I thought about me alone or in a two beachcomber electrical binges. I me adeptly alone or you don't have this life and not double alone or that don't leave me. It's funny because when I was younger I used to be the person that brought all the groups together and I was a facilitator which incidentally is is why I'm not a great cohost is because I facilitate more than I share my own opinions and and what I'm to say but when I was younger I used to bring all the groups together so I could fit into any group and more for the group. Now I'm just a big old fat loner. It's funny how your life to not what I ever expected the radio show is pretty good gig if you can get after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio.

Thanks so much for hanging out were here on what is now Wednesday morning and just now hurricane Ian has been upgraded to a category four and so even as the eye approaches Tampa, Florida.

The whole panhandle of Florida pretty much is getting battered by rains were talking about the type of rain and the type of storm that could flood homes and businesses 2 feet of rain in some cases so that comes with devastating storm surge. I've heard 7 feet plus the winds that are already impacting Florida. There have been multiple hurricane. I'm sorry multiple tornadoes in this hurricane that I've touched down in parts of South Florida. Certainly, widespread power outages because the wind gust even now are up to 100 mph and so were thinking of you.

I know that I've reached out to family and friends with calls and texts. I've got people on the Gold Coast as I like everyone in the United States has people in Florida that's that's just a thing right. We all have people in Florida and so whether it's the Gold Coast or Central Florida. We were talking about major metro areas. Yes Tampa but also Orlando is directly in the path of the storm. Jacksonville is feeling it mean that the Florida Panhandle is relatively thin and so right now the rains are already impacting not just the central portion of the state. But on over to the Atlantic coast got friends who have family members who even evacuated their homes on the Atlantic coast. So there's so many people in the past. The store millions and millions and it's already left all kinds of devastating, with devastating effects and damages in its wake. So in Cuba. The entire power grid is out the entire power grid for the island of Cuba is out. I know these islands like Cuba and Puerto Rico and some of the others in the Caribbean don't have the same infrastructure.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that there are parts of the these countries that are Third World conditions, but they don't have the money they don't have the infrastructure and so the storms batter them in a different way but we've got warnings, and so I hope that you all are being smart and being safe and taking care of yourselves and your families. The people that depend upon you and and believing that to the rest of us are praying and thinking about you. I know I am so that's number one. That's priority number one on this Wednesday morning is is watching the forecast and the track of the storm and thinking about the people in Florida.

We do do sports here just because that's what we do but were obviously all people, not one track mind and so sports is a piece of that. But you never can catch me stick into sports or even talking or thinking about sports.

The majority of the time so is a lot a life it's going on outside of sports there are many events and some of them are sporting events at a been moved or have been canceled because of the storms that you have family plans of my own that a been postponed because the storm is eventually gonna head up the Atlantic coast. So again, thinking of you as hurricane Ian bears down on Florida and that will make its way up along the East Coast, and definitely worried about about the people in the path of the storm so please please please be careful be safe is after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio were live from the rocket mortgage Studios. Whether you're looking to purchase a new home or refinance yours.

Rocket mortgage can help you get there for home loan solutions that fit your life rocket can. Thank you for all your questions for ask Amy anything I do try to go back. Something is not until Wednesday afternoon because I'm I'm too tired to answer any more questions Wednesday morning when I get home. Plus I need a break from social media someone asked to me as producer Jade.

He fielded the question to me.

You know like what you do to unwind. Well doing social media in the mornings does not help me unwind so I tried, I generally do one tweet or retweet a pole or something like that. But I leave here after the show and I had home and I usually don't get deep in the social media again until after I wake up. So that's the first place. I start with work actually is email and social media when I get up in the afternoon so I will answer some of your questions.

Whether it's Twitter or Facebook. I try to go back and answered some of these questions quickly so you didn't hear your question. Make sure you check it in to see if there's an answer and then also we save some of these questions for later versions of ask Amy and I know now where we decided were to do kind of a football version of of ask Amy anything on video. I mean that I don't know if we can top the park on July 4. We haven't seen the park in the walk and talk. On July 4.

