery and get this, got drunk, but now he goes in the murder and I think in the context of this chapter, I think the murder is if you will you we think of sins as degrees but I think the murder is the more coldly calculated treacherous conspiratorial thing that happens but he would be committing murder if he had committed a life lesson. Your sin snowballs or grows bigger unchecked or unconfessed sin snowballs or grows bigger unchecked or unconfessed tonight. God has given us a chance. My senior year in adultery.

Maybe some of you are God has given you a chance. Maybe there's something maybe your interest is getting worked in a way that should be made to drugs and alcohol.

Or maybe your slandering your brothers and sisters in Christ. There's something you need to let go and you have a chance tonight to let go of it articling closer to the one step at a time. Verse 16. So was module of the siege, the city that he assigned Uriah to place where he knew there were valiant men and the men of the city came out and followed Joab and some of the people of the servants of David fell in Uriah the Hittite.also. So now not only died but all these other people were killed. See the snowball effect to some of you know firsthand the pain of the snowball fight what you do you zap that snowball of the brightest light you can find and it will keep growing related rollover friend, the life of David's. There is never going to be the same it's never going to be the same really see from this point forward.

Davis can have struggle because God told him you want from this point forward, the swords never to depart from your with his kids and with rebellion with Absalom murder of another son with the rape of his daughter all this stuff. She gotten God forgives you a friend if you if you keep on the same track when he forgives you, doesn't always take all the consequences away.

Then Joe verse 18, seven told David all the things concerning the war in charge the messenger same when you have finished telling the matters of the war to the king what happens at the king's wrath arises and he says the wattage approach or near the city when you fall. Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall who struck Abimelech, the son of Jerry Buescher was not a woman who cast a piece of a millstone on them from the wall so that he died in the best then why did you go near the wall and then you shall say your serving Uriah the Hittite is dead also German chef is another name actually forgetting that obviously Joab is saying hey you know, tell him that what he wanted to get done was done. His interesting thing right was a Hittite.

In other words, he is a foreigner, but he become one of David's men was obviously converted.

If you will over to God over to Judaism at that time revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures.

Uriah means Yahweh is my light.

David hadn't killed David put out the and I know in this moment. There probably people I've never killed anybody, but somebody's life spiritually speaking people all over the place in this church here tonight think they need encouragement they need you to speak in Encouraging Word till late.

They need you to pray for them to encourage them.

At times you know as a pastor I need encouragement and yet all too often friends of encouraging one another. What would it which I blew each other's light we could do that can be like that white guy look like that. Why got act like that. Ask a question are you encouraging people and encouraging their light in the Lord perhaps is your flash been used to put some eyes light up. We should encourage one another.

I want to encourage me and I'm here to serve people.

The staff is here to serve people serve you. You got a whole crowd of people praying for you Sharon you all encouraging you in the Lord.

Team leaders encouraging you in the Lord when he think it does. That team leader when they hear people are slamming him gossiping about anything that goes to their heart that they set out so tender to serve other people's difficult verse 22. So the messenger went and came and told David all the joy but sent by the messenger said they would surely the men prevailed against us and came out to us in the field.

Then we drove them back as far as the entrance of the gate and the archer shot from the wall at your servants. Some of the king's servants are dead in your serving Uriah the Hittite is dead also becoming this term.

King servants it could be that this was like some of the best soldiers that were there. Verse 25 and David said to the messenger.

Thus you shall say to Joab do not let this thing displease you for the sword devours one as well as another strength in your attack against the city and overthrow it.

So encourage him such a cold answer and keep in my retirement David man after God's own heart to get so calloused. One step at a time, one step at a time.

Here's the thing about repentance and torment turn to the Lord. Some of you are already are. You realize you need to do this tonight.

Some of you even while I was saying that leaving your excuses why you are going to do that.

And one of the excuses was when you know what I do that I'm just not tonight, but appreciate the word and you know I'm one step closer to doing here's a problem (when this chapter deal with this God's got his hand extended out to and if you sit here tonight. Maybe you sit here tonight and you never asked Jesus to forgive yourself.

You never really given your life over to God. Maybe been in church, but you never actually see Jesus, forgive me my sins help me to serve you. Help me to become a disciple give me the power delivery you've never done that but your thinking in here tonight. Maybe next. Maybe casually needed to ask his forgiveness for something maybe no Lord but your your wandering or something going on and you're going well to do it tonight when one step closer friend, God has his hand extended towards you and if you don't take his hand and I know what you're not one step closer you're one step further away.

So much so that friend if you keep on. At one point you can hear this message or message like this, coming back to God are coming to the Lord, and you won't even feel a tug on your heart at all your heart will become like stone.

So here's a message like this and not responding. Doesn't make you one step closer and makes it one step further away we read the last two verses. When the verse 26 when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead. She mourned for her husband and when her morning was over, David sent brought her to his house and she became his wife and warmest son. But the thing that David and done this please the Lord. I'm not sure David thought that he had gotten away with it. Not sure to be honest I think he knew he had this interesting conversation I have with people sometimes only say can somebody be a Christian and drink some money be a Christian and an smoke pot can somebody be a Christian and shoot no kin can somebody be a Christian and an do this that the other and answer technically and theologically answered yes. But if you're asking that question you're running in the wrong direction to following Jesus isn't about what you can get away with this reality, you are not getting away with anything.

It's not how far can this liberty is how can I give my life to Lord, how can I make a bigger difference. How can I serve God and serve one another. Tell others about this chapter, I mean to some it is.

It's a warning to others. If you've already fallen.

You need understand that God can forgive you and I understand the Bible mentions adultery as a reason to get a divorce, but understand that's not God's perfect plan and I know a lot of marriages who have survived adultery and the reality is, this is amazing to stop and consider the grace of God there witnessing the next chapter because understand David and Bathsheba were the mother, followers, father of Solomon, who was in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

What grace and also understand when you go to those genealogies and you see that her name pops up hard for us to take much pride in the fact that the human race was involved in the birth of Jesus again. There's people who have done this need to ask God to forgive them.

There's people that are in other aspects of temptations and following the need to come to God we go ahead and deal with the there's a small segment of people that are sitting there going not struggling with any of this stuff. Please don't be so arrogant and proud because here's the thing. When we say that were not capable of this type of sin. Here's what were sent saying that we love God more than David wiser than Solomon and were stronger than sent because all three of those men felt the same way. And remember this my friend, Jesus said, if you so much as looked at someone with lust in your heart.

You've done it. So how many of us tonight can stand innocent before God. I don't think any of us can, but God in his grace, amazingly enough, still calls David a man after his own heart because I want people that are passionate towards me and for me.

And yesterday, the struggle sometimes or to fall but you have somebody that like then a Pharisee who acts like everything is okay again. Some of you can avoid a lot of trouble by getting off the spiritual sidelines because you're in a dangerous place friend you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now own Legion.

A short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him. Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now. Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry. Please forgive me of all those things.

Please give me the power to live for you. All of my days in Jesus name, amen it friend if you prayed that prayer according to the Bible you've been forgiven you've been born again. Jesus said he would not turn anybody away who comes to him and he came for those people who knew they needed forgiveness.

Those who were sick, not the righteous. So congratulations for you just made the greatest decision that you will ever make.
