You heard from God. Maybe personas author had been listening had been taken the time to sit and listen to Lord, the Lord will speak three ways that we can hear for more than one prayer time and devotion, prayer time and devotion number two Bible study number three Christian friends Christian friends welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today in the program. We have Neil one of these assisting pastors to help share with us great to be here with all of our listeners. As always love studying the Scriptures together, second Samuel's been awesome for us to be challenged and encouraged in today.

It's really talking about taking the time to listen to what the Lord would say to just sit before the Lord been hearing a lot of that lately right with things that are going on in the culture today.

We can sit and listen to the Lord and that's where peace comes from.

Sometimes we just can't lose track of time. That's great, Bob spend that amount, the Lord of our listeners are doing the same. But let's listen in as Pastor David talks about as he begins. Second Samuel chapter 7 the life of David and he really does have a passion for God, anything, they would make some pretty major mistakes, but he still have a heart towards God, and I think were everyone of us can relate to that because everyone of us has made a mistake.

Some of them really serious with some serious consequences. And yet God still desires a relationship with an amazing thing. I think a lot of times, especially speaking from experience, having been raised in the South, having been raised in churches. There's a legalism that I'm spending a lifetime unlearning legalism, meaning that God loves me when I'm doing everything right when I mess up God no longer loves.

One definition of legalism. Let's look at chapter 7 second Samuel verse one.in the past when the king was dwelling in his house in the Lord to give them rest from all his enemies all around but the king said to Nathan the prophet see now dwelling house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside Tinker. Now this is cool. Notice David sit around his house and what is David doing David thinking about God is thinking. If you will about the house of God. I notice it says given them rest from all his enemies all around. Was this a permanent rest, absolutely not.

David went through a season where somebody wasn't trying attacking family member wasn't rebelling or somebody wasn't you at the border, trying to come in please understand we were given a peace that passes all understanding. That doesn't mean that will not have battles as a matter fact and we will walk with the Lord for very long winter in a season where there's not battles you understand is just like like a few minutes here we before the next battle concert rather than just think lot should never be engaged in the battle think well, praise God for quiet time before the next battle starts.

I learned a trick.

I used to travel around for playing music and stuff because you don't get eight hours of sleep when you're out on the road whenever I lay down I would like nothing like 15 minutes rest this really cool and sometimes she might be waiting in, but sometimes you get 34 hour sometime laid out praise got eight hours because the expectation was I was 15 minutes of rest of your expectation as you got another battle a couple minutes you can be really grateful in a couple of days go by and there's not another battle but if you sit there, go.

I really don't think I should ever have another battle ever in my life that makes you makes you dead if you don't have it here not as interesting as believers in which we can act like there's two categories of Christians and followers of Jesus.

What are those who are struggling and the ones who were not struck then and there, too, Thereto, Christians too, followed there's those who are struggling and those who are alive in some way all of us are struggling with some what happens this week we can learn to where this Christian mass. There are things always okay I don't you know you could had a horrible day and yet there's not preteens and I'm not doing good you pray for me. There's an opportunity.

But what we usually do fine. Thank you. Yeah I have experimented with it. I got aware but I guess with some experiment you can sometimes how are you bad.

You said I was doing bad and they say great, glad to hear. Maybe tell me some so we get rest sometimes, but not a lot.

There's a lot of battles going on.

The Bible talks about as being soldiers called to be soldiers like the saying we haven't been called to a playground.

We been called to battleground and will have times of peace and will have times of verse three as in they consider the king go do all that is in your heart for the Lord is with you now, let's remember the.

The ark had been in the house of a minute that and David had brought it to Jerusalem, and now David's wonder what to do with the ark. He wants to put in a special place but incidentally you're taking notes and you won't sums supplemental reading Psalm 89 seems to parallel this chapter, so you may want read that at another time. So maintenance is in your heart go and do it verse of Alice's God will give you the desires of your heart. I've heard people say what that means is that whatever your little evil heart desires. Got a give-and-take and then there's a bunch of people you know the name and claimant blab and grab it and let you know that whole thing and and and I will make Cadillac and I know you know my face turns blue got Galligan coming but the verses are means as you walk with the Lord God certain desires in your heart really cool supernatural thing was reversed for what happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan saying go until my servant David thus says the Lord would you build a house for me to dwell and talk about some says like that the word of the Lord came to Nathan word of the Lord.

I've been in some churches and let me be clear, I believe God does speak through people. Okay, I believe he speaks through me, and in the whether you want to call it a gift of teaching or perhaps a gift of prophecy winning a prophecy is forth telling.

But according to the Bible prophecy is always, it is also speaking the people on behalf of God that prophecy. If you been and charismatic and hostile fellowships maybe are used to during the service. Somebody stands up as thus saith the Lord in the name say something to God is laid on her fellowships and then sometimes it was of God. Sometimes it was an only churches of the pastor never said anything about it either way may not hurt people's nevertheless at the Lord out of the and then the pastor gets up and evening say boy that was not from God. We don't have this happen a lot here and here simply because was a couple reasons for this is nowhere my nose would not plan on going this. This is hopefully semester. Some people now had a brother come the and he said what would happen if, in the middle of the teaching in the mill. The meeting somebody stood up and started given a word from God say well I think I would happen. What it did was somebody stood up and did something that is what it did.