Will that is on our YouTube channel after hours with Amy Lawrence. Easy to find. That's pretty good. I don't know if we come up with another setting can be about a football field somewhere in the 50 yard line or something, but is a football field but we run 40s. We run 40s 40 to 40 I think still wouldn't take you 40 to run a 40 well me that she said under five seconds.

I think I could do.

Maybe 5.1 that's under 5J will have you ever tried one. I don't think I have actually done 100 yard dash is 50 yard dashes out of my life, but is never a speed guy though let you know I did run a little to track those long distance I could do that I was better. Always a jewel to burst.

Not on my damn funny. That's the opposite of me. I was always a sprinter.

In fact, it even as a a forward and one of the tallest players of my gospel team I in college I was the fastest going and lied and lied next to our point guard so she would be first, and I was like it but now the long distance runner and I'm not fast at all. So now I just keep chunking a distance just yeah but I don't not fast, but I did hide what I have marathons I thought it my goal.

That's good, that's actually good to be the goal in 2023 is another one where I can have my goal by doing the 10K.

I was really please. I hit my goals let's 20th and opposite just wait this way to get old and well you exercise though so I don't know come more quickly than you then out for you you what you say you get out there once in a while. Yes, it is once in a while you know I got out the right well so is a good time to turn over a new leaf. J didn't we do a video in which we talked about our goals were Geordie. Geordie is not one of my goals not set it up so that's true. In fact, I think we specifically mentioned that there would be no no talk of the gym or exercise is that we want to do less of that's true I did not pay less of that.

I just talk about it. You can't do less then what you do really what size do you do want my car it just so you know something, I'm incredulous. Sometimes he opens his mouth.

I can't believe he actually speaks these things. It's crazy to me. My stress level would be through the roof and I would weigh 400 pounds about did not exercise theirs and NJ just never exercises exercises literally walking to his car or playing catch with me once a week. That's pretty much it. That'll do it.

Any never gained a pound. I mean it's crazy. Although tapping on the inside with your cholesterol you not a spring chicken anymore not yet been older and older that you're deftly not under our zero CBS portray I'm just teasing producer J although there who recently was it said that there's some truth by average always bought Miller there is truth behind. I'm not your punching bag. Is that what you're telling me right in year 580 my gosh, I think you'll survive my internal organs the side of your cholesterol could be through the roof. You never know is I become in your your arteries to be completely hardened when you eat a vegetable yesterday covers one pepper over what was wasn't before that. I'm just vegetables and fruits are good for your sides, no not fruit snacks at 100% real fruit of social, it does not say that you're such a liar. It does not say that.

Oh my gosh okay I need to do something more productive with my time just talking to Jay about fruits and vegetables and his life habits is not productively trust me, I've tried for a year. What is that line from from Pirates of the Caribbean, but see there is no oh no cause is lost if there is one full willing to fight for it. That's it. J on the full was willing to fight for you being more healthy. You're not a lost cause. Because I refuse to give up the ridge. One of us is more stubborn. If you are coming from a good place so you not exercising is coming so you been on a diet. By the time you're 40.

Okay I'm saying in that little exercise and low veggies into your diet could be a good thing JJ refuses though.

That's the thing I as they say, a depressing conversation. So let's move on to something that's more uplifting. How about the St. Louis Cardinals taking another major step in this year of Albert and Wayne all anybody want to move the job over it. So all may have hit the wall.

Even the glove of the center fielder Bechtel, but it's a homerun. The centerfield is better run the Cardinals leave port on the swings line up facing the scores Carlson, Tom Yetman stopped in second is going after Milner's first one making it six Cardinals long will take off her second base really doesn't actually there's a comebacker Wellesley has stored first celebrate central vision title reading the Milwaukee Brewers tonight 6 to 2 in the NL Central as well is on mission.

Those winners number should you make all the money you might go to memoir his brothers were more suitors wanting to worsen.

