If you're not familiar with this book to be shocked at how many times David messes up the way they way we've already seen him make several mistakes and running after running outside the land of Israel not asking God if he should do that doesn't wait for him to get all this sorted out before he starts using he's using David in the midst of David having 71 and the amazing thing when God speaks about David.

What he says he's a man after my own heart. Welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today. David McGee begin sharing from second Samuel chapter 3 studio meal has some interesting insights. Now Bob, we have been hanging out here in the studio for a while and so I know this doesn't involve you, because it talks about imperfect Bob told me many times how perfect you are, but imperfect people like me God is using everywhere. Maybe our listeners are out there in their imperfect to guess what God wants to use you and Pastor David talk about that that.

Thank you. And now they choose first by first second Samuel chapter 3. Turn with me to second Samuel chapter 3 for those who have been with us set up the chapter what's going on. Also, just a refresher for us who have been here second Samuel is a continuation of first Samuel we believe the part of these books which were originally one book in the Hebrew Bible part of war written by Samuel and we believe second Samuel was written primarily by Nathan and Gad. Perhaps what were not positive and now were into the story of David first Samuel don't Samuel and then Saul and David comes on the scene in first Samuel and now David is, of main players you will central focus of the book and what's going on now is there's a Civil War between David and the remaining son of Saul is what's going on and and there's contentious listeners battles and there's fighting in their Civil War in the nation of Israel people getting hurt. So that's kind of the set up chapter 3, verse one, second Samuel is now there was a long war between the house of Saul, the house of David, but David grew stronger and stronger in the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker. So when the civil house of David was winning. We talked about last week helped the men that were with David were very experienced in fighting and in battles where the people that were left remaining with Saul were those people who didn't engage in the last battle that's always been where he was killed and also three of his four sons verse two sons were born to David and have brought his firstborn was Amnon, and I am the judge or lightest his second Chilean by Abigail, the widow of Ney Ball. The Carmelite, the third Absalom, the Son of Man, the daughter of Tom my king of gesture before.

I do not judge the son of the fifth shut Messiah of the son of a tall in the 63 by David's wife Axel. Now these were born to David in heaven. Mrs. Ken interesting here we see that their six kids and there's six wives now and actually become McCall, there's David actually got seven wives, one of them is not with them right now but will see about her. This chapter and I want you to read this and think you know all K will be in the Bible is okay with polygamy or actually endorses the letter says it's okay anything just because somebody does something in the Bible doesn't mean the Bible is saying it's okay in this case right here. You can't look at this and go polygamy. It's a good thing thing now you got other people you got Judas betraying Jesus. That's not a good thing, something you want to imitate you got Peter denied Jesus. That's not something you want to imitate here. You've got David is marrying the seven different women and there was a Bakken in Deuteronomy 17 about verse 30 when I bring up verse 13, 14, you can look there is there's about eight, nine, 10 verses that deal with King's first one of the things that the king is not supposed to do is have a bunch of wine. Why would you not want a king to have a bunch of other than the obvious, why would you want the king not to have a bunch of wine because it McCain has a bunch of wife. Oh boy this is a potential minefield in your married and here you understand that it takes a an amount of energy and efforts to keep your spouse fulfilled and happy.

Okay. And God set it up that way but can you imagine trying to have the energy and the efforts of keep in seven wives happy. I mean it. Thing is, it's impossible.

There's just no way minimax in the children and it's just it's just a recipe for disaster. Here's an interesting thing David knows about Deuteronomy 70. He knows he should have this many wives he's done it anyway to see David has a lot of problems with his kids mean a lot of problems. I mean, I don't just mean a little bit of problem. I mean a whole lot of problems with the second thing people go well. I think David was a bad parent. I don't necessarily buy that as much is buying that he should have been married to seven.

Why no actually Mary.

More later on. I think that's the recipe for disaster because in a competition sets in, and all these things that then and and you know if you're familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures. Some of these things are already familiar and yet Absalom who will later cause a rebellion got Adonijah who, in the latter days of King David's reign. Each actually tries to take the throne of mean there's just a lot of stuff going on. We have Amnon's firstborn who rapes Taymor's half-sister and excellent kills Amnon takes them out for little bit better about your family right now. Like in months and my family is encouraged. There's a lot of bad stuff going on here and in the new look at the show you something else is, not hidden in the textbook is kind of interesting. And in verse three it says the second Chilean by Abigail, the widow of the ball. The Carmelite we remember.

Abigail was a very wise woman in. I believe she was probably the wife that God shows she was a wise woman shoe was very helpful to David ministered to aim Michelle.