What if somebody now this point I'm pretty sure he knows who somebody said this guy was making plans.

I said no, that wouldn't be the Lord, and I'll tell you why brother because if God has anointed and appointed me and empowered me to teach the word of God to the people and I'm up there teaching the word of God speaking to the people on behalf of the Lord for somebody to stand up and interrupt me is out of order and God is not and interrupt himself not maybe your church experience or whatever you saying that not were not what I can do it here. That being said do I believe in the gift of prophecy absolutely had people pray for me that it was like that.

I hardly knew they praying so is like man that's crazy that's God now is it always God. When that happens it's not. Regrettably, some people get the flash and what happens when we hear from God. We hear from the Lord what you think what was going to church go to some church and does not a lot and we can hear from God is that we got interaction with people in the New Testament you got to go to certain church a certain place for God to speak to when that's really close to Old Testament theology and where you know we all had to go to Jerusalem in order to worship God and make sacrifices is is that the way God still interacts with absolutely not.

You hear from God sent Dr. you hear from God Bible study hear from God certain pray sit and pray, that's when we talk to God should be when we listen as well. Maybe you think I had heard from God will have you given him a chance to talk during your prayer time when click when you use the phone when you call somebody G immediately as soon as a start ring and start you wait for them. Answer and you know that there listen then and then you start talking so maybe if you heard from God. Maybe someone is out there had been less had been taken the time to sit and listen to Lord Lord will speak. Here's three ways that we can hear from Lord number one prayer time and devotion, prayer time and devotion number two Bible studies often speaks to us about number three Christian friends Christian friends. Obviously God can use things outside here but this is just three things that the Lord has used a lot in my life and I think in light of other people. So I think we need to develop this prayer attitude of talking and listening now when I talk when I'm not about listening to God under I've never heard audible voice. I'm not saying God never does. I'm just saying.

I personally have never heard in all boys got you have that's interesting, but that still small voice, but I've heard a lot as I sat quiet before the Lord reminded of the Scripture reminded of a passage or the Lord just cannot clear thought emerges in my mind that is quiet times and I believe that is the Lord is lifeless.

Take the time to listen to what the Lord would say to you, take the time to listen to what the Lord would Sadie. Oftentimes you get so busy doing this doing that we don't take time to listen to God want them for spinning our wheels as we have asked got God you want me to do this God you want me to do that decision on this was sit and talk to Joe Gothard. Is this the two parents are my kid went off to college and what you know, when you're purchasing NRR can get in touch with never calls us. That's it going to call another parents is all I figure I would do it that I do so as well. I send them a letter about once a month but I say look, here's $20. You go spend it in any way you want to go blow it on a meal or whatever. Don't don't buy books or anything like that. Just go blow and send send money. My kids all the time but they they never ever Congress will write their property.

I when I send that letter, I don't put the $20 and they always goggled they were $20 and I get to talk to mother tongue illustrates a point. A lot of times when we need something never notice what happens your prayer life.

Now here's Pastor David as he continue showing verse by verse verse five go until my servant David thus says the Lord would you build a house for me to dwell in us have not dwelt in the house since the time that I brought the children of Israel from Egypt even to this day, but have moved around in the tent and in the tabernacle where have moved about with all the children of Israel have I spoken word anyone up from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel sent. Why have you not built me a house of cedar. Now therefore, thus shall you say to my servant David thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the sheepfold following the sheep to be ruler over my people over Israel. I want you know some who really put David to be the leader, the pastor to shepherd the king of Israel, God, not Saul, not saying but God, what's my point. God makes godly leaders God raises godly leaders in his time through his processes in his season, and part of being a godly leader is way on God raising you and what happens here. Sometimes it is people they want to jump bronze on the ladder and I don't really want to wait on the Lord, I want to immediately begin bleeding your teaching or doing something like that and that tells me some because even when you look at David with Saul. David was waiting so let's face it toward him all the hard-working David knew he was first became annoying as king but still he waited for one for an opportunity.

He had opportunities coupled with all okay. What was he waiting on God and wanting God to be the one that raised him up and sees God's as you know he was a shepherd when I chosen think this was the humble David and this is a sale. David what we will I think I think God in part shows David because he was a ship and would lead his people and the is and this begins a section of Scripture is called the Davidic covenant is very important chapter in the prophetic nature about the Davidic covenant of other covenants know it was a cover that this is the Davidic covenant that the covenant God makes with David verse and I've been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. This is interesting. Verse I got this. Remember, God is speaking to Nathan to tell this to David why is God speaking directly to David because this is what God does sometimes God sometimes will speak to somebody else to speak to last night and be careful.