Wanting to know my last mingle utilizes. It was all are so short.

What we go about it as we celebrate opening day is like. Our mission and our mission. You know, just well here we are.

You know well. We are pretty powerful. Make the case.

There believe in the Cardinals so they cling to the NL Central he will be playing in his 10th October and if you consider the number of years that he missed out when he was with the angel now, back to back seasons with the Dodgers on the Cardinals.

It's pretty sweet and really the postgame message from Ali Marmol. I heard it from guys like Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan are not. Oh actually is part of his division, a division winner for the first time ever is about doing this for Albert and for yachting doing this for Albert and for yachting for games back in the NL Central on the last day of July, 37, and 17.

Since then, and so this is a big deal. It's a team that is I meet Scott's stores and and guys at every position that can hurt you, and there also a likable team. It is an organization that churns out winners and that that builds teams that can compete and so II like it like that sentimental value. But I also like the way the Cardinals win no gold you know you want to division.

There's a lot of pressure. Adam Wainwright says we got this done because of yachting and Albert yachting and Albert magic.

I love that that we are little more from them coming up. But yes Cardinals clinch the NL Central with a pretty wild last two months.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees do not get the top seed in the American League that goes to the Houston Astros. They clinched it, but they now have the AL East that is their division and will hear from them. Aaron judged by the way, walked four times last night. He was over wind officially with boardwalks was on base percentage is skyrocketed. I did score 2 runs and he had this is interesting to buy at bats with full count all of his official at bats went to full count until you seeing a lot of pitches, but is also staying extremely patient and is not yet hit homerun number 61. Though the Yankees have clinched the AL East so the pictures coming together in postseason baseball where there were nearly they are to October and the month that is the mad dash to a World Series champion. Speaking of that, we got a tie with the current champions and the challenger in the NL East and will talk about that, all with David Samson, former Marlins president will join us next. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio you are listening to the after-hours podcast longer take off her second base so it doesn't actually there's a comebacker Wellesley has some title and I sent through the NL Central labor toward the first time over is well after hours with Lori Johnsbury on Cardinals radio and then John Sterling on Yankees radio recently, there's been a John's curling p.m. that in the Yankees broadcast booth and what is he gets so animated in his 80s, yet the man's phenomena after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Thanks much for hanging out with us. We are pleased to welcome former Marlins president and longtime baseball analyst David Samson and who love to join us in the first hour of our show because he's an early riser so before we talk about anything to do with baseball. And even how's the weather where you are. I find if I am not Florida, so I'm thankful I gotcha gotcha Mike, but certainly with people in Florida. I'd like to think about the erstwhile everyone safety but that of course sports standpoint but also remember running the team in Florida and having the in your thought you think, with Lee about the impact of game of your community and of your fan though hurricanes are no fun. I can tell you that yeah feels like pretty much anybody you ask, have either family or friends in Florida. That is, how it works out so watching it now is. Ian is turn into a category for but I'm glad you're in a safe place. So David, let's talk about postseason picture as we know, we just have the one NL East division title. It still up for grabs.

So Mets and Braves. What's your impression of that race and row the Mets have led almost the entire season, but the Braves and caught them again.

So when expanded playoffs were invented picture wired in our mind that there would be great.

People would be more would be involved and the coolest rates we have now. Really you met the grade but there's not as much at stake get there you have it because the loser it was going to make the playoffs. Now you have to find another way to engage the fan and talk about why so important. So now what their disdain for a marketing standpoint loser at the chance to play the doctor earlier be really good if you win your division then you both get a buy and then you don't click Dodgers until the championship. There is a lot at stake. The grade you know there champion they were my recent preseason pick to win the World Series. But they been playing from behind all season long there really good team. Though they've a much deeper line up in the back, but the Mets rotation is slightly better go to pretty exciting race actually.

Why did you take them preseason. To repeat, that's pretty challenging because there hadn't been a repeat champion Yankees 9899 2000 and I thought that losing Freddie Freeman while it was going to hurt them. They were so deep. Of course I had no idea how good writer would be. And now he's out and hurt so you just never know. But it's about time for repeat and actually going to the playoffs right now.

