You did not say it will convict the world of sin, because they are fornicating because they are stealing because they are murdering is not why he lays it out for us, he says, but of sin, because they don't believe in me. So the Holy Spirit is given to lead people to Christ to deal with their sinful nature and their original sin. State this is cross reference radio with our pastor and teacher.

Rick asked Rick is the pastor of Calvary Chapel Mechanicsville. Pastor Rick is currently teaching through the book of first John, please stay with us after today's message here. More information about cross reference radio, specifically how you can get a free copy of this teaching today.

Pastor Rick continues teaching through first John chapter 5 in his study called against corrupters Chuck Yeager, one of America's greatest pilots he's talking about when he was flying in World War II. All these fighter missions how they's he would make.

They would make no friends with each other. The other pilots because they would die would just be too painful.

So they didn't get close. They stay professional and that's about it and he says you can't let your emotions affect what you're doing whatsoever. Duty enters into the picture.

More than anything else. You know you have to do the job and you don't worry about the outcome. Okay so this is a principal of the most dramatic experience amongst humans which is war combat.

If this is a principal for victory which it is and he was a fighter race shutdown is ace and one that shot down five enemy planes in one day AP so intimidated one that it flew into another one took out two just like that up firing a shot gun right up on it as he understands this principle doesn't belong to him. It is a principal that is in creation. We are supposed to grant these kind of principles and apply them as Christians that's right that's in the Scripture, not in those words but the fact is part throughout the Job say he slays me trust him, though he slay this my duty. I will be at my post and we must not dismiss such gallant ambitions. Regardless of how far short, we may fall. Verse 16 he says if anyone sees his brother sending the sin which does not lead to death. He will ask and he will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. If anyone beginning of verse 16 sees his brother sending a sin which does not lead to death will say that three times at speed drive that point home is again is deal with these gnostics come along with all this junk about sin doesn't exist doesn't matter and stuff like that and just. It is the Holy Spirit really is just as esoteric experience is the sins committed by a believer. If you see a brother sending refers to general sin from which Christian should repent, we commit an act of sin is approved as a Christian we repent we hate that we've done that. What a hunch.

Sorry, I don't want to do that. Romans five but where sin abounded, grace did much more. That's what John saying here.

Galatians 61 brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass overtaken trying to get away your horsey running what the other guys horses faster and he's coming up on you need a lance pointed at your back and even overtake you, if a man is overtaken. Galatians 61 in any trespass, any trespass, the Christian finds himself. We doesn't belong you who are spiritual Paul says restore such a one in spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. What a profound speech for each and every Christian you want to be a part of the solution and restoring individually. It was okay. God's forgiven you miserable disgusting full pocket you been.

But to do that by your forgiven test of spirit, gentleness, brethren, if any man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tripped up, maybe not with the identical single one just as potent or worse where the moral doctrinal some kind of fall is envisioned here by John and he says you brothers in Christ have not stumbled, you help the one that has stumbled you pray for him. You know God's hearing your prayer. He continues to says in verse 16 he will ask and he will give him life of those who commit sin not leading to death will ask on behalf of the other will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. Your prayers will be effective, not the other person is struggling with the sin is done care if there will is I I'm I'm not going to fix this.

I don't care about it than these debts in the becomes apostate, backside upon apostate is impenitent. That's in your present will help but like I want to break this to prayers for the other believers. Restoration to help others overcome sin in their lives struggles in the flesh versus rejection of Christ as the sender that the rejection of Christ, not the son of the sin stumble.

You know I belied I cheated. I stole something, those can be forgiven and so he says there is sin leading to death that that sin if you finalize this life. That way you're done and that's we need open up a little bit. Some see this as a judgment on believers who are sending and they don't get it fixed and eventually God lets them dialects of fire and Ananias of those in Corinth who were not taking the communion tape table seriously and is a judgment fall on them for that. I don't agree with that position. I don't think that's right. I mean if that were the case we'd see a lot of Christians dropping dead so I am not again if you if you like that that that your thing. I'm not going to jam up jam my interpretation and understanding of this verse down your throat and lungs. You don't do it to me would be will get along well, but the practice of Gnosticism again is what he's dealing with and that is a sin unto death. They had left the church. Many of them, John Dell, they were one of us. They got out here with that, Joachim. I eventually God is not our stuff, and then again they were trying to influence believers in anybody else in his John is saying that sin leads to death is only one sin that leads to death, maternal death. He's been talking about eternal life in 513 and then again he goes on, we know that he hears us.