I don't know ends up, be a thorn in his flesh Saul's daughter was continue the third Absalom Son of Man called the daughter of Tomei, king of gesture whose the king of gesture. Well, if you follow the thread of the text and first Samuel 27 verses eight and Susan and David and his men went up and rated the gusher rights the girls like malachite for those nations were the inhabitants of the land from a boat as you go to assure even as far as the land of Egypt. Whenever David attacked the land he left neither man or woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys and camels. The apparel and returning king nation. So David had killed the king of gusher and then he took his daughter to be is why in this is the woman that produced Absalom because they were a great deal of pain in his life with rebellion. I think it's kind of an interesting thing in here. I was thinking today about Tomei, the daughter and imagine having somebody come into your village. The place where you live kills your father killed your family kills your friends and in captures you to be is one massive question is, would there be negative feelings going on, perhaps in in that marriage. I think there's a lot of stuff going on and I think we Tomei more than David not being a good father. Tomei probably planted seeds of rebellion and Absalom started a young age. You know little ConMan's weird dad's not all he thinks he is stuff like some of us probably heard stuff like that for my brothers growing up about our father's and so I think this is a source of a lot of damage that comes in and here's the thing. This can be really convicting up to so you can start praying for missionaries or something or pretty little hurry through this David messes up then. I believe his wife leads Absalom in rebellion. I wonder what Absalom's mother thought if she was still alive and Absalom was killed and that rebellion should probably blame David but it was actually at fault in part, probably her what's my point. As families we need to be careful because mothers can breed rebellion in the children that they rebel against the fathers and the mothers are shocked that the children rebel also against them and they got only the Gazans gave your father and you displayed to your family to your children a rebellious nature against the government rebellious nature against your boss, rebellious nature against your pastor spiritual leaders. Don't be surprised when your children rise up and rebel and because Fran speaking role. Honestly, their following your lead you're leading them into rebellion and all they're doing is following so be careful. The careful what you say around your kids towards authority and feeling these things, everybody feels rebellion. That's part of the curse, but be very careful about speaking these things around your children, because they will follow you into rebellion. I think that's that's ends up what happens with this family and in the situation now you read this and you go David Manion messes the coursework we haven't even gotten to the whole Bathsheba thing which is obviously another error seriously earn David's judgment messes up any sense, but you look at this and you go.

I mean if we talk about legalism and grace last Sunday. If you look at this in a near legalist you will that's it.Davies nevertheless never going there really is David yet got Tuesday an incredible way seek religion would say David useless grace grace suggest David will be used greatly some amazing thing.

Click on submit and immediately hundreds of people begin praying for your lost love ones now here's Pastor David as he continues showing verse by verse you are watching your king do this thing do this very 61 and you are familiar with Deuteronomy 17 would you begin to protest go online. Maybe start a blog about how evil the king is, it's interesting in New Testament. Paul talks about submitting to authority about the time Paul was writing that Gina is the leader of the government that was over Israel at that time. Probably Nero there have been few men in the history of humanity that have been so twisted and perverted and and hurtful is near time pulses submit to the authorities.

Amazing thing to stop and consider we look at authorities in our lives and we say, well, okay, they can be in authority until I see a problem with and then I'm no longer going to follow their authority. Ladies, if you're married, how long did it take before you realize your husband is a sinner saved by grace.

Some of you probably realize that before you got married. Some of you couple days after you got married. Some of you may be a little bit longer but you can do you think that God is I okay obey her husband to find out is a sinner is what the Bible says that someone is well.

This was get a little person more personal application here. Do you listen to a Bible teacher to figure out he's a center at the moment you realize he's a sinner to go. I'm just nonetheless anything else. He said because I realize that he's actually center that needs the grace of God and if you do that you never really you want to wander from field to field you wander from church to church because you're looking for somebody who's perfect that person doesn't exist for think of it, if you were looking for the perfect husband that now must be on may tell your husband needs for my great great job is not the perfect may be a godly man but is not perfect and the reason I mention this is because give you another personal time and is a lot of times we looked and we say God will use those who are mostly perfect if you got problems. God can really use me I gotta get all my problems sorted out and when I get all my problems without then God can do something in my life. Fran Winnie have all your problems sorted out when you get to heaven. So when you get to heaven. I am in heaven now I'm ready to go to evangelize.

Yeah, you understand, you can't do that. There will be no need to evangelize in them is everybody's there will know Jesus. And a lot of times we think what I'm to get perfect before I start serving the Lord.

You never know. Serve the Lord, because you never will be perfect from. Here's a life lesson God uses imperfect people. God uses imperfect people. If you're not familiar with this book to be shot and how many times David messes up not just a little way in a big way.

