Our he will will and will be the I'm glad that you're with us today and tell others about this program where they can hear these messages from God's word the same time each day we continue in our series from the Gospel of John today were in chapter 18 coming to the 28th verse we see Jesus before Pilate, our hearts are touch we see Jesus Christ, the only perfect man that ever lived being treated in such an inhumane way that we find hope and courage to know that this was in the design of God. Jesus was going to the cross to suffer save sinners from their sin. If the message is a blessing to you let us know about it right or set the Baptist Bible Auerbach 17 oh 37, Cincinnati, OH 45217 in the 18th chapter of the Gospel of John were looking at the last hours of Jesus life on this reading with verse 28 we concluded last time with Peter's denial when he denied the Lord the third time the cop crew and Peter was deeply convicted, then let pain Jesus from Caiaphas under the whole of judgment, and it was early and they themselves went not in the judgment hall, lest they should be to file but that they might eat the Passover pilot then went out unto them and said what accusation bring the against this man answered and said to him, if he were not a malefactor. We would not have delivered him under the Vincent pilot and then take the him and judge him according to your Jews therefore said to him, it is not lawful for us to put any man to death that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again and call Jesus and send him art thou, the King of the Jews, Jesus answered him say is that others think of myself or did others talent the of me.

Pilate answered, and I had to find own nation and chief priests have delivered the undelete, what hast thou done.

Jesus answered my kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, then with my servants fight that I should not be delivered to the Jews. But now is my kingdom from hints. Pilate therefore said to him art found a king then Jesus answered thou say that I am king. To this end was I born and for this cause came I into the world that I should bear witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth here is my voice Pilate saith unto him, what is truth and when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

Here we see Jesus before Pilate, the first thing that must be observed in this passage is the hot hypocrisy of men.

The Jews had sunk the rest of Jesus and feel that their long goal of getting rid of him was about to be accomplished. They bring them to Caiaphas, and unto the whole of judgment. It was early, which was totally out of the ordinary in itself, that no trial would be held in the early morning hours, but they are intent on bringing about the death of Jesus. They themselves did not go into the judgment hall and notice the reason given, lest they should be to file that they might eat the Passover. This is the Passover time. This was an important feast of the year. They wanted to be able to participate, but if they went into this judgment hall they would be defiled and they could not participate at one of the reasons the Jewish leaders wanted so much to get rid of Jesus. The reason they hated him so is because he had many times expose their hot hypocrisy. Look at an example of that in the book of Matthew chapter 23 reading of the 23rd verse woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, Jesus didn't mince any words he he was very straight to the point your hypocrites and here's why. 40 pay tithe of mint and anise government and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith. These ought ye to have done or not. Like leave the other undone. They were very careful in their time.

Meticulous getting down to tithing, even from the spices and cooking elements say they wanted to see to it that in the smallest detail.

They were meeting what they perceive to be the requirement Jesus said he blind guides, which strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and success. You make a good impression you try to display to others. Your zeal and your commitment that you are doing what is required. What is expected of you inside.

No changes occurred are full of extortion and excess.

Your full of sin and corruption on the inside, thou blind Pharisee clearings first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites for year like on the flight at separate which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous on demand, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. You can imagine where these leaders had obviously a very high opinion of themselves felt that they were on track serving God doing the right thing leaving the people Jesus had your immigrants you're making a profession you impress people, but inside you got a real problem. You're fearful of sin are full of corruption.

You're not honoring God although you go through all of these. Richard said follow the routines that you feel to be so important if you're missing the whole point you forgotten mercy and kindness and love graciousness in the 16th chapter, Jesus speaks again. Matthew chapter 15 verse 7E hypocrites wound.

It is a us prophesy of you say this people draw nigh unto me with their mouth and on earth me with their lips, but their heart is far from but in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of me. So Jesus is very explicit as it describes the condition of these religious leaders their self-righteous they are hypocritical to say the least. They say the right thing. They draw near to God with our mouth.

They say they're worshiping God there praising him there honoring him and honor him with her lips with a heart is far from her.

It's a real problem because Jesus had expose their hypocrisy. They despised nothing was going to satisfy them until they got rid of them completely. But we can see what Jesus had said being explicitly fulfilled in their conduct at this time. These are men who claim they love God.

There leading the people of God there guiding them and worship their instructing them. They have murder in their heart they want to kill God's son.

Whatever religion is. Many examples in the Old Testament God says that he hates religion. When that's all it is. If it's just a formality.

If it's just a vein show if it's just going through a routine God hates look at the book of Amos Amos chapter 5, verse 21. I hate. I despise your feast days and I didn't say you got a few discrepancies a few problems likely to straighten it out. He says I hate your feast days, you have the special day speak special observances. These feast days in which you supposedly are honoring God and God says I hate them. I will not smell in your solemn assembly though we offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings. I will not accept them neither. I regard the peace offerings of your fact-based, bring me the offerings go through all of these routines, but I will not accept the not pleasing in my site take thou away from me. The noise of my songs you can sing your song I don't listen. I don't want to hear.

I hate what you're doing. They were doing it in God's name to some degree they were doing it. According to the instructions been given, but the problem is on the inside. The heart wasn't right thing and really love God. They didn't really want to honor him.