I'm still okay with the world. They're that good.

What changes in the postseason internally for whether it's a front office or whether it's the players. Oh I love that question, though the front office with changes that you're hoping for things to happen in October that you can't predict that analytics cannot indicate that you play by the other team that is a Seeing Eye ground ball somehow is not a double play but turns into throughout RBI or an RBI with one outlet say you're hoping for a player you're not expecting to be a hero euro you know you every single one of those things that happen to actually win the ring to get to October good over hundred 62 games to get through October. You need someone to step up didn't expect this means end experience matters or counts or plays a role or are you not a believer in that I'm not a believer, and that is matter fact there's a ring on my finger. 2003 because we had a bunch of players who didn't even realize where they were one of the great expressions when we were in Yankee Stadium trying to win the World Series for game one the Yankees were playing video during our batting practice George Steinbrenner have been during RBP. I don't think I've told you the family. They were playing on the Jumbotron all video from all of the World Series. They had one all of the memories and moment Yankee Stadium needs work.

Marlins were we were playing in front of 12 people all the time with no franchise history, and we spoke to the players about that because the music was with would want to eat what they were doing during BP and our players like we don't even know any of it carried me to go out sometimes when you have no experience. You just go ahead and play, and that's what happened.

Note rate so I don't know that it matters about the Cleveland guardians. For instance, the younger regime in major league baseball they got a veteran manager though and Terry Francona who is been there done that what what going into these playoffs. That approach were hey wheat we don't we never been there.

We got nothing to lose. I'm so thankful you're talking about regarding no one talk about getting it back division was to be a one away by the Chicago White Sox that were the most to the point you team in baseball, I chose them as everybody else did.

And, and I cannot do that, the anecdotal, there may be someone who makes predictions out there that the guardians can win the division. But let's say 99.9% thought the White Sox would and they've just been awful this year some interest in court. The guardians have that in the things we talked about in front office is that the meat attributes where you got complementary where you have over performance in certain areas than what you expected in spring training and you have that feeling of almost destiny and that's that weekend. We felt about three in the guardians made but again they made a lock to happen for that that excitement to translate ring but they do have a chance.

That's pretty cool. David Sampson's a long time Marlins president now is CBSSports HQ. I would love to have them here course. He's got the podcast to which she gets very saucy. It's called nothing personal.

When David sickens and when you think about the American lady that will shifts, but do you believe that if the Yankees or the Astros are more dangerous or better yet Road have a better lineup than the lineup yesterday have a better starting location of the starting rotation.

I could easily argue yes you have a better bullpen than the book.

I'm not sure where Yankees would have an advantage in it.

Against the Astros and that has both improved over the course of the season but also as you just analyze and look at games but think it could be very interesting. What happened to New York in import from the pressure we talk about the Cleveland guardians were probably played very free right now there's a lot of pressure on the at their reading every day fact that they have not one 2009. This group together with Stanton and Judge have been together, not for a year or two years, but multiple years and they have not been able to form well in the postseason for me to go into October with this most with the most pressure and.and not the best team in that combination normally doesn't lead to a ask you about Tweety, and I was trying to go back and find it but it what it was a long time ago in which you were looking down the road toward the end of the regular season and you actually setting in both the case of our pools as well as air and judge that you did not believe either one would get to the historic number that we know our pool holes has got the 700 home runs. I love your perspective on that in the way that he has a he's clobbered balls. This summer I even into the fall but I don't know why, why did you think that Erin Judge would not get to 61. Because right now he still said no and 60 yeah so I'm probably you lose that one. So I did think about second-half predictions where I thought at the time, Yankees and Mets. I thought they both hold on all of the things I said going September may not turn out to be true. Other than the Yankees quitting the division met may not survive. And the great Grover take a minute and judge likely will get there. But what's happening right now whenever what's talking about all the walks. Last night you walked four times and Toronto fans were blowing, etc. here's the fact when you play the Yankees you meet pregame with your manager and with your team and you say I don't care what happened but every judge will not be so. Erin Judge judges like Barry Bonds with Barry Bonds was at the height now. He's not like Barry bonds in the air judge done the right way. Barry. But I'm talking about in the lineup right now. You identify one person will not let you and Aaron judge of that person. Therefore he's not getting more than one pitch correct that it and if you don't hit that pitch. You're not going to hit a homerun the bigger party for me Amy if we could talk about it.

