When we spoke to our guests. The last time he was on the show Chris MacLean who is hosting the Mac attack on our Charlotte affiliate W and the 92.7 or AM 610, we spoke to him in July was right after the Panthers had treated for Baker Mayfield and Chris I'm sure you remember that you are giddy and that I'm not bringing this up to try to embarrass you or anything like that, only that I can imagine your emotions have changed a lot. So what is your reaction to what transpired over the last few months and now I see why am back on the job that you want to back it up with you to break up the old audio to be way can I tell you something. We didn't think about it we decided not to buy course. My has waned here and by the way, the player Baker Mayfield.

So what I thought was going to be a serious upgrade from Sam to Arnold is a huge reason why were here. I mean I think you can make a strong case for performance has been worse than Sam played last year, which is really saying something. You could probably argue it's been the worst quarterback play since Kam was healthy all the way back in the early part of 2018 so that that's a big part of it. There's no doubt about that but yeah I mean the weird thing is I guess the firing which was very popular here in Carolina because fans go back to last year and I honestly thought the end of last year I was with Bob, who probably should've been made by David Tepper wanted to stick it out. This is the first pirated coaching that goes. Amy probably want to see it through.

Given every chance he could but this season really feels like a carryover of last year and we did have enthusiasm as you point out I did when brought will broaden Baker the offense of line of thinking is improved. I think that was partly enthusiasm the coaching staff had changed some of those moves have worked out, then back into has really struggled as offense of coordinator here so that when Isaac worked out the way we hoped, but I feel like I feel you had to happen, it just felt like this was inevitable. So maybe do it now.

Don't play out the string and honestly format rule. Amanda begun working at $40 million in a way that is owed. But if you want to start looking for college jobs which as you know are already against him already opened up just get a head start on that didn't work with Matt will personnel the quarterback position has to be one of the first things we talk about amine and use data from the outside. Amy, I mean first Teddy Bridgewater brought in here and honestly. In hindsight they got rid of daddy so quickly. They actually go to to coach Roland and David Tepper both took shots at him and press conferences. It was really weird way they treated them and they sent him back in. But, honestly, was the best one of the lot. Matt rule era, but since then they just you know they they swung the fences with Matthew Stafford and Shawn McVeigh and staffer get together the hot tub in Cabo and the rest is history. The great ramp you went by the wayside and then the they may be tried for the DeShawn Watson move and that didn't work out, and in the meantime, it's just been left below. Would you have been as excited if they had brought in droplet because apparently that was also in the works outside of the shoulder issue.

Yeah, I did get exhorts her to come through that pursuit often and they kind of pivoted Baker. I mean, obviously, after watching the two guys play on Sunday here in Charlotte. I would say I'd rather have Jimmy Jeter also was the money that you me she was old, you know, at that time was a factor they were able to cut a part of the Baker money down where they only had to pay about $5 million on this by going out to much basically like Baker's life right now, now you third-quarter PGY Jamie is a long way of saying the quarterback position has been the biggest problem in the medical error they haven't got it right and for people out there that are thinkable while you hold that against the coach I heard you talking about this earlier them away in here to the station, like he was giving as weird as it sounds. Now I think about it. He was given coming straight from college.

Having only been an assistant for one year in the NFL. He was given $9 million a year.

Made to fit the highest paid coach in the NFL and given final personnel say so. He was a passenger. He was out there is Bill Parcells that he was shopping for his own groceries. I think that guilt yeah yeah well, as we pointed out it doesn't work with very many coaches. It's something that Bill Bella text done. But really, how many others have been successfully LP Carol has a lot of input.

He's earned that listener point out to me Sean Payton. He had a lot input New Orleans. But yeah, generally, especially when you're talking about coaches who lack experience it a fine line to walk in after hours here on CBS sports radio Chris MacLean with us from our Charlotte affiliate in the wake of Matt rules firing what you think about the firesale concept could be taken aback by that, especially when you're talking about Kaiser Christian McCaffery yet another storyline we have to talk about tomorrow, for today talking about you which players are or generate the most calls. There was one from Jonathan Jones of CBS that that brought up calls are coming about McCaffery and Burns after Brewer had one from SI talking about Burns and BJ Moore Burns and BJ more to me young players at premium positions pass rusher in a wide receiver.

I want nothing to do with that quite honestly the position where it's hard to get premium talent and we actually do have premium sound there. McCaffery want as much as I love CMC McCaffery one is one that I would explore if the price is right because he has had this injury history. You know how to deal goes with running backs again that big second contract and they often will have injuries throughout the contract that that second contract he's dealt with those others also yield three more years is under contract 36 total million dollars. So McCaffery and I don't think it's a premium position.

I don't think honestly is good.