They were consumed with their own self interest their own sins of malice and jealousy and hatred in all of the center to pick up on the inside, says I hate about what inconsistency is seen here in these religious leaders they would not enter the judgment hall. I think I think on the inside. I'm glad we arrested Jesus and Jesus is going in and is going to stand before the judge. But I can't go in. I want to be sure that I can observe the Passover that defiled me. I can't. I can't interact exactly what is indicated in this 28th verse of John 18 careful to avoid ritual defilement, but all the while seeking to murder the son of God, the true Passover lamb. We want to observe the Passover and yet the Passover lamb represented Jesus Christ's game John the Baptist saying the whole, the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world of the book of Hebrews says Jesus Christ is our Passover. He sacrificed to continue think the more despicable seen and you think of any higher degree of hypocrisy. We don't want to be defiled. We want to observe the feast of the Passover, but we want to kill God's who came in fulfillment of all of the prophecies about is indeed the Passover lamb now while we stand appalled at reading such an account was how could people be exact far off the track. How could they deceive themselves to such a degree that they would be claiming we love God we are serving God. We are leading God's people and have murder in the heart. But let's do some self examination. How often have you honored God with your lips, but denied by your actions you may have come to church and picked up the hymnbook and you saying enthusiastically the beautiful old hymns of the faith somebody led prayer you prayed from your own heart. Lord bless this service bless your people bless me that you went out the next week and there were things in your life which were blatant acts of disobedience things which were involved that you knew down deep was wrong places. You went things you read things you look words you spoke attitude you maintain less that dominated your mind what hypotheses is on nine to God with our lips while in reality our heart would be far from him. How often have you been in your position regarding some point the theology is a lie, real defender of the faith. I know what I believe about this.

I know what the Bible teaches, and I'm going to spend on this. No matter or some practice of the church. You say I'm I'm I'm going to stand for this to the Syrian I'm unemployed longer this practice. I think this is right.

This is the way it ought to be done and there is no other way. So while you're speaking in boldness and make the assumption I'm defender of the faith you held bitterness in your heart against those that may have disagreed with you, maybe even sowing seeds of discord, deciding because there are those that differ with you and you're confident that you're the standard you're always right, felt free to sow the seeds of discord that brought about disunity within the body receive vividly here the hot hypocrisy of man but we pray, Lord, search my heart probably make me to know what's within me and happen to see Mount hypocrisy can't assume that you never been hypocritical about anything got a clear siding yourself realize that it's an area that requires a spiritual struggle to be able to overcome by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. Secondly, as we look at this passage we see not only the hypocrisy of men, but we see the innocence of Jesus in verse 29 pilot then went out under them and said, what is the accusation against this man. What what what charger you're bringing him to me what what what is it he's done they answered and suddenly him if he were not a malefactor. We would not of the liberty mother. The very thing just accept the fact here if you want a bad person.

I did make a specific charge I didn't say this man had violated a particular law. This man therefore is justly condemned.

They already determined the killing verse 31 pilots and of them taking him and judge him according to go to law pilot you can tell is a bit irritated as a matter fact pilot does not like the Jews. He is the one appointed by the Roman government to be in charge of this territory and it already had several conflicts with them. At one point he brought some things into the city that they felt to be a violation of their conscience as far as what was appropriate to be in the city of Jerusalem and they protest and pilot said if you don't put the streets get out of here, but having put to death while they lay down the street and in such numbers. The pilot knew that if he started slaughtering everybody that was resisting him it was going to be a major major of people and he would probably be in trouble with the Emperor. He can see had to remove these insignias that were so offensive to the Jews.

I wasn't the only time he had several conflicts with the Jews. They didn't like pilot pilot didn't like them. So as I bring him Jesus can say that pilot somebody wants to appease the people he wants to settle this thing he don't want to have any trouble he done what the input could be disturbed within and she was on one previous occasion had to call his hand. He sees concerned about losing his job. In fact, the only reason he has this job is because he married the granddaughter of the Emperor and he has what is the most undesirable job than any in the kingdom would have the territory that any other would not want have been there responsibility pilot past so he knows that his position is not all executor you know you don't want any turmoil he got to understand that any conviction that he might have.

He just wants to work his way through this with little trouble as possible.

You judge him according to law, notice what the Jews said it is not lawful for us to put any man to death and want a fair trial. They've already made up their mind. We want one thing we want this man to die. We don't have the authority Roman government has that authority, ruling over the people at that time, but the Jews themselves did not have the right to make the decision that were going to put somebody to death. So, since we've already decided this man on a diet.

We want you to be the one to hear the case and to verse 32 says that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake concerning what death he should die if the Jews at putting the death they would've stone mother, that's what they were doing to Stephen in acts chapter 7. They keep stones upon them until he died. That would've been the method of them killing Jesus. But because Jesus had already determined that the method of his death was going to be by crucifixion.

He says that all of this is being done according to what was predetermined that it might be fulfilled. What Jesus had spoken concerning the death that he should die as we view this scene of Jesus before Pilate grievances to see how unfairly he was treated at the same time over Joyce to know that the will of the father was being accomplished come to die. He died with the tent deeming the people and hope that you will be back with us next time and until then. This is a Sarah Bradley Junior bidding goodbye and may God is a nice and in and in and in and in all