Aaron judge can win the Triple Crown yes and that way bigger than him.

It breaking Roger Barris's record. Barry bonds whether you like them or not.

Or like it or not.

He has a homerun record of 73 not you know Giancarlo Stanley at 59 2017 was exciting when the MVP, but there were certainly no five break no breaking Roger nurses record it cool but way way over in the Triple Crown and has been a trip where Miguel Cabrera and years ago, so I don't think people giving air judge in love with that which to me it is going to be. Remember, wait for then him having the Yankee team record or the American league. Yet he may not be hitting home runs in the last week, but he still hitting. He still getting on base to be sure you been in baseball for a long time. What to 700 home runs mean to you incredible.

I was talking to someone about it. Actually, Amy, for people should think about that for three of baseball in the hundred years and it never to happen again. That is a club that is locked down, closed out, you can do all the math you want. You could tell me about Mike Trout Aaron judge George is never chancy world. Even Giancarlo Stan go young with one photo about Mike Trout may meet anybody yet in Atlanta. Go ahead never going to happen again. Whatever pools have done at the best right-handed hitter, not just for power but take a look at what you submits career both operatively and late walls is simply a superstar stated in a way that people forgot about anything had three in the second half.

That is inexplicable by anything other than the baseball God and your you're watching something that you'll never talk about to get on your show ever so that's pretty cool. I don't to my horn very often, but anybody listens to the show knows I was on this in March I said it was going to be the story of the summer in major league baseball and I'll be damned if he didn't turn me into a prophet with the second half that he's had it's it's phenomenal but one more question. Just as were thinking about playoff.

The Dodgers obviously the hundred six ways.

They tied their franchise record but mail alive. They cannot seem to get that close a situation set.

I know Kaylee Janssens got a World Series ring but they moved on from him. They got Craig Kimbrell demoted him to be there Achilles' heel know because by the here's another thing that happened onto the regular your closer in your bulkhead so tired. Remember what we talked about the beginning of the segment where every team wins the ring need someone to step up who you may not be expecting that is true, especially in the bullpen. So again it's 20 years ago. But I ask you to think back to not just our world. The Yankee fans out there remember how many blown save save The Closer addressing the playoff. He was exhausted and we had to and a guy named Braden blueprint of B in a so having closure by committee quote unquote every playoff team does closer by committee and the postseason you have to start or end up in the bullpen look at what Apple does every year as they get deeper you save yourself like God. The guy at the end throwing 98 getting everyone out so that is not a big deal as people make it out be back at home, giving Dr. Chapman wants to close a role that Kimbrell is not pitching well that is not as big a deal and you would think. I'm looking forward to those days was 17 pitching changes. Let's go. You can find David on twitter at David P Sampson SAM S0 and he's got nothing personal podcasting show which I'm telling you he's like a different guy. Not all buttoned up CBSSports HQ and of course longtime Marlins president. We always appreciate the experience in the anecdote that will talk to you again. October David, thank you, always.

But you later such a liar after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBSSports radio you are listening to the after-hours podcast's's's without a little Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady from their two respective shows actually errands on the show but on to say that might well be his show after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBSSports radio.

The home show nearly done a mixed bag but we like it that way like a mixed bag. You may have heard the flap about Aaron Rogers watching the Jumbotron during the Packers Buccaneers game in Tampa last week and leave. He saw something on the Jumbotron. He then turned around and told his coaching staff he thought might give the Packers an advantage and so Maccabee asked him what did you exactly on the big screen. Well, I did see something on Jumbotron. I went down really saw or even wrote about what inconsequential, but I just thought I saw some Joe or not. I'm not sure what it enough to warrant diversion.

