We need to understand our mind what is our mind all about. What is the mindset and so if you have your Bibles turn to Philippians chapter 2 starting in verse five. Let's all stand as read God's word. Paul says let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, the more I study this. It's more of 1/3 person has to say where. Be open to the Holy Spirit's work, be submissive to the Holy Spirit's work in your life.

How do you have the mind of Christ when you know who you are and knowing who you are. You are still humble like Jesus Christ. You have power you have education. Your family is well known and yet you humble yourself like a bondservant verse eight and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to have a mind like Christ. What is the reward that Jesus received. But Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane and he came back and found his disciples sleeping. So some believers think there you have it you have in mind, or you can call it spirit and then you have a body or you can call it flesh goes along with this thinking is the belief that the mind, the spirit that's holy. The body and you live without it.

The body gets us into so much trouble. That's when you hear people say things like I really meant me to say that your people say that I really didn't mean to say is that a true statement as it falls, it is falls. What did Jesus say from the heart comes all the gunk something else.

People who believe this way.

They quote passages like Romans 718 where Paul says for our know that in me, that is, in my flesh. Nothing good dwells. So they said there you go, body, flesh, evil mind, spirit, now that's good but I believe there misunderstanding what Paul is really saying because when you talk about the flesh. She's not talking about skin and bones. He's talking about the whole being, because sometimes that word is used for a whole person requesting a few moments, that there is a distinction between the spirit and the flesh, the mind and the body, but if you believe that this is hideous and horrible and get you into trouble. But the mind, the spirit of the heart and sign it. That's the good stuff that is not biblical. That is not from the word of God. Now I told you the sometimes even lost people Christian non-Christians believe this, but what they do is they say something like yes there is a mind and yes there is a body. This distinction is there, but the mind really is the brain that's what they say the body is body but the mind is really not something immaterial just the brains and just neurons firing this way and that way so you are not anything more than just mass and what you think is mine and what you think it spirit and what you think is the heart is really your brain waves now how dangerous is that when you say there is no such thing as spirit who are you taken out of the equation. Who is the biggest and the greatest spirit Holy Spirit, God himself. This way of thinking by non-Christians negates God.

There is no God something else. It does is very dangerous, and it is a way of thinking where was growing inside a mother's womb is not a person because what you call it starts with an F just a fetus. Just a fetus, why because it it it's just brain is just neurons firing in this. The human being is just a Visio neurological being there's nothing special. So when you are aborting or getting rid of something is not really a person or at least that's what people believe, who are in this category.

See how dangerous it can be.

Then there are people, mostly Christians who believe that a human being is three parts, body, soul/1 spirit, body, soul and spirit. Three.

Body and soul and revise. Gotta spirit not that's a little different and maybe there are people here this morning who believe this way and I want to challenge you because I used to believe this way to but the more I study the word of God, the more I realize that's not really true, according to God's word and people cord verses like first Thessalonians 523 where Paul says now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So what they'll say is there you go. Three things spiritual body. Gotta be careful because what we found is the many times when Jewish people use these distinctions, spirit, soul and body. They were not telling us that a human being is made up of spirit, soul and body, what they're saying is all all of you.

Everything about you should be submitted to God. Paul is not saying at the point of me tell you what a human being is made of them to give you the ingredients of the human constitution spiritual body was simply saying all that you have served God submit to God. Some people use Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12 to support this view in Hebrews 412. The writer of Hebrews or Paul says for the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, so they say were there you go. There is a distinction between soul and spirit of the word of God goes and somehow cuts through and slices between those two folks.

The writer of Hebrews or Paul was not trying to give us a distinction between soul and spirit what they were telling us is that the word of God is very penetrating it goes deep into the recesses of our hearts and exposes our sin and corrects our failures and weaknesses in misunderstanding. That's what the purpose was when people say this body, so spirit three things would you do with what Jesus said in Luke chapter 1027 he said you shall love the Lord your God with with what heart, soul, mind and strength. But he was not trying to distinguish between these categories in every human being so some people Christians and non-Christians believe in mind-body distinction where mind is good spirit is good body is horrible. The flesh is evil. And then there are people who believe that there is really not much difference is there is a mind is really the brains of the top of the brain and the rest of the body and that other people, mostly Christians who believe that a human being is three parts, body, soul, spirit, but I explained to you how that was not the intent of the person writing but then there are people non-Christians and Christians who claim that a human being is just one part. Christians believe that way and then non-Christians. Women, however, the non-Christians force they will say something like a human being would be held by the soul and spirit. There is no such thing.