You know Roa rose arbor 414 we have this confidence is eternal life quality of eternity that is glorious versus eternal damnation, which is equality of continued existence without peace without joy. So he's dealing with eternal matters. And so when he says there is a sin leading to death. There's only one that leads to death, eternal death, and that is the rejection of the gospel that Christ's death is meaningless to me. Somebody else can still get to heaven around that when Jesus said if it is possible that this cup should pass. He was say there's another way of salvation. Let's go that route. There is no other way of salvation. Nevertheless, not my will but your will. That was a sermon to us. That's why those words are preserved. About the only reason why there. The big reason why it's not possible to get to the father. For this reason he can't. He came to be crucified for sinners. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Final rejection of Christ as a Savior is sins final deathblow, Matthew chapter 12 verse 32. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age of the age to come.

So if you not if you rejected Christ in this life you not forgiven. They just said that in this age of the women come and if you go to your grave that way selling allow you know you are a good person come in your done.

The severity of the gospel was when Christians died for there was any other way will who would go to the stake would be burned alive for Jesus Christ. If there was some other way, how is the spirit blasphemed. Listen to this is the words of Jesus concerning the Holy Spirit, whose work is to bring us to Christ and others only work, of course, John 16, eight and when he has come that is the Holy Spirit, he will convict the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment of sin because they do not believe in me you say the Holy Spirit is convicting select you guilty. You need to get Christ as is for unbelievers and some unbelievers say I do know I repented they become born-again and the others who don't blaspheme the Holy Spirit to get get beat up no one here. He did not say he will convict the world of sin, because they are fornicating because they are stealing because they are murdering asked him why he lays it out for us, he says, but of sin, because they don't believe in me. So the Holy Spirit is given to lead people to Christ to deal with their sinful nature and their original sinful state not subsequent sins. That's not that dealt with to what that's not what's going on here.

There is only one sin that can take you to hell in the final analysis, that is the sin of rejecting the witness of the Holy Spirit, the Christ is the son of God, who died for our sins.

The very thing the Gnostics were coming against.

That's what John is dealing with sin unto death, rejecting him as Messiah or Christ, son of God, no virgin birth nor morality is for his words weren't that importantly, these are things that ecumenical schism in the liberal liberal theologian is a euphemism for blasphemers.

Just, you know, we don't believe that God created Adam and Eve as the Bible so we believe man involved in any just they just mingle in the world with every scripture verse. They are not comfortable with were so mean anything of those canopy they pump the meaning out of the word for the Gnostics was so mystical that's how they hid but they couldn't present facts just smoke and mirrors.

So this type of sin cannot, and in forgiveness cannot end with eternal life in Christ because of flak flatly rejects his grace, his methods, his words as promises. The Gnosticism's spreading around town just was in every at every step harmful to anyone who was in Christ or who would want to come to Christ undermining the significance of what the apostles were preaching and who they were, Jesus sent these men.

They were handpicked. They live within 3 1/2 years and they were after living with Jesus all that time they were no longer ever impressed by an unbeliever ever again. They had seen the top of the best that could happen and you just couldn't wow them after that.

John's gospel chapter 3 verse 17 Jesus speaking for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. That's the mission God wanted to say things are looking to destroy.

They will be destroyed because of the rejection of that's not what he's after is a consequence he who believes in him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already because he is not believe in the name of the only begotten son of God. This is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil. There up to no good.

They're not in the Holy Spirit so and John.

The sin is a sin of its death all right yet we said we Christiansen. But we have an advocate with the father blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us if we confess our sins, but there's another sin that the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse and don't suppose one moment that person is going to be okay. That is the gospel their view of crisis. Gnostic heresy made it impossible on on their terms to have a relationship with Jesus and John is going out of. Again he's attacking them. He says I do not say that he should pray about that. So when he says there's a sin that leads to debits is Gnostic heresy. I'm not telling you, you got it will praying for those guys that Osaka shock treatment must slow down. John says to the church.

Feel free to move on your brothers, you got of work were two brothers in Christ's sake we supposed to pray for the loss yet we do. But however I like you will forever be Jehovah's Witness to walk through your neighborhood. As you know, things to do and I'll put it in this perspective, not as a commandment, but this is what John is encouraging the church. Luke chapter 9 whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them. Jesus that you know what disgrace runs out after a while it becomes counterproductive. They can always come back. The word is there, but until that time you got you just move on. They were not obligated to pray for those who were spreading lies about Christ and attacking people in the church. That's John's, relieving them of view them as giving themselves over to the powers of darkness and that there again is not a commandment to not pray for the unbelievers, but it is not an obligation when to pray according to this passage here to those who are actively full-blown turned over to Satan who heard the gospel and Gnostics entered it and rejected it. This is a deeply says the congregation is not responsible for this. At this point Paul did a similar thing justice just as powerful and all good.

