Hopefully the new podcast number with the placement pulled back the curtain on everything you all the world of sport interviewing influential just outspoken celebrity thought leaders across the political, financial and social spectrum.

You know me, I'll give you my unbiased opinion on the episode drops every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with Stephen Smith presentation located 13 NRC studio available on the Odyssey or whatever you listen to your pocket.

Whatever.

My guess is hosting a new podcast number with Stephen a Smith is a pull back the curtain on everything beyond the world of sport interviewing influential just outspoken celebrity thought leaders across the political, financial and social spectrum. You know me, I'll give you my unbiased opinion. The episode drops every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with Stephen Smith presentation located 13 NRC studio available on the Odyssey or whatever you listen to your pocket. We are pleased to welcome former Marlins president and longtime baseball analyst David Sam Sandy love to join us in the first hour of our show because he's an early riser so before we talk about anything to do with baseball. And even how's the weather where you are absolutely fine and I am not in Florida so I'm thankful I gotcha gotcha my thoughts are certainly with people in Florida. I'd like to think about the erstwhile everyone safety but then of course sport and point out the remember running the team in Florida and having the in your thoughts you think would just quickly about the impact of game of your community and of your fan though hurricanes are no fun.

I can tell you that yeah feels like pretty much anybody you ask, have I have either family or friends in Florida. That is, how it works out so watching it now is.

Ian is turn into a category for but I'm glad you're in a safe place. So David, let's talk about postseason picture as we know, we just have the one and at least division title. It still up for grabs, so mats and Braves.

What's your impression of that race and the Mets have led almost the entire season, but the Braves and caught them again.

So when expanded by upward vented yoga picture wired in our mind that there would be great. People would be more would be involved and the coolest rates we have now really is, but met the grade but there's not as much at stake get there you have it because the loser it was going to make the playoffs.

Now you have to find another way to engage the fan and talk about why important. So now what they're saying from a marketing standpoint in the loser at the chance to play the doctor earlier be really good if you win your division then you both get a buy and then you don't click the Dodgers until the championship series. There is a lot at stake. The grade you know there's a champion.

They were my three preseason pick to win the World Series. They've been playing from behind all season long there really good team. Though they've a much deeper line up in the match, but the Mets rotation is slightly better, so it's a pretty exciting race actually. Why did you take them preseason.

To repeat, that's pretty challenging because there hadn't been a repeat champion Yankees 9899 2000 and I thought that losing Freddie Freeman while it was going to hurt them. They were so deep. Of course I had no idea how good a writer would be.

And now he's out and hurt so you just never know. But it's about time for repeat and actually going to the playoffs right now. I'm still okay with the World Series there that could what changes in the postseason internally for whether the front office or whether it's the players. Oh I love that question, though the front office. What changes that you're hoping for things to happen in October that you can't predict that analytics cannot indicate and that is a myth, play by the other team that is a Seeing Eye ground ball somehow is not a double play but turns into throughout RBI or an RBI with one out. Let's say you're hoping for a player you're not expecting to be a hero euro you know you every single one of those things that happen to actually win the ring to get to October good over hundred and 62 games to get through October. You need someone to step up.

Expect means and experience matters or counts or plays a role or are you not a believer in that I'm not a believer not as a matter fact there's a ring on my 2003 because we had a bunch of players who didn't even realize where they were one of the great expressions when we were in Yankee Stadium trying to win the World Series for game one the Yankees were playing video during our batting practice George Steinbrenner have been during RBP. I don't think I've told you that family. They were playing on the Jumbotron all video from all of the World Series.

They had one all of the memories and moments from Yankee stadium needs work.

Marlins were we were playing in front of 12 people all the time with no franchise history, and we spoke to the players about that because the music was with which haunting what they were doing during BP and our players like we don't even know any of Ariadne, though sometimes when you have no experience.

You just go ahead and play, and that's what happened. Note rate so I don't know that it matters, the Cleveland guardians.

For instance, the younger regime in major league baseball they got a veteran manager that when Terry Francona, who is been there done that.

What going into these playoffs and that approach were hey we we don't. We never been there. We got nothing to lose.

I'm so thankful you're talking about guarding no one talk about thinking that division was supposed to be a runaway by the Chicago White Sox that were the most disappointing team in baseball, I chose them as everybody else did. And, and I cannot let the anecdotal, there may be someone who makes predictions out there that guardians can win the division. But let's say 99.9% thought the White Sox would lay just been awful this year some interest in court, but the guardians have bad in the things we talk about in front offices that meet attributes where you got complementary where you have over performance in certain areas than what you expected in spring training and you have that feeling of almost destiny and that so again we felt about three in the guardians made.

But again, they mean a lot to happen for that that excitement to translate ring but they got have a chance. That's pretty cool. David Sampson's a long time Marlins president now is CBSSports HQ. I would love to have them here course. He's got the podcast to which she gets very saucy.