There is no such thing.

So when a person dies your grandma passed away and and and get out the many funerals and people say I know one that went to see her again. What would an atheist say that there is nothing left. This is it. This is the only life you have all your grandma will live forever, but in your memories in your mind because once you die it's over because a person is just one nothing more for that's a very hopeless life if in this life we don't have the hope and hope is not hope it works out a whole by C. But there just sleep because you cannot distinguish you cannot separate the mind and the bodies of their not the norm but there but we can really see we can really wake him up. Rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord when I die in Christ. Yes, my body may be there at that very instant.

My spirit is in the presence of God so what is the mind when Paul says in Philippians 25 let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Paul is focusing on the body as a distinct part of us.

But then in first Quintus chapter 2 verse 11. What is Paul say for what man knows the things of a man except was the phrase the spirit of the man which is in him.

Now he is focusing on the mind. The mind first the body. The poor in the flesh. The mortal body.

Then he focuses on the spirit of the man.

What does that tell us that a human being. According to Paul the apostle was mind and body to distinct parts.

One immaterial and one material one that can be put in a lab, but the other one cannot be another verse and this time it is. Romans chapter 6 verse 17 Paul says but God, we thank the door you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart see he's using different words were talking about the same thing sometimes is the spirit. Sometimes it is the heart that he's talk about the same element over here sometimes it is body sometimes it is flesh, but he's keeping those two distinct there is a distinction for something Paul does.

But first he says my body, which means my mouth my eyes my ears my hands my feet every bit of me I have to offer up to God to listen to the second line verse two and do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind was at me. It means this when God wants me to submit myself. I have to submit both my mind and my body will be can see it. Both have to be submitted for something else. Paul sees the whole person in bondage to sin.

My mind has been corrupted by sin, but my body has also been corrupted and marred by sin.

How about the mind. Colossians 121 he says and you who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works get now he has reconciled my mind when we come into this world are mind has already been tampered and infected by sin. The mind has been corrupted by sin, but the body of course it has in two ways. Listen to what Paul says in Galatians 519 now the works of the flash or other works of the flesh there evident. You can see them. Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contention, jealousy, outburst of wrath I lost my temper thereby saw it turning red in the face and in discussing someone out well works of the flesh you have been tainted by sin in your body, your mind, of course, but also your body. There's another way the body has been corrupted by sin, sickness. We get sick cancer diseases accidentally. You just go down the list, the product of sin. Listen Romans 12 verse two. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. When I received Jesus Christ as my Savior. What is the Holy Spirit do.

He begins to renew my mind, he begins to transform our thinking the power, the power of sin over my tolerance over my mind is broken. I don't have to use pink negative parts I don't have to go back to past feelings of negativity that I don't have to live in bitterness. I don't have to live in lust and greed.

The power of sin has been broken up here. I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind, another reference second Corinthians 10 five it tells us casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every part into captivity to the obedience of Jesus Christ which means this because I have been redeemed.

Mind and body. I have to submit my mind to God as well. It's been saved but from here on.

I have to submit my part life to God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Jesus Christ witnessing the series.

What that means. How do you control your part life very important, but how about the body. Listen to what Paul says in first Corinthians 927 he says but I discipline my body and bring it into subjection to the body is not off the hook.

The mind has to be renewed by the body has to be discipline as well. When you throw yourself the pity party because of physical issues or because of mental issues or somebody else send out stimuli or stimulus in your life and and it is this whole thing starts and you begin to react and act against people dissuade. It is sin. You see how the mind and body.

Even though there distinct there connected so when Paul says here will done with this when he says let this mind be in you a better translation is intellectual self soft tank among you in second Quinton 71. Therefore, having these promises beloved that is cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit means I have to see God's forgiveness for this and this is bad habits in your life with his eating habits, laziness, whatever it is is beginning to affect this have to confess your sin and take action.