I noted be Christians and rogue slaves under the consent of this Hymenaeus and Alexander whom I delivered to Satan, that they may not, that they may learn not to blaspheme. It turns them over to Satan fine. You want to go ahead and hurt the church you want to bring these heresies in let Satan have you pretty serious stuff comes a time, as I said when grace runs out Jesus Christ, standing before Herod Antipas said not a word to him because said Gerard I am the Christ, let me tell you, let me do a miracle to prove it to you. Let me oh please become a Christian just ignores him to death. Herod was want to kill John the Baptist. He had heard the message and listening to the message of God came to a point in Herod's life. We chose death of John, rather than the loss of pleasures and when he when Christ gets in front of them. He's ignore the only man in the Bible that we read of Jesus Christ ignoring so what does this do for us. It makes everything a lot more serious. Does it not, it takes away the silliness that might creep in. We just then I'll go along top throwing rose petals around and all I got the gospel to sobering moment.

Johnson's is a sin that leads to death. And it's not fixable on that state's ascender all the sins we deal with those this big audience know that I did not have to stay on at this time they had the gospel of John.

They didn't have second and third John and didn't have the book of Revelation. Yet those only three books of the Bible, still not yet produced at the time of this writing, verse 17, all unrighteousness is sin and there is sin not leading to death. So, yet he says he reminds them anything that God says is wrong is unrighteous and yet we do these things from time to time. Just then I can kill you now. And of course no endorsement other than if you're struggling with sin, you not being encouraged to keep going with it, but you are being assured that your salvation is not snatched from you I need to know that and I need to preach that if not for myself there others. Maybe you've not encountered someone who's given their life to Christ and then have second thoughts because they just can't get a victory over some persistent hounding sin in their life. Maybe it's alcohol. Maybe it's sucks another substance. Maybe it's just you know something else in the Lord comes along, says I love you. You know who I am and I know who you are and John makes that distinction very clear in verse 18 ice as we know that whoever is born of God is not sin, but he who has been born of God keeps himself and the wicked one does not touch him and see this is what makes letter so I why is it what John why can't you just not say it this way so you have to just use reason the scriptural reason which Jesus encourages us remember in all these Jesus against the sons of this world and they use their their brains. The writers that I did not do that not all righteous. Of course, but where he says we know that whoever's one of God is us in him is the sin of blaspheme was the Holy Spirit he just got through talking is already made it clear that there is sin in Christianity's of your brothers sending you prick. If he sends us in. That's the Greek pray for him and God will hear your prayer so he's not coming back and say okay nevermind that is dealing with what he just said about the sin that is not going to be pardoned. The rejection otherwise. He never wrote these words, first John chapter 1 verse seven the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Verse nine if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and continuously cleanse us from all unrighteousness that Greek word cleanses his in the continuous tense its recurrent grace.

If you send and you fell asleep before you repented you and you love the Lord use of your saved not get in touch base before you went home that's conditional salvation perfect sense. John 647. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me has everlasting life, most assuredly, I say to you, you want to walk that back from Christ.

But you died and you didn't repent before your dog is in all recurrent grace for you, but of his prizes disqualified from you.

You caught on a technicality, even though you know the Lord is in you submitted to that which her flesh got the upper hand. You should've died. That's not what the Bible teaches. I love when Jesus says most assuredly and is a blessing attached to an ILO nervous when he says most assuredly is talking about are the consequence.

So when John says we know that whoever is born of God does not say anything.

Whoever is born of God does not sin the sin of death, which is the rejection of God in Christ, he says, but he who has been born of God keeps himself. How do you do that by abiding with him when you get these answers faster there text to me from the Lord. What you say can do it. You compare Scripture with Scripture. It's in the Scripture without breaking its consistency in its true meaning. John 15 answers that if you abide in me and I and you know you got it as a way says he who has been born of God keeps himself helped by abiding in Christ. How do you do that by receiving him and not going anywhere else.

Therefore, because we keep ourselves in Christ, we resist the devil, that he would flee.

Now we go to the bottom and next partner, verse 18.

He says, and the wicked one does not touch him. See the wicked one is touching those gnostics that have died the death of death is the sin of death, rejection of God. Satan's got them and that's what he's saying if of the Christian Satan doesn't have you know tool of Satan can ever sever the bond between you and Christ is one of Paul's thought about Romans eight is talk all about who shall separate us from the love of God. So we come to this verse. Don't tell me what is going to be. That's exactly what it means no child of God can be seized or snatched by Satan Christians. True Christians cannot be demon possessed.

Greater is he who is in you than he was in the world and he was in the world of Satan the ruler of the prince of this age. He's been given a lot of authority and that's when Jesus said that in John 10 no one snatches you out of my hand and I'm not giving you first John chapter 4, you are of God, little children, and have overcome them because he who is in you is greater than he was in the world you have overcome your you belong to Christ. That doesn't mean Christians don't have hardship or weakness of struggle various degrees of mean you you can't compare the strength of Daniel was a man like Dimas.

Even though Dimas eventually departed from Paul.

I would like to err on the side of grace going to make a mistake given the choice, Satan Dimas, who headed towards Thessalonica headed toward one of the strongest churches in Pauline H was a solid church in Paul's day.