It's called nothing personal. When David sickens and when you think about the American lady that will shift, but do you believe that it's the Yankees or the Astros are more dangerous or better yet Road have a better lineup than the lineup yesterday have a better starting location of the Yankee starting rotation. I could easily argue yes you have a better bullpen than the Yankees go cancel not sure where Yankees would have an advantage in it. Against the Astros and that has both improved over the course of the season but also as you just analyze and look at games. I think it could be very interesting. What happened to New York in part from the pressure we talk about the Cleveland guardians were probably played very free right now there's a lot of pressure on the at their reading every day about the fact that they have not one 2009.

This group together with Stanton and Judge have been together, not for a year or two years, but multiple years and they have not been able to perform well in the postseason for me to go into October with this most with the most pressure and that and not the best team in that combination normally doesn't lead to asking about Tweety, and I was trying to go back and find it but it was a long time ago in which you were looking down the road toward the end of the regular season and you actually setting in both the case of our pool walls as well as air and judge that you did not believe either one would get to the historic number that we know our pool halls has got the 700 home runs. I love your perspective on that in the way that he has a he's clobbered balls. This summer, and even into the fall but I don't know why, why did you think that Erin judge would not get to 61.

Because right now he still said no and 60 yeah so I'm probably to lose that one. So I did think about second-half predictions where I thought at the time the Yankees and Mets. I thought they both hold on all of the things I said going September may not turn out to be true. Other than the Yankees winning the division met may not survive and the break overtaken men and judge likely will get there. But what's happening right now in everyone's talking about all the walks. Last night he walked four times and Toronto fans were blowing, etc. but here's the fact when you play the Yankees you meet pregame with your manager and with your team and you say I don't care what happens. But Erin judge will not be so.

Erin judge judges like Barry Bonds with Barry Bonds was at the height now.

He's not like I Bonds in mid air judge to steroids way. Barry. But I'm talking about in the lineup right now. You identify one person will not let you and Erin judge of that person. Therefore he's not getting more than one pitch correct that it and if you don't hit that pitch. You're not going to hit a homerun the bigger party for me and me if we could talk about it.

Erin judge can win the Triple Crown yes and that way bigger than him.

It breaking Roger marriages record Barry bonds whether you like them or not.

Or like it or not. He has a homerun record of 73 not you know I was standing at 59 2017 was exciting when the MVP, but there were certainly no five break no breaking Roger marriages record it cool but way way cooler in the Triple Crown and has been a true crown where Miguel Cabrera 10 years ago, so I don't think people giving Erin judge and love that which to me it is going to be remembered way more than him having the Yankee team record or the American league record.

Yet he may not be hitting home runs in the last week, but he still hitting. He still getting on base to be sure you been in baseball for a long time. What is 700 home runs mean to you.

It's incredible. I was talking to someone about it. Actually, Amy, for people should think about that for people of done it in the history of baseball in the hundred years and never to happen again. That is a club that is down, closed out, you can do all the math you want you can tell me about Mike Trout Erin judge judges never chancy world. Even Giancarlo Stan go young with one photo about Mike Trout naming anybody yet in Atlanta.

Go ahead, it's never going to happen again.

Whatever pools have done at the best right-handed hitter, not just for power but take a look at what he's done in his career both operatively and absently overflows is simply a superstar. He just stated in a way that people forgot about anything had recovery in the second half. That is inexplicable by anything other than the baseball God and your you're watching something that you'll never talk about to get on your show at so that's pretty cool.

I don't to my horn very often, but anybody listens to the show knows I was on this in March I said it was good to be the story of the summer in major league baseball and I'll be damned if he didn't turn me into a prophet with the second half that he's had it's it's phenomenal but one more question.

Just as were thinking about playoff. The Dodgers obviously the hundred six when they tied their franchise record but mail alive. They cannot seem to get that close to situations that I know Kaylee Janssens got a World Series ring but they moved on from him.

They got Craig Kimbrell demoted him to be there Achilles' heel now because by the here's another thing that happened gone to the regular your closer in your bowl. So tired. Remember what we talked about the beginning of the segment where every team wins the ring need someone to step up who you may not be expecting that is true, especially in the bullpen. So again it's 20 years ago, but I think back to not just our world.

For the Genki fans out there remember how many blown save save The Closer addressing the playoff. He was exhausted and we had two of them and a guy named Braden Looper in urbana so having closure by committee quote unquote every playoff team does closer by committee and the postseason US starter to end up in the bullpen look at what Apple does every year as they get deeper into the playoffs.

You save yourself, my God there pitching guy at the end throwing 9080 getting everyone out so that is not a big deal as people make it out be back at home giving up the Chapman want to close a role that Kimbrell is not pitching well that is not as big a deal and you would think.

I'm looking forward to those days was 17 pitching changes. Let's go. You can find David on twitter at David P. Sampson, SAM, SLO, and got nothing personal podcasting show which I'm telling you he's like a different guy. Not all buttoned up CBSSports HQ and of course longtime Marlins president.

We always appreciate the experience in the anecdote that will talk to you again in October.