CMC is I don't think like how many have we lost family games, years in Rotary loss CMC on the roster. I generally running back in this day and age is one of those positions that necessarily is the most important, you win because of so that one.

I would look into. Honestly Robbie Anderson is another name out there that I think has been a disappointment since his first year here receiver and you only get you back that the field when the court I get to the ball.

That's also a direct correlation is very clear. This is very fair that's true we can throw at you still want that about Tom Brady. I don't mean to bring up here. I doubted all my labor don't go down the Ruby divorce court. Amy Giselle said you can't brought up ABOUT same time. Is there any money on the roster that you would say is off limits. Brian Burns definitely addresses in the league is no way I would do that one BJ Moore.

They gave him a new contract where Burns is on his first contracts delegate more new contract. I wouldn't do that. His lack of production this year is complete because what you just set can't catch a ball and sailing. You know, Poppy, why don't you you know what passes are going to bring to you when you're open.

That's what going on with BJ Moore. I would want to trade Jeremy channel defense. JC worn corner of defense Derek Brown.

I'm not really should to meet a young defense of court and have to amoral the ones that I would be protected. Still, I feel bad for actually feel bad for us that we are getting to the team's back around to taking over already at quarterback if they thought he was even remotely prepared. I was injured but man I mean the problem is Chris that they probably would've been able to see what he was capable of, and see how much they could teach him and train him this year, even if they didn't like him and I just let both Sam and Baker walk because they're in the final years of their deals and that way you could start fresh with Matt… And when that injury happened. We all got a fault man lost your for M and write it really does suck at it when you start thinking about what could be in her future. I don't want to act like I'm one of these crazies that looks at Mark draft early in the football are not dressed very early in the now one in the draft a lot of people in play will see Wednesday will and do an interim coach but like maybe this is supposed to be a great quarterback draft read according to the experts and if the Panthers are drafting really high. I mean, I'm sorry Matt corral but it's like how do you turn down the chance to get someone like you know I almost can't miss a franchise quarterback compared with the round guy that has a lot of ways to go. Okay, so then let's talk about the coaching position, not necessarily Chris but what what did the Panthers need what should they be looking for in a coach.

We got a lot of panther financier that would love to see David Throw a ton of money at our former archenemy Sean paid the problem with that is the same contract with his body that hires him as you know we could have to be compensated, take the saints in pornographic so in the St. I'm sure or don't want him going in the division there and asked for the sun and the moon. I would think I me at all offensive mind though like you will get a guy like Brian Dave. All of what he's doing. Like McDaniel before all quarterback injuries in Miami, you look for these young guys that are coordinators and are creative and young teenage especially if it's going to be Matt corral or a first-round quarterback if you want don't want to groom a young quarterback. I would love to have a schematic mind that can work with that quarterback from day one that's one of the things that I think you'll be ruler Amy is that they went shopping for quarterback leftovers, you know, instead of just drafting and grooming someone early, letting them grow with the regime's so Chris, this is this is something that's it's you think about and and it's hard to cut out like your brain around it because we have to see was available into that kind of thing. But if you're talking about a guy who has the technical side for quarterback specifically, anything don't draft accumulation say they don't are thinking the same cycle again, like who who else would they even think about in the league that they could get a great question and one I could depress me by start learn the I don't that's what I'm saying to me at the perfect time. Now do what you didn't do in the last regime and the role regime go out there and you see it Amy new coach comes in, usually drafting fairly high) is replacing a coach to lose them and they take that opportunity to draft the QB and the coach of the QB are titling together. That's what happened here with cam Newton Ron Rivera right in Iran's first draft.

You know the big number one overall, a sweet dog and they go out to get cam and Ronnie can grow together and it is by far the best years that we ever had here in Carolina. So to me it would be the perfect timing to do that. There's no doubt about just any Cooper rush might be available. Amy we have is that you cannot throw name out there. We haven't talked about work and I wonder if you got better as I have one more offer to make as a bronco season. I'm willing to pay you to take Russell Wilson during our last conversation I would've like a deal.

I'm not sure that the Sara Lee right now Unlimited is limited in Denver.

I don't want on their I feel your quarterback Peyton just so you don't think I'm laughing at you. I'm laughing so I don't cry because I feel your quarterback pain to get anything out of me segmenting along with throwing off all for today defense with Miller on Miller freaking amazing that's true I can follow Chris McLean on Twitter at Mac WF NZ that's our Charlotte affiliates and he's got a lot to do a lot to talk about top of the hour. Close the Mac attack. This is all in good fun. Chris you know that I would never want you to feel bad about it all joy here is the last time I was on I completely sounded ridiculous. Think my wife put you up girl like your man you could own up to the fact that he was wrong about that. I get a lot of experience. I have a lot of good stuff Chris, great to talk to you. Will talk again soon