This will obviously can be abused and in people get power trip out by with God sometimes does that still use the money to speak to us and that's what made you a great name, like the name of the great men who earlier. Do you realize this is quite a verse because at this time. David had a reputation and name among other kingdoms on this are the thing this person. Many people are familiar with King David not not just Christians and not just Jewish running all over the world. You can mention King David. Most people know what you're talking about.

How is that not that I'm going to be great name got it. David got a great name is interesting if you here's a good liberal theologians and whatnot they say will wait. We don't think David ever existed. They just made up stories and put them in the bottles. It was interesting because like six months after this theory started going around the body of Christ. They found this big stone in Israel that talked about King David and how he won these many battles and stuff and I thought first and moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more, nor shall the sons of wickedness suppress them anymore. As previously some list some of these promises are conditional.

God gave the land. Israel and that was unconditional him given the land as was unconditional. That promise is still in place today. Their enjoyment of the land was conditional upon there being so.

The reason that later on with the Assyrians and with the Babylonians and in later life of the Romans. The reason they didn't enjoy the land.

The reason they work in that land timeliness because of disobedience to God's grace God's mercy now has restored Israel back to the lands let's understand that as we go through some books when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers. I will set up your seat after you will come from your body and I will establish his kingdom. Verse 13 he shall build a house for my name and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever coupled really cool things in these verses. First thing is happening is, God is saying David, you're not going to be the one to build the house, his son Solomon will build that's interesting because we caught Solomon's temple, but anything about David drew up the plans. David collected the materials. David did most of the stuff and then Solomon just instituted the work that we call Solomon's Temple, but I think this is also speaking prophetically are in foretelling Jesus Christ the Jesus Christ will build the house in the name of God, and he will reign forever.

Jesus had a conversation with Peter Scott. Interesting. Some people confused in this conversation eases who Emma Peter. Peter says your Christ, your son, the living God says that that's awesome.

And upon this rock I will build my church was a timeout build a certain Peter now absolutely not, build his church on the truth that Jesus is the son of God is the Christ. We don't want to build a church in Peter we want to build a church on Jesus.

Here we have this prophetic nature of this foretelling of Jesus in this Davidic covenant. Now why wasn't David chosen to build the house will work told in. And, there's there's a parallel chapters in here with the Bible is specialty second Samuel first Chronicles 1st Chronicles 22 eight, but the word of the Lord came to me saying speaking to you have shed much blood and made great wars, you shall not build a house, running because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight there was a warrior because of that. Not that I don't want to build my house. I don't completely understand what agreements that appear an attempt to explain why that was God's decision. David and I got a bill my your man-of-war. Solomon was in the man-of-war and Solomon ended up got the sense things. Sometimes we understand that sometimes we don't. But if you only submit to God.

When you understand what he's doing. That's not really submission. That's just agreement see you never know. If you submit the somebody until you disagree with. Because if you submit to them. When you disagree with them. That is, submit, and so you really have to have a disagreement with somebody before you realize whether your and submission are not, and certainly sometimes gotta do something we don't understand it and night not agree with it and then we see it were really submitted to the Lord, telling verse 14. I will be his father and he shall be my son if he commits iniquity will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the blows of the sons of God chastens the ones he loves, talks about verse 15 but my mercy shall not apart from him as I took it from Saul my removed from before you. My mercy members. What is merciless at the start about mercy.

Mercy can be defined as not getting what you deserve. Mercy can be defined as not getting what you deserve. Never forget you teach my children. This is what mercy is what grace is grace is getting what you don't deserve mercy is not getting what you do this, how often do you need God's mercy all the time you realize the Bible tells us that his mercies are new every morning words. Every morning you wake up, got mercy, good don't it all over. Why doesn't he use yesterday's mercy because you are using all of yesterday's mercies. It is messed up as well. You messed up that way. God loves you, but there are numerous and his mercies never in your never going to stretch his mercy beyond his capabilities. We need to understand this concept of mercy is a lot in the New Testament run through some Scriptures Ephesians 2 forces this but God, who is in mercy. Get the picture in mercy was written to me means you got all your talk about money.

I mean, you know, rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us. Second Corinthians 4.

Once is it and so since God and his mercy he has given us this wonderful ministry would never give up.

That's a great verse unit that says that if you're serving the Lord, your servant Lord is God gave you in his mercy the opportunity to immerse to the minister, not because you get things but because of his mercy. James 213 for judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment doing it. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

But gnosis is your show mercy people in James 317 but the wisdom that is from above is first pure than peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. First Peter 13's is this all water to the Godfather Lord Jesus Christ. For it is by his boundless mercy that God has given us the privilege of being morning. How do you think you say through grace, mercy, nobody's ever come to God asking him to forgive them of their sins and and got a no go, who will wait to.

I can't forgive. You simply gone too far gone. This verse friend, you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now own Legion. A short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him. Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now. Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry.