We've already seen him make several mistakes and running after running outside the land of Israel not asking God to be should do that and the amazing thing is, God doesn't wait for him to get all this sorted out and work through all these things before he starts using he's using David even in the midst of David having 71. That's an amazing thing only stop and consider. So what we think when we look around. We see God using universal inclination is figure out what's wrong with was figure out what's wrong with you realize we do that as Christians, I say we will look at other people right this watch them see something that's messed and you know you don't have to watch long right that saying it was normal to get to know and then you see that they have some center. They have some problems. They have some issues in the amazing thing when God speaks about David. What he says does he say that David believes some kind of character he is so messed so he says that he says he's a man after my own heart to see the grace of that statement blows the smoke away from some of the legalism that we pick up along the way and see here's the thing.

Think about this when God looks at David does he see all that Gina had seven wines in the got more and then Bathsheba thing in my goodness. And then know this family such a mess is all elected, David know those things are forgiven and forgotten when he looked at David. He saw godly man he saw one of the greatest songwriters ever live.

He saw powerful anointed king that led Israel. So God looks at David forgets his mistakes and sees what's good about.

I want to be like God, I want to look at people and forget the mistakes and see what's good about. That's a real gift that is walking in the true nature of the Lord himself but it's difficult is I don't think any of us can go all you do that always. All always find the good in everybody that's a challenge that something that were supposed to be doing and when we do that we can live lives that are more godly. We can encourage people and their passion for Jesus, see what we think. When using David in heaven, will you be thinking we'd be there was David we know about Toshiba their body we read that story. That's what you're human nature to be inclined to do that Anglican manners David killed Goliath wrote some awesome song was King love God had a passion for God and Jesus in his interaction with the site is important when unknown taken sometime, but what about Jesus and the disciples Jesus pick these 12 guys then they know they know how Peter was get in the what Peter was going to the knee understand Peter was nine point yet he knew he know the Bible says he went up onto a hill to pray and when he came down he started choosing the 12, and for a long time I thought you he went up on the hill.

Pray to talk to God about who the 12 were going to be as I'm grown in the Lord. I think he knew the 12 B and he went up to the mounting plate.

These guys but somehow and Peter especially Jesus was able to look at him and see who it was good enough to be and not focus on his denials because all this is abstract biblical knowledge until we make a personal application that's way God sees you the stuff that you remember doing bad. He doesn't remember that because if you've come to him and ask him to forgive you of your sins. The blood of Jesus, the sacrifice of Christ on the cross as so covered all of that God no longer sees that when he looks at what an amazing thing, but he will remember the things you do for him. Awesome is this guy forget about the things you did wrong a minute, forgive your mistakes and will reward you for the things you did for me grace is awesome God is awesome. Verse six.

Now it was so while there was war between the house of Saul, the house of David that Abner was strengthening his whole on the house of Saul, that there was a military leader under Saul and he's the guy they kind of got this your bushes to step forward to be a king. A shipment shaft was the fourth son of Saul, he was a weak man. He was a weak leader saw him and invite him to that final battle in verse seven and Saul had a concubine whose name was Chris, the daughter of a so is Shiva should have said Abner why you gone in the my father's concubine. We need to understand how serious this is. Later on in second Samuel during the rebellion of Absalom fill interesting character, give him later but he gives Absalom some interesting counsel second Samuel chapter 1621 cases and the bill said Absalom go into your father's concubine is left to keep the house and all Israel will hear that you are reported by your father in the hands of all who are with you will be strong. I was the ultimate act of rebellion lay in with the king's concubines was like taking his crown and wearing it on your head. Concubines were part of the royal family. There was actually a ceremony where they were placed into the royal family again. Doesn't mean the Bible says it's a good thing and some using the same if that's what reporting the facts just for the royal family household. It was treason to label the Kings document and here we begin to see there's real intent in promoting should the chef to be king.

It wasn't out of loyalty to Saul and there was a power broker and he knew that if we move this week man into place that he felt like he would be able to control this and and suddenly the man gets a little bit of a spine in verse seven as is widely known in the my father's document now.

It's interesting because up until this point you can think what this noble God.

He's really want to continue the legacy of Saul loyalty to Saul in the sort of thing that's not it were Henry to see his true motives understand.

Take some time sometimes to see somebody's motive, see sometimes somebody can be doing the right thing for the wrong reason and it takes time.

See the motive for saying the right things for the wrong reason for saying something that sounds good but is really wrong. That's why I've always been very slow in putting people in positions of authority.

Mr. sometimes. I've looked at a man in thought and think as a good leader and many of these Capt. level or not I want to make him a leader nor do not just get a visual check. Okay long hallway time after time, God has been right in leading me to wait is use wisdom is not everybody and I don't mean to make you paranoid but not everybody that comes to you saying the right thing is really a godly person.

You have to use discernment as they can say what sounds like the right thing, but they're doing it for the wrong motives, so be careful and over time you can begin to trust people and over time I begin to trust men and there is an inherent in this church that I just I trust him with my life friend.

You know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now own Legion. A short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him. Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now.

Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry. Please forgive me of all those things. Please give me the power to live for you. All of my days in Jesus name, amen friend.