There was not a Microsoft surface. You know some of the related party was all about their archers stop.

I do love it when the stories take all life of their own.

In this case there was this idea that Rogers was watching the Jumbotron and saw formation or saw something that triggered a way to help the defense stop the two-point conversion member, the patriots scored a late touchdown. I need the two-point conversion to tie in what was an invisible second half of all. But as he says you still to go out and execute even the best laid plans of mice and men thoroughly work out on the field. That's interesting. A lot of people paying attention as many people as are paying well, I take that back. Not as many people as are paying attention to poor Tom Brady's love-life are having. Thanks. Oh my God it's not just for talent now you lazy about living where what I'm 45 I got a lot of bleak going on five years old man but everybody else is involved is believed to form so we stick to sports right here but we don't go too deep in people's personal life course. They're dating someone named blue or after hours of show.

We also have to make reference of it. Aaron Rogers got his protector back. His BFF David Bakhtiar. He was out there on the line with the Packers, which is really cool. Pop was never realized what it's like for those players that don't live or snap know whether you plan three steps, linebackers not your receivers, coming up next is like playing a series all plated problem with snap splits based on looking. So, really, really well. Hopefully this weakens series output line. Certainly the offense of line played extremely well last weekend.

David Bakhtiar being back is only a boost physically but also mentally and emotionally for the guys either going to get better. I think you're seeing the Packers are playing better week to week, though still not into it offense of rhythm that's been thinkable for 60 minutes but an old line is critical to that to be sure right now coming up this weekend.

It Packers and patriots Tom Brady Abby that was last week.

That's old news. I love your log now Bill Belichick and Aaron Rogers and the matching up to other grizzled veterans in the NFL. And of course they both gosh about one another so Rogers on the back Maccabee show talking about Belichick's allegedly religion is the game for a long long time makes incredibly new adjustments adjustments third quarter were just months whatever you know that the initial idea about what they want take away from her office to respect just a lot of respect for this expense as a coach and I love love what is accomplished in liberties about Larison's press conferences.

My favorite part of what Aaron said I think he's hilarious at his press conferences you want to know why because Aaron would love to be Bill Belichick what he just answered a question this past week with no just know I pursue the question.

I really do actually being generous, and probably a lot. He doesn't really appreciate the question, but of course Aaron five hilarious so it's a mutual admiration society bill balance check. What makes Aaron so good at what he does. More ability to really know where it all on. Situation management there letters in the more than we have always been a problem extremely well again: the he's my to see quarterback and he's playing extremely well. I'll let you know what he's playing extremely well after hours there on CBSSports radio one more just because he wanted his smile on your Wednesday morning Tom Brady on his own show. Let's go was talking about the pod we distill all the rage in the NFL and wonder if there's any implement for the dimples mark so that was pretty and I know part of being a part of the lore of the mill fumble. I was at that game. The best part about that was I didn't see it live really know what happened and I got back to my hotel that night and I stayed in New York that night. I was a Thursday night game and I got to see my son the next day was living in York at the time and is about 12 o'clock I got back to my hotel and I turn on one of the networks in a replay of the game and I saw the blood fumble in the first time I saw it I laughed out loud to myself in a room by myself or 20 seconds because I thought it was the funniest thing that ever sued my life in sports and the fact that our team was on the beneficiary of it and I was on the sideline still makes it one of the funniest things I remember in sports. I don't think yesterday top that. But it was pretty funny. Fantastic. But punter but fumble how many people this week in sports radio or sports TV that the conversation of which one is funnier or which one is more epic, or which one is more memorable crazy right and on that note, happy hump day to you again thinking of those of you in Florida who are now in the path of a category four hurricane tracking EN as well be doing a good portion of today was back with you tonight, so be smart and be safe is after hours on CBSSports radio
